Is this a fishing video or just you talking and posting your line breaking for well over half of the duration ?
I have a house boat here and I love it there is the biggest Muskie there I all ways go to marina and get ice cream
Medium sized onion lop the ends... skin it til clean & put it in the oil before frying fish.
This keeps the oil from burnin' as the onion absorbs the too hot burn. It'll blacken but the oil wont burn or the fish.
This is a secret that i pumped out of my favorite Cajun chefess...the Queen of The Universe...none other than mean jillene.
It is best to trow out dat injun da next day yeah😂
Nice catch and cook. Good looking walleye.
Thanks!
Hi Matt great show I have been to Shelbeyville spillway 3 times in my life never catch anything down there lol . I do believe your right bluegill is probably the best 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks, Dan! Yeah they're pretty good, just lots of work to fillet a bunch of them.
I went today and caught my pb bass 6 1/2 pounds
Was there today (drove an hour to get there). A few bites (a couple right by where you were fishing here) but no catches. Well, I snagged a shad. Lost a couple of lures. The water was pouring through the gates and it was really windy, so it was tough fishing. Saw a walleye, gar, and a couple of big catfish caught, though. I've had luck there before, but it's pretty hit or miss for me. Saw some pelicans, eagles, and kingfishers, and it was sunny, so not a bad day. Still wish I'd had something to show for the drive, though :D
Yeah it can be pretty hit or miss. Always nice to have at least 1 for the drive. I appreciate the comment!
cool video buddy 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Next time you cook one, try looking up walleye wings. You cut out the pectoral fins and there’s a good amount of meat that a lot of people waste!
I'll do that, thanks for watching!
I've fished that spillway (it has been 15 years at least) and there weren't any Asian carp at that time, but they weren't really anywhere back then..I had very little luck there but I know now a lot that I didn't know then. There were great numbers of white bass when I was there, caught on a small blade bait, and I caught smallmouth Buffalo as well. And the walleye is a great fish to eat, hope that it's a good experience for you.
It was good. Thanks for watching!
Great video as usual. I fished there one time and caught a 5lbs Flathead, just a little further down.
Thank you! And nice! I've still never caught a flathead 😢
@@EngineeringHooksets you keep fishing those spillways, I’m sure you will hook into one
been fishing there for a while havent caught a walleye out of there congrats buddy
It feels good to get one after sticking it out like that! Nice one!
Thanks, man! Btw- I noticed you also took a month off. Did you have as bad of a (fishing) March as I did? 😅
@@EngineeringHooksets Ya it hasn't been great here. The lakes have been ice on ice off several times and the rivers have been chocolate milk and high. Whenever I take a break I realize how great it is to not have to publish videos and I seriously contemplate a much longer break.
@Backroads Angling yeah I get that, editing is a real pain. You make great videos tho, a lot of people would be sad to see you quit.
1/4 oz bucktails and paddle tails is what I use for em down there… never caught Asian carp there nor seen them jump but I have caught a 30+ Buffalo that ate a twister tail !
Thats a huge buffallo! Nice!
Nice one man!
Thanks man!
Nice one!
Thanks, man!
Now that is a spillway! I had to try those flatworms, because they were always sold out. They work, but the hype may be a bit inflated. I am not a huge believer in scent. Nice walleye, dude.
Yeah I don't think scent makes any difference in fast moving water. Just figured why not. Thanks for watching, man!
Hell yeah this is the lake shelbyville dam there is musky there also
That’s all I catch at that spillway carp everywhere
What kind of carp? Buffalo carp or invasive silver carp?
Buffalo
Try breading it with frying magic or Andy’s yellow side by side sometime for any freshwater fish. I prefer it over batter typical. I mix 50/50 egg yolk and milk and dip it in that before rolling it in the breading and dropping it in 350 oil to golden brown. 10/10
I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks for the tip!
I also whatch the fire works
Tail end the kaskakia river wow 😲 fish that portion smallies largemouth crappie huge flathead and nice channels . It's the real deal
Yes my buddy caught an Asian carp ath the spillway
Nice video babe!
😊
Cool video, sweet spillway. I find your approach to these spillways super interesting, just straight up saying where you are at is something different for sure.
Also with the musky thing, it’s better to just run a leader. The musky don’t care, they will bite through braid probably easier than flouro tbh.
This spot is super well known and busy, I don't think I'm adding any pressure by saying the name. Also yeah musky were kind of an afterthought. I just figured a walleye wouldn't mind the difference between 15lb braid and 50lb braid so might as well use 50 in the small chance I got a musky to bite. Thanks for watching, man!
@@EngineeringHooksets walleye looked good, tbh, I prefer pike over walleye lol.
Hey man I live in Bloomington let me know if you want to come fish my neighborhood pond it’s fire for large mouth bass.. you could get a PB this spring easily
Hey man I’m in Peoria and always looking for extra spots without a 1plus hour drive. Is it private? Have you ever tried a white zoom trick worm? They are the bomb in spots like that. If you want to go catch some I’ll bring the trick worms and hooks. I usually have the most luck with them mid spring-mid fall. Non stop action on the LMB!
Hey man, I appreciate the offer! I'm not really too big on private ponds at the moment. I've been really into public rivers/spillways with big species diversity lately.
Pike is the best fresh water , u should have casted where the birds were nice catch
I've been there a few times there's gotta be thousands of dollars worth of tackle at the bottom of that river i know i lost a lot
There's probably thousands of dollars of tackle just on that 1 cable that hangs over the river, haha
There a tones of carp there
Ya theres carp there
Braid is super abrasion resistant? Compared to what?
Mono. Is it not? I've always had issues with mono/fluoro fraying when I fish rocky rivers. When I use braid it lasts forever and I rarely need to re-tie
The rip rap at that spillway is horrible. It’s like a Bermuda Triangle for expensive lures.
😂
Friend, I live in Effingham, what place do you recommend to get good fish?
There shouldn't be silver carp or bighead carp up there, as they cannot get past the spillway at Carlyle.
You should see common carp and grass carp there, though.
Thanks for the info! Hopefully they dont find their way through a flooded creek or something
Take the front treble off of that crankbait, and drastically reduce your chance of snagging up.
I don't feel like it reduces my hookup rate when river fishing at all.
That front treble is trouble.
You mean on the blade bait? I catch probably 2/3 of my crankbait fish on the front treble. Predator fish inhale bait head first when possible so I think it makes sense. If anything I would swap the front treble for a double hook with the points facing up.
I get those carp every trip bro 😎 I’m down there almost every weekend and I have started my own channel now so maybe we can get together sometime and do some hog hunting
Do you get silver carp or buffalo carp? I know there are a lot of buffalo carp down there but I've never heard of silvers being caught. Nice, good luck with the channel! Idk when I'll be back there but if you see me definitely say hi.
@@EngineeringHooksets I catch and snag those big Asian carp and buffaloes every trip down there bro even if I am using a single hook bait like jigs, but I love the channel and keep making them videos
How is this area ? I was thinking of renting a house in the area for Memorial Day weekend ?
Shelbyville is pretty solid. Nice small town
Dropshot, lol
hay im from ny living i texas i will be in Illinois for work would you like to go fishing
I appreciate the offer but I live in Tennessee lol
