I realize I am 6 months behind here, but I'm slowly catching up.
I am SO PROUD of you for hearing Construction Time Again in this Pet Shop Boys song.
Ive thought the same thing for 30 years.

Back in my college days, had a tape deck and we would all collectively bring in a wide assortment of albums for it to play in the background while we all studied. One day I ended up taking in my newly purchased cassette of Pet Shop Boys 'Please' and no word of a lie the tape never got took out again. We all ended up knowing every song by heart and would sing or hum along to them all as our heads remained down deep in study. The perfect background album. Good times.

Irish superfan here and Nial has stated that this was originally written just for a laugh! They also said that its their reaction to capitalism and thatcherism in the 80s. ;-)

I recommend the Pet Shop Boys for your next album series. Many great albums and single b-sides.

1986. Thatchers britain. Love it or hate it. This was one of the anthems for working in London at the time.

Pet Shop Boys have several really good hits. Most popular on dance clubs on late 80s, early 90s.

The PET SHOP BOYS PLEASE Album is one of my favorite. I love this song. Their most popular song though is probably WEST END GIRLS! My personal favorite is SUBURBIA! I just saw them with New Order in Chicago a couple months ago!

Another classic master piece from the pop geniouses! Awesome stuff, love that you're doing these reactions of older stuff.
But let's see...Depeche Mode....Pet Shop Boys.....natural progression would be Erasure and Yazoo...a rabbit go,e which would keep you going for years 😍

this Industrial sound comes from Art Of Noise, when they were mixing the album in the studio, AON were there , so Neil Tennant asked the guys for a remix for this song, Neil Liked it so much that he scrapped his original and used it instead for the album

SEPH, This is actually a GREAT song! Plus I knew it from before. Classic Rock Radio does play a lot of these more requested "oldies but goodies". Trouble is, they'll play thirty minutes of non-stop music with no interruptions, and I end up never hearing who the artist was. Now this music will stick in my head..and that's a good thing. THANK YOU!

As much as you seem to like Elvis, it will be interesting to see your reaction to PSB cover of his hit "Always On My Mind". They originally recorded it for an Elvis tribute television special. It became a worldwide hit. Although many purists to the original were probably not too keen on having a (sappy?) ballad turned into a dancefloor anthem. IMHO, the whole point of doing a cover is to make it your own, so I find all of their covers delightfully different.

And pet shop boys are the only band to get to number 1 with always on my mind it was Christmas number 1 in the UK in 1987

I love how you picked out my favorite part of the song as your favorite as well. It's the modulated bridge where Neil goes high singing "there's a lot of opportunities if you know where to take them..."

If you're one of those rare people who's never heard "Take On Me" by a-ha or seen the video, then you really have to do that one (preferably the famous video made with animation). If you like 80s, you also want to be hearing "What is Love" by Howard Jones and "Wouldn't it be Good" by Nik Kershaw.
