  • I will share 37 travel hacks for packing a carryon bag for the airplane, for the hotel, and for the airport. This is a long list of tips and tricks I have been gathering for 2 years of travel so these will help you. Many of the packing hacks are inside this Bento Bag by Nomad Lane who is sponsoring this video. The number one travel hack is to pack essentials in your personal item bag. This tip makes more space in your carryon.
Another hack is to pack an extra vacation outfit in a compression cube. Slide it in this underseat personal item bag like you would a laptop.

When I travel especially international, I always grab a hotel business card and if we need to take a taxi back to the hotel, we just show the driver the business card..has saved us many times when the driver doesn't speak English.

I use my phones map app and pin drop the location I am staying and when I enter the taxi I show the driver the location I need to get to and I can track the distance to make sure they aren’t taking the long route. They see it as well.

I tried so many backpacks for traveling (not for hiking). I didn't like that they tended to collapse into themselves or fall over when free standing, or that everything fell to the bottom and I could not find what I was looking for. One day I was at target trying to find something better than what I had when I came across the baby aisle. It was then I discovered that what I was looking for was a diaper bag! I found that the storage and pockets made so much sense, it was available in adult colors, and it stood up on its own. This is now my new travel best friend.

In my hotel room, I always immediately do these things: I take out and clean the air conditioner filters, i clean them in the bathroom sink or bathtub or shower, i ask for extra shampoo to use to clean the filters. Wipe ac buttons with sanitizer wipes, too. I also bring ziplock baggies to put the tv remotes in. So i don't touch those icky buttons. Remote works inside the baggie. Another hack is immediately wipe all door knobs or handles inside and outside with sanitizer wipes, also all dresser, cabinet, and closet knobs and all wall light switches and those on the lamps as well. Wipe Fridge handles and microwave buttons too. Buttons on the safes, too. Be safe and enjoy your trip!!

I do most of the tips you mentioned but I like the idea of using plastic bags on remotes. In addition, I usually pay more attention to coffee making equipment. I clean the water kettle and NOT use any drinking glasses or coffee cups supplied by the hotel. I bring my own coffee cup and use paper cups for water drinking. I stay away from using hotel cutlery, use plastic spoons and forks, wash dishes and bowls thoroughly with hot water and soap. I would not use the bathroom robes either.

My travel tip is for my jewelry. I use a plastic travel soap dish. Also use a drinking straw for my necklaces. Place one end of the necklace through the straw and attach it at the bottom. It keeps them from tangling.

Lots of good ideas here! Just yesterday I reorganized the 5 pouches that I keep in my personal bag. ( I keep them packed so I can grab it whether for flying or driving.)1. Liquids/personal hygiene 2. Tech (charger, power bank, flash drive, cords for the different sort of plugs - although I plan to order an all-in-one cord before next big trip), cheap earbuds, and car charger 3. “Office” - pen, pencil, highlighter, small memo book, small pad of post-its, a few paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands, a 6in ruler/bookmark, and a lint-free glasses cleaning cloth 4. Miscellaneous - mini-first aid kit, sewing kit, tiny lint brush, mirror, alcohol wipes, a couple of clothes pins, tweezers, nail clippers, emery board, plastic fork and spoon, Tums, advil, and nighttime nose strips (plan to add some earplugs, too) 5. “Fabric” - a thin washcloth and extra pair of undies (these after I once spent 24 hours in the Newark airport☹️) and now an extra mask. I use a simple mid-size zippered tote and all 5 pouches together take up less than half the space and prepare me for almost anything ( although I do wish someone would make a travel size of scotch tape). At the end I add a book, iPad, and small crossbody bag with phone, wallet and travel docs.

I bring a few of my favorites washi tapes which I wrap around a small peace of cardboard. Only the first inch looses its adhesive properties, and the rest is good as tape or craft tape if working on a traveler’s notebook. Thanks for sharing your list and how you divide items up!

    • @lisabarter7918
      @lisabarter7918 ปีที่แล้ว +1

consider just taking a refill roll of scotch tape. Every time you use it, fold back the end so you can easily start it again. Also, you can mark the inside of your memo book with inches and eliminate the ruler.

Lush sells tins for their shampoo bars that fit them perfectly so no wet bars! Also, if you take two rubber bands and wrap them around the open tin (make like a little trampoline for the bar) and set your bar on top, it lets your bar dry out between uses so it’s not a gloopy mess on the bottom of the wet tin if you’ve kept it in the shower 👍🏻

On the day of our flight, I am up at 3 AM which is 9 AM in Central Europe. I easily “slide into” that time zone and I’m not groggy or waking up in the middle of the night. Happy Travels!

Just found your channel and want to say hello from this Houstonian to a fellow Houstonian! When you mentioned putting your umbrella in a zip lock bag, it reminded me of something I just found out. When you buy an umbrella, it usually comes with a matching cover and I, always in the past, would stick the cover in a drawer and forget about it. Turns out, those covers are meant to use when your umbrella is wet, so it won’t get everything else wet when you put it away in your handbag! Who knew?

