I own a year old rabbit and so far we have spent over the past 10 months 1,000$ and more. Please dont get a rabbit if you know you cant care for it. They need so much love and time. But in the end if you are able too have one as a free roam pet then they will truly save you and in return love you!❤
@@blankhole5145 same i have two rabbits and it is like at the highest price each month is like 20 bucks. we get them huge bags of hay that last about 4 or so months same with bedding and litter but their pebbles last longer at around 7 months as i only give them a quarter cup- from Lennon the bunny- .
I just left the vet with with a 1100 dollar bill after a emergency surgery that wasn't even needed and a spay. Good bye entire stimulus check. been giving a total of eight different medications twice a day as well as Force feeding her were on day 6 and she's finally seeming like she's feeling better and beginning to eat and use the bathroom more. 🙏❤️❤️
It makes me sad when pet stores tell people rabbits are low maintenance tbh. That's how a lot of rabbits in our local community have been dumped because of the misconception smh. Anyway to get to my point... ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT!
A lot of these costs could be decreased with some basic thrifty and frugal techniques. For example. I have 2 bunnies, we go through a 50 lb box of hay every 5 months or so as opposed to the 1 box a month for 3 bunnies she mentioned in this video. While I think this is a great channel and has some great information, I do think a lot of her cleaning techniques and the hay box she uses are pretty wasteful with hay. I've seen videos with her dumping out the bottom of a hay box because it is "old". While my bunnies always have hay available, I am careful not to waste much of it, and use small hay racks above the little box, so only a little bit gets pulled down and each hay rack is completely eaten and refilled daily, so the hay is always fresh. Also, the hay they do pull down into the litter box serves to 'soften" the hardness of the pine pellets, so no need for Carefresh on top of the pellets. As far as veggies go, where we live, Kroger almost always has salads and other greens on clearance (the yellow WOW stickers...when they are close to expiring) so I buy those and it saves a ton on veggies. They are totally fine...not spoiled....we eat them ourselves and give them to our bunnies without any issue. I just have to check ingredients carefully to make sure all ingredients are okay for rabbits to eat. While I agree that rabbits can be expensive (as pretty much all pets) there are definitely ways you can try to save money and cut down on costs without cutting down on care.
True but she is trying to explain to children/Young kids animals that they are expensive. Yeah there are ways to make it cheaper if you buy in bulk . She seems just to like clean a lot for her bunnys.
Also you can find hay for way cheaper than $1 per pound. I just bought a 50 pound bale of alfalfa/timothy for $16! It should last at least 2 months with my 2 buns. That's a huge savings already compared to the $80 small pet select wants or $50 for oxbow.
@Hannah Marcum funny there. I also used to want rabbits a lot and even though im not a rabbit owner, i researched a ton. In my family situation, i think my parents would agree more on rats than rabbits. Ive never had that idea and to be honest, thats pretty smart, so that would work great. I hope you get your rabbits in the future. As for me, my parents said theyll discuss the possibility of my rats after coronavirus.
+ 1 on this , rabbits can be very picky on hay and take a while and lot money find the best for them with less waste. When you have good Hay you wont have lot letovers. Bunnies always selecting the best grass leafs and leave the others over , this falls down. Some Rabbits , like mine love to eat in eye hight or from ground , to avoid getting spoiled to fast , i lay it on the little Ikea Bed , the sit here for hours munching , when its flat i mix it up wit a big Hand full and its gets 2nd chanche saves a lot hay . When they no longer have an intresst in it i thorow it in they litterbox.
I agree these buns are expensive and the spay here is over $375! Adoption helps predict the temperament of the rabbit too. Hailey you look beautiful today!
yeah the bunnies maybe expensive for adoption but rescues do neture/spayed and mircochip the bunnies before they get adopted and the cost of doing that is expensive to for each bunny.. but who cares about money if you can financilly manage than adopting a bunny is the best option out there
I have two rabbits for under a year and have spent over $3,000.00 just on their vaccines, spay/neuter, medicine and many medical visits. That doesn’t include the cost of the destruction they have caused in our home. But they’re worth it, because they are adorable!
I got my hay from a sort of farm/ranch store. One bale of alfalfa for my baby bun was $17. It lasted 6 months before she needed to switch to timothy and we only went through half of it! We left the rest outside for the wild bunnies which they loved.
I get horse stall pellets as a litter for around $6 for 40 lbs. Also try using bunny safe twine or string to tie the hay in a small bundle or disinfected pine cones as a couple diy toys. Certain cat or baby toys from the 99 cent store are great too. Cardboard isn't your only option for budget toys
And bunnies are addicting... I’m up to five rescues so far lol they have taken over my house and I couldn’t have ever loved anything any more than my babies. But yes... they are expensive and deserve tons of love and attention and FREE ROAM!
