Funny intro. I have 7 Xmaxxes and 5 XRTs and have never had issues besides gears and servos. In fact my 2015 V1 Xmaxx still has the plastic spur and original servo. Never lost an ESC on any of them.
I am basically an old git. As I see it, I have 2 options. First option is.....Fixodent, grey strappy up trainers, tea dances, and smelling funny in post office queues. Second option....Speed runs and bashing. Decisions, decisions.😮
Mate, either you’re mental or we have extremely different definitions of fun. I have a vxl stampede 2wd and briefly owned a hoss before converting it to a rustler 4x4 chassis (direct fit, you can even keep the same body) and I find this far more fun than the 2wd. The 2wd vxl is a one trick pony. It wheelies very well, but is more or less shit at literally everything else. It’s a decent first RC especially if you’re looking for something very easy to wheelie, but for serious off road speeds you need something lcg for stability. Now there are some things that can be done very cheaply to improve this truck as it is. 1) diff fluid. Factory is comes with 500k fluid. Consider replacing that with 1M fluid. It’ll make the truck a fair bit more wheelie happy. While you’re at it you might want to go ahead and install 6781 as a precaution. Plastic case can get a bit melty. 2) consider gearing up. Since it’s the limited to 3s it can be a bit lazy on 2s. I have a maxx heat sink and good aluminum fan on mine running 4s and I’ve only dropped to a 13t pinion. Back when I had the same motor in a big rock 3s I ran it with a 16-17t pinion on 3s. 15t on the hoss because I wanted to be close to stock and was mixing 3s and 4s use. Now that I’m fully 4s I’m on a 13t, and I think stock for the stampede on 3s is 14t. Very long winded way of saying the motor has more in it than it may seem.
But that's why I liked the stampede it was just a bit silly, not as serious and grown up as this version. Just my opinion i dont expect people to agree with me all the time lol.
@@beyondRC totally get it. I mean I like my stampede 2wd well enough, but I paid $100 used, and wouldn’t really consider 3s viable. Tons of fun on 2s though. Couldn’t dream of it being the only RC I took out for a session though. If I have to leave one behind it would definitely be the 2wd pede. I like low slung land missiles carving the off road at 45+.
@@dylanwhite6539 because its less crazy and less chaotic haha. The VXL 2wd was as you say constantly on its back wheels and sometimes an uncontrollable beast. which made it fun ha ha!! I'm not saying the new one isn't good because its a solid truck im simply saying I didn't find it as fun to drive as it is too sensible. Just my thoughts
While I don’t whole heartedly disagree with the idea that traxxas electronics suck, it’s not entirely fair to say you HAVE to replaced everything. With the Xmaxx/xrt these are my thoughts. Servo: replace if you can with a NON traxxas servo. If that’s too expensive, simply upgrade the gears inside the 2085 servo so metal. Traxxas is mental for not giving us metal gears in the first place, but the MG upgrade will keep the 2085 running for a while, hopefully long enough to budget in the full upgrade. Radio: personal preference. If you want to run HV servos then it is necessary. The range is definitely not the best, but it’s also not the worst rtr radio either. They absolutely should update it though. ESC: upgrade the fan to any 35mm aluminum fan and it will probably last you a very long time. Had one for over 3 years and it never stoped working. Left my possession for other reasons. Motor: it’s admittedly piss poor for a $1000 RC truck. Out of the box if you install a GPM metal front cap it should significantly extent the life, and it’s only $20. My first one even without any modifications lasted nearly 3 years. However my brand new xrt motor got warrantied after a month and also the replacement Xmaxx motor I paid for died within a year. I’d say they’ve gone down in quality vs the older generation ones. I’ve also heard that metal motor mounts might help the issue, but never tested that myself. You also want much better fans. Sadly fans seem to be a necessary upgrade regardless of brand. Arrmas fans can be okay I guess but they’re not much better than traxxas fans. As for the other cars, I think this largely remains the same. Their smaller motors are all better than the Xmaxx motor. Servos are crap, and you can get better servos for less than $50 so no point in bothering with metal gear upgrades there. If I ran traxxas I wouldn’t allow a plastic gear in anything aside from maybe the TRX4m
I agree. The steel gear upgrade comes with stiffer servo saver which improves the steering accuracy and speed to a decent and tolerable level on 6v. On 7.5v that servo is actually good. i have a castle mm8s esc and 1721/1260kv motor system in my xrt now. Buying a faster or stronger servo is not even a thought anymore. The stock vxl8s and motor were decent but only at or near stock gearing. Im Still running stock radio tho.
