Honestly I just want VBL’s. Basically just wheeled Wiesels - a 20mm variant similar to Wiesel 1A4, a Milan carrying variant akin to the Wiesel 1A2, and a Mistral carrying variant equivalent to the Ozelot. There’s also several AA vehicles they could receive at lower br’s, mainly the AMX-13 chassis with a twin 30mm gun similar to the AMX-30 DCA, but without a radar, so it could fit at 7.0-7.7, giving the extremely good French lineup at 7.7 an actual AA to use Then you have the completely overdue Mirage F1C
The VBL Mistral isn't remotely equivalent to the Ozelot. It is hand cranked, only has 2 missiles and no thermal camera. The closet equivalents to Ozelot would be the VBR MPCV or the VAB TA20 (with Mistrals pods) or something with a SANTAL turret. The actual french Wiesel equivalent is the VPX 5000
While I agree that both nations should receive a co-developed vehicle, the reason why Germany gets certain Austrian vehicles is likely because some of the other Austrian tanks could potentially fit there as well in the future, and that Austria was a part of the German Reich, so their history and vehicles are shared. For example, I could see a Saab 105 being added to the German tree as part of an Austrian "line". Although I doubt it's going to happen since it's also a premium.
Just started the French tree. Tanks so far ( up to 3.3) are fun and the mix of US and UK sprinkled in now helped me start on the UK tree as well. But the planes... I am now using the premium 1.3 D510 as it is simply better than anything I have right now (2.7) the M.S are all just bad as fighters in ground RB, the dive bomber is fine but also lacking and twin bombers/attackers are just not mine. Atleast at 3.3 I finally get a good plane... a US one. Find the issue.
Thank you for calling out the problem in the repair cost balancing stratergy. I will freely admit that I'm not a very good player, I'm usually in the top 1/4 for my team but win less than half my matches... But all these vehicles with very high repair costs, I can never even break even playing them and I don't get why they try to balance their game that way.
literally even before the update my rule was play the amx m4, if you kill some then you can continue playing if you dont kill ENOUGH then get out of the game becouse is just going to make you lose money due to the amx13 and the char25
The repair cost is killing me. And the Lorraine should probably be at 7.3 the auto loader is good, but the armor is paper thin and it has only 4 crew members.
the lorraine is literally a higher BR than the leopard and worse than the leopard in almost every way, really does make you question gaijins ability to think sometimes
@@vikingsoftomorrow4038 the issue is that the lorraine is slightly less mobile than the leopard, has a worse gun (with ammo that is better in a downtier) has worse gun handling, the only thing it has over the leo is a slightly better reload but the trade off for that is it is hilariously easy to ammo rack. And seriously though the gun it has cannot even penetrate many of the 7.7 br heavies it will often face let alone some of the things it gets uptiered to.
As a french main who is slogging through the (mainly air) tech tree, I appreciate this video. Still waiting for French Naval so that I can bully people with the M.B. 175t

@@pietrooliani3251 well I've never tested the torpedo but the platform is nice, 12 HVAR's with three MG 151's, two forward facing and one turret, both with minengeschoss makes it an amazing Heavy fighter even though it's technically a bomber. and to fix the the problem of the guns being far apart I set the convergence to 500. Edit: also I forgot there are a lot of american naval imports.
@@raptorjesus7273 The british are a hard counter for Jumbos, anything else struggles to hurt you at that BR, even panthers. The Jumbo struggles without parts though, since its more of an attrition tank.

It's between France and Japan that they really need to flesh out the tank trees. Japan has the same SL problem as France but it starts earlier on and due to lack of tanks the xp grind is basically a war crime from 3.3 onward.
As a Japan main I'll say that I'm always sad when I see updated with 0 Japanese vehicles. But at least gaijin doesn't exploit us so hard by making all the best vehicles exclusive to premium/events
Honestly like every single other game problem, it would not be a deal breaker if repair costs didn't exist. I can honestly live with underpowered vehicles, low rewards and broken mechanics, as long as at the end of the day I make progress. I played elite dangerous entirely on combat when doing so was barely paying for the cost of the ammo I was shooting out, but at least as long as I played correctly and didn't get tunnel vision, I'd always walk out with some sort of progress. War thunder is the opposite. If I play exceedingly well, I walk out with a tiny bit of profit, but playing badly or even just being average nets you a pure loss. Recently this even started being true of premium accounts, which while I never bought premium I was at least always tempted by it. Now I know it's barely useful now that rewards have sunk so much, and I won't feel like playing a game if playing it nets me at an unequivocally worse position than when I started playing it.
There's even a French decoration that is only available on naval vehicles, decals for the French navy, an entire line of French naval aircraft, no navy.
We even have french naval lines too!!! Incase you didn't know And you can evencheck them out by changing crew language to settings and playing in naval with the french language selected
i love that even if everyone try to defend their favorite nation as much as they could, we can all agree that gaijins treatment of france is just awful
The FL11 is actually more than capable at that their in the right hands. It's gun is more that potent enough to take on most things, especially once you get M61 APCBC. Yeah, it's elevation is nothing to write home about, but it's in a small, mobile package, making it easy to hide and flank in. I've kill quite a few players in the FL11 from them either not noticing me approach or not seeing where I was, including Tigers. After all, at the end of the day the AMX-13s are light tanks. You're not meant to be charging in taking fire from the front. You're meant to scout.

I’m a heavy French main myself and one aircraft hat always comes to mind that’ll be perfect for the game currently is the Mirage f1c. People would instantly freak out about it because it’s well a mirage but it’s a lot more of a true interceptor compared to the mirage3 or even the mirage 2000. With planes like the ej kai, viggen and mid roaming around with little competition, I feel like the mirage f1c can potentially balance out he power of top tier currently and will serve as a excellent addition to the French Air tree
@@cboisson56 your right but there great missiles. Magic’s 2 might be very overpower though since it’s 40g all aspect it missile but the super matra 550 would be the equivalent to the aim 7 e2 in game currently, but instead they pull 30g
F1C won't balance anything it has no PD radar, it's radar is actually worse than a F4E's but it will get clapped harder than it due to only having 4 missiles.
France's air tree has it even worse than the tanks. France has one of the two worst top tier planes in game, Mirage IIIE (Alongside the F-104S) even though they have a tonne of potential new vehicles that could make them one of the most competitive air trees in War Thunder. The Mirage F1 is 4 months late and even if added today would be massively outclassed by the MLD and Viggen. Hell Israel got a better Mirage this patch with the Kfir. Super Etendard is still missing, Mirage 5 only got added this patch even though it couldve been done alongside the Mirage IIIE.
Kfir is a worse weapon platform than Mirage 3E. It has that juicy flight performance yes but it traded it in expense of the R.530 and R.550 missiles. Mirage 3E is still going to be fairly fine to play, it's just... not top tier since it lacked that competetive flight performance and more importantly, PD radar. And hisotrically France never yieleded any PD radar until Mirage 2000C.
Germany waited more than a year and received a literal copy of the F4, only with less CAS and A2A payload options and the BIS (another copy that was added an entire year later). Hell, the missiles Germany gets (the most important thing about top tier planes) are worse than the missiles France gets. STOP FUCKING WHINING.
On top of all that, you have to play too many non-domestic vehicles to be able to unlock the final air rank. There was exactly one minor-ish update in which you could jump from early jets to the Mirage without grinding a bunch of American stuff most of us already have. But nope, to get your Mirages you have to research and buy at least two top props and two jets that are boring duplicates of a better tree. I for one would be machoistic enough to grind through a Magister if it meant the mostly foriegn-built lines had something unique. Another loop of stupidity is "Nobody cares about France, so we won't add much of anything.", which is just a painful spiral for those of us who want to play something outside of the norm.