When we got our Bun, Oreo, I always planned that in a year or two I’d start convincing my parents to get another bun. Long story short, our local shelter has a bunny with a PERFECT personality and needs a lil boyfriend, but my parents still aren’t there yet!!!!!! I don’t know when I’ll get them there or how to, but these videos are comforting. UPDATE: She was adopted literally later that day by a wonderful guy named Mike and his bunny Revere. Now Winnie and Revere can live happily ever after, even if it wasn't with us.❤️
I was prepared for expenses when I got my rabbit but was blown away by vet costs for a sickly rabbit. Of course when I got him I didn’t know he had problems but he has costs a ton in vet bills. He’s completely worth it too, sweetest animal I’ve ever met and I wouldn’t change a thing ❤️
I have a 4yr old rabbit and your channel has helped me so much to take way more care of him and give him the best possible life and I’ve researched way more about rabbits so thank you ❤️
yeah, some people think you can just give a bun food and water and they will thrive, but they do need mental stimulation and fun too! luckily, there are lots of ways people can make bunnies lots of toys for free or very cheap!
"more than just the essential items" just think about that sentence. Essential items. What they NEED. They don't "need" more than essential items because essential items are literally their need. And mental stimulation is a NEED.
@@Lilee177 Yeah so I mean you can give them a few toys and a cage and that would be ok but if you added a digging box, a snug a bun and beds your rabbit will thrive!
@@violetwalter8115 It's not that some people don't "rEaLiSe" it, some people can't afford it! Thankfully I can, but some people can't! Also every bunny situation is different! Some rabbits are VERY PICKY! You seem to have a very biased opinion on rabbit care, which can come off as insensitive, so that's why the lovely miss Lilee here sounded harsh! Just be more considerate and careful with your words next time! That's my opinion and I respect your's!
Rabbit care is very expensive. Stuff like vet care and vaccinations. Where I live, I only need to get RHDV2 vaccines, which are $100 each, annually, for two bunnies. If you're living in Europe, there are more vaccinations and stuff. GI stasis is also a big thing, and I have spent $400 on an emergency vet visit to save her life (BUYER BEWARE: stay away from any Peter's product. The 'grass' is actually cornhusk, and the local vet with a phd said this caused the stasis)
@Fernanda Lopez good luck if you choose to get a bunny! just remember, anything with cornhusk/corn is REALLY bad. another tip is to learn how to cut their nails. I shyed away from it for years and couldve saved myself a lot of money. just buy clippers (rabbit-specific) and watch a couple of youtube tutorials to make sure you're doing it properly.
I have a rabbit and it isn't really that expensive. You can buy big bales of hay from local farmers for $10.. Or get grass that's been cut from your yard, make homemade toys, make pellets 15% of their diet and the rest veggies that they can eat and hay. bedding is pretty affordable too. Only $11 a bag. I line the litter box with old news paper that I get for free and put hay on one side and bedding on the other. My bunny loves it! I also found an XL dog cage for the bun for $30 on Craigslist. I let him out whenever I'm home, but he appreciates his spacious burrow 🥰. Save money for medical costs and things like that but it doesn't have to be that much money. He even has a little playhouse I made from a cardboard box. He plays in it all the time! There's ways to cut costs while giving your bunny the best life you can ❤️❤️🐇
Grass cut from your yard? Do you let them graze themselves or pull it yourself? As you know rabbits can't eat grass that's been cut with a lawnmower? & You shouldn't use newspaper in your litter tray as your rabbits will be eating hay off of this when it contains ink, which will run when it's wet?
Sasha Ayres I change the litter box every day. they don't even eat all the way to the bottom of it. I'm aware of the ink. It doesn't run at all. I don't feed my buns fresh cut grass, but as long as it doesn't have anything in it that is harmful to bunnies, then it is ok. Depending on the grass.
For me, I found that having insurance really helps. Maybe the coverage differs per state but I have nationwide and they covered all the costs related to GI stasis for my bunny. (I'm in WA - the plan has 100 deductible and 90% reimbursement)
It definitely differs per state, I tried to get it for my bunnies and guinea pigs and it was going to be $200/month which is definitely not worth it. I wish we could get better rates here!
This video-and your take on what people think about caring for a rabbit-are spot on! When I rescued JoJo, I had no idea what it took to care for a bunny. As for the cost, I have spent far more on her in our first year together than 3 years on my cats-and my cats want for nothing!
I completely agree!! Rabbits are NOT cheap animals and the decision to get one should not be taken lightly. Love the video, and you look beautiful today, Haley 💗😘
Rabbits do not need $1000 of toys and storage. And many of these things you can buy when you need them. You can get a flake of hay from your local feed store for a few dollars and that will last you months. Instead of buying the critical care stuff, just grind hay or pellets and mix with water. I’ve worked for multiple rescue organizations
I agree that bunnies are not "starter" pets, but I do believe they are good "mellow" pets because compared to other animals, they are more mellow than a dog per se. For anyone adopting a rabbit or thinking of it, I adopted my bun three weeks ago and it has cost me about 250 dollars to start off with, and I also didn't buy all my stuff, I already had some items I needed and got some from people around me, and my bun was already neutered.
sure a little more mellow, but as an owner of both a dog and a rabbit, i can confirm that the rabbit is as much if not more work than my dog. plus they’re a huge commitment lifespan wise, so i’d say they’re at the same level as dogs or cats. if you aren’t ready for a dog, don’t get a rabbit!
