Ever since seeing this movie way back in the 80's I knew I wanted to go OTR in a big rig someday. Finally did it for a year a couple years ago. Checked off the bucket list.

Definitely one of the best movies of all time, I can't get enough of this film. I could watch it over and over. It's true that Kurt Russell's character wasn't the hero at all, in fact, he did little to nothing in the film, he just fumbled around and got lucky except for the very end when he kills Lo-Pan - the ONLY good thing he did, which is what makes this film so awesome. It's his courage, that's what stands out, that's what they all admired, nothing fazed him (except maybe that floating head). This film has a charm that can never be replicated...I miss 80's film, really. Thanks for making a video on this one, Minty.

"To the Army and the Navy, and the battles they have won. To the American colors, the colors that never run. May the wings of Liberty never lose a feather."
This is one of my favorite movies. All of the cast were fabulous and fit their characters perfectly, it's completely unique, and just a fun ride from beginning to end. I always hoped there would be a sequel that perhaps dug deeper into the story because there was so much going on and a lot of it had the potential for some real depth.. between the clans that were fighting each other, the old guy who was obviously more than the junk dealer he was pretending to be, all of the creatures, and the elemental guardians.. just a ton of avenues to explore.
Legend has it that this could have been the sequel to Buckaroo Banzai but the whole idea somehow got derailed and became this different movie. Not sure of any details, just something I read.
In the DVD commentary Russell and Carpenter talk about this. Specifically the fact that Burton isn't the main character and how dangerous it was for Russell to take a role where he looked so inept.

I've always thought the film's cold open scene to be one of the best cold opens in any film. It's quiet but you can feel the tension and the low lighting and camera angles only add to the feeling. Then, as the scene progresses and Egg uses magic, it lets you now that you are in for a strange and fantastic ride. I agree. When he said Jack Burton wasn't the real hero of the movie, I immediately thought of Egg Shen. They could have done none of that stuff without his help.
I watched this for the first time in 2019, what a roller-coaster ride of a movie. So much fun, so daring, so ridiculous in the best way. The Rock remake will absolutely ruined this classic.
Nah...the classic will always be there, it's not like ol' Duane's destroying all copies of it. Just do what I do, and decide not to support such shenaniganery.
having a good knife also helps...and a seven demon bag tends to be really handy if you know how to use it...also a good tailor...going on a quest requires that you be properly dressed for such events that might leap out from dark corners or untamed and vengeful shrubbery
I would probably say that this is one of my favorite movies of all time. It was one of the first movies of any type of sci-fi that I've watched. I like all the action pack and comedy that this movie host.
Saw this when it was first released. It was me, my two friends and another group of 4 people in a huge, otherwise empty theatre. We laughed our heads off and recommended the film to everyone we knew.
Too young For me, we had the Mortal Kombat movie, techno andnindustiral were new ro us, two very bewitiful sister and their friend came with us andbwe had the place to oirselves and had a BLAST And then, stayed cuz it filled all tje way up for the next showing Itneas a movie experience I have yet to match
Man I love both The Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China Awesome movies. And John Carpenter is a multi talented Director does his own music for his music and some of the best music of for his movies Halloween etc. Great vid Minty I respect the hard work you put into your videos Sir
This is hands-down one of my all time faves. I actually didn’t know some of these facts as well - good on you. Plus, your delivery was really natural on this one and it made a big difference. You can tell you are very familiar with this film.
@Daniel Appleton Actually, now that you make me think of it, "The Forbidden Kingdom" (with Jackie Chan and Jet Li) reminds me a lot of Big Trouble in Little China...
OMG! Thank you Minty for doing this. Love Love this movie. You are right Minty for telling DWAYNE JOHNSON "hands off this movie" . So sick of him doing remakes and messing them up.
I thought #9 was obvious. It's a running joke throughout the movie that Jack Burton is a big talker, but it's his buddy who manages to get the most done, except for the bit with the knife at the end. You completely surprised me with #1. I had no idea it was originally supposed to be a western.
having Kurt Russell cast as the big hero was part of the humor... he talks like a big John Wayne action hero type but is so far out of his depth. I'm not surprised that this point of humor is lost on some... Having Egg talk defend Jack in the open sense made it even more funny., No, Big trouble was legitimately more funny that Golden Child.
@@chrismortimer4068 big trouble finding its rabid audience and cult status after (if not instantly) being panned by critics on initial release proves just how amazing this movie is to so many...one of my personal favorites and quoted from on a regular basis
I love Escape from LA! It actually made me want to go back and watch Escape from New York. It really makes me sad when people make fun of other movies, as sometimes most of those movies lead people to watch others that came before it
Escape from LA was a tragic vanity project and cash grab, not art Theres a serious quality difference between movies before the 1980s and 90s and what came after 300 was a cultural phenomenom and hollywood hates men so theyve vowed to make all movies ONLY for them and shame everyone else
Saw this for the first time last week on my birthday, ordered a bunch of Chinese food for the house. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to show me the film for the first time. I loved it naturally.
IMO, a sequel to this movie would actually be pretty easy to do. In the first film it's established that Lo Pan must find a woman with green eyes and marry her in order to appease Ching Dai, the God of the East. However, in order to appease Emperor Qin Shi Huang, who cursed Lo Pan to begin with, he must then sacrifice her. In the first movie Lo Pan succeeded in marrying one of the two women he captured and regained his mortal form, but then he was killed by Jack Burton before he could complete the ceremony by sacrificing the other one. That should mean there is a very annoyed and potentially vengeful spirit of Qin Shi Huang out there. Fast forward to present day when Wang Chi and Miao Yin are married and have a daughter... with green eyes.. you can kind of see where this is going. Instead of going after Miao Yin for a second time, agents of Qin Shi Huang could go after their daughter. This is where Dwayne Johnson could play into the story, because he could just be another every man who works around Chinatown and ends up getting dragged into the conflict. I would maybe establish that Wang Chi still owns his restaurant and Dwayne Johnson's character enjoys eating there and occasionally flirts with the hostess who happens to be Wang Chi's daughter. Then she gets captured by Chinese demon sorcerers and off he goes to try and rescue her. Then of course you save Kurt Russell for the end of the film. Perhaps Jack Burton was also targeted and held captive by Qin Shi Huang and when they rescue him he helps them rescue Wang Chi's daughter. And she of course calls him "Uncle Jack" because he's practically family. I like this idea a lot more than simply rebooting a classic.
This is an excellent idea, unfortunately they don't have people with your mindset in the movie industry, that's why we get shit like the Ghostbusters reboot.
Im 44 this month ,dosnt bother me to say it,... As i dont feel it BUT SERIOUSLY I HAVE LOVED "BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, since i first saw it... The film.is very very much still one of my very favs.
The first time my oldest said "I don't get it", she was introduced to the retort of "You were not put upon this earth to 'get it', Mr. Burton.", a tradition that carried on to her younger brothers, the two oldest often beating me to the punch on delivering the line. Of course, all three were introduced to the movie as well, but still say that line to this day, even in high school. Doubt the remake will have that sort of quotable cultural staying power.
*what's more troubling is that given the current thinking (or lack of) of hollywood how many gender swaps/transitions or reassignments do you think will be required for this remake will be green lit?*
Kudos on yet another amazing video, Minty, I always drop everything to watch your latest uploads... Seeing Kim Cattrall has reminded me of another little gem from the 80's you could do for us "Mannequin" 👍😉

