Excellent episode once again! Duck's reaction to his absence in the HiT era is very much how I imagine he would've reacted, though I can imagine he would've been happy when he appeared in the Navigation music video, and then some episodes in Season 12 before he returned properly in Season 17. Though I think he should at least be thankful that they didn't ruin his character as a result lol. Plus I loved how City of Truro was included, and SteamTeam3211 did an excellent job voicing him. Another new favourite episode of mine!
Thanks! I'm sure he would be at least pleased to be in one music video, and maybe when he eventually finds out the real reason why he was excluded from the show for a few years, he probably would've softened his opinion knowing how the HiT era is w/ some of the portrayals of nearly all the engines.
Amazing work! I can really see how sad Duck is for not being in the HIT era. It's also incredible to see City Of Truro visiting Sodor again to see him. And thanks for having me as the voice of Mike. Hope to voice him again and I also hope to voice more characters in your series.
This reminds me a teeny bit of a story by Kiefer Adams. Duck's not the only one disturbed by the lack of attention to engines like him in the later series. As a 90's kid, I grew up knowing just about every engine on the island, and it seems like an injustice to see most excluded in favor of the Steam Team. Good thing we have fan fiction and art to "correct this little egregious oversight", if I might borrow a quote from Hades. 😉 "Moping club". They have _those_ now? 😆 Glad to hear some music from the Old Bean. 😁👍
Another banger. I always wondered what Duck’s reaction to not being in part of the TV series might be. It was also nice to see another celebrity. Come to think of it, I don’t think there was ever any information about the engines’ thoughts on the TV series from either Awdry, so this was a nice treat.
I’m terribly sorry for this late comment but amazing work!! I loved how you expanded Duck and Truro’s dynamic. Although it wasn’t in Gordon and the Famous Visitor, it was established in Domeless engines. The plot of having the TV series exist in here is clever and I’d imagine what Duck and other characters would react if they weren’t seen in those HIT seasons.
Thanks. I wasn't sure how I was able to pull this off cause the engines' thoughts about the TVS are sometimes brought up in a few fan-stories (like WildNorWester's "Ode to George Carlin" from Sodor the Modern Years for example), but those were just minor. The only time it was mentioned once in the RWS was Great Railway Show (and I don't consider the indirect reference by Bert in S20 cause I think he was just referring to live TV like the BBC given the time period Tit for Tat was set).
I really liked the episode. I'm thinking of how Skarloey would have reacted if he saw his portraying in the HiT era when Skarloey The Brave first came out.
I can bet all 5 of the Narrow-Gauge engines would've been infuriated at their portrayals. Duncan however would've actually enjoyed how the events of his adventures played out almost exactly how they were in the mid-70s in my canon (even if he wouldn't admit it cause that's Duncan we're talking about). Speaking of which, in my canon - just like the Awdrys, even Britt Allcroft, David Mitton and even Phil Fehrle would come to the Island of Sodor to see the engines and they would tell them about the other adventures that weren't featured in the books (most notably 1966 and the early 70s), and they would take accurate notes to ensure they stay that way (even if S6 and 7 had a few stories that were only made for TV). It was only S8 onwards where the new executives and writers took notes from the Sodor Archives that are the same events as they were from before, but took creative liberties to some stories for better or for worse.
@@TrainsAreReallyCoolWOT DID U DO!?!? Winwatch98 made a video about that once last year. I would like to imagine the HIT Era Skarloey episodes taking place during Skarloey and Rheneas' first years on Sodor.
Can imagine the majority of engines would be disappointed with their portrayals in the show post-TATMR with examples being Edward Henry Percy Toby Skarloey and Rheneas though Thomas Gordon and James would love how they’re big focuses in the show
A great episode with a great message!😄 Now, while I think that the HiT-Era is overhated and underrated (And I consider it my 2nd favourite era), I will admit that I was a little bummed out that Duck wasn't in S8-11. He is my 2nd favourite character. 4:36 Duck: Well, apart from that Magic Railway movie scenario that doesn't make any logical real sense. Me: Hey, it wasn't the film's fault, Duck. Blame that wretched test audience! (Note: For the record I absolutely love TATMR, but I respect other people's opinions). It was nice to see City of Truno! And it was quite a surprise to hear SteamTeam3211!😃
Thomas & the Magic Railroad is my all-time favorite movie and always have been - though it's not specifically canon to my series given that it's a mix between TV and RWS universes. However, I do consider it canon to the original Classic Series and Shining Time Station (as Britt Allcroft puts it based on that piece of trivia from the premiere of An Unlikely Fandom) despite numerous canons and opinions regarding the movie's placement. Speaking of which, also in my canon - the engines would not know what STS is when seeing TATMRR due to the show not aired in the UK or Sodor obviously (and their opinions on the film ranged from sour to okay to decent), that is until the late 2000s when they were shown the episodes of said-show via their drivers or passengers' laptops or phones now that the internet is becoming a popular trend and it all made sense to them of what Shining Time is. They even began to appreciate the show for bringing their popularity to the States as well (I find it weird between NWR1991's timeline vids and NWR Flashbacks in how he retconned the events of the engines not knowing STS and how they know, so I didn't watch Magic Man b/c of it).
I would imagine that the Arlesdale engines (as well as the Culdee Fell engines) would at least understand why they were absent from the (model) series, since making functional engines that small would have been damn near impossible! The model makers had enough trouble as it was with the narrow gauge engines.
I'm sure with time, they'll definitely understand (some anyway - I think Mike would've enjoyed the CGI Series though given how their stories are finally adapted for the small screen. Though others like Patrick would've still been upset about not getting more recognition and appreciation - especially since their only starring appearance was in Mountain Engines).
@@Jetthehawk1994 Ah, you mean the music exactly. Well, it was that way when I first heard it, so I had to trim it down as best as I could for this scene.
3 episodes in 1 week!? :) I have no clue how long you recorded and edited for both this episode and the previous 2 recent ones! (No spoilers plz) Something similar to NWR1991's AEG episode. I was born in 2005 when "Calling all engines" came out.
I know the HiT era does have several hidden gems and honestly when those are good episodes, they prove to be great and at least they did bring justice to good quality merchandise and caring for the models (which I know when the show transitioned to full CGI, they preferred to have the props be the same and still be the same show).