Your tree literally gets unnecessary additions every single update, while the more relevant producer of military tech, France is left in the lurch. Boo hoo, you need a new jet to counter the Flogger K. France still needs a fucking plane to counter the Flogger B and Fishbed N. Maybe you should realize how entitled you are, with a tree that is ***GUARANTEED*** to always get new additions every update. Maybe you should realize how many indigenous French weapons are still not usable in their home tree. Maybe, you should fucking realize that Germany is still part of the Big 3 and will always be a top priority to get new tech. Oooh, so awful, Germany gets to use dogfight sidewinders that they never used in reality to buff up their top tier jets. So awful that Germany will be guaranteed to have access to AIM-9L when they are added. So awful that Germany is guaranteed to end up getting AIM-120 on release. Poor, poor German tree fans. Not as if France, a larger exporter of military aircraft and technology would be left in the dust with a Mirage F1C while Germany, the USA and Russia get Gen 4+ aircraft, right? Pshh, why would the Rafale, an aircraft that entered service earlier than the Eurofighter be added in the same update?
I'm French and I was really happy to see the French tech tree appear in War Thunder. I precommanded the B1-TER when it came out with my friends. I loved it and what we had was good ... But only at first. Then came the long waiting for new vehicles and the mentioned problems with costs. I literally no longer play the game anymore because grinding the tech tree is just a pain more than a pleasure. I also started grinding the german tech tree and it was quite fine. I could have continued. War Thunder disgusted me from the vehicles I literally paid thousand to see for real in my country with my friend. It's odd, it's wrong. Some are gonna say that France is not the worst, and that I'm just a baby or bad. But no, I can see when I'm making mistakes, and where I can get better. The problem is that I don't pay the same price when I lose my tank than other nations. I literally have to split my time between grinding money and grinding the tree. And I cannot play the tanks I like because I'm losing money by doing so. Even tho I'm not a bad player. Even some of my friends that grinded more tech trees where doing the same, friends I consider far better players than me. There are holes in the tech tree everywhere so we have to get vehicules from litterally 2 or 3 BR under the main one just to fill the gap. And when new vehicles we were waiting for AGES finally come out ? Friking event or premium vehicles ... Nothing in the main tree ! AMX-50 Surblindé ? Event vehicle ! E.B.R ? Premium ! The only AMX-30 they wanted to fit with a stab is a premium because they don't recognize an auto-locking system has a stabilizer even tho they don't have the equivalent in the game and that would be the same has a stab in practice (it's supposed to be BETTER than a stab in real life FFS) There are a lot of light tanks like the ELC variants or all the other variants of AMX-13 and AMX-30. They are nowhere to be found. I'm just sick of it.
As a French Canadian, I feel like France is just there to exist in War Thunder. Which is a shame considering they are the fourth most powerful military IRL and therefore could be considered a major nation.
In my experiences with a premium account, making SL profits in French ground RB 6.7-7.7 is incredibly tedious at best and frustrating to the point of quitting at worst. The new economy changes further exacerbate these issues as passive performance is not rewarded anymore. The methodology and lack of transparency behind repair costs in War Thunder is one of its worst aspects. I really wonder what their player statistics look like on their end to make these sorts of decisions. I think that when they raised the BR of many French vehicles like the AMX-13 and Char 25T, their repair cost should have been lowered to reflect their strengthened opponents. Of course the Leo 1 gets to sit at 7.3 with a 5k repair cost for some reason.
@XxRxX UwU I have 1800 hours and an RB efficiency of 69% on Thunder Skill. My in game performance is usually above the average player, so it is not a skill issue at hand in my opinion. The point I was trying to make is that the methods of calculation for repair cost are inconsistent. Vehicles that exist across multiple trees have wildly differing repair cost. French vehicles are put in a constant feedback loop where only experienced players will regularly play them as only experienced players can do well with them, further driving the repair cost up through an algorithm that Gaijin doesn't show the player base. A fairer system would require manual and more consistent balancing by vehicle type.
@XxRxX UwU bruh you gotta be the first person I heard who defends repair costs. Also, yea some maps are bad for some vehicles so you probably shouldn't use them. That's why you get a cooldown on them for leaving, preventing you from useing them in the next match.
My guess is that French mains are more dedicated to the tree and their data might be showing that they can squeeze more money out of them by encouraging them to buy premium and vehicles. Idk how true that is since France is so neglected but I can’t think of why else they would keep making these changes to the French tree.
I started the game with the french tech tree and it's really frustrating seeing that france gets unecessary nerf a lot of the time it feels like gaijin only listens to trash players. This is the best example why balancing the game only relying on players' stats is a really bad idea in this game
@@withoutstickers the Super Mystere is my favorite jet, and the VB10.02 is the best heavy fighter in its br bracket. The VG-33 has performance comparable to a Bf109-G2 but at 2.7. Most other planes are just copies.
@@withoutstickers eh planes are absolutely fine personally, plenty of choice for a quick bomb run with MD 450s and the Vautours, with the latter being really damn good at bombing, the Super Mystere gets bullpups as well as the Etendard.
Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. I started out mainly playing the USSR, the the US. Recently, because I had been doing a lot of research on French tanks due to an RP server, I ended up really liking them, so I decided to go down France. Getting the EBR was also a reason for grinding it. It was very enjoyable, but I couldn't help but feel that French tanks were just way too high in cost or in BR. Char B1 bis for example. (Iirc, it's like 2.3 or something), gets clobbered pretty easily but still fights F2s. The AMX-30s are also pretty high for just being decent light tanks. The worst offender imo is the Lorraine 40t, which is worse than the Leopard 1 yet sits above it (Leo 1 at 7.3 was great balance wasn't it?). It's slightly slower, has a worse gun (no HEAT or APDS), worse armor, and a higher repair cost. The only thing it has is the autoloader, which yeah it's good, but not *that* good. And the AMX-30 is somehow better than the Leopard besides having a worse gun and shells bc "lmao 20 mil", even though they're honestly equal. It truly sucks ass because French tanks are some of my favorites and I also adore the Mirages (where tf is the Mirage F1?!). Guess this is one of the reasons i started playing less WT.
the AMX 13FL11 was fine at 3.3, it was basically a chaffee without the stab but faster. Now they put the chaffe at 3.7 and the FL11 at 4.0? I mean what?
@@cboisson56 they are not the same tank, they are the results of an aborted common tank project with Germany. But yeah, they are pretty similar in specs (AMX 30 is slightly more armored but has less shell types available). I guess they put it at 7.7 because of the 20 mm gun (that doesn't explain the 10K repair cost though)
AMX-30 was actually introduced as 7.3 and got 7.7 couple of years ago, considering that it performs simmilar to other 7.7. Personally, i consider Leopard being the worst 7.7 MBT, yeah it is fastest of the bunch, but not by much, it doesn't have stabiliser unlike STB, armour is useless(not that others are really armoured, but sometimes it helps, unlike leo), doesn't have high caliber MG (20mm cannon is useful because it easily destroy tracks and especially cannons), scope zoom sucks. I don't think it needed to be 7.3 (maybe it should, but 6.3 suffer), but it doesn't really perform as it's brothers.
The French AA gap is awful from the amx 13 to the amx 30. The amx 13 is miles out of its depth by their strong 7.3 and 7.7 lineups. France are crying out for a 7.3 AA. Surely a non radar amx 30 is a simple option? I don’t know enough about French vehicle history to suggest specific vehicles but they need one badly. I’m sure forum posts have been made to gaijin already with good options
there exists many french AA tanks or vehicles with 15-20-30-40mm guns, radar or not, if gaijin gave france all its vehicles that existed, for the whole tech tree it would rival the US's, except for the WW2 era for reasons edit: heck they even had an AA truck carrying a 75mm gun in WW1 (though its unsure if a variant carrying its own ammo existed, they usually had another truck carrying it)
You know when i was looking for a new tech tree to grind i was really interested in france because i liked how cool the oscillating turrets looked...until i saw the ridiculous repair costs and low sl multiplier. Im fairly convinced that to play france, premium isnt just recommended, its a requirement.
it's not a requirement, but you do need to be a good player (actually good, not just above average) and perform well consistently to gain a reasonable amount of SL overtime... which of course if you played a more forgiving tree you would be swimming in SL following the same logic comparativelly but that's just how it goes for France: you must accept pain.
Amx 13 was my crush until I unlocked it and realised only then a fucking 10k repair cost that was uncalled for, I honestly want a shit ton of German players to start playing France just so repair cost drops
As a French main and also a French passionate in history. An other thing is that French tanks are not realists. The EBR 1963 war in reality produced in 1964. Many mechanics as retractable wheels are not here while they are on other tanks. Some of equipment and stuff are not available (even in some old tanks) and it give to the player a feeling of injustice, that the dev didn't search enough about French tank technology and stuff.
I love the new Leclerc cuz it means I need to use fewer backups on the S1 and S2, but the fact that all 3 useful top tier tanks use the same SP pool means that for 3 spawns I can look at upwards of 1000-1200 SP, while in other nations I could spawn an MBT, light tank, and TD for about 400 SP, or 2 of each for the same 1200 SP (double the amount of spawns of France). France desperately needs more of a mix at top tier, and if they filled out the massive holes in the tree with top tier lights, and had a slightly better low-tier experience, France could easily become a 4th favourite nation.
@@muffin_the_great Britain has 3 stabilized Rooikats (2 TT, 1 prem) between 8.3-8.7 and the VFM5 at 9.3. Thats already +3 for stabilized light tanks over the French, all of which I can use effectively right through to 10.0 with the challengers. Brits also have stabilized 8.3-9.0 Chieftains/Olifant, the 9.7 & 10.0 Challengers, the TTD, and 3 Chally 2 versions, not to mention the ADATS as a TD/AA. Britain is looking downright glamorous compared to France at top tier, with the only other stabilized "top tier" tank the french get besides the leclerc being the AMX-40 at 9.7. Oh and don't forget the ITO90M which costs 20,000 SL to spawn and die because its the size of a fuckin bus, while having no ability to defend itself from tanks.