He’d never seen Maximum Overdrive either! The man was seriously deprived!! Peace out Minty and thanks for a great video!
The name's Express, Porkchop Express. One of the main reasons BTiLC is better than The Golden Child is that Russell's deadpan delivery of the 80's macho lines are believable, that he is a normal 80's guy experiencing some strange shit first hand. TGC on the other hand, is just Eddie Murphy phoning in a lackluster delivery of cliche' lines and is just cringe inducing on so many levels.
Thanks. I was wondering if anyone else was going to point out the full name of Jack's truck. Minty really needs to get someone help with production of his videos, especially for fact checking and word pronunciation.

Classic Film. Watched it about 10 times and will watch again
One of my favorite John Carpenter movies probably second only to The Thing.
Diane S 100% agree.
Saw this when it was first released. It was me, my two friends and another group of 4 people in a huge, otherwise empty theatre. We laughed our heads off and recommended the film to everyone we knew.
Too young
For me, we had the Mortal Kombat movie, techno andnindustiral were new ro us, two very bewitiful sister and their friend came with us andbwe had the place to oirselves and had a BLAST
And then, stayed cuz it filled all tje way up for the next showing
Itneas a movie experience I have yet to match
Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favorites from the 80's :)
Big trouble in little china is the greatest movie ever made!
Man I love both The Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China Awesome movies. And John Carpenter is a multi talented Director does his own music for his music and some of the best music of for his movies Halloween etc. Great vid Minty I respect the hard work you put into your videos Sir
"It's all in the reflexes."
This is hands-down one of my all time faves. I actually didn’t know some of these facts as well - good on you. Plus, your delivery was really natural on this one and it made a big difference. You can tell you are very familiar with this film.
Lo Pan? Which Lo Pan? Lil old basket case on wheels or the 10ft tall road block?
daniel zuk you're right, updated

@Daniel Appleton Actually, now that you make me think of it, "The Forbidden Kingdom" (with Jackie Chan and Jet Li) reminds me a lot of Big Trouble in Little China...