@@beyondRC I assure you it’s got more to do with the servo saver and gears inside the servo rather than the servo itself. It is still sub par I would say, but you can make it adequate for $40 rather than spend $120+ on an upgraded servo.
@beyondRC and no matter what the haters say most traxxas cars come nearly bullet proof if you aren't a KT fan boy and jumping 50 feet into a nose dive. The only problems I have ever had with them is mostly the 6s electronics....they really need to update that esc to something a lot better.
Love em or hate em, i can break anything on my slash go to local shop spend few quid on stock or rpm upgrades. Dont need to wait for parts, thats what I like most.
And sometimes that advertised speed with optional gears sold separately that they display, Traxxas doesn’t even offer the optional gears required so a person has to find one from a different brand anyway! And what’s with the plastic spur gear after all these centuries with a slipper clutch in there, unnecessary!
I reckon the Rival MT10 would be better value for money and it's bullet proof without paying the daft prices Traxxas ask. No need to buy a seperate charger either!!
I can not thank you enough for saying one of your favorite companies, very refreshing to see someone say that. As trivial as it sounds I make a comment about liking traxxas ya get slammed, like that one you tuber who likes to put em (traxxas) on their page [hint starts with a T] just to bash the trap out of them... seeing his cheap ass merchandise for a premium, and has the balls to talk about overpriced 😂 great video again brother!!!

Yep i know all about him and i have never understood the unnecessary hate when he actually owns a good handful of traxxas vehicles so must see something good in them. We dont see eye to eye unfortunately as one of us is super genuine and the other a snake willing to do whatever it takes to try and be successful whilst bringing down whoever and whatever along the way to try and better himself. Not many remember but when he was quite small he purposely caused controversy with Kev Talbot to try and get more views and was a self confessed biggest hater of talbot (nothing to be proud of). The guy just cant shut his mouth and keep the negative stuff at bay. Instead plays the "Hero act" to try and prove hes the only honest person around. What an idiot haha! Cheers Jeremy
I wish all of them would stop with the preload spacers and just give us metal, more adjustable shocks right out of the box. Good video, think I’d pass on this truck. Keep em coming 👍🏻
I would say it is one of the best options in 1:10 Monster Trucks. Try to find a real MT with this ground clearance. Most Cars out there arent MTs cause they have straight chassis like arma or tekno. Other ones wont fit 1:10 scale, like MT410 V1 or Maxx. The only competitors i would say, are Quantum2 MT and Rival MT10.
With all my respect to MJX, MJX 10428 against the Traxxas Stampede is the mouse's head against the lion's tail. Or in other words, the best that MJX can do against a Traxxas access range. Personally, I stay in the middle and prefer a Team Associated MT10, Team Magic E5 or a Maverick Quantum 2. They are brands with more experience and more refined products than MJX and a better price value than Traxxas in this range.
I agree and something like the MT10 will be enough for anyone. Traxxas have priced this out of reach for a lot of people who will favour the cheaper options. Its certainly sitting in a very strange place in the market for what it offers.
In my experience Traxxas has better electronics than arrma/losi. My xmaxx still on stock esc and motor. My lmt my infraction and my notorious have all had to get new esc at the minimum. Some needed servos
I bought this fory son and it overheats and shuts down before the battery is even half dead. Traxxas tech said 3s is only for speed and should use 2s. Wtf. I just went out and got an arrma kraton 4s for less money it is way better than traxxas. Zero issues, takes a beating. Super fun. It is sad because the stampede was an important gift for him but doesn't work.
@@beyondRC I very bias towards it my friend bought a big rock 3s the same time as me and that thing has spent more time being repaired than driven Arrma tough my arse.
@@steviefpv I agree. I’m slowly moving away from arrma myself. Mostly due to lack of availability of new models and expensive/lack of spares. That’s one thing traxxas does excel in the spares department which no one can deny. 👍
My dad owns an e-revo 1/16 vxl that he bought back in 2012, it's been 12 years and that thing drives like a charm, mostly ran on 4s (overvolted obviously) and it never burnt the esc or the motor aside from getting warm (never even shut down either). The only electronic that broke, was 2 years ago, the servo. Which is known for dying bcs of a capacitor. Only broke 2 front A-arms so far.. After buying front rpm A-arms, it's a tank. I guess traxxas has lost it's touch over the years. Nice video btw!