@@muffin_the_great The fact you have ANY stabilized tanks prior to 9.3 means that you're ahead of France, and believe me i've seen rooikats do just fine at 11.0 with the speed they have. Most nations are lacking top tier lights, even Germany has 9.7 as their highest light tank in the TAM2C, with russia only getting top tier lights the past 2 updates. While Britain's lights are nothing like those of Sweden, America, or even Russia's 2S25M SPRUT, just be glad you have ANY light tanks above 8.0. As for ADATS, the fact you have ANYTHING besides an MBT that can kill tanks is, once again, a +1 for France. Plus, its an AA that doesn't have ridiculous repair cost, meaning you can spawn it while not worrying about losing 20,000 SL. Trust me, as someone who plays America, Britain, Sweden, France, and Russia, France is the nation which suffers most from lineups above 8.3, as it has a massive jump from the AMX30s at 8.3, to AMX32 and AMX40 at 9.3/9.7. This is a full jump of 2.7 BRs (8.3-11.0) which has only TWO (2) MBTs in it. You cannot complain about how Britain has only 3 lights on a conversation about France which has a grand total of ZERO.
One has to wonder how many people don't play France literally because they see it very rarely getting meaningful additions (Mirage 5 I'm pretty sure is a pity addition from the Israeli one and the new Leclerc doesn't even have the advertised improved protection). For the VBCI 2, I remember seeing images of one with a HITFIST 30 weapon system, and the mention of MMPs for the 'normal' turret.
Most of the actual French (as in stuff that isn’t a lend lease copy paste) rank 1-4 planes are generally mediocre at best, I once considered grinding french planes just to get the mirage IIIC, but that pretty much went out of the window now that Israeli air tree got added with better mirages.
I started this game with playing France. Iam blown away by their designs, I have books about each vehicles etc. But in WT its just pain and disappointment... They just don't care about french BIG and interesting military designs :(
What I love most about the french tech tree is how a lot of the vehicles just have no counter part in other nations. They have such unique designs that its arguably one of the trees I have the most fun with.
I've went through French tonk tree, from the most bottom to the top. That was my first tree to complete. And I dropped WT after that. It was not fun experience.

As a french main and French People. I agree on the point that France have much more vehicule than many other nation in the game for the top tier mainly, but whether you like it or not its just historical. The French defense industry has always produced and designed vehicles whether they are prototype or put into service. Many other nation are also minored (especially for top tier ) like China and Italy, they have many tank to had and IFV to add in the game. But this kind of problem is an exact reflection of Gaijin's trade policy. Many vehicles would not require a monster amount of work to be added whether it is among the French or in other nations! All the more so when certain turret or chassis models are already present in the game. Like the Vextra mentioned in your video. PS : I play every nation and i have all the tanks :)
I'm a bit of a sucker for unconventional tanks, so France is one my favorites for how often they tried to innovate and came up with interesting designs.
First, we had to suffer with rank 1 reserves (which can be fairly good if played “right”). Then, we had to suffer with the insane repair costs (but highly overpowered) auto loader tanks. And now, we suffer with a lack of vehicles to fill in the gaps of the tree. Viva la France, I guess.

No stab so you'll loose duels all the time OP? what? The autoloader is useless if you have rounds than can one shot from the front plate. France does not have these rounds.

And you didn't mention the ERC 90, which saw widespread use, it's not terribly unique, but it is necessary. Also the AMX 13 105, which is the turret on that new German thing. Also an egregious mistake is the lack of sideskirts on the AMX30B2, which it was equipped with in its only combat service. And yet another big mistake is the lack of ground attack payloads on the French F100D, which France exclusively used as a bomber... Much of this comes down to a lack of research, and difficulty researching, in France.
"Difficulty researching France" No they outright nerf the vehicle. The IV-M got its gun removed when QGm s are equipped because Gaijin had the manual. But they completely ignore the entire chapter about its radar for mysterious reasons. And its not difficult to read it says radar outright and even has a nice drawing about its range on different targets.
I love playing French but can't because playing any higher than 3.7 is impossible for me as it requires that i make atleast 6-7 kills a game to just break even, they really need to unfuck them especially 5.3

Gaijin: There aren't many french tech tree players, not worth it. Players: Eh, there's not a lot of options in the french tech tree. Best stick to the main three (I'd argue four, britland definitely has a decent tech tree). This right here is gaijooble 'LOJIK'. I just returned to the game after taking several months to play other things and get away from the toxicity of gaijiggles and the player base. Upon returning, I am having a refresher course on every reason I got tired of it, and some new and returning bugs just to spice it up. Gaijumbawumba really is the worst dev. So many things need fixing, major problems.
If you think Gaijin is the worst dev, then you clearly haven't heard of DICE, Activision, WarGaming, Blizzard (guess that's just an extentsion of Activision tho), EA (Not sure if they are just publishers or if the actually do Dev as well). The list can go on an on, on who is a lot worse than Gaijin.

Why not allow joint unlocks for joint research projects? So for the mbt/kpz maybe you get 50% rp to the corresponding other nation's counterpart? Could help alleviate some of the grind. Honestly gaijin just needs a legitimate competitor to improve player experience... They've been stagnant for too long.
Hey Spook, here are some more ideas to add more flavour to the French Ground tech-tree : As for SPAA, two come to my mind French AMX-13 with the turret of the AMX-30 DCA, and an AMX-12 or 13 with 4 Mg151 but no radar. There is a variant of the Vextra, the Vextra with the 120mm "FER" : Faible Effort de Recul, so a low recoil 120mm similar to the one of the Leclerc this variant was built and tested, but never in large numbers and never used or made ready for export (as opposed to the Vextra which was fully completed and operational). For light tanks French has dozen of prototypes but also some more that can easily be implemented the ELC and its variants, the ERC-90 Sagaie, and the VBC 90 and VCS 90. There is also the AMX-10P, similar to the Marder, but with a rear mounted ATGM. As for tanks it's hard to find very modern top tier MBT for France except the "Tropicalized variant of the Leclerc for the EAU", although since Gaijin likes to add prototypes of the Leopard 2, they could add some prototype for the Leclerc : the EPC, it would bridge a gap between the AMX-40 and the first Leclerc. Moreover for tanks, there are still variants of the AMX-50 and the AMX-30 that are not in the game, although they would not change much. For instance the variants of the AMX-30 made for Spain, the AMX-30E that includes several upgrades and so on. Another "medium" that France could use is the M-47, France used it for quite some time in the early cold war before they develop the AMX-30, and they also tested the gun of the AMX-30 on a M-47, would be a cool event vehicle or premium. If people like fast things with 20mm there is a VBL and a VAB with one of these, and dozens of VAB variants for whatever missile you like, Hot, Milan, Crotales and so on. That's all that come to my mind, but I believe there are dozens more in the Suggestions of the Warthunder forum.
The VCS is literally pre production VBC. Though o would like to see the stab versions on day For marder like stuff I would use the AML Ecalairge instead. At least the ATGM is forward facing. Or the AMC 6X6. Which is bigger. With a 30mm and HOTs. Stanilized and thermals. Good vehicle.
If you wanna talk Leclerc prototypes. There's the "Ares" demonstrator and the 140mm Terminateur. There's also the Europanzer that France built that can go before the AMX-30.
I could go on and on about how the French tech-tree has been neglected, but in the last couple of updates I've only been waiting for one thing... French IFV when?
When I saw the title I immediately thought of the AMX-30 SUPER case, where it’s the only tank with a dual-plane stabiliser at its BR for France and it’s a premium, this was probably done to force players to spend money to get it to have a somewhat bearable experience playing France.
It's not like theres 4 more AMX 30 and 2 more AMX 32 with 105mm guns all with and stab that could be added with minor reskins . Oh no let's add another T72 subvariant where the ERA was randomly shuffled by Ivan when drunk.
An other big problem with french tanks is the gearbox. Mainly for cold war vehicules, horsepower are at much more rpm than other nations. However if in reality people will just keep it at a low gear to have all the power available, in war thunder you switch every gear when you're near 2000rpm or less while the best power is at 3200rpm or more. So for a nation who bet a lot on speed acceleration and manuverability, this is a big problem.
I have played a only measly 237hours in war Thunder, and only reached to ARL-44 BR 5.3. Constantly changing nations to get more silver lions. Someone save my soul.
Imo Gaijin really sleeps on the French tech tree. France had one of the largest militaries in Europe, yet they get treated as a minor nation. If Gaijin would actually put in the effort, people would play that tree more often and make them money. They just aren't willing to put in the risk and people call them out for it. And it's not like they don't have the resources for it, judging by the addition of the Israeli tech tree and the Sk-105
France sure lack a lot of vehicle in the ground tree but where it s shown the most is the air tree. It s been 2 years since the F-4E has been introduced and 1 for the MiG-23 yet France has to receive it s Mirage F1 when it could already receive the early variants of the Mirage 2000C and still be in the meta. And I m not going to talk about the Mirages FM still being bad and way underperforming. However, another problem is how Gaijin treat the french community. I can understand they don’t want to make certain vehicle of the french TT their priority but lying to the community is a big red line that already has been crossed. The main example being gaijin saying they can’t make the Mirage III as their engine couldn’t handle tailless delta wing and announcing the Draken less than a week after. More recently, their way to handle the ground TT has been pretty poor too, with them saying they want to choose only one support vehicle to add despite other nation getting them alll little by little and even some nations like Germany needing prototypes to keep the flow steady. It lead to a downward spirale where they kind of miss treat the TT, making less player play it, making less money, making them less wanting to add stuff. It has come to a point where Israel has better french vehicle than France itself.

I love playing france, as it's the most interesting tech tree in the game. Unfortunately, I'm not really good at the game, and find 7.7 (my highest BR) quite a pain to play, especially since the AMX 30, as the first propper MBT in the tree, lacks a stabiliser. Which makes uptiers especially painfull.

