Joy! As someone pretty new to the hobby, a little over a year, I appreciated both the love and hate takes because it is nice to get the honesty about the hobby. As for what I love, I really love the satisfaction of finding a paper/ink/pen combo that just writes beautifully and shows off the ink perfectly. So satisfying! Plus, everything you said.😊

I have a lot of regret that I wasn’t journaling in key years. I missed a lot. I just love fooling around with pens like you. I just scribble pictures and words. It’s very relaxing. It is so good for mental health. It’s also a way to disconnect from technology.

One of the things that I love is that fountain pens distract me from pain. I'm recovering from a terrible accident and fountain pens have helped me through many sleepless nights.

Joy! I do not write many comments on TH-cam, but I wanted to say this clip really hit home with me and I loved it. I started with fountain pens many years ago while recovering from a broken wrist. The lower pressure made it easier than a ball point to write and in my job I have to write a great deal. One main reason I stuck with fountain pens is exactly what you mentioned. It slows me down when writing and clears my thoughts. You also mentioned that it improves your handwriting and as a southpaw I need all the help I can get.

I'm quite new to this madness but have found out that the thing I love the most is the fact that the writing shows your emotions so well. With a single pen/ink combo you can clearly see if I was in a hurry, stressed out or relaxed by the way the ink shades and the used pressure. Watching your videos helps me learn about the hobby and understand what I really am looking for in new pens and inks.

JOY! So much truth in one word to describe our feelings for fountain pens! I could write a book on all the joys this hobby has brought me. Truly the personalization, customization, you name it! But the mental health it brought me just by learning something new. And with fountain pens you are always learning something new. Then there is the increase in joy in journaling! Writing with a FP is a whole different experience when journaling. Finding your favorite pen, nib, ink, paper, the stories behind each pen, etc. I also find joy in my mistakes- inkcidents! 🙀of course some are not so joyful!!! Also, like you said - to just slow down, slow your mind down if only for a few minutes. For me, it feels iconic, nostalgic. My only regret is not finding fountain pens 40 years ago, but I’m so grateful I have now! Thank you and God bless you.

Joy! I'm 67 years old and have been using fountain pens since I was in high school 50 years ago! I enjoy all the excellent papers and pens available today. I started off with a Parker 75, so I got "spoiled" right from the beginning! Sadly I lost it running through a rain storm many years ago. It jumped out of my pocket for a swim, apparently. I don't have a huge collection - only about 60 pens - but I like them all. My favorite is my Mont Blanc, Hommage a Frederic Chopin, with a nib that Richard Binder tweaked for me to a cursive italic. I've literally used it every day for over 20 years, except for the time it was away for the regrind. Thanks for your content!

JOY! I love to use my Pilot Vanishing Point when I am taking notes and doing my Bible studies. The best thing is that I never have to spend time looking for the cap to my pen! I first used a fountain pen when I was in high school in shorthand class in 1966, and I have used fountain pens off and on since that time. They give me such joy. Now at the age of 75, I have fallen down the rabbit hole of the fountain pen hobby. My pens and inks make me so happy. Thank you for your wonderful perspective on your pens. I certainly can identify. I am now trying to love journaling. Keep up the great work!

I make custom pens of all types, the most joy I have is making fountain pens. My favorite store bought fountain pen I forgot I had it in my pocket a couple of weeks ago and had bled in my pocket. I was doing some outside yard work. I was not pleased about it but now I am back to the drawing board thinking about some fountain pens and making some with skrimshaw work or carving. Because of this, I am thinking about hand carving some leather journals with some pen parts. This is my joy and makes me happy. It was a joy to listen to you and I love your book collection.

Joy ! I used fountains pens in high school and college, and for a while in the workplace. When our kids were born, I was busy and became more busy when we started home schooling. I fell away from the hobby for quite a while and got back into it about 3 years ago. I'm enjoying pens that cost me under $100, and lots of ink. (I did spend more for the bronze Kaweco Sport, but found it to be too heavy and rehomed it to a grandson.). The hobby also brings me joy. It's useful, too. I have always learned and memorized by writing. My pens & ink are being put to good used in memorizing. Makes a difficult task fun, as memorization becomes more difficult with age. I've also purchased pens as gifts. Color is a big part of the joy - beautifully colored pens and inks. Makes me happy, too.

More joy! As a child, I always had a fascination for stationery. I would just look at all the pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks, etc. and just wish I could have it all. However, ballpoints just never did it for me, and the gel pen thing is too new to have impacted me while I was in college. But many years ago, my brother-in-law gave me a fountain pen (Waterman Expert III). That led to a Pilot MR, and I was hooked. I’m like a little child again fascinated once more by fine writing instruments.

