I was born in Thailand with a Thai mom and American dad. Bilingual from childhood, but grew up in the States since 8 years old. But when I came back to Thailand when I was 22 years old, I got feedback on my telephone conversation was 100% Thai, but as a child!!! Also, some Western thinking crept thru in how I spoke; like “this is Jim” instead of “I’m Jim” - small things. Having other Thais to give you honest feedback is the best way to learn… active not passive. TV helped me acclimate the other way when I went to the USA. Lots of language and culture can be learned from TV. 😊🇹🇭🇺🇸🙏🏻
Absolutely right Jim! It takes me a while to process but it'll only get better as time goes by. Like I said, I feel like I have very basic Thai. Definitely need to learn more complex words and sentences to add to my vocabulary. But I'm sure I'll get there eventually.
There’s something very calming about watching you collect eggs Nat 😇
Hi there
@lifeinthailand , when’s the chicken run getting built then , there’s a project for you and lots of content for us , just an idea 😂
Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Hahaha cheers Ben!
Great vlog Nat. Thank you for your honesty. As an old farang living in Khon Kaen I agree with you entirely. As a 76 year old and having lived here for 11 years I couldn't be in a better place. I couldn't afford to live the standard of life I now have on my pension if I were in the UK, and oh, the food and weather which I enjoy, plus the people I meet here is amazing. For a young Thai man like you, the future is probably far better for you here than it would be in UK. You have achieved a lot in 8 months and now with your own little farm you are living an ideal way of life. The language will return over time so don't fret over it. I am glad to see that you are free ranging your chickens, they will be a lot healthier for that. As regards laying later in the day, that is due to the shorter daylight hours and as the weather cools they will not lay as many eggs. God bless you and the whole family. May you have a Very Happy and Blessed Christmas and a prosperous new year! ❤🙏
Well said 👍
Thanks so much Graeme! I think that Thailand is a great place and I'm happy to call it my home country. I'm very proud of our people, culture and diverse variety of foods here, this is what makes this country great. I just hope that the western influence doesn't creep in too much in the years to come.
Hi Natt. I am a Thai-American who left Thailand at the age of 2 for the US, and I am now approaching 56! I am planning to move back to the "motherland" for retirement in 2-3 years. Like you, my Thai language skill is about 70% fluency but I cannot read or write in Thai. Lately, I have been honing my Thai by watching TH-cam videos about learning Thai and I've slowly started to learn to read Thai using a book with audio. You're absolutely right about how modern Bangkok has become! The shopping malls in Bangkok far exceed what you find here in the States. The holiday decorations there alone put our holiday decorations to shame here. In a decade, Bangkok will be a major powerhouse with extensive modern public transportation networks and new skyrises. I've noticed too that the younger generation of Thais are more fluent in English than the older generation. This will be a key factor for Thailand to be able to compete in the global economy! Look forward to the next vlog!
Totally agree Kevin! The country has definitely come a long way in the past few decades! It's still developing and growing and I'm sure the economy will become better and better. I just hope that we keep our morals and cultural ways and not get influenced by the west too much, this is what makes Thailand great.
Thanks for the info 🙏
That was a brilliant, heartfelt vlog Nat. Thailand is not a third world country, in the past 20 years it has developed so much. I have seen it happen. Yes the UK is OK, worse places to live. But Thailand is the very few places in the world where you can be having a beer alone and you end up being invited to a party until 4 in the morning. Good, decent, kind people.
Thanks so much 🙏 Oh most definitely, it's really something that annoys me when people talk down on Thailand like that, a lot of changes have happened since I was here as a child and it's amazing to see! And yes that's exactly it, always very generous and welcoming! 😊🙏
🎄❄️ Wishing you a Merry Christmas and may you have a good health 💝, abundance and everlasting joy in your life.❤🎉🎊🎄❄️🥳
Ahh that's very kind of you, thank you! We hope you had a great Christmas and we wish you a happy new year! 😊🙏
Mai pen rai. You will learn. You still young. I stay here 23 years and understand a lot and talk nitnoy. 😂
Hahaha yeah I'll get there for sure!
It takes a chicken about 25 hours or so to produce an egg, so they each day they will get later laying for about 2 weeks, then they will skip a day, sometimes even 2 days before they start laying again, it a normal cycle they go through, and they seem to sync up once they've been together a while, which can be concerning when you see a 70-80% reduction in egg production for that day, but wait 48 hours before you do anything, unless you're seeing sick birds, then act immediately. Thailand has changed dramatically in the last 20 years, but everywhere does, you have to go with the flow, you can only work with what you have now. You are doing great, and you have friends/subscribers that will also be there to help if you need it.
Ahhh thanks for the info, Les, we really appreciate it! And thank you so much for all the support and generosity, it really does mean a lot to us 🙏 We hope you had a great Christmas and we wish you a happy new year! 😊
Your subject of discussion today was so interesting and Informative. All your videos are interesting but listening to your settling back home issues with language and That changes was very informative. Love your channel. So different from Farang Thai channels and in fact much .ore interesting. Cheers.
