Some of you might know that, when we first started researching RVs, we had our sights set on a Class A Diesel Pusher. Once we started looking at toy haulers, we realized that was a much better choice for us. But, we still have wondered what it’s like to drive and travel in one. In this video, we satisfied that curiosity!

When telling Phil how to turn in Phil and Stacy's video, your statement, "The whole truck is the front wheel of the vehicle" Is hands down the BEST statement ever on towing a 5th wheel. Great videos from both channels!

I had always had trailers and fifth wheels pulled by pick ups. I have now switched to a pusher class A. The ride is so much better and I call the windshield my IMAX going down the road.

The 2 rigs look like they were meant to be together! Beautiful! You probably looked like a traveling family.
We had considered a Class A but we also need to haul a motorcycle. We also want the space for fulltime RV'ing. Good to know you had the same concerns and decided on the 5th wheel. Thanks!

I went from a class A diesel to an Airstream trailer. I loved driving the class A, but the upkeep took the fun out of it. $500 oil changes, $275 air filter, tires are $3500 for a set. Too many systems, all needing service. It just was too big for me at this time in my life. Today the Airstream is perfect. If I won the lottery, I'd get another class A, but high end like a Bluebird or Eagle. (and let someone else maintain it.)

Appreciate the comparison, we have been debating between the Class A and 5th wheel. I think the pros and cons you highlighted are helpful to our decision. For us, so far, the Class A is the way to go.

I've had them both including tow behind, class a for me all the way. Getting ready to hit the road in April in a 35 foot class a. Hope to see you both on the road some day. You are all stand up folks.

  • @holmesfamily2058

We had a Class A for 14 years. Great for sandwich, while going down the road, and easy rest stop nap, and go. Also great to pull our 2 door Jeep Wrangler, and the Jeep was great for navigating around towns, and trails. But, the 5th Wheel, has so much more room, as the driving seat takes up 5 feet of living space.
In my opinion driving a HD pickup truck is so much easier, than driving a big Class A. Also easier to park the 5ther in smaller camping sites, than the Class A. You also have to take into consideration, the depreciation curve of a $250k Class A and what it takes to keep it maintained

I give you guys credit for hauling or driving those large rigs. I personally downsized because of the stress. We went from a total length of about 50ft (with truck) to a 27 foot class C. Feel so much more at ease when moving about.

As I said on Phil & Stacey’s channel, thank you so much for doing this! My wife and I are still in the research phase and while I love the “towing this beast” video, you made it look so easy because you have the experience. Seeing Phil drive it for the first time was incredibly valuable!
Thank you all for being willing to allow each other to drive your own homes around! That took some serious trust!
Also, you confirmed a lot of our reservations about the Class A when you talked about the way the rig rocked. As much as it may be possible to go into the back of a Class A while you’re moving, the reality is whether it is safe, and that’s not something I’m willing to risk.
Having “the Shark” (our bike) with us is a must, so we’re in the same place you guys are and this just reinforces it.
Ever thought about starting a 5th wheel driving school? 😂

I just moved up to a 42 foot fifth wheel from a 30 foot bumper pull. We went to Michigan to get it. Drove it 2500 miles in 3 and a half days. I cannot believe how well it tows compared to a travel trailer. I used to drive school bus also. I would take the fifth wheel any day. So much space. I would never look down on anyone for choosing different than me of course. But wow other than the higher revs with tow haul on can hardly tell it’s there.

You guys rocked it!!! We are still in a fifth wheel as well. I've owned both but as we age we wouldn't mind being in a Class A. I drove a 45' tour bus but don't want that much length due to some campsite restrictions. As a former trucker driver our 5ther is not hard for me. We did divorce the dolly as Phil would say. It was not an issue, but could be since we were 10' over length in Texas. (75' in all)
We love your channel and how down to earth y'all are. Continued prayers for Tara's health. Safe and happy travels.

This CG vet wanted to hear some deep water sailor stories. Great collaboration between the officer and the enlisted. I watched Phil and Stacy’s video yesterday. I got some real deciding to do. I retire from trucking in a few years and doing my research. Seeing how much the class A rocks back and forth has me wondering if a super C is a bit more stable. We’ll be pulling a small car and possibly a smaller motorcycle mounted on the back. If we went the 5th wheel route I would not want to have go to a dual wheel truck. Can you mount a 650-850cc bike on the back of non toy hauler?
I mentioned to Phil and Stacy that you nailed it on your instructions for turning and backing an articulated vehicle. Thanks for the collaboration. You guys rock! Safe travels.

This is from a family that's had both. As a guy it's always fun playing with trucks and driving a Class A is that little boy in all of us driving around that big truck. Being in back of a class a for your wife works at times but you can't sleep on the bed because the engine is right underneath you and if you try earplugs then you can't hear and in an emergency not good. And on the couch you roll off. That's why we have a 35ft 5th wheel when you full time you can't beat the room . And for you guys with the office and Lucille you made the right choice. Love your videos I have made reservations on your reviews and your travels. Hope to see you out on the road. Safe Traveling

We’re on our 3rd 5th wheel and had two bumper pulls. I’m 62 now and n decent shape. But when I can’t climb in and out of the bed of the truck we will probably get a class c. Our pension won’t cover a class a. Not a complaint, we are blessed. Great video. I like both channels.