Joy! I love how smoothly they write -- I have a lot of chronic pain and they help sooooooo much with that. I also love all the ink colors, and the scented inks. I like how customizable they are. I love the way some of the pens look. And it absolutely thrills me that they're not disposable. While I have had a couple ( pretty cheap) fountain pens break, theoretically, the pens I buy work for the rest of my life, and possibly longer. Speaking of which, I like the history of vintage pens. I like the practicality, too. And I tend to favor pens with large ink capacities. And fantasy books and die bring me joy, too. My favorite set is black with sparkles in them.

Joy! I love the various shapes, the materials, the different nib styles. I love filling them, disassembling them, cleaning them when preparing to put it back into a folder. I love the feel of the nib on paper, the sounds some nibs make. I love the way the ink changes on the paper as it dries ( is that like the archetypical activity of the bored? I don't mind,). I love dipping a balky nib in my tea and wiping it or rolling it in my hand and getting it to flow. Is that poisonous? Maybe, but I'm not dead yet. I love looking at ads. I love pen blogs. Not all of them; some voices grate. Reviews in which the comment is "Oooh, I just loooove this ibk! it's so pretty!" Ok, what else besides your opinion? leave me flat. Other than that, I'll watch.

I have used fountain pens for most of my life, and usually refer to them as just "pens." I think fountain pens give me joy because I can write a lot faster with them than almost any other pen. I also know that when I pick it up, it's always going to work for me. In today's fast paced world, it helps me keep up with what I need to get done. There are so many colorful inks, and I don't have to hunt down special refills. All I need is a bottle. I almost always get ink on my fingers writing with a ballpoint, but only rarely with my regular pens (fountain pens). When I was in uni, everyone thought I used felt tipped pens. I never corrected them. They only saw the vivid turquoise, magenta, purples, and greens in felt tip pens before. Felt tipped pens are much more like fountain pens than almost any other kind of pen

Joy! Oh, where do I start about the rabbit that grabbed me 4 months ago and is still dragging me through its burrow?
    - I love playing! I'm newly retired and haven't played like this since I was a kid. I get up in the morning and want to play. I love the explorations. Even with modest collections of pens, inks and papers there are so many combinations to try.
    - I love the beauty... pens are lovely. The inks are lovely. What I create with them is pleasing to the eye.
    - I love the intentionality... I've actually kept up with journaling, and have journaled deeper than ever before about my thoughts and feelings. I keep track of the places we've been and things we've done, because it provides and excuse to write and, lo and behold, I like creating that record. Who would have guessed at my age?
    - I love that I'm doing something my mom did. When she died (I was 12) I used her fountain pens because she did... and they were there. She had chosen to continue with fountain pens even though we had entered the age of the ball point. Then the big move happened and I don't recall ever seeing them again. I picked up my first fountain pen and ink due to a random Goulet Pen informercial because I wanted to feel that connection to her again.
    - And I love that living in the internet age allows me to easily connect with people who enjoy the things I do. Thank you for being a part of that! Folks like you who take the time and effort to share your joy are special.

    Happy, happy, joy, joy! 😁
I've enjoyed fountain pens since my first one, a vintage Esterbrook J with a 2668 firm medium nib. Originally it was kinda the novelty. Fountain pens were dying in the area when I was in high school in 1983. And that old Esterbrook? Would have been thrown out by virtually anyone else (no one would have admitted to collecting a humble stainless steel nib back then.) That first bottle of Sheaffer Skrip blue-black (was one of the few bottled inks I could find, and my other options were "teacher colors" (red and green) or "boring" blue or black (I still despise washable blue 😁) and I was in business.
Fast forward to the present: I won't use anything else unless I don't have an option. With the right ink/pen combination, I can write with a fountain pen on most things. Those I can't, a Sharpie would probably work, or a permanent marker.
And because I'm old enough to deal with arthritis, and had a stroke and neuropathy from diabetes, most everything else hurts to write with after about a couple of lines.

Joy, yes, in bundles. Some of the things I like about my fountain pens? Connections with family and friends is high on my list. I have and regularly use my Dad's fountain pen and a pen passed on to me by my brother who was no longer using it. I have fountain pens bought for me by members of my family and inks from friends. I have spent hours with my grandson filling pens and talking about the merits of different ones in my collection. Also, still on the connections theme, they connect me with my own younger self. I used fountain pens throughout my school life and I well remember walking around school as a 15 year-old with my favourite fountain pen and a bottle of ink. I remember using my fountain pen to write letters to friends who went on into the 6th form at school when I left and went out to work. To me, fountain pens are not a hobby, they are a lifestyle.

