VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Holy s-word. It’s finally happening. This photography exhibit that I haven’t shut up about since June is now becoming a reality. Months of mock-ups, spreadsheets, scanning, printing, and framing…it’s all led to this. I’ve brought you along every step of the way and I ain’t about to ditch you now.
In this video I’ll take you through install day and talk about the hard numbers of the whole thing - how much did this project set me back? What am I selling each piece for? And for anyone too far to visit the gallery in person, I even got a little walkthrough to share with ya. Then I’ll wrap it up with a recap of opening night and my final thoughts on the experience.
And speaking of that…this has been one hell of an experience for me. It was a lot of work, but I truly enjoyed the entire process. From planning out the gallery walls to high-rez scanning the negatives to installing the artwork, even when it was difficult or stressful I could always feel an underlying cushion of “goddamn this is awesome.” The more years I spend in photography the more I’m realizing how much my passion for printing is the ultimate driving force. I love taking photos, no doubt, but getting a print hung up on the wall…there’s really nothing like it.
If you’d like to see my first ever solo photography gallery showing featuring all analog film photography images, be sure to stop in to Casa Romantica Cultural Center & Gardens in San Clemente, CA. The exhibit is titled “American Desert” and is on display until December 17th.

God this made me so, so happy. Nothing but the best for you, dude.
God loves you so! John 3:16✝️
A modern day DaVinci. Not so much because the work is great, but because the force that brought them into being is no less intense than what Leonard put into his work. We need this level of intensity in our lives, it ennobles the rest of us.
Oh man I wish I could give a hundred likes for this. The story itself, the emotion, the editing style, I love it all.
Had to pleasure of being there opening night. I now know why you get excited when you get the print. Your photos are amazing. They were all great but the “Desert Hopper” stood out to me personally. I felt like I was standing there in front of that hopper in the Mojave. I was so nervous meeting you but it was truly a pleasure.
It was great experience. Thank you Nick. 🙂
WOW! The price of being an artist! Did you say something like ‘29 pieces of my heart and soul’? That’s a very high price.
You have planted some world-class seeds, Nick. I hope there is a great harvest for you.
Your videos reveal the ‘hands and head and heart’ of the real Nick Carver.
If I may say; I think the authenticity with which you show up, is very attractive to aspiring photo creators.
And may I recommend that you ask for a little support from your many followers? If we all bought you a coffee, it would help with your many expenses.
Thanks for this brilliant series of videos, and for sharing your authentic joys and troubles. I’m sure there are thousands of us who agree that you deserve more than a pat on the back. Please set up a ‘coffee account’ with YT.
The most touching point here is you hugging your brother, family is EVERYTHING !!!!
As a preparator in an art museum, I'm glad you enjoyed the hanging process! It's a great feeling, seeing it all go up.
This was an awesome series. I wish I could have made it for opening night. I’d love to see these up close. Great job Nick.
To coincide visiting my son in Irvine and being there for your opening night to see your awesome prints and to meet you, was just incredible....my lost for words Kenton Nelson moment! To appear with my son in one of your videos...beyond belief!!. A night we will never forget.Thank you so much. You should be so proud of your work and talent Nick and we are privileged that you share it with us.
When Ansel Adams presented Alfred Stieglitz with a stack of his photographs for his opinion, it is said, he shuffled through them twice. Examining each one. When he finished, and I paraphrase, he said "I am an admirer of great workmanship and this it outstanding". Nick, your work bring this to mind.
I'm preparing for my first public showing of my pictures... Watching your 4 vids is immensely helping me through my own drama not unlike your own... I feel more confident having watched you go through and resolve some of your own issues that resembled my own!!! My showing will start beginning of December which seems like a long way off but time just accelerates when you are preparing for a new experience!!!
"Bent" and "Desert Hopper" are top notch.
You are by far, my favorite photography TH-camr.
The amount of time and effort that you put in to this exhibition is crazy. Hopefully those who have the privilege of going to see appreciates your hard work. Great to see the end product on the walls...Hats off. Continued success.
I love that your brother showed up. My family has a tendency to do things like this where we "crash" things that are important, but aren't always the easiest to get to. Hopefully I can make it out there before your exhibit closes. If not, I will recommend all my California friends and family stop by. Thank you again for the inspiration to print and show our art.
I do not know you, I have only ever seen you here on TH-cam. From that scant familiarity, I feel you have not only earned your success, you deserve it. I hope going forward you will continue to post here, as your videos are both informative and inspiring. Thank you. Congratulations!