And France is probably one of the nations that suffers most from BR compression, as even the AMX 50 Surbaissé, which is classified as a heavy tank, is easily killed by most tanks it can face, even in down tiers.
To b fair for the DF-105, the French only supplied a turret from what I know. Especially considering the amount of work Germany developed for the DF. I think this case, the tank fell under: "Which nation supplied the most amount of R&D as well as who supplied the most components." Especially considering the DF-105 was made to be an export tank, rather than a domestic military service vehicle.
Well technically you could say Germany only supplied the hull. Also France brought their own optical systems, which was one of the reason Gaijing originally wanted the sk105 to be German. In reality the fire control system was also French. One could argue that the most important thing to look at is the gun, as the marder hull alone would not do much.
@@m103heavytank2 well, the entire control system, the missiles, the radar, the computers… are French. Actually Gaijing could not really do anything about that, as the ITO is the only Crotale system that was made on a single vehicle system. The French Army only has a 2 vehicles system, one dedicated for the radar and the other holding all the missiles. That means that in real life the french system is much more precise and have loads of missiles stored, but it can’t really be implemented as it is in the game. So the ITO makes sense. When you think about that, France is already supplying a total of 4 nations including itself with AA systems : Germany US and Swedish tech trees

@@jeandelacroix6726 actually there is a suggestion in the forum for a Crotale with only one vehicle (the FSV, I think) that was developped by France for exports. It could easily replace the ITO.

I still don't get why gaijin made most of the EBR's be battle pass only. Like if they were prototypes i'd kinda get it but these weren't they actually got produced in great numbers (well i know why Gaijin did it really. They love money). Also you'd think if they saw a vehicle performing well they'd just put it up in BR

This is way too true for me. I started playing warthunder under america where the vehicles were good, but just lacked character. Which drove me to france, which I love more than any other nation ive touched. I can consistently get 7+ K/D games at 5.3-11.0 because of how much time I've sunk into learning and playing the vehicles. Everytime an update rolls out i hope and pray for a french vehicle, but it almost never happens, nothing too interesting anyways. Even after the economy changes that made french vehicles cheaper, its not by much. You barely break even, even if you play well. Thank You Spookston for shedding light on the situation which no one pays attention to.
I can't recommend more people play the ARL44 (ACL-1) enough. Even more so if you're trying too grind France, you'll get a lot of bounces, I call it the low teir jumbo.
As stabilized support vehicle there is also the ERC Saguaie (1 or 2, 2 has thermals and better hp/t) with the TTB 190 by SAMM. The gun is the same as the MARS 15 so it would fit with the AMX-30 B, an already overcrowded line-up, but assuming the AMX-30 C2 and the AMX-30 EM2 are given to the french one day it would support them well.
And there's the VBC with same turret for prem. And the time France sent those two to Argentina for trials which they modified a bit which could make further french premiums.

@@Thekilleroftanks Japan gets the M42 duster which is much more capable of shooting down faster aircraft than the AMX-13 DCA 40. The Type 87 also sits at a 8.0 BR while the AMX-30 DCA is higher.
I got interest in French Tech tree when I received the "Hated" EBR. Autoloading was fun with AMX4, 50, Char25, and the AMX-13's. Then the repair costs were jacked to the roof. And to add insult to an injury, they moved SOLID 7.3 tanks to 7.7 where they get wreck 90% of the time by stabilized 8.3 and 8.7 French 6.7 was fun at the beginning of 2021 but now it is a struggle to play because of rampant up-tier Imagine going against thermal sights and mouse guided rockets in a slow 15,000 SL repair cost early 1950's tank
As someone who started with playing japan and moved to france tech tree i have been going at a very upward battle still with mid tier tanks as the repair cost is high enough to where if i get a bad game i have to spend weeks trying to get one 5.3 heavy tank just so i can progress when ive researched almost practically the entire tech tree in advance, playing with friends kinda helps when they got squad sl boosters but i still always feel like im lagging behind because of sl repair costs tanking (both figuratively and litterally) my progress to a snails pace to where now im actively trying to wait for free repairs just so i can get the next tank. Still stuck at 5.3 while my friends are making their way to 6 or 7 br tanks.
You can include most of the arguements in this video for the japan tech tree. Yes, ga*jin shows favour big 3 nations. Alo whenever small trees gets new vehicle, they get nerfed some time later. Because big 3 nations's players has to be satisfied. othervise these good vehicles could be problem for them.

Could you also help the Swedish mains? they are really suffering at the moment with repair costs and certain lineups or planes are basically locked by sl repair costs in excess of 20,000sl without even mentioning the insane repair costs of the iTO-90M and STRV-122's that shouldn't be that high. Has a French main and a real French I thank you for this video. There are so many vehicles that gaijin could add it’s a shame they aren’t doing it. But has you explain it’s just logical and pretty sad
I like french 8.3 a lot, I know no STAB but thermals, laser ranger finders and APFDS is pretty sweet, great mobility too. I just got the BRENUS and its sick as hell, looks cool and the ERA has actually saved me numerous times in 5 games, the missile jammer also has worked once or twice. The lineup actually plays well if you play it like a tank, shooting from ridges and playing more passive. Def not META but you can still have great games with the lineup, But if you get an urban map like cargo you are kinda boned.
As of the recent update, all hope for France to get something decent is faltering fast, still no light vehicles more suited for top tier or mayhaps a spaa below the dca
I think in general war thunder needs to add more actual tanks that were used in the actual war to the game and keep premiums as vehicles that were used as test vehicles like the panzer 2J that had the 80 mm front plate wireless still using a basic panzer 2 gun with a higher penetration value , so I would expect this to add stuff like the sdkfz 222 to Germany along with the panzer 4 105mm sdkfz 231-8, KV 105 mm , the pz ausf D , the kv122 gets moved to main tree as the last researched kv before you start the I.S 1 and 2 research along with adding the kv4 and 5 to the premium tree for Russia and for America adding the ram 3 as a premium adding the M8 Greyhound into the main tree , and etc war thunder has so much more capability but I only see it lasting up to like 5 years more at most because of how old the game is and the fact that gaijin refuses to change some of the coding to make the computer processing unit and graphical processing units be less stressed for console users I already had lost a graphics card to war thunder on my old PS4 so yeah... I think the in general war thunder needs to add more content to the game and it needs to be free researchable content so that way we don't just get new premium vehicles , and it makes the game replayable for old players who have been playing for years , I've been lucky I've been able to play war thunder since ground forces was a thing however I was using a guest account so none of the progress was saved as back then war thunder was mostly just plain focused and tanks were unresearchable and all free I like to watch The mighty jingles play during the time that I'm mentioning because there is a lot of content in war thunder from back then that has changed from now for example all of the FPE drama lol 😂 I feel like they should also add a fun thing where they make a bunch of vehicles on the premium tree but all of these vehicles come in a pack together it's a free pack and all this pack has is infantry carrier vehicles with infantry inside of it that you can deploy however they should make it so that way the pathfinding of the infantry AI only go to the trenches and anti-tank guns placed around the map in fact they should turn that into a completely new game mode where it's a 10 v 10 but includes infantry into the mix which you could take advantage of and actually make historically accurate campaigns based off of world war II which right now to my recollection the only historically accurate campaigns that they have are all plane based missions , I kind of hope part of the dev team sees this and adds content into the game but I know that's highly unlikely lol 😂. I think, as a French player an french main, that the biggest issue is about it being consider a minor nation. Don’t get me wrong, in game it’s one of the least played nation. But that has a lot to do with repair costs. I often play « internationally », meaning with other English speaking people, and they all say they don’t dare to grind the french tech tree. Really bad start, bad economy… But the issue is that in real life, France is one of the 3 or 4 nations that can develop everything they need themself, with the US and Russia (and China maybe). Even Germany still uses lots of US tech, under the OTAN specifications. They have built dozens of tanks prototypes (and more importantly plane) during the Cold War, usually alone, so they could add such a diversity especially to top tier jets which start to become US against USSR. Honestly I think France is a minor nation in game because Gaijing made it so. It was added quite late (that can be understood has it was mainly WW2 focused at the time and well France is lacking there), but they also made incredibly difficult for players to actually play the nation.
Whenever I die to a French Vehicle, I respect them the most, even if I am spouting angry messages about how bs the way I died was. They have so many unique Vehicles that would make Gaijin so much money as a In tech tree vehicle, and yet they refuse to.
I am a french main and I have every thing every Premium tank in the French teck tree, every premium plane, every normal tech tree plane and every normal tank it’s so hard to find it fun and I don’t wanna grind another 4 years to get a whole new tech tree but what I want to see added to the French to tree is boats
A situation not too dissimilar to the issues with the Italian navy, they aren't that important so they're the least prioritized when it comes to getting new ships. It only took Gaijin over half a year to give it a single top tier dreadnought while most other navies by that time had 3-4 and are still receiving new ones.

They were nothing more than export vehiches and to me at least, the people inside the tank matter more than who built it. If it didn't matter than why do german post war jets exist, or any of the lend lease or captured vehicles exist. It just looks like a huge double standard. Sidenote, it is a commonwealt tree as of now because there litterally is an entire south african line and a Canadian version of an an American vehicle.