@@maxine2261 Unfortunately I can't compare the Bento Bag to a backpack because I don't use backpacks, due to having a bad back. In addition to taking a picture of my parking space, I take a picture of my rental car’s license plate, so the number is handy during hotel check in. And if I’m going to be totally honest, I take a picture of the whole car because by the next morning I’ve often forget what it looks like, especially if I arrived jet lagged. Even so, certain models are really common for rental cars, so in a tourist area there may be a lot of lookalikes. That’s where having the license plate number can save some embarrassment.

I got my TSA pre-check last year, it works out to 17.00 per year, so it's a bargain even if you only use it once per year. It saves so much time and makes packing much less complicated. Keep your shoes and jacket on, electronics in their cases and walk through the metal detector with no body scan.

My favorite shampoo bar is from Naples Soap in Florida. I find that it only needs one or two rubs in my hair (long and thick) for the shampoo to bubble up quickly. Naples also sells little round cases, as they sell conditioner bars also. To ensure that the bars don't stick to the inside of the case (or a sink), I cut a small circular piece of a "soap rest" and place it inside. Soap rests are those little plastic squiggly soap holders that can be cut easily to size. I usually travel for a few weeks at a time when visiting family in Germany, then leave the leftover shampoo & conditioner bars for them. The empty boxes are good for jewelry and other small items.

Congratulations on hitting 100k. Thanks for all of the great travel hacks. Here are a few I use: I use the coffee cup lids from the hotels as a soap dish for at the sink or in the shower. I use Dove Soap and I save my soap slivers and use them as travel-size soap (I pack them in a baggie) - same with the Lush solid shampoo (a little goes a long way). I bought a small (round) swivel nightlight from Dollar Tree and use it in the hotel bathroom (or cruise ship bathroom) and if I leave it behind, no biggie, it was only $1. I also pack some flat car air fresheners in my luggage. They can be hung in the hotel closet or up against the hotel AC to help it smell nice. I also pack a travel sized spray perfume to spritz in the bathroom as needed. I found condiment containers (for ketchup/mustard/dressing) at Dollar Tree and they are the perfect size to hold shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shave gel, etc. They work well and do not leak. When I go to a hotel, I usually ask the desk for toothpaste and shaving cream because those smaller containers can be hard to find (or almost as expensive as the large size). When I stay in a hotel without a fridge (like in Vegas), I pack a small insulated bag (soft-side cooler) so I can keep ice frozen overnight. I hope these help!

I have a tip. I love to go camping so I buy toilet seat covers that come in in 5 covers per container also travel toilet paper. When I fly I bring them with me in my personal item bag. Because the last time I was on a plane they didn’t have seat covers. Also sometime airport bathrooms run out of both. So I’m ready because I have my own.

I use sport socks for slippers. They take up no space. I also saved 1.5oz eye drop bottles and put shampoo, face wash ,face gel, hair setting lotion, etc. It shrunk my liquids bag by 1/2. I put deodorant, toothpaste, sun'screen and creams in bead containers that screw together (from craft section at Walmart). I downsized my toiletry kit. I went through customs/TSA in Nee York twice and in Israel. Not one question.

Congrats Laurie on 100k....so well deserved!! Another great video! And ugh just came back from a short trip to Colorado with blisters!! I will have to try your hack on that! From now on will always have bandaids with me...lesson learned!! Here's a video idea.....packing for 2 destinations with different weather patterns. We took an Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago but stayed in Seattle for a few days to sight see. Alaska was cold and rainy. Seattle was very hot and sunny. It was a challenge between all the weather gear, having dress outfits and needing shorts. We really struggled with that one!! Love all your videos!

Congrats on the 100k subscribers, Laurie! Your tips are always helpful and your presentation of them is always fun and positive. Those zippers (not Y2K but YKK) are something I always look for now. One question about that awesome Bento Bag - What does it weigh? With every compartment and divider, that's extra material, so I wondered if it makes it a bit heavier. That is some SERIOUS organization in a personal item, and I'm all for that! That little nightlight "bug" is so cool! You've influenced me yet again. 😀

Love your videos. You’re so charming, generous to give credit to those who’ve shared ideas and so super smart with great ideas. As an inveterate traveler who is also super neat, organized and almost OCD about how to pack I’m humbled and delighted at your amazing advice. I won’t even let my son pack when he’s off for a week with his friends - he always wants to look good but take the smallest bag so he doesn’t look like he cares. I manage to get everything in by using many of your ideas. (Then I make him listen as I tell him which pocket and which side has this or that in it otherwise total chaos) I’m so glad to learn about the packing cubes for clothes. I’ve used them for big items like pillows and quilts (the kind you vacuum the air out) but these cubes for clothes sound fantastic! I would love to have one outfit easily accessible for each of us, and my PJs for when I arrive and want to crawl into bed. I also like to keep that one outfit or a different top and pants just in case you spill something and you’re all wet mid-flight.
I think I tend to travel to certain places or hotels that have more frills or services but it doesn’t mean your ideas are not just as applicable - you want to be smart and safe wherever you go. I so much appreciate your advice