This is such an important video! Many people dont realize how much they can cost 😅 My rabbit has bad genetic dental issues, and just recently had a very eXpEnSiVe surgery ($800 oUcH)
I spend about 4-6k a year in vet bills due to dentals, emergency surgeries and emergency visits, and that is with 3 buns. Not only including hay, veggies, litter and toys. I know I am an outlier but I thought I would give that info.
I have a bunny too and I thought he had gi stasis but my vet told me to massage its belly until I get there I did that for like 40 minutes and he started pooping again 😂 saved me 500 dollars
YES PLEASE to the Emergency Care Info!!! Absolutely thankful and grateful for all the rabbit info you give on each video💖 Absolutely helped me with my two binky buns🐰🐰
Hello! Our family just bought our first bunny and we are totally in love. In my research I discovered your channel today and I have to say you are so adorable and fun to watch. Very informative and to the point which makes things clear and concise. So I wanted to say thank you for the great videos!
I love this(and the other video like this) so much!!! Before I got my rabbits I had soooo many questions money wise about how expensive I thought it would be. This is so helpful to new Bunny parents!!! This is one of my favorite videos that you’ve ever made!!!
This helped so much thank you for making this i am planing on getting two mini lops after quarantine finishes here in England and this was a lifesaver thx ❤️💜🐰🐇
Just 4 seconds in and I have to tell you that you look beautiful. Even without makeup you look stunning. That is natural beauty. Now I can unpause and continue watching. Lol
I have 15 rescue rabbits. 4 of them are fixed, because they're adults. 9 are babies born from a breeder I rescued, and one has a broken leg that I actually rescued today from a sucky human. I'm keeping four of the one's not fixed, and they'll be getting fixed when they're ready. It's about $60-$100 for a neuter here, and $100 for a spay. I'm very lucky to have it so cheap!! I also have a horse, so hay is easy 😂
I grow and pick my own veggies for my bunny, I would recommend this for summer as it is a lot mor cost effective and cheaper i would also recommend buying a live herb from the shop and grow it at home xxx
I buy a giant bag of rabbit food for just $15 for my two rabbits from tractor supply. We also get giant bags of bedding, but we want to switch to wood pellets for their litter boxes. The rabbits live in separate cages (they’re not spayed YET) and one of them (specifically my rabbit) lives in a small cage because I share a room with my sister, but she will be moving to a larger hutch cage (or a homemade one) once I move into my new room (getting a loft bed+rabbit cage underneath bed). Then she will also be able to free roam my room once she’s spayed, but still comes out of her cage and goes outside and everything.
Hi, Haley! Your videos are so helpful and insightful to new bunny owners like me. I was wondering if any of your bunnies ever had the snuffles and if so, if you can make a video on how to diagnose and treat it!
I’ve reserved a a pregnant rabbits baby I’ve already spent £200 and I’m still not any we’re near done yet also I just whant to say you looked amazing in this video
We had 7 rabbits. My father built outside a huge enclosure in the garden. Have built many toys for them. All cost around 300 euro. My dog now: round about 2.000 euro. My two cats: 800 euro. Well the bunnies are cheaper. :D
Everybody thinks bunnies are cheap and easy to look after. They are not! They need alot of care and love. And can cost a lot of money. If you don't have the time and money don't get bunnies. Also they aren't suitable for children. On the plus side, they are clean, funny and will make you laugh every day with their antics. House rabbits are great company 👍🐰🐇. Adopting bunnies is one of the best things I have ever done
I got all my toys for free as I was very lucky as my dad had some at his shop. I gave them a log of a tree and some grass and they love it and I also gave them the toys xx
Yeah the cost of buying a rabbit is a tiny investment compared to vet bills and also the food, specially the fresh veggies and greens, isn't as cheap like it is for a cat or a smal dog, also they are way more time consuming than cats. I have spent around 2000.- in the last three years since I got them, for vet bills like several GI-stasis, one had e-cuniculi, my female had to be spayed after I got her and one has a chronic respiratory disease... so you need to be aware of that. But I love my rabbits so much :)
It doesn't have to be this expensive. If you're willing to put a little time in learning what they need and being creative, many items can be foraged or planted in a garden space, even grown indoors on a windowsill or a simple hydroponic setup.
I like how she says they need to be in pairs that isn't true. They do better in pairs but they don't have to be together. I have one rabbit and he's fine.