Friendly fire in sim? That ship has sailed long ago. Either way, I'd prefer smaller countries getting more of their (especially unique) vehicles added to the big 3 getting even more.
I play China, France and Germany primarily. The repair costs between the three are ridiculous. Full 8.0 China team? Cheaper than a single AMX-13 repair bill. Disgusting. It honestly put me off the French line entirely. The recent update really just demonstrated the point - why do the Germans have the AMX-13-105 before the french do? Sure, it's on marder hull, but you get what I mean. Another example - take the P47. Russia has it, China has it, US has it, nearly everyone has it. The Panther? France fielded an entire battalion of them, where is it? Premium. The addition of a panther would really help frances shit mid tier, and would be an eagerly welcomed addition. The whole "oh no another clone" thing is ridiculous, because it only ever comes up when its not a main nation.
Panther ? Mate there's worse. M24 and M36. France accounted for half of the european Chaffees (1250 out of 2700). France had more Chaffees than Japan, Italy and China combined (they all have theirs). Only the US had more Chaffees than France. Where is it ? France bought brand new M36, used them in Indochina and sold them to Taiwan later on. Guess who has the M36 ? China gets it but not France.
There is more than just “France developed the DF105 with Germany”. France dropped out of the program before the program actually ended, leaving Germany to handle the entire project. And while I agree that the DF 105 should also go to France. The argument for it isn’t too good.
Same with the sk105. Just worse because neither Germany or France even touched the design. They used a a turret like the amx 105 design but was their own design and a license built 105. That's all France has connected to the design. Hey developed the gun but didn't sold it to the nation in question.
To be fair france does have quite a lot of pretty good tanks at the mid-high tier area, idk about planes, but with tanks yeah, unlike italy which is bad allthrough with a few exceptions.
I like some Italian tanks. Its not that they are bad but more that they are really average with an occasional good tank or speedy armored car here or there. I like the Italian M47 and Italian pershing which has more pen than the normal m26 and less repair cost. Still don't get that it feels like Gaijin forgot about that one when they were killing the pershing.

To be fair the laser rangefinder is the only advantage it gets over the leopard, it's worse in all other aspects, except for the gun, it's shells have the same pen

Honestly I just want VBL’s. Basically just wheeled Wiesels - a 20mm variant similar to Wiesel 1A4, a Milan carrying variant akin to the Wiesel 1A2, and a Mistral carrying variant equivalent to the Ozelot.
There’s also several AA vehicles they could receive at lower br’s, mainly the AMX-13 chassis with a twin 30mm gun similar to the AMX-30 DCA, but without a radar, so it could fit at 7.0-7.7, giving the extremely good French lineup at 7.7 an actual AA to use
Then you have the completely overdue Mirage F1C
The VBL Mistral isn't remotely equivalent to the Ozelot. It is hand cranked, only has 2 missiles and no thermal camera. The closet equivalents to Ozelot would be the VBR MPCV or the VAB TA20 (with Mistrals pods) or something with a SANTAL turret.
The actual french Wiesel equivalent is the VPX 5000
as a Brit, I see no problem with this.
While I agree that both nations should receive a co-developed vehicle, the reason why Germany gets certain Austrian vehicles is likely because some of the other Austrian tanks could potentially fit there as well in the future, and that Austria was a part of the German Reich, so their history and vehicles are shared.
For example, I could see a Saab 105 being added to the German tree as part of an Austrian "line". Although I doubt it's going to happen since it's also a premium.
Just started the French tree. Tanks so far ( up to 3.3) are fun and the mix of US and UK sprinkled in now helped me start on the UK tree as well. But the planes... I am now using the premium 1.3 D510 as it is simply better than anything I have right now (2.7) the M.S are all just bad as fighters in ground RB, the dive bomber is fine but also lacking and twin bombers/attackers are just not mine.
Atleast at 3.3 I finally get a good plane... a US one. Find the issue.
The thing I find the weirdest is people “main” nations… play them all kids!

I will freely admit that I'm not a very good player, I'm usually in the top 1/4 for my team but win less than half my matches... But all these vehicles with very high repair costs, I can never even break even playing them and I don't get why they try to balance their game that way.
literally even before the update my rule was play the amx m4, if you kill some then you can continue playing if you dont kill ENOUGH then get out of the game becouse is just going to make you lose money due to the amx13 and the char25

There is quite a few vehicles that should be spread out between nations even if they are literal clones. The M113 TOW is an example of this.

@@vikingsoftomorrow4038 the issue is that the lorraine is slightly less mobile than the leopard, has a worse gun (with ammo that is better in a downtier) has worse gun handling, the only thing it has over the leo is a slightly better reload but the trade off for that is it is hilariously easy to ammo rack. And seriously though the gun it has cannot even penetrate many of the 7.7 br heavies it will often face let alone some of the things it gets uptiered to.

@@pietrooliani3251 well I've never tested the torpedo but the platform is nice, 12 HVAR's with three MG 151's, two forward facing and one turret, both with minengeschoss makes it an amazing Heavy fighter even though it's technically a bomber. and to fix the the problem of the guns being far apart I set the convergence to 500.
Edit: also I forgot there are a lot of american naval imports.
@@raptorjesus7273 The british are a hard counter for Jumbos, anything else struggles to hurt you at that BR, even panthers. The Jumbo struggles without parts though, since its more of an attrition tank.
@@wfb.subtraktor311 Yeah, I was also really crippled, cuz I was on the germans side and facing americans. So before the Centurion killed my I had been crippled by an M36 and was having a funeral fire when the brit found me as easy prey.
It's between France and Japan that they really need to flesh out the tank trees. Japan has the same SL problem as France but it starts earlier on and due to lack of tanks the xp grind is basically a war crime from 3.3 onward.
Italy needs a lot of love as well but more twords their airtree.
As a Japan main I'll say that I'm always sad when I see updated with 0 Japanese vehicles. But at least gaijin doesn't exploit us so hard by making all the best vehicles exclusive to premium/events

Honestly like every single other game problem, it would not be a deal breaker if repair costs didn't exist.
I can honestly live with underpowered vehicles, low rewards and broken mechanics, as long as at the end of the day I make progress.
I played elite dangerous entirely on combat when doing so was barely paying for the cost of the ammo I was shooting out, but at least as long as I played correctly and didn't get tunnel vision, I'd always walk out with some sort of progress. War thunder is the opposite. If I play exceedingly well, I walk out with a tiny bit of profit, but playing badly or even just being average nets you a pure loss. Recently this even started being true of premium accounts, which while I never bought premium I was at least always tempted by it. Now I know it's barely useful now that rewards have sunk so much, and I won't feel like playing a game if playing it nets me at an unequivocally worse position than when I started playing it.
Let us also remember the fact that France still has no naval despite historically having one of the most powerful navies since the age of sail...

The FL11 is actually more than capable at that their in the right hands. It's gun is more that potent enough to take on most things, especially once you get M61 APCBC. Yeah, it's elevation is nothing to write home about, but it's in a small, mobile package, making it easy to hide and flank in. I've kill quite a few players in the FL11 from them either not noticing me approach or not seeing where I was, including Tigers.
After all, at the end of the day the AMX-13s are light tanks. You're not meant to be charging in taking fire from the front. You're meant to scout.

I’m a heavy French main myself and one aircraft hat always comes to mind that’ll be perfect for the game currently is the Mirage f1c. People would instantly freak out about it because it’s well a mirage but it’s a lot more of a true interceptor compared to the mirage3 or even the mirage 2000. With planes like the ej kai, viggen and mid roaming around with little competition, I feel like the mirage f1c can potentially balance out he power of top tier currently and will serve as a excellent addition to the French Air tree
I always surprises me that the Mirage F1 has not been added yet. Hopefully it comes early next year before anyone gets a F-16 or MiG-29.
Mirage F1C only carry 4 missiles, 2 magics and 2 R530, it would still suffer imo
They waited so long to add the F1 that it's already obsolete. The Mirage 2000 would probably be a closer match for the current top tiers.

F1C won't balance anything it has no PD radar, it's radar is actually worse than a F4E's but it will get clapped harder than it due to only having 4 missiles.
France's air tree has it even worse than the tanks.
France has one of the two worst top tier planes in game, Mirage IIIE (Alongside the F-104S) even though they have a tonne of potential new vehicles that could make them one of the most competitive air trees in War Thunder.
The Mirage F1 is 4 months late and even if added today would be massively outclassed by the MLD and Viggen. Hell Israel got a better Mirage this patch with the Kfir.
Super Etendard is still missing, Mirage 5 only got added this patch even though it couldve been done alongside the Mirage IIIE.
Kfir is a worse weapon platform than Mirage 3E. It has that juicy flight performance yes but it traded it in expense of the R.530 and R.550 missiles.
Mirage 3E is still going to be fairly fine to play, it's just... not top tier since it lacked that competetive flight performance and more importantly, PD radar. And hisotrically France never yieleded any PD radar until Mirage 2000C.
Germany waited more than a year and received a literal copy of the F4, only with less CAS and A2A payload options and the BIS (another copy that was added an entire year later). Hell, the missiles Germany gets (the most important thing about top tier planes) are worse than the missiles France gets. STOP FUCKING WHINING.
On top of all that, you have to play too many non-domestic vehicles to be able to unlock the final air rank. There was exactly one minor-ish update in which you could jump from early jets to the Mirage without grinding a bunch of American stuff most of us already have. But nope, to get your Mirages you have to research and buy at least two top props and two jets that are boring duplicates of a better tree. I for one would be machoistic enough to grind through a Magister if it meant the mostly foriegn-built lines had something unique.
Another loop of stupidity is "Nobody cares about France, so we won't add much of anything.", which is just a painful spiral for those of us who want to play something outside of the norm.