Thanks so much for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊🙏
Good tip on I.d Nat. I have stepson same as you from issan. Now a corporal in Aussie army.
Oh wow, impressive! 🙏
GREAT VIDEO NAT👏👌😋♥️ MERRY CHRISTMAS TO U , CAMILLA AND THE GIRLS👏👏👌😋🎉🎉🎄🎁♥️
Thanks so much, Kim! We hope you had a great Christmas! 😁🙏
Even in the 23 years I have been back and forward to Thailand it has noticeably got more westernised. We have a KFC now in the closest town. In the village though it is still unchanged and traditional. Love the old style village life.
Definitely!
Loved the video friend! Your insight on the Thai ID was welcomed as I’m currently going through the process and it’s laborious to say the least. Glad you got yours and are back on the house registration. Getting a village lead is key as I likely will have to go back if a little “greasing” of the machine doesn’t work. Hardest part is that my Thai mom is MIA in the states and I’m using my aunts to help me out. Wish me luck as I’m planning on moving back to our home of Chiang Mai then branching out to my birth home of Udon Thani. Keep up the great vlogs and your Futbol goal was legit💯⚽️ me pelong 💪🏼😂
Ahh thank you, I'm glad you found the video useful. Hope you can get your Thai ID too! It's such an important document to obtain here in Thailand. Hopefully you manage to get back to your birth place! That would be a great story!
Thanks for the advice! 🙏
Very good video re life in Thailand
Thailand is a wonderful country and like you say the Malls and all the factories are first world.
I can find anything I need in Thailand. The one matter which keep Thailand back is the lack of wanting to learn English by the Thais
English is an international language and untill Thailand realizes this they will have a problem being really accepted by the international community
I taught myself English's and it is my second language but i realized you need it right through the world.
Just be patient you will learn all you need to know re Thailand in due course and have the advantage you can speak Thai
Keep up the videos
Exactly that, we're willing to learn and we'll get there in time 😊
ยินดีต้อนรับกลับบ้านครับ
🙏🙏🙏
Nice one Nat. Lovely feeling out there in the morning collecting your eggs but I guessing you can’t beat the feeling of being the Thailand bloggers top goal scorer 😂😂 ❤️🇹🇭🙏
Thank you 🙏 Hahaha you know it, carrying the team! 😝😅
It’s going to seem different when Mallory then Kaya start speaking Thai too.
My granddaughter who is a toddler at the moment speaks 3 languages due to her mum and my son’s mixed heritage.
You guys will be full bilingual before you know it. 🙂😅
Would I be right in thinking that English vowel sounds may play a little part in learning Thai, and obviously pronunciation is a big part too.
It'll be very strange for sure! But we all need to learn the language if we want to stay and I'm sure we'll get there in our own time 😊 Oh wow, that's amazing, 3 languages at that age! I think the kids will find it easy once they start integrating and going to school etc, here's hoping 😅
You have done very well. Your whole family should be proud of you.
Ah thank you for the kind words 🙏
Enjoyed the talk mate. Keep up the hard work
Cheers Drew, back on the grind!
I will be back in Bangkok next week mate 😊 i can't wait , missing Thailand so much
Love that! It's hard to stay away 😅
Sure is mate , sitting at Sydney airport 🛫 it's busy as 🤣
@@trentpatton2616 I bet! Have a safe flight 🙏
You have a lock on the coop now? problem with theft? Merry Christmas to you and family
No problems, but better to be safe than sorry. Especially for when we were away in Pattaya and out for the day etc 😊🙏
Great video today. Enjoyed hearing how the transition has been for you. I’ve been to Thailand 30 times between 2005-2019 and can’t wait to return after my responsibilities end here in the US.
Thanks so much 🙏 Oh wow, that sound great!
Hey Natt one of your best vlogs mate… keep them coming ….
Thanks so much! 🙏
❤🙏🏻Mat. That was really interesting vlog.
😂Wishing you & your family a Fantastic Xmas & New Year!
🎉🤶🏻🎁💝💝💝🎄🍀🪷🎋🥂🍾🎊
Thanks so much, Wendy! We hope you had a great Christmas and we wish you a happy new year! 😊🙏
You will be able to speak Thai without translating from English to Thai and understanding without translating Thai to English in no time. It took me few years to process and translate both languages automatically without translating after moving to England in 1991! I didn’t have to study English from scratch here as I learned English from catholic schools. Now I even dream in English 😅. Practicing is a key…. Good content btw!
