5:11 idli is an everyday dish. It’s healthy and has gut friendly probiotics. Hence it’s very simple. The coconut chutney taste varies, but is not supposed to be super spicy, it’s more subtly nutty. 7:57 that’s because when you take dosa as takeout the heat steams it. Dosa is best when you as soon as it’s cooked for good crispineness and crunch. Packing it in box will steam up because of inherent heat
You may never see this but YB I am so fucking damn proud of you for loving indian food properly, researching history, researching how to eat the food, pronouncing words correctly ❤️
Lentil is very diverse and tasty . Although chicken 65 is south Indian dish but it's considered as a Indo-chinese dish , which is also very popular cuisine(Indo-chinese)of India. It originated from the former capital of India, Kolkata the city of joy and melting part of culture by the Chinese immigrants. Mostly they left only 1% still living there. The cuisine makes Chinese food with Indian spices and ways . Like Chicken lolipop, chawmin, Manchurian, momos/dumplings, fish and meatball soup , chili chicken, fried rice, mostly popular. And you can get in every protin like Chicken, pork , fish , also vegetarian because lots of Indians are vegetarian but chicken one is very famous.
Actually chicken Manchurian is Indo Chinese, chicken 65 is purely chettinad. Though technically chicken Manchurian is only known in India because it’s basically an Indian dish with the use of soy sauce and chilli sauce, hence the name so that back then in just independent India when this dish was created, people get the feeling of eating something exotic and international.
If I ever want a break from the more popular wet sauce dishes (I know a lot of us call them "curry", but not all sauce dishes are curries...), wet Biryani is a good back up dish. I like the balance of the dry rice with the wet sauce. Thanks for sharing these dishes with us :)
The doggo not losing his mind with all that aroma of the food is making me lose my mind!!!??? And no one has commented about it either (I checked) How is he soo not interested in what you guys are eating ??? Have you checked him for aliens ? His level of cuteness is unprecedented ....and has left scientists astonished ! 😅
I’m South African but ethnically South Indian, it’s interesting how similar and at the same time different the foods I’ve grown up with are in America.
The rasam is more of a final course and you eat with rice. The word rasam itself loosely translates to soup, but there are variations of it in different regions, but generally, it's meant to aid in your digestion after a hearty meal.
Thank you for taking us along on another food adventure! I hope the fires in the LA area aren't causing you, your family or the extended try family any issues. 🧡
Really enjoyed watching the video, you guys just got me hungryyyy😂😂😋😋 And I really appreciate the efforts that was put to explain in the introduction part and the dishes!!👏
my recommendation as a south indian, rasam is advised (not compulsory but must of us eat it this way) to eat with rice, just a bowl of rice and pour rasam (which looks like a porridge) and have it. Dosa is dipped in sambar/chutney and same goes for Uthappam, Also along with biryani there should be a yoghurt based side to decrease the heat from biryani. Vada is also dipped in chutney/sambar (again not compulsory). Dosa and Idly is supposed to be bland because it is mostly consumed as breakfast, it is an excellent source of probiotic since it is made from the fermented rice lentil batter.
B@@YBChangOfficial kurma is south indian too .. actually we in South India use more kurma than north... Try Kerala dishes it will be very less spicy ... Kindly try idli and dosa with that kurma minus those potato filling
Thanks for the history lessons, YB. South Indian food looks delicious. I'm surprised Herbert didn't use "moist" in his summary. 😉How about some Belizean Food next? Or take Herbert to an AYCE Korean BBQ and see how much meat he can put away?
With Indian food you need to do a lot more mix and match. Like I cannot have dosa without the coconut chutney. you can do the dosa with the suka meat also. Mix and match and then find your perfect blend.
I did saw Sambhar Vadai but did the restaurant forgot to give the Sambhar separately? Idli, Dosa, Vada and Uttappam are usually served with Sambhar. I might skip chutneys but Sambhar is a must for me.
Yay! You did great with the pronunciation all things considered. My parents are originally from Kerala (pronounced care - uh - la) so most of these items are very familiar to me. I also love North Indian food, but if I only had to choose one, I'd go with South Indian because it's way spicier.
Aaah, now I can't wait for my mom's food for lunch! I also recommend papadum (in Sri Lanka, we call it appalam). Personally, it's a must have with literally every curried dish I eat. My mom thinks I'm weird for that, but I just love it that much~ Thank you for this video! I don't know a lot of the history about the food we eat, so this was educational for me.
Hi YB!!! Always love watching you guys try new foods!! I have actually done a little bit of Indian cooking before. Not a big fan of the heavy spices, but I do love that they incorporate potatoes into many dishes and absolutely loved that you discovered lentils. 👱♀️💯☺️
YOU never SCARE to EAT FOOD but YES YOU have to be AWARE OF IT "What You Eat & How to Eat". By the way the KISS you gave at the LAST OF VIDEO is Only For ME..☺️💜
Gosh this looks so good. I haven’t gone to my neighborhood Indian restaurant in a bit 😅 Give me potato anything in Indian Cuisine and I’ll probably love it. I’m so hungry watching this.

Idli is supposed to be bland. It's one of the healthiest foods. It's the best food for people who are sick when they have no appetite as it's not heavy and easy to digest. What u had today was mostly the popular dishes but Indian states are so diverse. U have to try food from the state of Karnataka. If u try raagi mudde from here then keep in mind ur not supposed to chew it but swallow it whole. This one is mostly considered the food with an acquired taste. But I do wish u would try it as it's another most healthy food of south Karnataka.
India is a 5,000 year old civilization. It was already a developed nation in every aspect of life including Cooking. Britishers or other invaders came to India in search of variety spices that only grew in India. They didn't introduced cooking methods :)
@@TD1237 May be! But in reality a lot of things have been falsely attributed to Mughals by historians. For ex Biryani (Neither the rice Nor spicees grew in their region at that time).
You should try food from Kerala if you can! We neighbour Tamil Nadu. There are a lot of seafood options. My personal recommendations are porotta and beef fry (a staple!), tapioca and fish curry, and kerala style chicken curry.
8:02 The crime of not dipping the dosa in Chutney and sambar 💔🥹 it's obviously will taste basic caz you didn't even tried looking for "How to eat Dosa/uttapam ?" Or any dish...💔🥹

What's a wet biryani?
It's more sauce I think and probably prepared differently than other Biryani where it seems more dry.

I love masala dosa. But you really do have to eat it fresh. It’s hot and crispy.