You refer to hoss several times as you make it sound as if the stampede is what was made of hoss Problem is the old stampede 4wd had been around since the 90s Then hoss came out They decided to utilize some of the hoss things to make it better like the clip less body’s Different tires ect However the x maxx is a absolutely beast To make it tough you only need a few things One is captured pins or lundsfords Outdrive savers (they’re a small round aluminum part that keeps the outdrive from spreading ) 10 th scale servo (I bought a 90 power hobby and 6 buck adapter traxxas sells ) lastly a max 6 is plenty enough power If you do that from new it will be nearly one of the best trucks So 1300-1500 on a large scale rc Base that with any other 5 th scale and you ire on point price wise and you still have crappy spectrum electronics Anyone who’s been into this hobby knows all rtr electronics are trash The options are buy kits and supply your own electronics Or buy used and try that way
Hi Ricky, interesting review 🤔. I've got an old shape stampede 4x4 vxl, and I love it. It takes alot of bashing and still comes back for more. On 3s it's a beast. The new one looks like a watered down version of the hoss. I think while I can still get parts for mine. I will be running old school.😊
I have this and a Granite 3s…Granite is faster but less stable and breaks more to be honest..this is 100 bucks more but actually worth it..I take this over that Granite any day…actually
I have had no trouble with taxes. I have been with them over 20 years. i never have to change anything. things work great. I have had a couple day one things. and i still have them. I had day one 8 s x-Maxx have had day one atom. plus i have had several e-maxx trucks. they have always been awesome. people will complain about anything if it does not blow a house a way. does not have the speed of an f1 car. or the traction of a tank. they either blow stuff up with to many cells, ram it in to a building fly it over a 2 story home, drop it 120 feet from the air see if the shocks hold up. or smash in to rocks to see if it will break. as well as other things if i did all that to my r/cs i have huge junk pile of stuff that i would be trying to fix. and bitch because it did not last. you want the real truth. if people actually drove the r/cs for the way they were intended then people would have fun. I only up grade the parts that break more then 3 times. then i wait to see if anything breaks next. unlike most of you d/as who think they should be indestructible. nothing if fool proof or idiot proof or d/a proof. so drive it the WAY IT WAS MADE FOR.. I still have my 8 s X-maxx i still have my trx4 4x4 camo body and truck. runs great no issues.. even did the lift kit. i have a trx6 6x6 that i got my late wife. she drove it every where. no issues. every thing i have r/c has had no issues. so i do not under stand why so many d/as out there say smack about stuff they ruin. so man up people. most of us know you break it just to whine .
i think this is the best location, and is where i would choose to be, as it was designed for ripping around on dirt, not on concrete or a track. i say the brand only matters when it negatively affects the durability, or is outdated and cheap looking, like Tamiya. that is a hot take but 80% of tamiya models are incredibly expensive for cheap and crappy brushed motors and phiilipshead screws, all plastic gears, and its still 400$. Tamiya is taking the piss
The problem I have with traxxas isn’t the price tags (which are to high) it’s their bully legal action past record that just doesn’t set right with me. I know a guy that got his website shut down because of incorrect wording…. What a bunch of twats!! The only thing I can give them as a positive is parts availability. Anyway you always do a good job on these videos!! 👍
don't really get this truck and where it sits in the market. The Quantum 2flux is 200 cheaper! Also if you want better quality and durability the Corally Sketer you can buy for under 350 which runs on 3 and 4s. I get Traxxas is a premium brand but it can't work in isolation, it still has to compete. As I said at 450 quid it just doesn't stack up for me. I love our Sketer and I can't see any reason why I would gravitate towards this.
fully agree with you. Its one of the most expensive 1/10 out there and doesn't offer as much as something like a sketer with its 1/8 components. What you are paying for with this is the name IMO. The biggest advantage traxxas has over competitors is spares availability.
