  • Vallejo FLOW IMPROVER explained in 5 minutes. We all know that the Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver is a retarder to help prevent tip drying. But I hope this video further explains thinning or not thinning with the airbrush thinner and Vallejo flow improver. Also discussed a bit are Vallejo "air paints" and most especially Vallejo Mecha Colors.

    I got my first airbrush last week and it’s a bit daunting worrying about not cleaning it properly and ruining it, the painting part I’m looking forward to now because I’ve found the secret recipe for the thinning sauce lol. That’s going to help a great deal. Thanks so much for making these videos for us they are invaluable.

    I'm just getting started and will be brush painting with Model Colors. I bought some Airbrush Flow Improver after watching another tutorial, in the hopes of being able to better control the thickness of the Model Color paints (they're so thick!). I'd love to know your thoughts on using Airbrush Flow Improver in this way? Do you have any tips on getting the best brush experience with the Model Color range?

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Model Colors are the best for brush painting amongst all the allejo paint range. Flow improver ill work, but it was formulated for airbrush use... The retarding effect does not give a huge difference in comparison to water. Cheers!

    Sorry if I missed out on info from previous videos. What is your thinning mix & ratio(s) if airbrushing (or paint brushing) Vallejo Model Color paints? Have you ever seen the need to use Vallejo Retarder medium in your mix? What's the difference between Vallejo airbrush thinner and thinner medium? Thank you for your videos.

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For airbrushing? No need for retarder medium. Airbrush thinner is for airbrush thinning, thinner medium will add a bit of transparency but has the consistency perfect for brush painting. Not airbrush use sir. For base coating with Model Color, I thin roughly 3 parts paint and 1 part medium or water. For airbrushing Model Colors, it is roughly thinned 1:1 with airbrush thinner or water ( make sure to add a few drops of flow improver ). I hope I answered your Qs. ☺️

      Hi, mix the thinner ( or water ) 3 parts and 1 part flow improver = thinning sauce. Then now you mix 1 part thinning sauce to 3 to 4 parts model air. ☺️

    Subscribed. Found you thru the Vallejo Insta page. I'm just starting airbrushing and right now only use Vallejo Model Air acrylics. I like them, but it seems like a science when to thin, when not to.
    One question...what does their Flow Improver consist of that thinner doesn't? I know what their improver is designed for, but not the difference technically between their improver and an acrylic thinner\water. Thanks!

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Welcome to the channel bro. Model Airs are generally easy to airbrush, so easy sometimes, you do not have to thin them as much. Where do you live, I mean the weather and such plays a huge role in thinning and the use of the flow improver. IF you are using a .5 airbrush at 20psi, a couple of drops of flow improver + model air will suffice. ☺️

    • @G_Machine_Joe

      @@DonSuratos Thanks. I use a .3 tip. And the paint dries pretty quickly because of the environment (room) I'm in. I have thinned while practicing even though it's Air paint, but got tip dry pretty quickly. Just wondered if the Improver ingredients will help in that regard better. I'm a newbie so have a lot of practicing to do. 🙂
