I have to tell you this is the most visually clear piece of tutorial I have see on youtube. I was at a loss until I came across this tutorial. Thank you so much.

Determined to learn this and Clare De Lune during my quarantine.
Edit: been asked over and over in comments if I was successful, so I’ll just put it here.
Yes, I learned both pieces in 3 months, practicing 3-4 hours a day. Clair de Lune proved MUCH more difficult than this piece, so that took up the majority of that time.

Wow, so hard (for me a starting pianist) but yet so visually simple. Thats why Beethoven Won my heart. Its not the difficulty that appeals, its the fact it can make anyone understand sadness. Interesting story is he was an alcaholic who drank out of a lead flask. Back then no one knew lead poisoning caused deafness. He never even actually heard himself play this song cause he had completely lost his hearing by then. He wrote it based of memory of how notes sounded. Fucking amazing and sad...LONG LIVE BEETHOVEN!

    • @hear-and-know
      @hear-and-know 8 ปีที่แล้ว +48

+Stephen Wright Payne His deafness was caused by lead? I've read, probably on Wikipedia, that his deafness was caused because he used to frequently soak his head in cold water to stay awake. But alcohol seems to be what killed him anyway.

+Stephen Wright Payne not true! Beethoven became completly deaf at 44 years of age , it is stated that beethoven first became gradualy death at the age of 31 or in the year 1801 ,the very same year the Moonlight Sonata was finished, and by finished i mean the full 3 movements he had finished the 1st movement years before.

I used to play this song in my teenage years (around 13-16). I was very depressed back then. Back then too, videos like this didn't exist. I never took piano lessons, I did know how to read music by learning books.
My parents were very strict and my mother very religious... very. I remember I couldn't even paint my nails black because it was a passage for Satan to possession or something like that. I was "homeschooled"... well, I just had christian educational learning workbooks who in which didn't even believed in evolution and was very rigid and limited in the information given. No friends really, how could I? Locked in a room, in a house, and every now and then that I was able to go out, nobody couldn't understand my living situations, and I couldn't keep up with any social life at all.
Being this alone, insecure, naive and scared, when I was 18 I ran away from home with/and got trapped in a abusive relationship for almost a decade, who I had two kids with. And 'till this day, tries to torture me and the kids emotionally, financially, and mentally (but laws can't do anything about it because that's how unfair the world is if you don't have the money to make a difference about it).
When I got out of that toxic relationship, I tried to get into college, and thanks to the education provided by my parents, I found out academically I was still registered in 7th grade. So now I had to take a couple of tests to graduate high school at my late 20's, and then finally take the SAT to be able to take study for a degree at my 30s. I have been self taught at everything in my life, I didn't had access, tools, knowledge, education, people, advice, nothing... just what a angry, confused and lonely human mind can reach. I have also made a lot of mistakes, but I am looking back at those teenager years were I learned to play this song... I would play it over amd over again, and as fast as I could sometimes 'till my fingers bleed. I learned how to olay this song by listening to it in a cd player, with broken headphones, I remember I had to hold pressing down the top side of the cd-player, otherwise it wouldn't read the CD.
The CD was my moms, she used to play it in the mornings when I was a little girl, but she got really religious, she stopped listening to it. The keyboard was my dad's, it was an electric 80's small keyboard, and the keys weren't enough for this song, still I would had imagine the keys I was playing, then around my 14s, my dad took me to this music store here in Puerto Rico, called Villa Music in San Juan. They had this cristal private room full of Grand pianos... and my dad asked for permission, so they would let me play at least one.... it was so beautiful, I had never seen anything like this room... my eyes were caught in a Black baby grand piano with golden finishes. I forgot the whole world existed and I went straight and finally played the song I so much imagined finishing... even though I hurt my fingers with those fully weighted keys, I played that song with my heart and it was like I finally took a breath from all the pain I had, at least for that moment. I played with a flowing language through my fingers, and I finally was able to hear the finishing keys played of it... I don't remember much after it, my dad told me there were people listening and he then bought me a 88-keys weighted electric piano, and at least I had a way to Express myself for the remaining years in my room alone before I ran away.
I love so much how now in this days people can learn so easily, and have access to much information and tools... people should really appreciate all this beautiful at hand gifts that we are able to reach, I know sometimes we don't even realize how much we have.
That experience, I am glad I get to share it here.

This tutorial has helped me achieve a lifelong dream to play Moonlight Sonata, 1st movement, in its entirety. I suffered a post-traumatic brain injury and I never learned how to read music. yet I have always been drawn to the piano. Growing up, my mom was learning to play this song so I heard it often. It's a beautiful song, it draws people and it captured my heart. Thank you for making this tutorial. It is not easy, the song that is, but your video and technique have made this song doable. I have 2 minutes left to learn...for me, that's a miracle. "A Moonlight Miracle."

I haven’t played in about 18 years, but once you get back into it, your body remembers. Thank you so much for showing me the hand positioning because that was all I needed to relearn.
I hope you know how much you’re helping me get better every day with your tutorials. 😊

i first set my eyes on this video two and a half years ago. as of last night at around 1 am, i had completed the gravest journey of my life. i am very new to the piano and i am so glad i found this video and because i did, i learned many lessons along the way. i found my love for classical music. and i also got to learn that for me, at least, the piano is mental warfare, and all in the same, a place to relax and ease my mind of all the troubles that life has to offer. after a long run, my marathon came to a close and all i can say is i am so very greatfull for what this video was able to help me accomplish.

I was in a very deep depressional episode last year. All I did was just sleep and read books all day so I might feel better. And there was, this song made me feel better whenever I listened to it. So I decided to play it on my own to calm myself when I feel down. I have 0 piano experience, 0 key or note knowledge or anything about the techniques. I only had the chance to use the piano at school, so I would sneak up to the music room and open this tutorial on my phone to learn it step by step. It wasn't easy for sure. I started this journey on May 2023, it's Feb 7 2024 and I can officially fully play the song. I feel much better thanks to your tutorial, you will never know how much it changed my life 🖤

I remember the first time I heard Moonlight Sonata, and I just absolutely itched to know what it was as back then I had never heard the name of it, I just knew it was very iconic and Schroeder was always playing it in Charlie Brown movies. Since I was quite young I have been teaching myself on the piano/keyboard, and though I haven't had a chance to learn more advanced techniques, I've taught myself to have very good form and I know some advanced fingering methods. I can play a lot of popular songs, including the 3rd movement of this song, which I learned by using a demo on a keyboard of mine. But if there is one thing I have always loved about it, it is that the name "Moonlight" could not be more fit for this piece, as the music simply exudes the aura and presence of the full moon on a clear night, and its soft, gentle but lonely beauty.

Ban Man- I don't really think that's true. My brother started lessons as an adult and can play really well now! I've played since I was a kid, but have small hands that can only go so far. If you put in the time as an adult, you can be successful. :)

Look up "Simpsons: You're next" to forever have flashbacks everytime you hear this song

    Thanks you for the uploads.
I can play this now after about 6 months or so (First piece ive learnt after trying for over the course of 10 years and buying a cheap keyboard maybe 3 times) and its all down to you and this specific video, the slowness and more importantly the labeled keys were the most beneficial for me ,something alot of other youtubers dont do in piano tutorials, which i believe they are worse off for it as it was a huge contributing factor to my success, thank you again for your time, its much appreciated.
