  • This is part two of a deeper dive into what I consider Dave Smith's coolest synthesizer: The Polyevolver keyboard. I make a few patches then demonstrate some factory patches as well as some from Metric.
I'm lucky enough to not only own this Synth, but own one that used to belong to one of my favourite bands of the last two decades: Metric. If you don't know them and like Synth music, you should really check them out: @metricmusic .
I also have a Polyevolver rack, which is connected to provide 8 note polyphony.

19:55 hey whenever you modulate delay time (or envelope times) a positive value actually decreases the time. So if you want to have envelope 3 make your delay time longer, you would need to have a negative value for your modulation. You could either directly set envelope 3 to a negative value, or assign envelope 3 to one of your delay times with a negative amount in the mod matrix. It’s a little counterintuitive, and one of the many things that isn’t mentioned in the manual.
This is easiest to hear when your delay times are longer like in the 135-150 range. If you modulate your delay times here (with a positive value) you can hear how the delays get shorter, and a little glitchy.
Thanks for uploading.I really liked that sound at 37:05. Could you please talk more about combo mode in the next video? I wanna know if it’s possible to have 4 completely independent patches running at once. I have multiple desktop evolvers but never used the polyevolver. I heard it only has “one master clock,” and you can’t for example have multiple parts that all use the clock mod feature. Can you have a combo where 1 part is running a sequence at 100 bpm and 1 part is 200bpm?
Also you said turning a knob in combo mode affects all 4 parts. Sometimes this might not be desirable so can you set it up to only adjust 1 or some of the parts?

I'm not sure if I'll do another PE video, but I think you can sort of what your asking. There is only one BPM for the synth, but each patch has a mulitplier where the BPM could equal 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 note, etc. So you could have one patch on 8th and another on 1/4 for twice the percieved speeds.
Turning a knob in combo mode only affects all 4 parts when you hit the combo button. After that you can also select individual parts to edit with knobs, but I don't think you could do 2 at once. Either 1 or all 4.
