90% of Amex Gold Users Are MISSING OUT (5 Overlooked Benefits)

  • In this video, we go over the Amex Gold card and 5 overlooked Amex Gold benefits that many holders of this credit card forget about. These benefits allow users of the American Express Gold card to get more value by either earning more points or reducing the annual fee so that it’s easier to make the Amex Gold worth it. American Express credit cards like this Amex Gold card can have higher annual fees, so it's important to get value from these credit cards that exceeds that annual fee by as much as possible.
    I think that the American Express Gold card is one of the best credit cards in 2022, especially if you plan to use the Membership Rewards Points that it earns for travel with transfer partners. But at $250 per year, it can be tough to justify for a lot of people. The $240 of annual credits towards Uber and dining partners can help bring more value, but I like to take advantage of other forgotten Amex Gold benefits as well.

    The hotel collection benefit is great and no one talks about taking full advantage of this benefit. You can use it for upto 3 rooms per stay and receive that $100 credit per room. So traveling with family and friends this is really useful and also it’s not just a one time use credit, it’s a multi use credit that can be used when ever traveling at the properties in the Hotel collection program

    Retention offers are great. On the platinum I received a 55k points after 3k spend in 3 months. On the Gold card I received 30k after 3k spend. 85k points for something I’ll hit in a month of normal spend was great! That’s $935 when applied to a Schwab account at 1.1% just for the offer, not including the 4x MR points that will come along with that normal spend.
    Definitely utilize the cards to their full advantage, and budget out your spend!

    Using credit card offers is so big. Anytime I need to buy something I check them all, not just Amex. I needed new work shoes, Chase had 8x points if I bought the pair on a specific site. I needed a new phone. Cap1 was offering 6% back as a statement credit. Wanted to send flowers to mom for her birthday, 15x points on Chase again. It's just free money for stuff I was going to get anyways.

    Hey Dan, can you make a video on your opinion over using the freedom unlimited for restaurants and upgrading the points with the reserve card, versus going for the Amex gold? I am having a hard time justifying the gold card after having the chase trifecta. Does it all come down to if you can get extra value from transfer partners? I spend a lot on food and my wife spends a ton on shopping, is there a spend threshold where it is worth switching to the Amex system?
    I also worry most TH-camrs push the gold because there is a financial inventive to do so.

    I have the gold card and to be honest I don’t like it. They don’t credit your points until 8-12 weeks after eligible purchases AND they make you pay the annual fee (250) on your first statement. The fact that I do not have a set credit limit also does nothing for my credit and most of their offers do not suit my lifestyle. I should’ve done better research. I have cards with massive limits and don’t pay any annual fees. If I had to pay the 250 after one year of use.. maybe I would feel differently.

    • @jasonhonyotski6238
      @jasonhonyotski6238 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not having a set credit limit is seen as a benefit by some, because it means purchases on the card don't count towards your revolving credit utilization, allowing you to keep that % lower which is good for your credit score.

      So the Amex Gold card can be good even if you don't travel much - but you'll want to make sure that you use the $240 of credits to make the card worth it. I would just say that if you have a corporate card then the sooner the better to see if you can get the statement credit applied for the current year. Then you can see if you can get a retention offer in August as well if Amex will give one to you

      I thought the same thing before, but actually when you share your link, the offers can change depending on who uses the link. Sometimes the offer may be less than public offers, sometimes it may be same or better. So best practice is to always check for the best offer available to you!

    Here’s my fear, what if the anuel fee increases ?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately that's a possibility like what Amex did with their Platinum card last year. But they usefully add benefits and credits to help offset that annual fee. I'd say that if you're concerned about the annual fee increasing, then cards like this card best to stay away from. No annual fee cards would be better because those are highly unlikely to ever get an annual fee.

    Won't you be stealing points from your friend by referring them? I'm assuming they get the public welcome bonus instead of a targeted one if they use your referral.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can actually get the same targeted offers even with a referral link! The best practice is to use incognito mode in chrome or try different web browsers at different times of the day until you see the top target offer.
      This involves people needing to know what offers are out there as well which can be found by doing some research online.

    kind of washed, every TH-cam credit card guy says the same shit. "offers, rakuten, use my link, blah blah blah" yall just re using the same jargon over and over again. not creative.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rafael, this is actually only the second time that I've mentioned Rakuten in a video here on my channel out of my 75 videos and I really do actively try not to push links too much because I want my channel to be about the content more than anything and I know what you're saying about some channels mentioning links too much.
      However, as a content creator, we also put many many hours into each video because it takes way more effort than most people realize to plan, script, film, and edit each video (this video probably took close to 10 hours in total from beginning to end to make it). Then its free to watch here on TH-cam and I try to provide as much value as I can for my viewers to learn new things.
      Mentioning affiliate links for good products like Rakuten every now and then allows my viewers to get something valuable like a bonus while also helping to support the channel by giving me a commission as well. It allows me to continue making content that is free and actually helps me avoid using sponsors that could pay me to advertise their products. So overall, it's meant to be a positive thing that allows the audience to get something of value and it allows me to make more future content for free. I also say no to 99% of companies that ask me to mention their links and I only ever mention products that I use myself and think my audience would enjoy.
      I understand if you choose not to watch my videos, but I like to respond to comments like this and be as transparent as possible about the process of making TH-cam videos because I want to be able to continue sustaining my channel to grow it and provide more value as I get better over time. Thanks for reading this long comment if you do! 👍