Thanks Nok, I'm glad I'm not the only one and I'm glad to hear it gets easier 😅 Practice makes perfect as they say and we'll definitely do just that! Especially when the kids start going to school etc. Thank you for watching and for your insight 😁
Great vlog ❤ xxx
❤️❤️❤️
Hi there
You’ve made me feel better about understanding and speaking thai , if you’re struggling I’m doing fine with next to no thai , I can order food get the car filled with diesel, the basics and a little more , but it is difficult especially being in my 60s , I learn some words but I find if I don’t actually use them in a sentence talking to someone I forget it very quickly, once I’ve used it I find it sticks , and living in isaan there’s the different words for the same thing as central thai , getting there slowly bit by bit , you’re settling in well as a family that’s the main thing
Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Ahh I'm glad it's made you feel better 😅 It's definitely a struggle but we'll get there, practice makes perfect as they say and you're right, the more you use it the more natural it becomes. We've got time and I'm sure we'll be able to study a bit more when the kids go to school etc. We're loving life in Thailand that's for sure 😁 Thank you for watching, Davy 🙏
Just found your channel, and love it. We agree with you, we don't think of Thailand as 3rd world at all, as the health care and dental care is far superior than our own western country. We love Thailand and can't wait to get back to Thailand but next time (within next year) permanently.
Ahhh we're glad you're enjoying the channel, that's great to hear! Most definitely, we couldn't agree more! We definitely have a better quality of life here than in the UK. Wow, good for you, we wish you all the best with your move 😊🙏
Definatly in the tourist areas Nat
Sure!
Buddha bless to you & family brother.best move you all could have made for wellbeing & quality of life for you all.of course living there has its own unique issues but compared to u.k & how bad things are heading over the coming years its a no brainer for a young family wanting the best possible life without having to be privileged & wealthy. Happy healthy holiday & new year to you all 🙏🎅👌..
Thank you so much 🙏 We wish you a very happy new year! 😁
🐥🐐👍You have done very well. Good luck 👍
Thank you 😊🙏
Only my opinion your Thi will improve when it becomes your first language. As long as you speak English to family you will not progress as quickly as you want. The rest of your family need to embrace Thai as a first language ❤
We'll get there, there's no rush, we're here to stay 😊
Great little video. Hopefully be back in udon end of 2025 for good this time, the UK is killing me.
We wish you all the best! 🙏
Coffee followed you around like she is your pet, not a goat.❤❤
She's loving life on the farm! We'll definitely miss her!
hi Natt, have u considered raising broilers as well? from chicks to maturity abt 8-9 wks. .. just an idea for additional revenue..
My uncle is currently experimenting with that 🙏
Well said nat ya a good man down to earth no bulshit
Cheers! 🙏 Gotta say it how it is haha
Have you been called up to do your Thai military service yet, ??? have you thought about it??
All sorted! 😊🙏
Bloody hell!! A Thai man speaking British! Good grief i can't believe it! 😅
Hahaha, it seems to shock almost everyone 🤣
It certainly seems like the busyness has been taken out of life for you there as we all know western living is not just physically busy but it’s our minds that never gets a rest it’s always pressure off some sort in the uk and at the end off the day what’s it all for is it a big brag to keep up with the Jones’s then eventually die what this world needs is more true humanity and slow living just my thought for the day , Merry Christmas Nat and Camilla and kids 🎄
That's exactly it Margaret, you've hit the nail on the head there! Too much stress and pressure in the UK, life is for living and we owe it to our children to do just that! We didn't have kids so that we could be stuck in work 24/7 and never spend time with them. Thank you for watching and for your support! We hope you had a great Christmas and we wish you a very happy new year! 😊🙏
@@NativeFarang thank you my Christmas was pretty much rubbish tbh wind rain a fortune out of pocket and mental abuse from my son I just tell it as it is I’ve pulled the Xmas tree down cleaned my house lit candles for something to look at and watched a few slow living videos to calm the mind and going to do some yoga 🧘 so sorted hope you and the kids enjoyed your Xmas day roll on march to I get my washing out 😊
You're not fermenting the chicken food anymore ?
If you've watched our latest video you'll understand 😅 we've been a little busy with other plans! But the fermenting was going well!
@@NativeFarang 😆 yes i watched your last video after commenting, i wish you success in bkk 💵💵💵💰💰💰, i hope you will make enough money to come back to the farm life asap. I'm moving to the country side in 5 days with my Thai family, but i will keep my online job part time as I don't know how much money we can make with the farm in the future. Have a good day!
@@8971felix Thank you so much, that's the plan! We know what we need to do 😊 All the best with your farm, we're always here if you need to ask anything, we'll try our best to help 😅🙏
@@NativeFarangthank you! Yes we will surely need advices about chickens. Do you have an email address ?
@@8971felix We do, it's nativefarang@gmail.com 😊
ha, never had the first view on a video...
I think I got way too excited about that rofl
Haha love it!
was the move due to covid?
No, we only moved in May this year. The UK was just starting to get depressing, didn't spend a lot of time as a family and many other reasons 😅
@@NativeFarang ah! i see. nevertheless, i think what you’re doing now may have a huge trade off but i envy you. land, food, and family.
good luck brother!
@@omarlocke4351 Thank you!