My favorite movie of all time and I'm convinced I'm a trucker now because of Jack Burton. ¡Vive Pork Chop Express!
An absolute gem. Comes from a time where movies didn't have to do anything other than be fun.
OMG! Thank you Minty for doing this. Love Love this movie. You are right Minty for telling DWAYNE JOHNSON "hands off this movie" . So sick of him doing remakes and messing them up.
Loved this as a kid.
And I still do 🤘😊🤘

I used to watch this almost every day when I was young in late 80s. One of my favorites

Shaddup, Mr. Burton!!

After tapping your favourite skull against a wall.
I thought #9 was obvious. It's a running joke throughout the movie that Jack Burton is a big talker, but it's his buddy who manages to get the most done, except for the bit with the knife at the end.
You completely surprised me with #1. I had no idea it was originally supposed to be a western.
33yrs later-STILL lookin' for that"six-demon bag", EGG-SHIN! CHEERS!
Freaking love this flick....
I actually saw this about 3 weeks ago, I own the DVD. Lol
watch it with commentary next....well worth it for the laughing alone

Dude..... it's an amazing 80s film!!! Its up their with lost boys!
Been one of my favorite movies since '88. Thanks for the info!
having Kurt Russell cast as the big hero was part of the humor... he talks like a big John Wayne action hero type but is so far out of his depth. I'm not surprised that this point of humor is lost on some... Having Egg talk defend Jack in the open sense made it even more funny., No, Big trouble was legitimately more funny that Golden Child.
The white man always seems to be the best marketable to white People 🤔
no doubt watched both...Big Trouble still finds room within my brain to make itself known frequently
I think jack burton was kinda a character for orientals to have a little chuckle at!

It really makes me sad when people make fun of other movies, as sometimes most of those movies lead people to watch others that came before it
Escape from LA was a tragic vanity project and cash grab, not art
Theres a serious quality difference between movies before the 1980s and 90s and what came after
300 was a cultural phenomenom and hollywood hates men so theyve vowed to make all movies ONLY for them and shame everyone else
Saw this for the first time last week on my birthday, ordered a bunch of Chinese food for the house. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to show me the film for the first time. I loved it naturally.
Hahaha nice
I love the fact that the film is done from the viewpoint of the sidekick rather than the actual hero. Absolutely love this film ❤
I like this idea. I like it a lot.
That’s actually a pretty good idea 👍🏼
I agree, that could work, a completely new storyline working off the original.
This is an excellent idea, unfortunately they don't have people with your mindset in the movie industry, that's why we get shit like the Ghostbusters reboot.
Think Dwane Johnson should stick to working in a dinner tbh. He's just shite.
Damn right its a good movie.
Probably the most quoted movie I know (after Ghostbusters). Or at least in the top 5.

Scott Mantooth 😑
That is just A+ parenting right there. It sounds like you are raising some awesome kids. 🙂

Liu Kang too, although his look changed slightly after MK1. He was mostly based on Wang Chi. They even used his flying kick from the movie.
IIRC Liu Kang was also inspired by Bruce Lee

I must have been REALLY inspired to go watch this movie. I just bought it on amazon prime about 2 hours before I found this video 😄. This is seriously probably my number 1 "stop whatever I'm doing, sit down and watch over and over" movie. I now own this amazing and timeless flick on VHS, DVD, and digital format.
My voice was heard... Woohoo!!! I gave it a thumbs up before even watching. On my smoke break at work here so I can't wait to watch it later. And Minty, thank you!!!
God, I love this movie!
Thanks, again, Minty!! 🐉

Good for you! I shown this to my daughter around the same age, but she didn't like the scene where the bad guy inflated himself and blew up. Ten years later, she hasn't gotten over it no mater how much good natured ribbing I give her.
Minty Comedic Arts, Here's my story on how I first saw this. The first time I saw this movie was after I saw Transformers The Movie again on VHS. Mom and her then husband rented this along with Transformers. I wasn't expecting to like it, let alone love it. Now this is one of my favorite movies of the 1980s.
Talia al Ghul I watched this movie on Cinemax one Saturday afternoon with my brother back in '87. Good times
I love your videos. I drive 45 min round trip for work and listen to your vids during the ride. Me and the family just took a 2 hour round trip and i played your vids the entire trip. Love learning new stuff about the movies i love from the past. Big trouble is hands down my favorite movie of all time and will be watching this one tomorrow on the ride into work. Keep up the good work brother.
Now I gotta watch the movie again for the billionth time. 😂 Never gets old. I may even watch Escape from New York as well. Two of my favorite cult classic movies.

He’d never seen Maximum Overdrive either! The man was seriously deprived!! Peace out Minty and thanks for a great video!
TheDisneylover23 did he liked?
william fontoura He loved it, lol!
Minty really needs to get someone help with production of his videos, especially for fact checking and word pronunciation.
i remembered seeing Kim Catrall for the first time in Porky’s.
her character in Sex and the City makes a lot of sense now.
