Hello JB, this is right on point. I am from the east PoS area and it has brought back pleasant memories. Until the 80s PoS like every capital city used to be the hub of everything. It was vibrant and congested, but full of life. But sometime between the 80s/90s to the present, it has become a nuisance, for the lack of a better word.
Population growing, and with the wealth and expansion, the area between the hills east of EDR and let's say Woodbrook/StJames could not handle the expansion. That is why there were calls for decentralization out of PoS. There was no more room. Hence the rapid urbanization of central and the the EW corridor going to Grande. This a good thing. But with decentralization, the infrastructure that accompanied this decentralization was in adequate. But let's stay in PoS for now.
Like someone mentioned below, the diminished wealth of the city shows in the delapidated state. When the govt tried to institute the city taxes there was a revolt. So the consequences is a run down city. People in TT still think the govt swimming in money. The 1 to 10 % are the ones swimming money. They don't live in the city. They have stores there. But the best shopping areas are outside of the city. But You are correct about the street/road maintenance. Grass shooting out of the pavement is unacceptable. Although Frederick street looked relative clean, there was still too many little piles of garbage here and there on the street. Every government owned building should be repainted and always clean in the front. Trying to impose laws for maintenance on private owned buildings are a waste of time.
At one time Frederick street was the main of the city, not anymore , at least for now. The Avenue is the hub. Exclusive for dining, bar hopping and other entertainment. It is vibrant when the night come. One of the very few bright spots in the city. I have so much to say. This is all for now. Peace and Blessings.

There is a difference between watching a video and being there. I have learnt that lesson from all my travels. Videos and pictures never capture everything. Trinidad is still a beautiful country. There is so much you see and learn when you visit. Everytime I return to Trinidad I experienced new things. I have travelled a lot and left Trinidad decades ago but I still love my country. I have seen places 10 times worst so maybe that is why I think like this.

Just started looking at the video. I left decades ago and Frederick Street does look different. I used to work at the telephone company opposite the Town Hall. I will take your advice and look at the videos on my computer. Thanks for all your hard work. My question is? Don't the businesses and people pay property taxes to be used for the upkeep of pavements, etc. Why so much neglect? I noticed Greyfriars Church and the property next door are gone. I used to go to Sunday School there. You are right. I guess the Salvatori Building lot is still empty. It seems that Mr. Manning had the best plan for POS. Maybe too many of the rich business families have died or left. It is a shame that some parts of the city are not looking good. The government need to get hold of the situation. It amazes me when people come abroad they don't bitch about all the taxes that we have to pay because there is no alternatives. You can't eat your cake and have it too.

I am looking at your video at the moment, just starting about five minutes into it now. I did attend Saint Mary's College (CIC) from 1969 to 1973 which is the year that I left TnT for the USA and other places around this planet. You mentioned how slow things change in POS sometimes taking several years to do so. I used to know POS quite well as a young boy as I lived amd went to school on Pembroke Street for some years. But having left TnT almost fifty years ago, I recognize almost nothing of the place now, save for the 'DRAB, RUNDOWN' look of things, the overhead utility wires and the extreme;y narrow and congested sidewalks and streets most of which I walked on when I wore a younger man's clothes. I remember many of the street names as well. Lord Harris Square was like my front yard because we were dirt poor and we had no yard to speak of in the 'HOVEL' that I lived in during those years of extreme poverty. There were lots of stray dogs and homeless, crazy and alcoholic people who lived in the square. 'Bay Rum' was the alcohol poison of choice back in those days. to ths day I do not drink a DROP OF ALCOHOL. I have seen it destroy far too many individual's lives and ruin so many families because of alcohol addiction and family violence, abuse and neglect. More to follow as I follow your walk through POS. 🤗🥴

Uptown would be north of Park Street up to the Savannah and going as far west as Cipriani Blvd, then north of the cemetery to the Savannah and to the hospital and Holy Faith Convent to the east. Downtown would be south of Park Street to the waterfront. The majority of the uptown and downtown areas are businesses.

Luv the videos, can’t tell u what to say on your channel but your assessment of POS in comparison to other cities I’ve been to is way off,in major cities in the US where I live there are parts that are no way in comparison to POS..have u ever been to Newark New Jersey or Camden New Jersey??just last week I went to Baltimore and we were in the car driving through speaking on how no were in Trinidad will u ever see that level of decay, abandoned houses, burnt abandoned buildings heaps of trash, vagrants and crack heads not even in East POS...George st Nelson st Piccadilly st,John John etc is paradise compared to these places..Minus the vagrants and pissy smells like in ALL cities POS is super clean as far as I know and seen with my own eyes🤷🏽

Ac1, thanks for your input. What is way off? That Port of Spain should do a better job of caring for her streets or that there are other capitals in first world nations that do keep their city streets in good repair? Not sure how either one is wrong. Just because you may see some part of a city elsewhere in a bad way it does not discredit a nation that wants to sell tourism to be in this way. This country can do better and it is a representation of its people. So when I compare to do better I think of good examples... why would I use bad examples as a comparison? Have you seen my other videos about Port of Spain? For instance: th-cam.com/video/NTREPf7T5G8/w-d-xo.html that is here and now.

@@JBsManCave I’ve seen all the videos u have of POS actually lol loved most of them..let’s get this clear Trinidad is not a first world country...JB I’ve walked through Manhattan and seen a bumb/vagrant literally taking a dump on a side street..u have been to the US you have been to Europe so I don’t know what you’re highlighting and what’s the purpose?? What I will say with the amount of money passed through the country yes we could’ve done better but who are we comparing to??you’re highlighting the negatives of the city so I was just highlighting their negatives as cities in a first world country and it’s worst...our CBD looks great and can match the CBD’s of other cities in the US..to be honest I’ve heard no other ppl other than Trinidadians say things like these about Trinidad..ive been to many places and of course the first thing comes to mind is Trinidad and my comparisons..also who said Trinidad sells tourism!!that’s a heavily industrialized country that just so happen to be in the Caribbean and has a tourism sector just like every other country, but let’s be real Trinidad never focused on that at least in the way of other Caribbean islands...I stand on what I said as a person who has traveled to many places POS is a clean city...but let’s agree to disagree

Ac1, thanks for your explanation. The purpose of JB's Man Cave is to show the raw and reality. You will notice that I say what it is and what is not as I am not selling a tourist video. There are many out there that do that (sell tourism or themselves) so I am being unique. I like to keep things real and look for the better. th-cam.com/video/gbnZdCnDtVM/w-d-xo.html