Your tree literally gets unnecessary additions every single update, while the more relevant producer of military tech, France is left in the lurch. Maybe you should realize how entitled you are, with a tree that is ***GUARANTEED*** to always get new additions every update. Maybe you should realize how many indigenous French weapons are still not usable in their home tree. I'm French and I was really happy to see the French tech tree appear in War Thunder. I precommanded the B1-TER when it came out with my friends.
I loved it and what we had was good ... But only at first.
Then came the long waiting for new vehicles and the mentioned problems with costs.
I literally no longer play the game anymore because grinding the tech tree is just a pain more than a pleasure. I also started grinding the german tech tree and it was quite fine. I could have continued.
War Thunder disgusted me from the vehicles I literally paid thousand to see for real in my country with my friend.
It's odd, it's wrong.
Some are gonna say that France is not the worst, and that I'm just a baby or bad. But no, I can see when I'm making mistakes, and where I can get better. The problem is that I don't pay the same price when I lose my tank than other nations. I literally have to split my time between grinding money and grinding the tree. And I cannot play the tanks I like because I'm losing money by doing so. Even tho I'm not a bad player. Even some of my friends that grinded more tech trees where doing the same, friends I consider far better players than me.
There are holes in the tech tree everywhere so we have to get vehicules from litterally 2 or 3 BR under the main one just to fill the gap.
And when new vehicles we were waiting for AGES finally come out ? Friking event or premium vehicles ... Nothing in the main tree !

The only AMX-30 they wanted to fit with a stab is a premium because they don't recognize an auto-locking system has a stabilizer even tho they don't have the equivalent in the game and that would be the same has a stab in practice (it's supposed to be BETTER than a stab in real life FFS)
There are a lot of light tanks like the ELC variants or all the other variants of AMX-13 and AMX-30. They are nowhere to be found.

As a French Canadian, I feel like France is just there to exist in War Thunder. Which is a shame considering they are the fourth most powerful military IRL and therefore could be considered a major nation.

In my experiences with a premium account, making SL profits in French ground RB 6.7-7.7 is incredibly tedious at best and frustrating to the point of quitting at worst. The new economy changes further exacerbate these issues as passive performance is not rewarded anymore. The methodology and lack of transparency behind repair costs in War Thunder is one of its worst aspects. I really wonder what their player statistics look like on their end to make these sorts of decisions. I think that when they raised the BR of many French vehicles like the AMX-13 and Char 25T, their repair cost should have been lowered to reflect their strengthened opponents. Of course the Leo 1 gets to sit at 7.3 with a 5k repair cost for some reason.

@XxRxX UwU I have 1800 hours and an RB efficiency of 69% on Thunder Skill. My in game performance is usually above the average player, so it is not a skill issue at hand in my opinion. The point I was trying to make is that the methods of calculation for repair cost are inconsistent. Vehicles that exist across multiple trees have wildly differing repair cost. French vehicles are put in a constant feedback loop where only experienced players will regularly play them as only experienced players can do well with them, further driving the repair cost up through an algorithm that Gaijin doesn't show the player base. A fairer system would require manual and more consistent balancing by vehicle type.

Also, yea some maps are bad for some vehicles so you probably shouldn't use them. That's why you get a cooldown on them for leaving, preventing you from useing them in the next match.
My guess is that French mains are more dedicated to the tree and their data might be showing that they can squeeze more money out of them by encouraging them to buy premium and vehicles. Idk how true that is since France is so neglected but I can’t think of why else they would keep making these changes to the French tree.
I'm personally upset about the normal amx 13, it was once a 4k repair now its 10k

As a french player (and person), I think that France is not a bad minor nation when you compare it to other minor like Italy, China, or Sweden

@@withoutstickers the Super Mystere is my favorite jet, and the VB10.02 is the best heavy fighter in its br bracket. The VG-33 has performance comparable to a Bf109-G2 but at 2.7. Most other planes are just copies.

@@withoutstickers eh planes are absolutely fine personally, plenty of choice for a quick bomb run with MD 450s and the Vautours, with the latter being really damn good at bombing, the Super Mystere gets bullpups as well as the Etendard.
Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. I started out mainly playing the USSR, the the US. Recently, because I had been doing a lot of research on French tanks due to an RP server, I ended up really liking them, so I decided to go down France. Getting the EBR was also a reason for grinding it. It was very enjoyable, but I couldn't help but feel that French tanks were just way too high in cost or in BR. Char B1 bis for example. (Iirc, it's like 2.3 or something), gets clobbered pretty easily but still fights F2s. The AMX-30s are also pretty high for just being decent light tanks. The worst offender imo is the Lorraine 40t, which is worse than the Leopard 1 yet sits above it (Leo 1 at 7.3 was great balance wasn't it?). It's slightly slower, has a worse gun (no HEAT or APDS), worse armor, and a higher repair cost. The only thing it has is the autoloader, which yeah it's good, but not *that* good. And the AMX-30 is somehow better than the Leopard besides having a worse gun and shells bc "lmao 20 mil", even though they're honestly equal. It truly sucks ass because French tanks are some of my favorites and I also adore the Mirages (where tf is the Mirage F1?!). Guess this is one of the reasons i started playing less WT.

AMX 30 and Leo 1 are basically the same tank, yet the AMX is 7.7 and the leo 7.3 and the AMX rc is lower, why ??
the AMX 13FL11 was fine at 3.3, it was basically a chaffee without the stab but faster. Now they put the chaffe at 3.7 and the FL11 at 4.0? I mean what?
@@cboisson56 they are not the same tank, they are the results of an aborted common tank project with Germany. But yeah, they are pretty similar in specs (AMX 30 is slightly more armored but has less shell types available). I guess they put it at 7.7 because of the 20 mm gun (that doesn't explain the 10K repair cost though)
AMX-30 was actually introduced as 7.3 and got 7.7 couple of years ago, considering that it performs simmilar to other 7.7. Personally, i consider Leopard being the worst 7.7 MBT, yeah it is fastest of the bunch, but not by much, it doesn't have stabiliser unlike STB, armour is useless(not that others are really armoured, but sometimes it helps, unlike leo), doesn't have high caliber MG (20mm cannon is useful because it easily destroy tracks and especially cannons), scope zoom sucks. I don't think it needed to be 7.3 (maybe it should, but 6.3 suffer), but it doesn't really perform as it's brothers.
The French AA gap is awful from the amx 13 to the amx 30. The amx 13 is miles out of its depth by their strong 7.3 and 7.7 lineups. France are crying out for a 7.3 AA. Surely a non radar amx 30 is a simple option? I don’t know enough about French vehicle history to suggest specific vehicles but they need one badly. I’m sure forum posts have been made to gaijin already with good options
The AMX-10P could be use as an AA, it's an IFV with a 20mm gun
There are some other AMX13 dca stuff but with 4 20mm auto canon that could be added. Also did I mention that DCA also add an oscillating turret ?

there exists many french AA tanks or vehicles with 15-20-30-40mm guns, radar or not, if gaijin gave france all its vehicles that existed, for the whole tech tree it would rival the US's, except for the WW2 era for reasons
edit: heck they even had an AA truck carrying a 75mm gun in WW1 (though its unsure if a variant carrying its own ammo existed, they usually had another truck carrying it)

You know when i was looking for a new tech tree to grind i was really interested in france because i liked how cool the oscillating turrets looked...until i saw the ridiculous repair costs and low sl multiplier. Im fairly convinced that to play france, premium isnt just recommended, its a requirement.

it's not a requirement, but you do need to be a good player (actually good, not just above average) and perform well consistently to gain a reasonable amount of SL overtime... which of course if you played a more forgiving tree you would be swimming in SL following the same logic comparativelly but that's just how it goes for France: you must accept pain.
Amx 13 was my crush until I unlocked it and realised only then a fucking 10k repair cost that was uncalled for, I honestly want a shit ton of German players to start playing France just so repair cost drops

As a French main and also a French passionate in history. An other thing is that French tanks are not realists. The EBR 1963 war in reality produced in 1964. Many mechanics as retractable wheels are not here while they are on other tanks. Some of equipment and stuff are not available (even in some old tanks) and it give to the player a feeling of injustice, that the dev didn't search enough about French tank technology and stuff.
I love the new Leclerc cuz it means I need to use fewer backups on the S1 and S2, but the fact that all 3 useful top tier tanks use the same SP pool means that for 3 spawns I can look at upwards of 1000-1200 SP, while in other nations I could spawn an MBT, light tank, and TD for about 400 SP, or 2 of each for the same 1200 SP (double the amount of spawns of France). France desperately needs more of a mix at top tier, and if they filled out the massive holes in the tree with top tier lights, and had a slightly better low-tier experience, France could easily become a 4th favourite nation.
British doesnt have usable TD or light too. They have just more MBTs
@@muffin_the_great Britain has 3 stabilized Rooikats (2 TT, 1 prem) between 8.3-8.7 and the VFM5 at 9.3. Thats already +3 for stabilized light tanks over the French, all of which I can use effectively right through to 10.0 with the challengers.
Brits also have stabilized 8.3-9.0 Chieftains/Olifant, the 9.7 & 10.0 Challengers, the TTD, and 3 Chally 2 versions, not to mention the ADATS as a TD/AA.
Britain is looking downright glamorous compared to France at top tier, with the only other stabilized "top tier" tank the french get besides the leclerc being the AMX-40 at 9.7. Oh and don't forget the ITO90M which costs 20,000 SL to spawn and die because its the size of a fuckin bus, while having no ability to defend itself from tanks.

