Yeah they both have a bit of an ego problem. Although with Vaush its a bit hard to tell how much of it is him coming across as an egotistical dick because of how he speaks what with the autism and how much of it is legit ego. Destiny however is every bit as egotistical as he seems best I can tell. I'm relatively new to both so the jury is STILL out on both but its not looking good for Destiny even if Vaush is a lil shitheel sometimes too. We stigmatise psychopathy and think of it in its most cartoonish and outlandish form, but psychopathy is much more common in society than we think and the vast majority of people with psychopathic tendencies aren't murdering people. Lotsa interesting research on this regarding its prevalence in sports teams, boardrooms etc. Where particular environments bring out the best in people with these tendencies as where it can be channeled (with the downside, particularly in sports people post-retirement, is the loss of the environment). Ie particular behaviors we wouldn't accept in regular society are praised in one particular arena. So I think the comment here regarding psychopathy may have merit

I’m still gonna watch vaush because despite my disagreements with him( since I am an open liberal, and not a socialist) my intuition tell me that his beliefs are legitimate. Just because they are inconsistent and hard to categories doesn’t necessarily mean he is lying( not that Destiny is making this argument but I have seen many people do this). On top of that he still holds interesting positions on mental health, life ,political action and co-ops and so on. I’m only going to unsubscribe if I do not like his content or I get very little out of it. The mental health video of both of these guys are one of the most underrated TH-cam videos as of yet. Because of this inconsistency at the core Vaush is not vegan as well. That's something I don't like about him. The point brought up by Destiny at 27:51 seems a bit dishonest, the clip right after Vaush said that after the charity, he hopes that people that are [on the fence] about him are more likely to speak with him now, not that they were "larger".
Is it? The way I understood it was that anybody of smaller or the same size as Vaush would likely be happy to work with him, while larger content creators would be less likely because there is less to gain out of that transaction. That's the only option that makes sense to me, because if anybody else was on the fence because of his politics or character, that charity stream would've done nothing to change it.

When he called this out he was told even in his conversation with Xanderhal that nobody was trying to get him reported, that when they were calling him a fascist and a Nazi that should be banned that it was poor "phraseology" and nobody wanted anything to happen from those reports. So he said the same thing in his chat as a tongue and cheek jab to point out that they wouldn't accept these arguments if it wasn't their community. And he was proven right. Nobody called these people out except Destiny and his community and those were actions that lead to him being unpartnered.

I’m Canadian and I would probably be left enough to be called a Nazi by Destiny. Some may think that is Hyperbolic, but those people should go back and watch Destiny’s debate (which had a sequal on Vaush’s channel) and see how he basically advocated for genocide for First Nations people for literally protesting about ongoing cultural genocide of their people. This was one debate where I really started to wake up and realize Destiny is very prone to bad takes when he’s not clear on the issue or facts, and will revert to “win at any cost” mode in order to avoid admitting he may be wrong about one of his lol ions or extremely hyperbolic reactions to something he doesn’t like. While I appreciate Destiny's rhetorical skills, I think it's undeniable that he has the personality of a contrarian. Back when I taught college students, every semester I always had one or two students like him. Intelligence + a deep hatred of conformity led to these students making interesting, but ultimately fruitless, arguments in their papers. If you accept the reality that Destiny's primary motivation is simply hating whichever movement is growing in popularity, then a lot of his takes make sense, such as his bizarre support for Citizen's United or his insistence that white people should be allowed to use the N-word.

Lotsa interesting research on this regarding its prevalence in sports teams, boardrooms etc. Where particular environments bring out the best in people with these tendencies as where it can be channeled (with the downside, particularly in sports people post-retirement, is the loss of the environment). This is my one big sticking point too.
Destiny should rather just stay off twitter entirely if he can't stay serious out there. I think I understand why he ends up just spewing BS (frustration etc) but I hope he realises that his troll tweets are impacting all his other work in a negative way.
That's why we shouldn't bully Destiny. He's being mortally neutral.
Except this ties into Vaush’s point and the last interaction they had about some philosophy trans person. Destiny kept saying anyone who lies or misleads online is subhuman garbage and extremely morally reprehensible. He claims to hate lying and people who spread misinformation (and seemingly defining anything he disagrees with, or small mistakes, as being deliberate and intentional lies)...but then thinks it’s funny when he gets called out for the exact same thing? And makes endless excuses as to why it’s ok when he does it and he’s not at all acting in bad faith ever. Not when he does the lying, or when he desperately rationalizes it after the fact when getting called out. It’s everyone else acting in bad faith.

I was watching his interview with Codemiko, and half of her community thought the guy was genuinely being an asshole, while the other half was trying to explain to those idiots that he was doing a bit. Whatever you think of Vaush, it's undeniable that Destiny's been obsessively reactionary against lefties lately. Like, his entire contribution to the Israel-Palestine discourse on Twitter has essentially been saying whatever triggers the lefties (to the point of calling charity for the PCRF "funding terrorism"). It started as healthy competition to Breadtube's bad ideas, but now it's stale and mega cringe.

i think destiny has become less idealistic and has concentrated more on the legitimacy of an argument. even though hasan seems to be a good guy - a lot of his thinking is super flawed and unrealistic and he doesnt substantiate his arguments. i like to think that destiny is just trying to strengthen the left by giving them better arguments to have and trying to bring the left to a more reasonable moderate, position.

