Usually fluting for taps is usually accomplished on a milling machine with a dividing head; after that the square is cut in then the tap goes for hardening and then final grinding / sharpening. One caviat though, if one needs a certain class of fit for the threaded hole they may need to close up their tolerance in the final grind and also will the tap be a Taper, Plug, or Bottoming tap. One needs this information before final grinding takes place. Heat treatment HAS to soak for at least 10 to 15 minutes for taps using tool steels of course. The quench medium brine water, oil ( usually heavy mineral oil) or air for A-2 tool steel.
I’ve seen some pretty ingenious craftsmanship from using scraps of nothing but this is not it. In a desperation situation that stub of broken tap would have worked better. You wouldn’t even be able to tap aluminum with that. That thing would instantly seize up. That carbide burr cost more than a cheap tap. - From a machinist of 45 years.

I tried this a few years ago and that tap won‘t cut because there‘s no clearance angle on the cutting edge. The threads of the tool will cause a ton of friction what makes cutting threads impossible. That‘s probably the reason why he doesn‘t show it cutting

Now grind the old tap off flat and use the tool post grinder to put the taper back on the old tap and you will have a nice working short tap. It works great I do all I break if enough is left.

I'll just order a replacement tool, and I've got a couple of spares anyway. Rather use a sharp and precise tool. My time is more valuable than tools are.
Went thru all that then hardened in about 2oz of oil. The idea w oil quench is to remove that heat in a quick but controlled manner. It should be submerged in oil w plenty of extra oil all around it. Dipping it in a coffee can full of oil would have been a much better option. I guess it's OK if ur tapping like a brie or other very soft cheeses.
Give the guy credit for what he did accomplish, wether or not the tap was hardened correctly is something you will never actually know. Now go buy something easy, like store bought.
This is why production is much more efficient in Asia. If this was in the 🇬🇧 or 🇺🇸 the lathe would be surrounded by perspex and the operator would be required to spend 45 minutes dressing in safety equipment and the performing a list of maintenance checks before the part was even sourced.

Este acero que muestran en este video ya dió lo que iba a dar en otro campo de la mecánica. Aquí en Colombia(mecánico que se respete) tiene prohibido hacer una pieza mecánica de otra que ya hizo una función diferente, es un acero "fatigado". Un machuelo, con todo el trabajo que debe hacer, debe ser de hss(acero rápido) es decir hss(high speed steel). Que es un acero que aguanta la presión en cada diente y la fricción del corte al otro acero blando.

Скорее всего муляж. Максимум для прогона по старой резьбе. Вряд ли таким нарезать новую резьбу. Может в латуни или алюминии что-то можно будет
