- In the last 24 hours, Governors Nyesom Wike of River State and Godwin Obaseki of Edo have thrown all caution to the wind and hurled insults at one another over the control of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State.
Wike threw the first salvo at the weekend when he admonished the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, after the latter complained of lack of integration of Obaseki’s supporters into the Edo State chapter of the PDP.
Shaibu went on to warn that Obaseki and his supporters might seek alternative political platforms if they are not recognised by the PDP.
Responding to the deputy governor’s remarks, the typically combative Wike blasted Shaibu for threatening the PDP and promised to write to the national chairman of the PDP, demanding that the party constitutes a disciplinary committee to sanction the Edo State deputy governor.
But in swift reaction on Monday, Governor Obaseki came to his deputy’s defence and reminded Wike that the PDP was not his personal property.
However, Wike, in his usual irascible manner, responded by calling Obaseki an ingrate and serial betrayer.
The Rivers governor even apologised to the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, for ignoring the latter’s warning about Obaseki.
To explain the root cause of the slanging match between the two governors is Dr Nwanosike Samuel, Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, and Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser on Media to the Edo State Governor.

I am an Esan man of Edo Origin. I am completely in support of Dr. Nwanosike. Obaseki is a damn betrayal, and it is very unfortunate that he used PDP to continue in power when APC was rubbishing him. Just imagine, Obaseki wanted to corner the Royal institution Monarchy of Edo State to claim the just returned Edo State antiquities by going to lobby Buhari for it as he deliberately refused to sign Anti-grazing Bill into Law alongside other PDP governor.

The media should not create the wrong narrative about Wike. Wike speaks the truth. He could speak better but on this issue, Obaseki is clearly wrong. Obaseki and the deputy have had the same issues in both parties and Wike is exposing them now.
Obaseki and his Deputy seem too bossy for people they met on ground. Let them calm down and get integrated into their party and keep their party business out of the public glare. They should remember how they begged for this second term bid, settle and move on.

Obaseki and Shuaibu are just two arrogant. They should remember their experience with APC in 2020. Let them come down from their high horse and get integrated into their party and stop this show of shame and disgrace. As a leader, the ability to carry people along is very key to having a peaceful leadership and tenure. Please settle your internal problems amicably and keep the public out of it. Obaseki please remember the risks people like Gov Wike took to get you where you are today so go back and sort things out personally. No more public insults please do your settlement quietly. If others were not on ground to keep the party running which party would Atiku have come back to start wanting to pick its presidential ticket at all cost? He also should take it easy.
