I have absolutely no reason to be watching this particular video. So, here I am. I have the cat on my lap and am two coffees into the morning, engrossed by the video presentation and author's delivery and enjoying every second of the video and even rewinding at times to review. I wonder whether somewhere deep inside me there's a mechanic striving to get out.
Ive workef on 2 and 4 cycle engines for close to 40 years and have seen many 4 strokes with fuel or oil hydo locked cylinders. If its oil, they have tipped it over to the carb side, and depending on how the valves stopped, it will determine where the oil will go . If it stops with the intake valve open, it can go into the carb , if it's the exhaust, it will go into the muffller .gas can do the same . This is on something like a lawnmower etc .
As usual you are the boss of them engines! You amaze me with your knowledge of these motors! But I would appreciate more videos of these fixes! Way to go Brandon!👏👏👏👏
sure like this video and looking for the followup that to come., in am from good old Cedar City mysellf.. i had a new 15hp elec start model omc when i worked for Brinkmans in vallejo, cal. to me the best small out in this class was the last gen Merc two stroke, i have a merc 15 hp 4 stroke now.and a 2..5 hp 4stroke. also.
Hi again Brandon thanks for your reply.can you now tell me where you are and where your workshop is located please ,I intend to visit you when I am out that way .many thanks stewart
The Chinesium push lawn mower engines / power washers are the same way. Always 2 pulls... or 1 if you're fast enough to push the choke in. They always seem to want one pull with choke, smoking hot or ice cold. (edit) I wonder if it has to do with the compression release.
The fuel pump on these fall apart inside and cause the dying problem, I have a LOT of hours into mine after almost 20 years and still have problems, the next thing I’m gonna do is try to fix the weak peeing, it’s overheating after 10min under load, probably mud dauber in the water pump hose.
I’ve worked on a brand new Yamaha 9.8 hp 4-stroke that wouldn’t start because of oil in the carburettor. It was from being transported lying the wrong way up! Easy fix, but on a new motor that’s never been run?
Hi BRandon, I was wondering, is there a way to add a "Touch Troll" kit to an Evinrude Etec, remote controled, that isn't an "AFA, "AB" or "AGA" model? For example, the one I'm looking to buy is a E15HPSLAA, so I assume that's an "AA" model, and I wonder why it can't be controled with a "touch troll" kit, just like a tiller version can, it seems pretty weird to me.
Too bad this was years ago lol. I just bought a semi nice one and got stranded on the lake. Definitely had the motor on its side. Definitely got oil in the carb. But it ran perfectly then would start run and die every time after lol. I completely replaced the carb only to find out my damn primer bulb was bad an the gas tank. Haven’t take. Her back out on the lake simply cuz I don’t wanna drain and fill the oil every trip. If you were to suggest a side to lay it on would it be carb and oil filter facing up??
I have a 98 evinrude 9.9 4 stroke. It runs fine until well up to temperature. It is putting out water cooling tube when running. At wide open throttle, the engine is only at idle Any thoughts?
4strokes now ?? Well I guess it’s going to happen sooner or later ! Quiet YES Heavy YES Speedy NO Basically it’s a Briggs motor ! Was it your camera or did it have a bad vibration? If it’s not right for that boat then what boat is it good on ? A bigger and heavier boat = less speed I don’t know .
Brandon, I have the 15hp version of this abomination. There is an accelerator pump under the carb that leads to the tell tale. This doesn't look right to me and I can't find anything in the service manual. Any help?
@@wesb6327 I finally figured it out. The line under that pump was plugged. I ran a small drill bit through it and it's now pumping water. This thing has been the biggest POS outboard I've ever owned.
these where highly problematic. OMC original design just nudged them closer to bankruptcy. bought them from Suzuki when BRP took over. had many issues with fuel pumps. they appear the same for te 3-15hp motors so easy enough to replace i'd think. i doubt the valves have moved much or atleast are the issue. these things are notorious for bringing you down the wrong rabbit-hole.
I inherited the 15hp version about 5 years ago. About once a year I take it out and try to get it going and have failed. I can get it to run for about 10 minutes then dies. I think it's overheating. Weird thing is the tell tale is hooked up to what I think is an accelerator pump mounted under the carb. I broke down and bought the factory manual and can't find anything about the cooling system or that accelerator pump. This abomination of a motor is kicking my rear, but I refuse to give up on it.
Maybe some dumb tech thought it was a 2 stroke and put motor oil in the gas?? lol It is a resort, they hire 14 year olds.. The taped over oil can was hilarious, welldone.