I have two bunnies, Asher is my 6 week old, and Pepper is my 3 and 1/2 week old and theyre fed 100% alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets, and for "treat hay" i feed them timothy hay. i also feed them Kaytee brand Slims with carrot and one with alfalfa, and another treat is Sunseed salad, and sunseed snappers.
Yeah when I got her people told me she was a low maintenance animal... Well I've had her for a month and I've spent $300 on toys and bunny proofing. I still need to bunny proof a little more and get my bunny emergency kit together
I dont recommend tractor supply pelletized pine after I found out it causes cancer and also the saw dust isnt good for your rabbits to breathe in. My Vet recommend to me yesterday news and I do like it better and it works better it's about 20 bucks for 30 pounds but it works and it's not dusty. Love your channel btw😊
Chanel Garcia Yesterday’s News is outstanding for rabbits. I’ve used it, too. Where did you hear that Tractor Supply pellets cause cancer? Would like to read up on this. I hate their wood pellets because they are extremely dusty and FULL of sawdust. I complained multiple times to the store manager and corporate office when I first tried it, but NO ONE cared about the problem! I switched to the Yesterday’s News Original Unscented and we haven’t looked back. Great stuff.
my rabbit isn’t neutered yet. I wanted to do it when it was spring break (because rabbit neuters in my vet are available only on thursday and friday morning)and i had a job but then covid hit. I asked my vet how much it would cost and she said she would mail it and then a few days later, i got it and it’s $542. I have a spayed female but they’re not gonna get bonded until my male rabbit is neutered and recovered.
Since this list includes a few items that are not necessarily necessary I would like to suggest that bunny owners buy or build a composter. Bunnies produce a lot of waste that makes great compost (specially if you are going to try supplementing the veggies by growing your own). If a bunny owner does not plan ahead for the bunny waste it will add to a lot of bagged waste that will just fill up the garbage can and the land fills. And the upfront cost of a composter will offset a lot of future cost on potting mix and store bought veggies if you grow your own.
YES PLEASE to the Emergency Care Info!!! Absolutely thankful and grateful for all the rabbit info you give on each video💖 Absolutely helped me with my two binky buns🐰🐰 Also - I’m Interested in purchasing bunny toys from your website. Do you send items to Australia?
I adopted a baby bun for $150, included the cage and some food and water bottle. After that for my travel carrier and some more food for $90 After that just a checkup is $50-100 (first one for me was 51) So for the first week I have spent ~$300. And for spaying (my bun is a girl) the cost at my vet is $275
Great videoit really was pawtastic so glad yoh made this ive been thinking about getting a bunny andthis helped me a lot you are my idol so thank u love your hair
Ok. I raised rabbits for many years. Not just had 3 rabbits,. But a huge herd of 150 rabbits. Rabbits need Timothy hay, 16% protein pellets for a non lactating doe or a young one,. 18% for a lactating doe. A piece of applewood is good for them to crib on to keep their teeth aligned. Buck teeth due to inbreeding is a common problem. Rabbits absolutely need water fresh water daily. Crocks tend to freeze in water, hot water works with frozen water. Diarhhea is fairly common problem with rabbits . A medicine called dri tail works well, keep some on hand. Trim back toe nail s, fairly important, twice a year I would treat the water with an antibiotic powder. It was easier than a syringe. Did you ever belong to the ARBA? I was a long time member and registrar of pedigree rabbits.
Oh yes sore hocks were a big problem, if you raise on wire, keep a piece of wood in the cage for the rabbit to get off of the wires with. I had every problem you could think of, including stuck babies in x birth canal. Raised mainly pedigree rabbits. I find your video a bit too yuppy.
We took over the care of a rabbit when our neighbor lost her job and we can't wait until we find her a home because she is high maintenance and we don't care for her. She is a pain and three months are enough of cleaning up after it.
At 6 rabbits (I have 2 15lbs rabbits), we spend about 200$ a month (25lbs oxbow food, 1 bale of hay, 2 40lbs of litter pellet and approx 30$ veggies per week) for them and that depends on veggie prices with no rabbit being sick and no toys/hide ect. While my cat and my 2 chinchillas are barely 20$ a month. It's not a cheap animal to own by any mean. When we do go to the vet, it's rarely under 200$ the visit. Be ready if you consider having rabbits.
I want to add something which I just clarified with NationWide insurance - they do cover GI stasis as long as it’s not pre-existing. So if you have an older bunny and they have a history of this then they will not cover it. My bunny is six months old and he’s super healthy. I got insurance for him and they said they cover pretty much everything except grooming, pre-existing conditions, training, and transportation.