Almost made me tear up, so happy for you dude! The level of dedication and perfection is so inspirational… well deserved to say the least
The transition at 6:23 is top shelf.
I was in Dana Point this week on a trip and made a point to drive down the coast to see your photography exhibit at Casa Romantica. All of your photographs were quite stunning and very well displayed. Your attention to detail was obvious. While I have seen most of the images via your videos nothing compares to seeing them presented in person. Your photo exhibit will definitely be a highlight moment of my trip. Thanks for all your hard work and to everyone in the area make a point to go see them in person.
Nick, congratulations on a very successful opening to your gallery show🎉 🍾🥂
Your dedication to detail is amazing & the proof is your feedback from attendees!
Anyone who put that kind of effort in deserves the rewards
Inspirational 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇦🇺👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I did enjoy the whole video series, Nick. No surprises on the show opening other than the wonderful surprise of your brother being there. That had to be great for both of you! I knew you would be blown away with meet and greet. So many people to smile with and shake hands with and answer questions for. The high is so great it will take several days for you to come back down to the ground. I'm glad you had someone there who made video of the reception. You will cherish that for the rest of your life. No matter how many more gallery shows you hang there is only one first. Congratulation, Nick, you have that one in the bag.
I'm on the other side of the globe, well more to the bottom, Australia. Your artwork and exhibition are an inspiration to say the least Nick.
Get it Nick! You've worked so hard for this, and seeing it all go off without a hitch must be so rewarding.
It was a great art opening! So cool to see it all in person. Congratulations again. The whole video series was very inciteful, thanks for letting us seen behind the scenes of prepping for the show.
Feel so pleased for you Nick. As a long time part of your community I can really feel the journey that has come to this. Thanks for sharing being over in New Zealand I appreciated the opportunity to experience your exhibition. First of many I’m sure.
Fabulous! So glad it was a huge success; you truly deserve it. Also Nick, I want to say how much I appreciate you making this series on the entire process. Your generosity in sharing your experience does not go unnoticed by all of us. You lift the standard, you make us all better!
This has been a great motivational series to get me ready for my own photo exhibit which is hanging up right now! It's been cool to watch you on your journey...
So glad to know now that it went well in the end. It makes me a bit sad that we're so used to viewing photographs on monitors these days, and it just cannot compare. The best thing with physical prints is there is no scrolling or swiping features. If we want to see something else we need to physically move ourselves. I just like that about physical prints that it's just there in your face and it adds authenticity.
14:07 The detail is insane
You really deserved such a great show, I'm really happy so many people showed up and were able to convey the appreciation in person. I don't comment much but your videos mean a lot to me and I'm happy that you were able to have people say how much they love your work face to face.
The float mounting of the wide panoramic images in the black frames is very cool, I like the way that presents a lot.
As an amateur photographer watching your channel the last few years has been inspirational. I need to make the jump and print off some of my photos
You should be so proud of this Nick , I so wish that I could see the exhibition and buy one of your works , your pursuit of perfection and attention to detail is amazing to see . Love your work and really hope you get the recognition you deserve and make loads of sales !
6:19 *chefs kiss* transition
So pleased for you Nick. Really has been a labour of love, and it’s been a complete joy sharing the journey with you. Thank you!
Drove up to San Clemente yesterday from San Diego to check out the exhibit. Cool setting. Enjoyed seeing them in person after seeing them on TH-cam. My wife who is not really into photography found some she really liked also. Afterwards we went down to the pier for lunch and generally made a nice day out of the trip.
It is too bad there isn't a way to link the videos to at least some of the photos. For me at least, knowing the stories behind the photos greatly enhances my enjoyment of them. As I told some of the people there I feel like through the magic of TH-cam I was there when they were taken.
I
Casa Romantica is a gorgeous venue and you're very fortunate to be able to show your work there...congratulations!
Congratulations, what an amazing achievement. You've accomplished so much over the years and it has been an absolute joy to have been along for the ride and share all of this with you. Thank you so much for sharing and encouraging so many, including myself, to take more photos and especially to make prints. I hope to have a gallery show myself one day. Thank you for all the inspiration.
From the EP to this, you've really knocked it out the park this year Nick! Looking forward to see what you produce in 2024, especially as you have your own printer now!