@@muffin_the_great The fact you have ANY stabilized tanks prior to 9.3 means that you're ahead of France, and believe me i've seen rooikats do just fine at 11.0 with the speed they have. Most nations are lacking top tier lights, even Germany has 9.7 as their highest light tank in the TAM2C, with russia only getting top tier lights the past 2 updates.
While Britain's lights are nothing like those of Sweden, America, or even Russia's 2S25M SPRUT, just be glad you have ANY light tanks above 8.0.
As for ADATS, the fact you have ANYTHING besides an MBT that can kill tanks is, once again, a +1 for France. Plus, its an AA that doesn't have ridiculous repair cost, meaning you can spawn it while not worrying about losing 20,000 SL.
Trust me, as someone who plays America, Britain, Sweden, France, and Russia, France is the nation which suffers most from lineups above 8.3, as it has a massive jump from the AMX30s at 8.3, to AMX32 and AMX40 at 9.3/9.7. This is a full jump of 2.7 BRs (8.3-11.0) which has only TWO (2) MBTs in it. You cannot complain about how Britain has only 3 lights on a conversation about France which has a grand total of ZERO.

One has to wonder how many people don't play France literally because they see it very rarely getting meaningful additions (Mirage 5 I'm pretty sure is a pity addition from the Israeli one and the new Leclerc doesn't even have the advertised improved protection).
For the VBCI 2, I remember seeing images of one with a HITFIST 30 weapon system, and the mention of MMPs for the 'normal' turret.
HITFIST only had the gun and the normal T40 turret indeed has MMP pods. Though for IFV I would like the see the AMC 6X6 first
Most of the actual French (as in stuff that isn’t a lend lease copy paste) rank 1-4 planes are generally mediocre at best, I once considered grinding french planes just to get the mirage IIIC, but that pretty much went out of the window now that Israeli air tree got added with better mirages.

I started this game with playing France. Iam blown away by their designs, I have books about each vehicles etc. But in WT its just pain and disappointment... They just don't care about french BIG and interesting military designs :(
What I love most about the french tech tree is how a lot of the vehicles just have no counter part in other nations.
They have such unique designs that its arguably one of the trees I have the most fun with.

I agree on the point that France have much more vehicule than many other nation in the game for the top tier mainly, but whether you like it or not its just historical.
The French defense industry has always produced and designed vehicles whether they are prototype or put into service.
Many other nation are also minored (especially for top tier ) like China and Italy, they have many tank to had and IFV to add in the game.
But this kind of problem is an exact reflection of Gaijin's trade policy.
Many vehicles would not require a monster amount of work to be added whether it is among the French or in other nations!
All the more so when certain turret or chassis models are already present in the game.

I'm a bit of a sucker for unconventional tanks, so France is one my favorites for how often they tried to innovate and came up with interesting designs.

First, we had to suffer with rank 1 reserves (which can be fairly good if played “right”). Then, we had to suffer with the insane repair costs (but highly overpowered) auto loader tanks. And now, we suffer with a lack of vehicles to fill in the gaps of the tree.

And you didn't mention the ERC 90, which saw widespread use, it's not terribly unique, but it is necessary. Also the AMX 13 105, which is the turret on that new German thing.
Also an egregious mistake is the lack of sideskirts on the AMX30B2, which it was equipped with in its only combat service.
And yet another big mistake is the lack of ground attack payloads on the French F100D, which France exclusively used as a bomber...
Much of this comes down to a lack of research, and difficulty researching, in France.

No they outright nerf the vehicle. The IV-M got its gun removed when QGm s are equipped because Gaijin had the manual. But they completely ignore the entire chapter about its radar for mysterious reasons. And its not difficult to read it says radar outright and even has a nice drawing about its range on different targets.
I love playing French but can't because playing any higher than 3.7 is impossible for me as it requires that i make atleast 6-7 kills a game to just break even, they really need to unfuck them especially 5.3

I just returned to the game after taking several months to play other things and get away from the toxicity of gaijiggles and the player base. Upon returning, I am having a refresher course on every reason I got tired of it, and some new and returning bugs just to spice it up. Gaijumbawumba really is the worst dev. So many things need fixing, major problems.

If you think Gaijin is the worst dev, then you clearly haven't heard of DICE, Activision, WarGaming, Blizzard (guess that's just an extentsion of Activision tho), EA (Not sure if they are just publishers or if the actually do Dev as well). Hey Spook, here are some more ideas to add more flavour to the French Ground tech-tree :
As for SPAA, two come to my mind French AMX-13 with the turret of the AMX-30 DCA, and an AMX-12 or 13 with 4 Mg151 but no radar.
There is a variant of the Vextra, the Vextra with the 120mm "FER" : Faible Effort de Recul, so a low recoil 120mm similar to the one of the Leclerc this variant was built and tested, but never in large numbers and never used or made ready for export (as opposed to the Vextra which was fully completed and operational).
For light tanks French has dozen of prototypes but also some more that can easily be implemented the ELC and its variants, the ERC-90 Sagaie, and the VBC 90 and VCS 90. There is also the AMX-10P, similar to the Marder, but with a rear mounted ATGM.
As for tanks it's hard to find very modern top tier MBT for France except the "Tropicalized variant of the Leclerc for the EAU", although since Gaijin likes to add prototypes of the Leopard 2, they could add some prototype for the Leclerc : the EPC, it would bridge a gap between the AMX-40 and the first Leclerc.
Moreover for tanks, there are still variants of the AMX-50 and the AMX-30 that are not in the game, although they would not change much. For instance the variants of the AMX-30 made for Spain, the AMX-30E that includes several upgrades and so on.
Another "medium" that France could use is the M-47, France used it for quite some time in the early cold war before they develop the AMX-30, and they also tested the gun of the AMX-30 on a M-47, would be a cool event vehicle or premium.
If people like fast things with 20mm there is a VBL and a VAB with one of these, and dozens of VAB variants for whatever missile you like, Hot, Milan, Crotales and so on.
That's all that come to my mind, but I believe there are dozens more in the Suggestions of the Warthunder forum.

For marder like stuff I would use the AML Ecalairge instead. At least the ATGM is forward facing. Or the AMC 6X6. Which is bigger. With a 30mm and HOTs. Stanilized and thermals. Good vehicle.

When I saw the title I immediately thought of the AMX-30 SUPER case, where it’s the only tank with a dual-plane stabiliser at its BR for France and it’s a premium, this was probably done to force players to spend money to get it to have a somewhat bearable experience playing France.
It's not like theres 4 more AMX 30 and 2 more AMX 32 with 105mm guns all with and stab that could be added with minor reskins . Oh no let's add another T72 subvariant where the ERA was randomly shuffled by Ivan when drunk.

An other big problem with french tanks is the gearbox. Mainly for cold war vehicules, horsepower are at much more rpm than other nations. However if in reality people will just keep it at a low gear to have all the power available, in war thunder you switch every gear when you're near 2000rpm or less while the best power is at 3200rpm or more. So for a nation who bet a lot on speed acceleration and manuverability, this is a big problem.

Imo Gaijin really sleeps on the French tech tree. France had one of the largest militaries in Europe, yet they get treated as a minor nation. If Gaijin would actually put in the effort, people would play that tree more often and make them money. They just aren't willing to put in the risk and people call them out for it. And it's not like they don't have the resources for it, judging by the addition of the Israeli tech tree and the Sk-105
France sure lack a lot of vehicle in the ground tree but where it s shown the most is the air tree. It s been 2 years since the F-4E has been introduced and 1 for the MiG-23 yet France has to receive it s Mirage F1 when it could already receive the early variants of the Mirage 2000C and still be in the meta. And I m not going to talk about the Mirages FM still being bad and way underperforming.
However, another problem is how Gaijin treat the french community. I can understand they don’t want to make certain vehicle of the french TT their priority but lying to the community is a big red line that already has been crossed. The main example being gaijin saying they can’t make the Mirage III as their engine couldn’t handle tailless delta wing and announcing the Draken less than a week after.
More recently, their way to handle the ground TT has been pretty poor too, with them saying they want to choose only one support vehicle to add despite other nation getting them alll little by little and even some nations like Germany needing prototypes to keep the flow steady.
It lead to a downward spirale where they kind of miss treat the TT, making less player play it, making less money, making them less wanting to add stuff.
It has come to a point where Israel has better french vehicle than France itself.
I think Italy has the same problem

I love playing france, as it's the most interesting tech tree in the game. Unfortunately, I'm not really good at the game, and find 7.7 (my highest BR) quite a pain to play, especially since the AMX 30, as the first propper MBT in the tree, lacks a stabiliser. Which makes uptiers especially painfull.

And France is probably one of the nations that suffers most from BR compression, as even the AMX 50 Surbaissé, which is classified as a heavy tank, is easily killed by most tanks it can face, even in down tiers.