I just think this is something important for owners of younger bunnies to think of. If you have an older bunny, I desperately wish they covered those conditions. But for younger bunnies, please don’t be discouraged from getting insurance. It’s so important and will save you money
I went to Walmart when I got my rabbit and they had pellets (small world) and Kaytee forti diet Timothy hay (24 oz,48,oz and 96 oz,4.24,7.99,14.99) and I got a bag of small world pellets (25 pounds) for 9.99 because I was thinking that was a awesome deal that would last me a few months or even a year and a two 96 oz bags of Timothy hay and the strands were so small but it smelled very good it smelled like fresh chamomile,so I fed my rabbit 1/4 cup of pellets and 2 cups of veggies (romaine and spinach ),and I didn’t buy a rabbit cage or hay feeder so I brought the bag to my rabbit (I have two bunnies now ) and she smelled it and went running towards it right away so I gave her a handful and she finished a handful in a hour so I gave her nine more handfuls. So each day I would give her ten handfuls and by the end of the week she would finish a 96 ounce bag so every month I would get four bags (I had to get hay at Walmart because I’m a kid and my parents didn’t want to risk getting another pet by going to petsmart or petco).I don’t know why but even i wanted to try the hay cause it smells so good
Every Pet - if you truly take care of them (like you should do) - will be expensive. Toys, renewables,destruction,vet-costs,medication, transport-vehicles/boxes, food, furniture for Rabs (exsample: Digging-Box, cat-toilet) cleansing-material, and if you are obsessed -bunny proofed furniture. all in all it cost me more in a year then that what i spend on myself. But seeing my bunnys binking and flopping all the time, loving to learn tricks and grooming me after i pet them... ...it is so worth it! Give your pet the space and entertainment it needs, and you will be rewarded with a beautiful character of a pet-friend who will become family and cares for you.
Hi Hayley!! You probably won't see this, but can you make a video about transitioning rabbits from pellets to veggies? I don't know how to properly transition the bunny I am planning on getting, she has been fed on pellets for the full 4 years of her life and I'm not sure how or where to start. Thank you!!
You could foster a bunny because then it's all paid for by the centre. It saves them from being uthenized. Also we spent about £475-£500 when we first got our rabbit and that doesn't even cover the cost of the rabbit alone (£80)
My bunny is a year old and he has cost me over $5000 in vet costs, dental work, toys, food, cages, play yards, floor covering for his room, trips to a bunny vet (2 hours one way), medication, vegetables, etc. I will never advise anyone to get a bunny if they don’t have the money, the time, the dedication and a room (yes, a room! Not a cage!). Bunnies are delicate pets that require a lot of care, attention and training. You also must have access to specialized vet care!
If you mean bonding them, a bathtub with towels on the bottom. If you mean right after you bring them home, put them in their forever home with some hiding places
lazy homebody never put your rabbits in a bathtub! Why would you bond your rabbits in a bathtub? They need a large area with options to hide and escape to, a lot of different food and drinking stations and time
We have to pay, Neuter when he was a baby, £82 for vaccinations (per year) And lots and lots of veggies (£8 a week) for 1 bunnies and 3 guinea pigs, Lots of hay, Debunked items, Litter, Toys, And what's free, love ❤ Oh and I forgot, I am going to rescue an obese bunny with overgrown claws and sore hocks (not spayed) from my uneducated nanas back garden because she thinks it's alright to keep her in a wire bottomed cage. She is fed nothing but Carrot and Apple and I know she will die. She is so perfect and gorgeous I really dont think that she deserves what shes getting. It was either our house or the high kill shelter so I know that she needs to come to our house, get spayed and best of all, BECOME FRIENDS WITH MY LONELY BUNNY AT HOME!! Omg.... they could get married but just not have kids! (Because they will both be neutered)
Yes PLEASE do a rabbit emergency kit!!! Me and my sister are really considering getting two rabbits and we are doing a lot of research on them! So it would be nice to know what to have for a emergency kit! Thank you for this video!
Hay costs like $20 a month for ONE rabbit (assuming you get petstore hay). Veggies are another $40 a month for ONE RABBIT! Add another $10 a month if you give them 1/4 cup of pellets a day, $10 in litter (aspen) and around $20 for toys a month (one the cheap side) and you've got a good $100 a month FOR ONE RABBIT! Unfortunately my vet has suggested my rabbit take a break from looking for a bun to bond with. I took my rabbit to five different adoption events over the span of 3 months and ended up trying to attack the rabbits every single time. She's been deemed "aggressive" even though she's a sweetheart around cats and other humans
You can adopt rabbits for 8-10 dollars here :/ rabbits aren't though of very highly around here and it's rare to find someone that doesn't keep bunny's in pet store cages and hutches.