You know too much metal and metal upgrade parts are actually worse? Metal bends, is more expensive and in a crash the energy is sent to the next weakest part. Plastic is cheaper and is flexible 😉
@@beyondRC yeah in strategic places it's a good thing.. Not saying aluminum arms are good.. But an aluminum chassis and steel drive shafts would be sweet

Funny intro. I have 7 Xmaxxes and 5 XRTs and have never had issues besides gears and servos. In fact my 2015 V1 Xmaxx still has the plastic spur and original servo. Never lost an ESC on any of them.
sure
It definitely does,2wd off road outside of a slash,nah,4wd way better, traxxas esc eeehhh, you can have them
But that's why I liked the stampede it was just a bit silly, not as serious and grown up as this version.
@@beyondRC I think what I was trying to say it’s yes they’re different, but I don’t see how the new stampede is “less fun”
Just my findings once again. The Stock ESC in my Xmaxx didn't last very long at all on stock gearing. Maybe just bad luck. Servo is 100% terrible IMO
Hobao tt 2.0. Can't believe they didn't send you one. Looks good.
Not heard anything from Hobao
Great video as always. Traxxas makes some of my favorite rcs but i do hate their prices. Either way the Stampede is a kick ass truck and tuff as hell!
for sure Parts for Traxxas are so much easier to buy/find compared to anything horizon especially here in the UK
@beyondRC and no matter what the haters say most traxxas cars come nearly bullet proof if you aren't a KT fan boy and jumping 50 feet into a nose dive. The only problems I have ever had with them is mostly the 6s electronics....they really need to update that esc to something a lot better.
@@Nerm78 agreed!
Love em or hate em, i can break anything on my slash go to local shop spend few quid on stock or rpm upgrades. Dont need to wait for parts, thats what I like most.
This is it
And sometimes that advertised speed with optional gears sold separately that they display, Traxxas doesn’t even offer the optional gears required so a person has to find one from a different brand anyway! And what’s with the plastic spur gear after all these centuries with a slipper clutch in there, unnecessary!
This one does have a center diff and steel gears
It’s odd they used to give you a speed pinion in the back package but not anymore
Would you buy it over the Hoss or Maxx?
It’s identical to the hoss except for the hd parts the stampede is an upgrade over the hoss
correct. This is an upgraded hoss.
I reckon the Rival MT10 would be better value for money and it's bullet proof without paying the daft prices Traxxas ask. No need to buy a seperate charger either!!
True mate both solid options. The MT10 might even be a bit more fun too
I can not thank you enough for saying one of your favorite companies, very refreshing to see someone say that. As trivial as it sounds I make a comment about liking traxxas ya get slammed, like that one you tuber who likes to put em (traxxas) on their page [hint starts with a T] just to bash the trap out of them... seeing his cheap ass merchandise for a premium, and has the balls to talk about overpriced 😂 great video again brother!!!
haha they are and always have been. Yep i know all about him and i have never understood the unnecessary hate when he actually owns a good handful of traxxas vehicles so must see something good in them. He is a major hypocrite and does whatever it takes to get views. I see through him a long time ago and i wish others would see it too.
@@beyondRC I do remember that little spat!!! You definitely hit the old nail square on the head there!!!
I wish all of them would stop with the preload spacers and just give us metal, more adjustable shocks right out of the box. Good video, think I’d pass on this truck. Keep em coming 👍🏻
For this price I agree
400 dollars, plastic axles, nuff said.
If you want a good traxxas, get a chassis, get wheels, and add RPM and GPM parts and choose your electronics.
The driveshafts are the maxx shafts. It u break them its youre own fault😅. I got this one about 1 week and it takes everything.
It also has centre diff, qnd everything metal geared
In my experience Traxxas has better electronics than arrma/losi. My xmaxx still on stock esc and motor. My lmt my infraction and my notorious have all had to get new esc at the minimum. Some needed servos
I CANT AGREE spectrum is alot better then overpriced trx crap
I bought this fory son and it overheats and shuts down before the battery is even half dead. Traxxas tech said 3s is only for speed and should use 2s. Wtf. I just went out and got an arrma kraton 4s for less money it is way better than traxxas. Zero issues, takes a beating. Super fun. It is sad because the stampede was an important gift for him but doesn't work.
To be fair its not bad but the ultimate killer to it is the Tekno MT410 2.0
Best rc ever!!!!