One of my first jobs involved driving a class a pulling a 30 ft stacker trailer. I had driven a 20 ft class c with a 26 ft box trailer so it was bigger but not exponentially.
There were 2 of us and because we were driving someone else's coach we stayed out of the bedroom.
We changed drivers on the fly and always had snacks or meals or drinks at hand and a bathroom. And enough fuel to go 1800 miles nonstop.
If you want to cover ground especially with kids or others with small bladders go A or even C. You can pull a small truck with the bike in the bed.

We waited 10yrs to get and RV. Our original plan was to get a 5th wheel. But the cost of a truck to tow out weighed getting a 5th wheel. So we just bought a Class A and absolutely HATE it. Now its for sale. Wife gets monition sick and refuses to ride in it. Plus they are not safe to drive over 55mph. Good video showing the difference.

If you’re out exploring in an RV, and that’s what you’re gonna do for the remainder of your life, you have to ask yourself one question, what’s the hurry. Sounded like a lot of structural creaking and flexing which is par for the course with production coaches until you get into a prevost or a monocoque type frame. There is also something to be said for the utility of having the F-series as a separate mode of transportation.

We started looking at a 5th wheel, but much smaller than yours. As we had a current Chevy 1500 we stayed looking at the small ones we could tow. Ended up buying a small class A Entegra and tow a Mini cooper. All the points you brought up were very similar to the discussions we has, but we were on a smaller scale as we are not full time or close to it. Probably the biggest deciding factor for us was not wanting a 3500 truck to drive around in when you get to your destination. The mini is small, possibly a Jeep would have been a better choice, but we love Mini's, this is our 4th. Its a great comparison you guys did with Phil and Stacy. i love their channel too. Very well done.

My opinion is, the diesel pusher is better for getting where you are going. The 5th wheel is better once you get there!
We have a diesel pusher and pull a trailer when we take the motorcycles or golf cart. We are not full-timers. I started out shopping for a 5th wheel toy hauler because I already had my diesel dually. But fell in love with the ride and convinces of the diesel pusher class A. Seems like everything is a trade-off!

I've been watching your vids from the beginning and slowly catching up. Initially I was thinking a travel trailer with my 2020 RAM 1500 that I spec'd for towing. 3.92 rear end and tow package. While watching Hangingwiththehanks and your channel, I've realized that I should be looking at a 5th wheel/toy hauler. Recently I've started to think about a Class A. By the time I replace my truck and get the 5th wheel/toy hauler, I'd be in the price range of a Class A. Watching this video only makes my thought process a little simpler. Class A advantages: 1. The vehicle you tow can be a small efficient vehicle, a jeep or a even my Ram 1500. 2. The engine in the back works well for me. I'm already dealing with hearing issues. 3. The ability to just pullover and go to the bathroom, grab a drink, make food, or take a nap without getting out really suits me. There are some downsides, but at this point I believe I'm sold.

Great pair of videos. We have been towing pull behind RVs for over 30
years, the smallest was a 26', and the other (3) were 30'. We have used
several brands of hitches, and been using a Hensley Arrow to tow the
last 2 rigs. In 39k miles of towing we have experienced NO sway. As far
as we can tell, the Hensley makes a pull behind trailer tow much like a
5th wheel. We have to swing wide on corners, because the trailer cuts
inside the track of the tow vehicle. But we do not mind that one bit!

Newmar makes a front engine diesel Class A toyhauler, its the Canyon Star 3927. If you ever wanted to switch to a Class A, it would probably fit what you were asking for the best.

I'm excited to see you with Phil & Stacy! Hello to all of you! I've always thought both of you were Super C type Guys.
I'd love to watch full timers in Super Cs. I've watched Phil admire the Super Cs and I'm sure he dreams of a Super C.

This video was well done. Chad great job on driving that class A. I will go look and check out their channel. They have a dog too it looks cute like Daisy. It was cute I noticed that their rig was the same colors as you have for paint. I loved both of your rigs. Nice job on filming. Thank you Chad and Tara.

I would prefer the Fifth wheel because you can park it and just use truck lol but both are beautiful!

Super-C with stacker is awesome. Becomes the mothership and you can decide what to put in stacker: Moto’s, car, home office, gym, etc. The real truck chassis is the key so mechanicals can be sorted by most truck professionals. Plus the rated tow capacity is crazy high.

Your front wheels are behind you! That was the hardest part for me when learning to drive the firetrucks at the local VFD. Other than that, they're just big, heavy cars. 🤷‍♂️ lol

We had a class A and we loved it. But like you we wanted a toy hauler for being able take toys with us. We loved out f350 and then the f550 and now the F450 (2017). But the HDT is the way you guys need to go. A semi let's you sit up high and see over everything. Better brakes and you never worry about having enough torque. You also get to keep your toy hauler and have room for a smart car on the rear bed of the HDT!

I’m surprised my 21 year old Monaco dynasty does not creek and crunch like that. I did like a short drone shot down through the clouds.

Interesting..we just rented a 2018 Fleetwood Pace Arrow 33d over the holidays to see if it would be a good fit for the family. I was surprised how much it creaked going down the road. Really took the advantage away of the lower engine noise in my opinion. Does yours make any noises going down the road? Wondering if the better quality coaches do better in this regard.

I started out in a 36' Monaco pusher in 2010 and moved to a 5th wheel in 2013, and now our GD Solitude for 2020 and on. The pusher was nice for the long drives, loved that air ride! Yet for me it was another motor, brakes and expensive tires to maintain in addition to my truck. I agree 5th wheels have a LOT more living space compared to the class A. Just living space along for the same length is night and day different.