Looks at the French NC 900 (It's a Fw 190 A-8), despite it being a premium event vehicle, it's repair cost is 2.5x high than the German Fw 190 A-8.
To b fair for the DF-105, the French only supplied a turret from what I know. Especially considering the amount of work Germany developed for the DF. I think this case, the tank fell under: "Which nation supplied the most amount of R&D as well as who supplied the most components." Especially considering the DF-105 was made to be an export tank, rather than a domestic military service vehicle.
Well technically you could say Germany only supplied the hull.
Also France brought their own optical systems, which was one of the reason Gaijing originally wanted the sk105 to be German.
In reality the fire control system was also French. One could argue that the most important thing to look at is the gun, as the marder hull alone would not do much.
France also only blasted the rocket shit on the Finnish ITO 90M but they still got it

Actually Gaijing could not really do anything about that, as the ITO is the only Crotale system that was made on a single vehicle system.
The French Army only has a 2 vehicles system, one dedicated for the radar and the other holding all the missiles. That means that in real life the french system is much more precise and have loads of missiles stored, but it can’t really be implemented as it is in the game. So the ITO makes sense.
When you think about that, France is already supplying a total of 4 nations including itself with AA systems : Germany US and Swedish tech trees

This is way too true for me. I started playing warthunder under america where the vehicles were good, but just lacked character. Which drove me to france, which I love more than any other nation ive touched. I can consistently get 7+ K/D games at 5.3-11.0 because of how much time I've sunk into learning and playing the vehicles. Everytime an update rolls out i hope and pray for a french vehicle, but it almost never happens, nothing too interesting anyways. Even after the economy changes that made french vehicles cheaper, its not by much. You barely break even, even if you play well.

I can't recommend more people play the ARL44 (ACL-1) enough. Even more so if you're trying too grind France, you'll get a lot of bounces, I call it the low teir jumbo.

As stabilized support vehicle there is also the ERC Saguaie (1 or 2, 2 has thermals and better hp/t) with the TTB 190 by SAMM. The gun is the same as the MARS 15 so it would fit with the AMX-30 B, an already overcrowded line-up, but assuming the AMX-30 C2 and the AMX-30 EM2 are given to the french one day it would support them well.
And there's the VBC with same turret for prem. And the time France sent those two to Argentina for trials which they modified a bit which could make further french premiums.

The one thing that france is lacking is an aa between 4.3 and 8.3. Being stuck at 7.3 currently with an AA 3 BRs lower is agony.

@@Thekilleroftanks Japan gets the M42 duster which is much more capable of shooting down faster aircraft than the AMX-13 DCA 40. The Type 87 also sits at a 8.0 BR while the AMX-30 DCA is higher.
I got interest in French Tech tree when I received the "Hated" EBR. Autoloading was fun with AMX4, 50, Char25, and the AMX-13's.
Then the repair costs were jacked to the roof. And to add insult to an injury, they moved SOLID 7.3 tanks to 7.7 where they get wreck 90% of the time by stabilized 8.3 and 8.7
French 6.7 was fun at the beginning of 2021 but now it is a struggle to play because of rampant up-tier

As someone who started with playing japan and moved to france tech tree i have been going at a very upward battle still with mid tier tanks as the repair cost is high enough to where if i get a bad game i have to spend weeks trying to get one 5.3 heavy tank just so i can progress when ive researched almost practically the entire tech tree in advance, playing with friends kinda helps when they got squad sl boosters but i still always feel like im lagging behind because of sl repair costs tanking (both figuratively and litterally) my progress to a snails pace to where now im actively trying to wait for free repairs just so i can get the next tank. Still stuck at 5.3 while my friends are making their way to 6 or 7 br tanks.
You can include most of the arguements in this video for the japan tech tree. Yes, ga*jin shows favour big 3 nations. Alo whenever small trees gets new vehicle, they get nerfed some time later. Because big 3 nations's players has to be satisfied. othervise these good vehicles could be problem for them.

Could you also help the Swedish mains? they are really suffering at the moment with repair costs and certain lineups or planes are basically locked by sl repair costs in excess of 20,000sl without even mentioning the insane repair costs of the iTO-90M and STRV-122's that shouldn't be that high. I like french 8.3 a lot, I know no STAB but thermals, laser ranger finders and APFDS is pretty sweet, great mobility too. I just got the BRENUS and its sick as hell, looks cool and the ERA has actually saved me numerous times in 5 games, the missile jammer also has worked once or twice. The lineup actually plays well if you play it like a tank, shooting from ridges and playing more passive. Def not META but you can still have great games with the lineup, But if you get an urban map like cargo you are kinda boned.
yeah it's a lot of fun if you get on big maps with sniper spots you can do so much and I especially love red desert

I think in general war thunder needs to add more actual tanks that were used in the actual war to the game and keep premiums as vehicles that were used as test vehicles like the panzer 2J that had the 80 mm front plate wireless still using a basic panzer 2 gun with a higher penetration value , so I would expect this to add stuff like the sdkfz 222 to Germany along with the panzer 4 105mm sdkfz 231-8, KV 105 mm , the pz ausf D , the kv122 gets moved to main tree as the last researched kv before you start the I.S 1 and 2 research along with adding the kv4 and 5 to the premium tree for Russia and for America adding the ram 3 as a premium adding the M8 Greyhound into the main tree , and etc war thunder has so much more capability but I only see it lasting up to like 5 years more at most because of how old the game is and the fact that gaijin refuses to change some of the coding to make the computer processing unit and graphical processing units be less stressed for console users I already had lost a graphics card to war thunder on my old PS4 so yeah... I think the in general war thunder needs to add more content to the game and it needs to be free researchable content so that way we don't just get new premium vehicles , and it makes the game replayable for old players who have been playing for years , I've been lucky I've been able to play war thunder since ground forces was a thing however I was using a guest account so none of the progress was saved as back then war thunder was mostly just plain focused and tanks were unresearchable and all free I like to watch The mighty jingles play during the time that I'm mentioning because there is a lot of content in war thunder from back then that has changed from now for example all of the FPE drama lol 😂 I feel like they should also add a fun thing where they make a bunch of vehicles on the premium tree but all of these vehicles come in a pack together it's a free pack and all this pack has is infantry carrier vehicles with infantry inside of it that you can deploy however they should make it so that way the pathfinding of the infantry AI only go to the trenches and anti-tank guns placed around the map in fact they should turn that into a completely new game mode where it's a 10 v 10 but includes infantry into the mix which you could take advantage of and actually make historically accurate campaigns based off of world war II which right now to my recollection the only historically accurate campaigns that they have are all plane based missions , I kind of hope part of the dev team sees this and adds content into the game but I know that's highly unlikely lol 😂. I think, as a French player an french main, that the biggest issue is about it being consider a minor nation. Don’t get me wrong, in game it’s one of the least played nation. But that has a lot to do with repair costs. I often play « internationally », meaning with other English speaking people, and they all say they don’t dare to grind the french tech tree. Really bad start, bad economy…
But the issue is that in real life, France is one of the 3 or 4 nations that can develop everything they need themself, with the US and Russia (and China maybe). Even Germany still uses lots of US tech, under the OTAN specifications. They have built dozens of tanks prototypes (and more importantly plane) during the Cold War, usually alone, so they could add such a diversity especially to top tier jets which start to become US against USSR.
Honestly I think France is a minor nation in game because Gaijing made it so. It was added quite late (that can be understood has it was mainly WW2 focused at the time and well France is lacking there), but they also made incredibly difficult for players to actually play the nation.

I am a french main and I have every thing every Premium tank in the French teck tree, every premium plane, every normal tech tree plane and every normal tank it’s so hard to find it fun and I don’t wanna grind another 4 years to get a whole new tech tree but what I want to see added to the French to tree is boats
A situation not too dissimilar to the issues with the Italian navy, they aren't that important so they're the least prioritized when it comes to getting new ships. It only took Gaijin over half a year to give it a single top tier dreadnought while most other navies by that time had 3-4 and are still receiving new ones.

I play China, France and Germany primarily. The repair costs between the three are ridiculous. Full 8.0 China team? Cheaper than a single AMX-13 repair bill. Disgusting. It honestly put me off the French line entirely. The recent update really just demonstrated the point - why do the Germans have the AMX-13-105 before the french do? Sure, it's on marder hull, but you get what I mean.
Another example - take the P47. Russia has it, China has it, US has it, nearly everyone has it. The Panther? France fielded an entire battalion of them, where is it? Premium. The addition of a panther would really help frances shit mid tier, and would be an eagerly welcomed addition. The whole "oh no another clone" thing is ridiculous, because it only ever comes up when its not a main nation.

France accounted for half of the european Chaffees (1250 out of 2700). France had more Chaffees than Japan, Italy and China combined (they all have theirs). Only the US had more Chaffees than France. Where is it ?
France bought brand new M36, used them in Indochina and sold them to Taiwan later on. Guess who has the M36 ? China gets it but not France.

There is more than just “France developed the DF105 with Germany”. France dropped out of the program before the program actually ended, leaving Germany to handle the entire project. And while I agree that the DF 105 should also go to France. The argument for it isn’t too good.

They used a a turret like the amx 105 design but was their own design and a license built 105. That's all France has connected to the design. Hey developed the gun but didn't sold it to the nation in question.

To be fair france does have quite a lot of pretty good tanks at the mid-high tier area, idk about planes, but with tanks yeah, unlike italy which is bad allthrough with a few exceptions.
I like some Italian tanks. Its not that they are bad but more that they are really average with an occasional good tank or speedy armored car here or there. I like the Italian M47 and Italian pershing which has more pen than the normal m26 and less repair cost. Still don't get that it feels like Gaijin forgot about that one when they were killing the pershing.
