    The churn dash…the first block I ever pieced. And it has a story. Signed up for a beginner quilt class at big box store. The first thing the instructor said was to be careful with the rotary cutter and examples of why. So we start cutting…the first thing I did slice a piece of my finger off. Just a little. The woman was beyond angry with me. I was like, “just give me a band aid and I’ll be fine.” Now you would think a place like that would have a first aid kit since they teach all kind of craft classes using sharp things and such. But, nooooooo. So someone had masking tape and I just taped myself up and got on with it. At the end I had a nice churn dash with just a little blood on it and an opinion that I would never go back there for a class. Went on to find a great little shop with a great instructor that taught me a lot. So, churn dashes always make me smile. Sorry for the whole book here.

      There is always a shop that ‘feels’ more comfortable than others like the one in your first experience! Glad you found a good one👏🏻.

    this is my favorite quilt to make. I made this back in 1970 with my mom. Back then there was no rotary cutter so everything was cut with scissors and the there was no pattern but to copy it on cardboard. I still have my quilt but mom gave up on hers so I finished it. I have nice memories of this quilt. Thanks again for your video. love you 😍

    I use The Shape Cut to cut up my fabric. Then I use Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. I put it on the seams of the square BEFORE it's cut up into fourths. It saves me a step.

    What’s with the cutting under the arm? Wouldn’t it be less awkward to position the fabric to the right to make the cut? Other than that distracting me, I enjoyed your video . Thanks!

    I don’t think I have ever seen you cut so awkwardly. I was afraid you were going to cut your arm. I have been watching the sew yeah tutorials for a year or more and have made the twisted ribbon and really enjoyed making it. Thank you for your ideas and tutorials, but review your cutting methods. After squaring up the edge, turn the fabric so you can make safe cuts. I made my first quilt in 1975.

    Hey from New Orleans
    How can I make this a 12” block? TIA

    • @SewYeah
      @SewYeah  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you want to make a 12" churn dash, from background fabric you’ll need 2 squares 5″ x 5″ and 4 rectangles 2 ½″ x 4 ½″. For the contrast fabric, starting with the center you’ll need a 4 ½″ x 4 ½″ square, and you’ll also 2 squares 5″ x 5″ and 4 rectangles 2 ½″ x 4 ½″.