Joy 😊 I live in Germany and as a pupil I started to write with a fountain pen. When I was a teenager I enjoyed to use fountain pens with different ink cartridges in royal blue, turquoise, red and black at the same time. Again I fell in love in 2019 as I saw somebody drawing Zentangle with fountain pens in different ink colors. My first bottle of ink was El Dorado by KWZ used in my Montblanc Carrera school fountain pen. I enjoy the craftsmanship of fountain pens and I'm speaking of pens around 300 Euro and more. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to use every ink color I like on good quality paper. Thanks for your videos and greetings from Germany, Silvia 🙋🏻‍♀️

Joy! That was a great video. I really enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm.
I very much like the choice aspect, too. Fountain pens are deep -- there's a lot to know, a lot to tweak, a lot to experience. Does anyone remember Pearly Soames from Mark Helprin's Winter's Tale? I think I share his color gravity. Rich, changing color draws me in and I am transported by it. The variety of inks delights me. The small differences between shades of purple can hold my attention for serious time, and watching how an ink behaves differently between different nibs, on different papers, if I perhaps add a drop or two of water -- fascinating.
This hobby is emotional, visceral (all that sensation, as nib moves across paper, with different shapes under fingers, of moving in different shapes to form letters and thoughts), and has plenty to entertain my thoughts as well. I'm very glad to be here.
Thank you for offering your videos to us.

Joy! I will never leave my ballpoints behind because I have had a Papermate that went all the way from Junior High School to my work in the real world and still have it to this day. But the refills are getting hard to find. When you pick-up a fountain pen it is like picking up something fancy and expensive. Even through most of mine at this time are under $ 70. I feel like I own the world when I pick up any of my fountain pens regardless if it is a Pilot Varsity Or a Pilot E95s absolutely great pen by the way. And I am one of these that don't give a flip about having a Montblanc, because most people have one. I would rather have rare if I am able to afford it. And as Kerry has said, none of my family cares about fountain pens, which is sad. For me they are time healers for my brain.
Thanks for the video, Kerry. I hope kitty Parker is good.

Joy! Found an ink just yesterday that sheens from violet to spring green. I know I have more inkbottles than I can write dry in my lifetime, but this was such fun to look at, so I had to have it.

Joy! Something I used to do a lot more in my roller balls before I got into this hobby was replace the cartridge with a different color & spend the next few minutes watching the colour change as it soaked through the feed.... Wondering now if this is something that would be frowned upon in the fountain pen world & whether I should just try it again in a fountain pen anyway..... Thanks for the inspiration & ideas as always x

Joy! My signature has gotten horrible over the years. Since I've begun using fountain pens again and practicing writing my signature over and over it has improved greatly.

Joy. I love the hobby. The pairing of the ink with the pen. The rush when taking off the cap to write, journal or draw. Who ever thought about paper before fountain pens? The incredible choices with ink. The colors and properties, the beauty on the page. Doesn't happen with ballpoint or Rollerblade, because you have basically 3 choices which those mediums. Black, blue and red. With fountain pens there are hundreds of choices. Fountain pens just provide an experience every time you pick them up to use.

Joy! I usually don’t comment on TH-cam, but this time I wanted to let you know my thoughts 😊
Being born in Germany, Pens were always a thing since primary school. Especially if you’re living about 500m away from Pelikans HQ 😅
I love the hobby for being analog! Thinkering with pens, ink and paper is super relaxing to me.
    Btw: love your channel! 😊👍🏻

I love to write also, but if I had to do it with a ballpoint pen I would hate it. Especially with my hurting (and after a short while cramping) hands.
And fountain pens (and ink) are beautiful.

Yep, she’s a fountain pen enthusiast. I think the biggest aspect that I enjoy about fountain pens is they are all about making you enjoy the process, not just the end result. People who don’t understand the value of enjoying (variant of joy) the process simply don’t understand the importance of doing things with one’s hands. Zen Buddhism practitioners do, however.

I can certainly relate to all of this. I just swatched out inks and rewrote the names of all my 55 pens just so I could play with them. lol on a different note, can you do a comparison of Akkermans SBre brown and your ‘bourban’ ink pls? I remember you said you had both once. I looked all over for the Montblanc ink and can’t find any for the price I can afford. Anything else close to it? Love your videos.

    This Drawing Boi sez:
    1. Fade-resistent, waterproof inks.
    2. Really crisp lines of various widths.
    3. Zoom nibs.
    4. Fude nibs.
    5. Online community.