After following you for so many years, I’m really happy for your accomplishment! It’s one of the best feelings to share ones work with other people. Sadly I will not be able to travel from Berlin to SoCal, but thanx for taking me on the ride!!!
i love this series so much but it's also a bit heartbreaking for me because it reminds me of how much i missed doing all these. i studied fine arts and even though the education throughout the years was alright, working on exhibitions was just soooo much fun. it's so fun that one even enjoys getting tired or hungry. not many people have the chance to experience such a thing, and it maddens me that i cannot for a while either. you did an awesome job, and i always look up to you. you deserve much more attention and respect
Thanks and congrats Nick, you have earned all the success you get! And please continue on the location series, because seeing how your pictures have been made, makes me, in a way, part of the story. You know, without the back story the Mona Lisa would be just a painting
Congrats Nick! Only a very small percentage of people understand what it takes to put together an exhibit. Taking the picture is one thing, but the rest is pretty much a pain in the ass, including answering the same questions 5-6 times in the same night while not coming across as irritated. Lol
Can’t express how happy I am for you! Beautiful photographs, awesome video series and and some well deserved success & adoration 🎉
This turned out really great and successful, Nick. Incredible! Lots of effort, care and love for the artistry, so really well done!
Desert Layers #1 has been a favorite of mine since you had first shown it. I’m glad to hear the show will be open through December. I grew up in Cali, call Costa Mesa and Orange County home but no longer live in Cali. I will be visiting again at the beginning of December for a weekend and possibly have a free day. I really hope I get to see your work in person and possibly even meet you. If not, I’ll still be appreciating through the work that you post here.
You absolutely nailed everything for your first gallery show. Your hard work and attention to detail shows. Congratulations, you deserve every success.
Desert Decay and The Ice Shack are two of my faves. I remember being anxious about the Ice Shack because the light was changing and people kept showing up. Love The Garage too. Good luck Nick, your hard work and efforts, I hope will pay off. All the best!
Nick, I am so happy for you. I have been a loyal follower for years. The exhibit is gorgeous.
Nick, a very attractive show setting with a great turn out. As an artist it is rewarding to see all your work hanging together in a nice setting. Nice job.
I'm glad it went so well. Your pictures are great. That desert hopper one has always been my favourite too. Well done, now get back on location!
I want to put together my own exhibition now. You've just lit a fire under my ass. Thank you for sharing as much of this process as you did. I'll be rewatching OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
This is incredible Nick. So friggin cool to see this come to life. Wish I could have been there. Congrats Nick!!!
👍🏾👏🏾📸 as a man who actually works for the Railroad I think you gave a very good artistic interpretation of it.
Phelix
Nick, I sent an RSVP saying that I (along with my wife and son) were going to make it to the opening. Unfortunately, I got pretty ill that day and ended up on the couch. I'm bummed we couldn't be there to support you. The rooms looked great with your artwork on those walls - Congrats. I've had my work at gallery shows as well and it isn't easy. There is so much work that needs to happen prior and the night it opens is a whirlwind! I'll try to come by soon. Hope a to meet you one day.
Perfectly executed from photo to print to presentation. A real accomplishment. I would love to have seen it in person.
I was beyond excited to see the walk through from here in Melbourne, the work looks spectacular and your attention to detail in the set up was next level. Those desert decay panos are just amazing and the smaller black and whites so fantadtic. Desert Hopper is one of my favs but seriously all your work is just amazing . I would loved to have been there and see it first hand. But you did the walk through - so grateful fir that. Congrats on the sales ,so well deserved . A book of the American Desert by Nick Carver , what are the chances ?
I bet there are other photographers [ amateur ] like me >who receive ongoing energy and enthusiasm from Nick C
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Awesome, major congrats
I had a great time on opening night. Outstanding photos and setting. I brought son, grandson, and friend. It was elegant. I enjoyed meeting you. I met some people to talk photography. I’m tempted to fly down there again to spend more time with each print. My favorite is the ice shack .
The transition at the 6:24 mark was sublime my friend! Looks great and congrats on the showing and outcome!
Congrats on a successful opening night, Nick! You must be super proud of how everything went after putting in so much hard work in preparation for the show. Very impressive body of work.
Beyond cool!!

So happy for you!!!
Congratulations.
Thanks for the inspiration Nick!
Sorry I couldn’t make it! If I was still in the area, I would definitely have come down.
Psyched that you had such a great showing. Hopefully people snatch the rest up! I’ve always loved your “symmetry” cactus shot. One of these days I’ll grab a large pano print from you. Until then I’ll appreciate them online!
Congrats Nick!