Since the beginning of 2020 I've spend more than 2000$ on vet bill because my bun got a leg amputated. It doesn't include all the money I spend to accessorize his space for his now special needs. So maybe 200$ more. Add food, hay, vegetables, pee pads and toys. There are so many misconceptions about rabbits, but yeah... they ain't cheap! 😅
Please reconsider and get another rabbit as soon as you are financially able to! If my English seems a bit off, because I’m not using appropriate words since my native language is German, I apologize in advance and hope you will understand me regardless Can my rabbit live alone? -Are you there for your rabbit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, until it dies? - Will you brush his ears and lick his eyes? - Are you bobbing around with him and exploring the surroundings? - Are you lying about seven hours a day with body contact together with your rabbit? - Can you speak the rabbit language and talk to your rabbit in everyday life? - Do you keep watch when your rabbit sleeps and knocks when a potential enemy approaches, so that your rabbit can really relax while sleeping because it knows you're watching? - ...etc ! If you can't answer these questions with yes, your rabbit needs another rabbit as a partner ! Think about ist: Even if you spend four hours a day working intensively with your rabbit, it's still 20 hours a day alone and lonely. That's 600 lonely hours a month and 57,600 in a whole rabbit's life. Also good care and a lot of enrichment can unfortunately not replace another rabbit. Therefore, get a second rabbit to give your rabbit a happy life. Fortunately, in Austria and Switzerland the keeping of rabbits is already banned, in Germany a new legal regulation is being sought. What scientific studies tell us about individual housing/keeping: Rabbits living alone move less than rabbits in the group. In addition, they eat out of boredom, so that obesity can occur more quickly. Extreme grating (and other behavioural abnormalities) was observed in the individual rabbits in one study, but was not found when observing pairs of rabbits. Despite various retreat possibilities, the rabbits preferred to lie down next to their partner. Are there incompatible rabbits? So my conclusion so far is: Every rabbit can find a partner! If you still think you have an incompatible rabbit with you, you can contact a breeder or an animal shelter to get help, they can provide you with many differently aged and mannered rabbits. Rabbit owners often break off the socialization prematurely because there are fights. Fighting and fur flight, however, is part of any combination, otherwise rabbits cannot clarify their ranking. Besides, not every rabbit gets along with everyone else. Sometimes you have to try two or three different rabbits. Most of the time, however, it works right off the bat. Other reasons for unsuccessful socialization may be wrong combinations or inappropriate husbandry/care/keeping or an inappropriate place for socialisation. In Germany keeping two rabbits is enforced by breeders, shelters and pet shops alike. Here is a quote, translated to English, by „Bundesverband praktizierender Tierärzte e.V“ which is a Federal Association of Practicing Veterinarians: Probably the most common problem in pet husbandry is monotony and associated boredom. Behavioural disorders are often the result. Rabbit-friendly husbandry should therefore - like any other animal husbandry - provide variety and environmental incentives. The contact to conspecifics is essential for the rabbit, which naturally lives in clans. The share of social behaviour in total behaviour amounts to up to 50% of total daily activity. For pet husbandry, two or more rabbits of the same age, which in the best case are used freshly weaned from the mother as a group, are ideal

@@arigatou312 I agree with all of the things you said but I want to add something to what you said bunnies are different and there are occasionally rabbits that can't live with another rabbit also rabbits can live nicely alone but unless they have been with a partner before
I did the same for 2 years before getting my bunny. I would also watch Stormy Rabbits and Victoria Raechelle's channel, and a couple other professional vet or rabbit rescue organization channels on TH-cam over that time. I also visited official websites like House Rabbit Society (rabbit.org) for information on caring for rabbits.
My two cost 2500-300 the first year. I live in California and one hay bale is 27 dollars and about 30 bc tax. A cheap price for adoption for one where I live is 100 dollars. My estimate is without the vet bills!

It really adds up when you have a bunny. My bunny just had G.I. stasis and the vet bill was almost 500 dollars!
Oh no how is he or she now. And how’d he or she get it if you don’t mind me asking
Mine had GI stasis as well but the bill was only like 340 :o
@Sunshine_ Gacha She is so much better now. I recognized it pretty early (thanks to Lennon the bunny😍) and they were able to treat her
@Rozlyn Freese For sure!
It makes me sad when pet stores tell people rabbits are low maintenance tbh. That's how a lot of rabbits in our local community have been dumped because of the misconception smh. Anyway to get to my point... ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT!
Amen!
I’m rescuing a bunny soon from a shelter and your channel has helped so much!!!
Make sure you do ALL of your research!!
Same
Hannah Forte I did! Used to have a bunny, but she got sick, :(
So I read "a bunny spoon" and thought you were getting a bunny named spoon 😅
E-Lilli It’s a hilariously amazing name though 😂
So detailed and seems pretty genuine. Great info
When does she not look pretty?!?
yeah the bunnies maybe expensive for adoption but rescues do neture/spayed and mircochip the bunnies before they get adopted and the cost of doing that is expensive to for each bunny.. but who cares about money if you can financilly manage than adopting a bunny is the best option out there
Well here in Phillipines,
It's 5,000 to 25,000 pesos to neuter or spay rabbits
Where did you buy it?