Having a similar idea is perfectly fine and building on what other people have said is encouraged. I’m still gonna watch vaush because despite my disagreements with him( since I am an open liberal, and not a socialist) my intuition tell me that his beliefs are legitimate. Just because they are inconsistent and hard to categories doesn’t necessarily mean he is lying( not that Destiny is making this argument but I have seen many people do this). On top of that he still holds interesting positions on mental health, life ,political action and co-ops and so on. I’m only going to unsubscribe if I do not like his content or I get very little out of it. The mental health video of both of these guys are one of the most underrated TH-cam videos as of yet.
I personally think vaush is introspective about many things but not everything( like his internal logic, certain good faith criticisms from his fans and booksmarts) I think the same can be said about Destiny too btw but for different topics. I recently reduced my consumption of Destiny's content because I've gotten pretty uncomfortable with a lot of his behavior. I agree with almost everything you said but I feel like consistency isn't even part of the problem.
Both are human, they have to be inconsistent at points but Destiny is an unbearable dick about it. His anger and the way he approaches anyone on the left like they aren't even worthy of consideration or how he constantly weighs what they say against what some dumbfuck on twitter said, is just pathetically petty to me.

Because of this inconsistency at the core Vaush is not vegan as well. That's something I don't like about him. At least Destiny is consistent and wouldn't even mind the killing of a chimpanzee for pleasure (at least in terms of whether he thinks it would be ethically justifiable or not). The point brought up by Destiny at 27:51 seems a bit dishonest, the clip right after Vaush said that after the charity, he hopes that people that are [on the fence] about him are more likely to speak with him now, not that they were "larger".
Is it? The way I understood it was that anybody of smaller or the same size as Vaush would likely be happy to work with him, while larger content creators would be less likely because there is less to gain out of that transaction. That's the only option that makes sense to me, because if anybody else was on the fence because of his politics or character, that charity stream would've done nothing to change it.

That was after there were calls to action by Vaush's partner, mods and roommate for their community to go an report Destiny. When he called this out he was told even in his conversation with Xanderhal that nobody was trying to get him reported, that when they were calling him a fascist and a Nazi that should be banned that it was poor "phraseology" and nobody wanted anything to happen from those reports.
So he said the same thing in his chat as a tongue and cheek jab to point out that they wouldn't accept these arguments if it wasn't their community. And he was proven right. Nobody called these people out except Destiny and his community and those were actions that lead to him being unpartnered.

While in theory that's true, in practice a lot of stalinists, maoists, and tankies pose as socialists. Moreover, many of those wholesale socialists (rather than social democrats, market socialists, etc) will buy into those positions and be closer to those people than to reasonable left leaning people, so a ban on the people propagating cannibalistic genocide rhetoric isn't entirely that bad.

I’m Canadian and I would probably be left enough to be called a Nazi by Destiny. Some may think that is Hyperbolic, but those people should go back and watch Destiny’s debate (which had a sequal on Vaush’s channel) and see how he basically advocated for genocide for First Nations people for literally protesting about ongoing cultural genocide of their people. This was one debate where I really started to wake up and realize Destiny is very prone to bad takes when he’s not clear on the issue or facts, and will revert to “win at any cost” mode in order to avoid admitting he may be wrong about one of his lol ions or extremely hyperbolic reactions to something he doesn’t like. His treatment of the other guy in both those debates wasn’t just extremely bad faith, but he was factually wrong both times and kept calling everyone else “bad faith”. He is so zealous about winning and being the smartest in the room that he will borderline say or do anything to preserve his own ego.
The “treat nationalists like nazis” idea is pretty hyperbolic and could be pretty damaging. I’m surprised destiny holds to that position. I could understand fascists but there are a lot of nationalists that aren’t nazis. See how your argument doesnt work? those are only more moderate dogwhistles for hiding your powerlevel. authoritarians get the ban simple as

to be fair, Vaush seems to want the commentary of community infighting to stop. Like, that's what he's threatening to start banning is people that keep fueling the drama flames.

There’s pretty much no way Destiny gets anywhere near the legal standard of incitement (intended and likely to cause imminent lawless action) so a lawyer joke is fine.

While I appreciate Destiny's rhetorical skills, I think it's undeniable that he has the personality of a contrarian. Back when I taught college students, every semester I always had one or two students like him. Intelligence + a deep hatred of conformity led to these students making interesting, but ultimately fruitless, arguments in their papers. If you accept the reality that Destiny's primary motivation is simply hating whichever movement is growing in popularity, then a lot of his takes make sense, such as his bizarre support for Citizen's United or his insistence that white people should be allowed to use the N-word.
