    I've never heard truer words spoken about working on stuff. "The perfectionist in you wants it to be perfect, but the realist in you wants to move on."

      It’s a balance between getting things done and making things perfect. The struggle is real

      @@rosstheoliverman I've found for me that it applies even more with combines than with tractors. Combine fixing jobs are usually a "hurry up and get it in the field" kinda job. Then when you have time to fix it right you never actually want to 🤣

    • @burrridgefarms
      @burrridgefarms ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been there on my combine. Usually I have to force myself to fix stuff on it between beans and corn. I thought I did good last year but if I would have procrastinated one bering would have been more accessible cause the elevator would have been off then instead of earlier 😕

    Hi Ross, I was hoping you could have got the 880 running. The three tractors dad had on the farm was all narrow front I've never drove a wide front end on the farm. On the 770 and 880s I do believe it's pretty rare to have a three-point hitch on them? Thanks Michael

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The three point Hydra hitch seems to be even harder to find than the Power traction hitch. you’ll get to see a clip of it running in the next installment, the videos were getting kind of long so I ended up splitting it up

    Those pliers look handy as hell but one thing I should really invest in is those magnetic trays. You know for preventing me from saying ooooooohhhh fffuuuddgge and then spending the rest of my evening with a bar of life boy in my mouth. The 880 looks like a nice tractor

    That set of pliers are cool! I’m have just bought a pair couple weeks ago and use them all the time. My 770 has a Marvel Shebler pretty simple to put kit in but your Zenith looks much more complicated. Keep the videos coming I look forward for them all the time. The 880 looks real straight and the tin looks good.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 770 did have a Schebler. for some reason they decided to put a zenith on the 880. However it was a different model zenith than what is on here now

    That carb was a real mess! Looking forward to seeing that tractor in operation. That will likely be my next purchase - either a 770 or 880. Of course, there are a ton more 770's.

    I've heard a lot of guys complain about Zenith carburetors. I have very little experience with them... However my experience has not been negative. I am eager to see your experience as this works its way along. I really want an 880, but I want a diesel. Just easier to keep things diesel since most other items I have are diesel.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can tell you I already have that part filmed and it was not a pleasant experience. I ended up cobbling it together to get the tractor to test run, and then ordered the carburetor kit off the Internet which cost over $100. So we’ll see how the second round of rebuilding goes

    • @BillTheTractorMan

      @Ross the Oliver Man hmmmm. With that rust, it definitely looked like a challenge. I have had to get wire brushes for a dremel tool and clean carburetors before. I'm tempted to buy an ultrasonic cleaner from Hobo Freight to see how that works on carburetors. I hear they work well.

    I went to check the valves on a JD 420 and realized I could not get to the crankshaft pulley without pulling off the radiator and shroud. I ended up having my 7 year old hold his thumb next to the plug hole and I put the tractor in road gear was able to push on the top-backside of the rear tire and got the engine to turn over. Set the lash, and did the procedure for the 2nd plug.

      That is an excellent idea. I wish I had thought of it about seven videos ago. 😭😭😭 I’m telling you what’s coming up ahead is painful. I just today got the correct carburetor kit. You’ll see in the second video how I cobbled it up to get it to run, failed, and then in the third video you’ll see how I got it to run and drive about 500 feet. The correct carburetor kit for this particular carburetor was expensive over $100. Right now I’d like to take old Mr. zenith out behind the tavern and teach him a lesson about making more better fuel make it happeners.

      @@rosstheoliverman We threw more Zenith carbs away than Zenith made. The pain in fixing them only to have them mess up again because of a speck of dirt before the customer used them for a while cost more than just getting a Marvel, putting it on, getting the shop space open again, and not having the customer complaining about some stupid finicky carb. The Marvel, even the farmer's grandson could make it right before they were 10 years old. Farmers liked to turn the main fuel jet and expect it to give results when the temps changed.

    Ross Oliver company do think engineers build tractors made harder for farmers work tractors? And the way engineers build tractors was a bad idea? How many 880 tractors was made from year what think ? What was Oliver 880 use for? Thanks again answer my questions great job on video's keep up good work.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the engineers back in the day of this tractor had a much better understanding of what The equipment was actually being used for. I think most of those engineers probably grew up on a farm or around farms and that’s why things were so much more simple to work on. Today I think a lot of the engineers are just given the task of designing a component and they have no idea what the true end result is going to be and that’s why you have so much extra gadgetry and hard to get to things. I’m not exactly sure how many 880s were built, but I know around here you don’t see them very often. I’m not sure what this Tractor‘s job will be when I get it going but it would be able to do most anything as super 88 would do or even the 770