You can grow your own herbs too! Then dry them for treats 😁
Thanks girl 🌿😇👩🌾☯️🛒
Yess!!!
tried it........ i killed the plants the first week lol
Yes to an updated emergency kit please
I have a 4yr old rabbit and your channel has helped me so much to take way more care of him and give him the best possible life and I’ve researched way more about rabbits so thank you ❤️
I really dont think that people get that rabbits need more things than just essential items.
yes they do but ok.
yeah, some people think you can just give a bun food and water and they will thrive, but they do need mental stimulation and fun too! luckily, there are lots of ways people can make bunnies lots of toys for free or very cheap!
I just got a rabbit and I watch your videos all the time 😭❤️
appricated
Nothing to say really, just heard that leaving a comment helps out and wanted to support. Great content, keep it up!
I’m adopting two bunnies from a shelter and your channel has helped me a lot ☺️!!
Yesss You are so so helpful I’m getting my rabbit in 2 weeks and you really helped me along my journey . Thank you
This video-and your take on what people think about caring for a rabbit-are spot on!
Bunnies are so expensive, but worth every penny! 💴 💰 Love this video, and Haley, I am loving your hair in this video! 💕🐰
I fear that I will not be able to get all of these things for my rabbit but I also know I am giving him a better life than his last owners
Many people dont realize how much they can cost 😅
My rabbit has bad genetic dental issues, and just recently had a very eXpEnSiVe surgery ($800 oUcH)
How does she always look as flawless and beautiful in every video??!?
I know right
Very informative content. Albeit, a summary at the end would be nice. Just to see the total cost ranging from..to. Or at least in the description.
I spend about 4-6k a year in vet bills due to dentals, emergency surgeries and emergency visits, and that is with 3 buns. Not only including hay, veggies, litter and toys. I know I am an outlier but I thought I would give that info.
I am getting a rabbit in about 2 weeks . Your videos have helped me learn proper care.
This helps so much, I really want a bunny and this really help put the costs in perspective thankyou!
I have a bunny too and I thought he had gi stasis but my vet told me to massage its belly until I get there I did that for like 40 minutes and he started pooping again 😂 saved me 500 dollars
Thanks for the tip
YES PLEASE to the Emergency Care Info!!! Absolutely thankful and grateful for all the rabbit info you give on each video💖 Absolutely helped me with my two binky buns🐰🐰
We’ve spent ALOT on our bunny, but,it’s absolutely worth it!!! And we were blessed with only a $200 neuter!!!!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for making this! I will definitely share this with my friend who has a sister wanting a bunny!

Hillside equestrian treats Does it grow fast enough to consistently feed your bunny or do you have a lot of plants?
I buy a giant bag of rabbit food for just $15 for my two rabbits from tractor supply. We also get giant bags of bedding, but we want to switch to wood pellets for their litter boxes. The rabbits live in separate cages (they’re not spayed YET) and one of them (specifically my rabbit) lives in a small cage because I share a room with my sister, but she will be moving to a larger hutch cage (or a homemade one) once I move into my new room (getting a loft bed+rabbit cage underneath bed). Then she will also be able to free roam my room once she’s spayed, but still comes out of her cage and goes outside and everything.
i just wanna say, why is there even a dislike button. She is only speaking facts so only a non bunny owner must have disliked this video.
Probably bots

Hi, Haley! Your videos are so helpful and insightful to new bunny owners like me. I was wondering if any of your bunnies ever had the snuffles and if so, if you can make a video on how to diagnose and treat it!
Me and my bunny Betty sat and watched the whole video together! 🥺💖
Wonderful and educational. Learned a lot from this young lady. Keep up the amazing job, 101Rabbits! 🙏🏻
If anyone else going to talk about how cute Hailey is this video?
Yes they do lmao selfish asf not to get them a friend
@happybunnies4382 So YOU pay for her 2nd rabbit then...👀🫠
So true they are so much work. I love you Healy.
I still need to bunny proof a little more and get my bunny emergency kit together
im getting 2 rabbits (8months old from someone who was giving away) and im stressing out so much but your channel is helping sm
She looks like such a nice person!
I adopted a baby bun for $150, included the cage and some food and water bottle.
After that for my travel carrier and some more food for $90
After that just a checkup is $50-100 (first one for me was 51)
So for the first week I have spent ~$300.
You are ADORABLE! ♥️ Thank you for all the information 👍❤️
Early! Love you Hailey.
I’m adopting two Rex bunnies soon
Your videos have helped me prepare me a lot for my bunnies!
No one:
Haley every 5 seconds: “I also have this on my shop if any of you are interested”
No hate intended, love your channel ❤️
XD trueeeeeeeee
My bunny is a year old and he has cost me over $5000 in vet costs, dental work, toys, food, cages, play yards, floor covering for his room, trips to a bunny vet (2 hours one way), medication, vegetables, etc. I will never advise anyone to get a bunny if they don’t have the money, the time, the dedication and a room (yes, a room! Not a cage!). Bunnies are delicate pets that require a lot of care, attention and training. You also must have access to specialized vet care!
currently sitting with my bunny Ash and watching your videos
I’m working towards getting another rabbit for mine, I only have one and I don’t want him to get lonely :)
Should you let your rabbits be in a small bathtub first or a large play time area? This is for bonding.