Everybody calls this a rebranded Hoss but the Hoss was just an updated stampede...
The only issue with this truck is it’s not a team associated Mt10
Thats a great truck!
put 6s system in it
My dad owns an e-revo 1/16 vxl that he bought back in 2012, it's been 12 years and that thing drives like a charm, mostly ran on 4s (overvolted obviously) and it never burnt the esc or the motor aside from getting warm (never even shut down either). The only electronic that broke, was 2 years ago, the servo. Which is known for dying bcs of a capacitor. Only broke 2 front A-arms so far.. After buying front rpm A-arms, it's a tank. I guess traxxas has lost it's touch over the years. Nice video btw!
I love my mini erevo does standing backflips
@@ThomasManiscalco-cb9fl Heck yeah, how long have you owned it for?
@@pantinhas7930 4 yrs
It’s different… it goes to 11 😉
Seems like a pretty capable rig but all their trucks look the same to me.
You refer to hoss several times as you make it sound as if the stampede is what was made of hoss
Problem is the old stampede 4wd had been around since the 90s
Then hoss came out
They decided to utilize some of the hoss things to make it better like the clip less body’s
Different tires ect
However the x maxx is a absolutely beast
To make it tough you only need a few things
One is captured pins or lundsfords
Outdrive savers (they’re a small round aluminum part that keeps the outdrive from spreading ) 10 th scale servo (I bought a 90 power hobby and 6 buck adapter traxxas sells ) lastly a max 6 is plenty enough power
If you do that from new it will be nearly one of the best trucks
So 1300-1500 on a large scale rc
Base that with any other 5 th scale and you ire on point price wise and you still have crappy spectrum electronics
Anyone who’s been into this hobby knows all rtr electronics are trash
The options are buy kits and supply your own electronics
Or buy used and try that way
Hi Ricky, interesting review 🤔. I've got an old shape stampede 4x4 vxl, and I love it. It takes alot of bashing and still comes back for more. On 3s it's a beast. The new one looks like a watered down version of the hoss. I think while I can still get parts for mine. I will be running old school.😊
The new one has mostly interchangeable parts with the og and the new stamped is a more durable version of the hoss
Arrma are better at this sort of thing by a long way. I know I'm a ARRMA fan boy, but it's true.
I have this and a Granite 3s…Granite is faster but less stable and breaks more to be honest..this is 100 bucks more but actually worth it..I take this over that Granite any day…actually
The old vxl stampedes are better they are faster and they look better you can actually change the bodies and they are more customizable
It’s literally just a hoss now 💀
an upgraded hoss ;)
i think this is the best location, and is where i would choose to be, as it was designed for ripping around on dirt, not on concrete or a track. i say the brand only matters when it negatively affects the durability, or is outdated and cheap looking, like Tamiya. that is a hot take but 80% of tamiya models are incredibly expensive for cheap and crappy brushed motors and phiilipshead screws, all plastic gears, and its still 400$.
Much appreciated thanks Nathan
don't really get this truck and where it sits in the market.
Heavy duty, plastic
You know too much metal and metal upgrade parts are actually worse? Metal bends, is more expensive and in a crash the energy is sent to the next weakest part. Plastic is cheaper and is flexible 😉
@@beyondRC yeah in strategic places it's a good thing.. Not saying aluminum arms are good.. But an aluminum chassis and steel drive shafts would be sweet
Plastic is good if they use good plastic like peek or peak
"60 *Traxxas* miles per hour" is not "60 miles per hour"
2:26 "how cool does this truck look?"
No offence, but Traxxas paint schemes are way too toy like for me. Just give us some solid colors and maybe some stripes.
Instead it looks like a rainbow unicorn vomited a bad tribal tattoo on the body shell.
Traxxas need to hire better body designers. The paint schemes are just obnoxious to me.
think it comes down to personal opinion. I have always liked their bodies but again that's just my opinion.
Nearly twice the price of a Maverick Quantum flux........................Total bargain !!
Arguably twice the truck 😉 the maverick is good but quality wise this just takes it. Is it worth the double.. not sure 🤔
Nooooo one of your favourite brands!! I cannot believe you said that. Edit video
I have always liked the brand even though I dont agree with some of their practices they make a quality product..
@@beyondRC hahaha nice recovery Rick.. Love it.. Agree with you 100%