100 + lbs .. ! That's why I love my Suzi 15 2stroke... 68 lb. 👍👍

Thank you for this, I just bought one from a guy close to cedar city
Honestly the engine being full of oil probably saved a ton of corrosion.
Thanks for starting this series.Very educational.
I love my 4 stroke Yamaha kicker. Upper in the PNW four stroke Yamaha kickers are on nearly every fishing boat. With four stroke Mercs a close 2nd.
Short or long videos doesn't matter. I watch them all. Good work B.
I have the same motor. Fuel pump always seems to be an issue. They are very hard to find these days

It sounds real nice fuel pump issues aside. Nice find for sure. Someone will pay good money for that as a kicker or trolling motor.
Bro, you have to check out the solder seal connectors. I'll never crimp again for the rest of my life. These are so easy to use and they seal well.
This is the way.

Great vid!
Really enjoy your videos sir!! What’s the best way for a fellow Arizonan to get ahold of you for some future boat repairs. Thanks!!
I have one of these engines and there's nothing you can do they are very cold-blooded.

Same spark plug as every Harley Davidson I've had. Recognized that part number.

you can lay them in a truck theres a certain side to lay it on to avoid oil in the cylinders

Bring back the 2 strokes.
Cant beat the power to weight ratio of a 2 stroke!

Do you work on customers outboards? I have a 30hp Etec that would really appreciate your touch
They should have switched to the four stroke and maybe they would still be in business!

I have a 96 9.9 hp marc the plug gap is .060"
Hey Brandon please tell me where the river is located where you try out your outboards. Thank you Stewart.
That's the Colorado River, launching from Needles, CA
You can transport on the aide no problem. For honda i know u lay it tiller up. Merc is opposie i beleive.
when you start it sometimes I see it cough out the carburetor ,, wondering if it needs a small valve adjustment..
Probably. But it's the idle circle, so it fine if I don't idle.
;)

No?

Got any extra good cdi boxes for these you want to sell?
How can I get a gas pump for one
Who made that for OMC? Kazuki
OMC Manufactured
@@BrandonsGarageinteresting, I wondered if it was Japanese sourced.
Sure looks like a Tahatsu almost every brand under 20hp is
@@scottmann1015 I had no idea.
Don’t you need to change the oil and filter?
BRANDON how big was that aluminum. Im buying a boat and dont want something that wont plane out
anything under 175lbs is what you want. a 14' is ideal, and the 15hp version of this motor is more enjoyable.
My ‘91 20hp Merc weighs 112 lbs.
25hp is the same as well. legendary little beasts!
Is this related to Suzuki?
Looks very very familiar to my 25hp suz.
Are they more fuel efficient than say a 1970 Johnson 9.5?
Yeah, about half the fuel consumption.

All or most 4 strokes lay only on one side the other side fills the cylinders full of crank oil
Yep, same thing for mowers. You lean it over on the wrong side (carb down), the PCV valve lets oil into the carb.
There’s no way there will ever be a 50 y/o 4-stroke. Just too many moving parts and maintenance.
Maybe some dumb tech thought it was a 2 stroke and put motor oil in the gas?? lol It is a resort, they hire 14 year olds..
The taped over oil can was hilarious, welldone.
4stroke outboards are crap. I love my 2strokes.
Its just from being on wrong side im sure fourstroke outboards are lame