LARGE PLAYTIME AREA!!! I prefer and suggest playtime areas to be separate, however!
If you mean bonding them, a bathtub with towels on the bottom. If you mean right after you bring them home, put them in their forever home with some hiding places
lazy homebody never put your rabbits in a bathtub! Why would you bond your rabbits in a bathtub? They need a large area with options to hide and escape to, a lot of different food and drinking stations and time
It was only $60 to neuter my bunny several years ago in north Florida.
It's kind of cheap but that's in my opinion because it's usually expensive to do that what usually a hundred or something I think
i dont know how many people are from Vegas but as for bunnies the cost for them at the animal foundation (shelter) are $35!
We have to pay,
Neuter when he was a baby,
£82 for vaccinations (per year)
And lots and lots of veggies (£8 a week) for 1 bunnies and 3 guinea pigs,
Lots of hay,
Debunked items,
Litter,
Toys,
And what's free, love ❤
Oh and I forgot, I am going to rescue an obese bunny with overgrown claws and sore hocks (not spayed) from my uneducated nanas back garden because she thinks it's alright to keep her in a wire bottomed cage. She is fed nothing but Carrot and Apple and I know she will die. She is so perfect and gorgeous I really dont think that she deserves what shes getting. It was either our house or the high kill shelter so I know that she needs to come to our house, get spayed and best of all,
BECOME FRIENDS WITH MY LONELY BUNNY AT HOME!! Omg.... they could get married but just not have kids! (Because they will both be neutered)
Xx Pets and Life xX do it so she doesn’t die
Happy early birthday Haley
I love you ❤️
Rabbit: I want food
Me: toy?
Rabbit: do i look stupid?
I am stupid
You can adopt rabbits for 8-10 dollars here :/ rabbits aren't though of very highly around here and it's rare to find someone that doesn't keep bunny's in pet store cages and hutches.
Same here... That's how it is here in Michigan.
we found bunnies at this abandoned house and we toke in the rabbits. but vet bills and food costs can stack up
I know its a video about bunnies but your hair looks amazing!
I’m literally gonna order sooo much stuff for my bunny of your site I love your products.🐰🐰
I cant get a pair but my bunny is happy and stuff alone yea he would be way happier with another but I dont have th money
Please reconsider and get another rabbit as soon as you are financially able to! If my English seems a bit off, because I’m not using appropriate words since my native language is German, I apologize in advance and hope you will understand me regardless
Can my rabbit live alone?
-Are you there for your rabbit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, until it dies?
- Will you brush his ears and lick his eyes?
- Are you bobbing around with him and exploring the surroundings?
- Are you lying about seven hours a day with body contact together with your rabbit?
- Can you speak the rabbit language and talk to your rabbit in everyday life?
- Do you keep watch when your rabbit sleeps and knocks when a potential enemy approaches, so that your rabbit can really relax while sleeping because it knows you're watching?
- ...etc
! If you can't answer these questions with yes, your rabbit needs another rabbit as a partner !
Think about ist:
Even if you spend four hours a day working intensively with your rabbit, it's still 20 hours a day alone and lonely.
What scientific studies tell us about individual housing/keeping:
Rabbits living alone move less than rabbits in the group.
Here is a quote, translated to English, by „Bundesverband praktizierender Tierärzte e.V“ which is a Federal Association of Practicing Veterinarians:
Probably the most common problem in pet husbandry is monotony and associated boredom.
@@arigatou312 so i took your aduve i got 3 new bunnies (and the bunnie i already had to thats 4 bunnies bc i can) and bruh the all hate each other- and me-
@@Pikyoh I'm presuming you haven't bonded then properly?
@@arigatou312 I agree with all of the things you said but I want to add something to what you said bunnies are different and there are occasionally rabbits that can't live with another rabbit also rabbits can live nicely alone but unless they have been with a partner before
Hi I’m first I think 🤔 I love your channel I’ve been watching you and Lennon because I want to maybe get a bunny
I am so sorry yesterday my two rabbits were killed by rat
I did the same for 2 years before getting my bunny. I would also watch Stormy Rabbits and Victoria Raechelle's channel, and a couple other professional vet or rabbit rescue organization channels on TH-cam over that time. I also visited official websites like House Rabbit Society (rabbit.org) for information on caring for rabbits.
Get a rabbit they may seem like a lot of work but their worth it!
I love your rabbits and I love your channel so much
Rabbits like any toys that involve food because they love food.
Me too
My two cost 2500-300 the first year. I live in California and one hay bale is 27 dollars and about 30 bc tax. A cheap price for adoption for one where I live is 100 dollars. My estimate is without the vet bills!
