This was a really underrated ride; back in ~2002 my middle school used to go to Busch Gardens for the yearly "incentive trip" (for good grades) and this was one of my favorite rides. The best thing about it was that there was never a line. Often times you could just ride it over and over without ever even having to get out. Escape from Pompeii was the only _big_ ride that one could do this with, and the drop was always exhilarating.
I still remember the heat you could feel radiating from the huge flames as they appeared all around you and billowed across the ceiling like some gigantic hibachi grill. Very memorable experience with great effects

Busch gardens is one of the few non Disney parks that actually put effort into making a theme for their rides and queues. Respect for that, love this beautiful park.
It's actually been voted most beautiful park for quite a few years now lol
Dollywood and Silver Dollar City are also right up there on my list for well themed non-Disney parks.

I know right? Just went yesterday, and of course I rode all the rides, except the dreaded, TEMPSETO.
I've been to Busch Gardens twice. This was one of my favorite rides. I like watching videos of rides from places I haven't been in many years. Brings back memories for me.
This ride has literally no protection just one skinny bar lol

The bar is mostly just there so idiots can't get out of the boat. The hill isn't nearly steep enough to necessitate any restraint system. Same reason log flumes don't have seatbelts.

I went on this COMPLETELY alone when I was 10. I closed my eyes and cried. The drop was amazing thought. I went a second time with people, and it was so cool!

We just had our family vacation at busch gardens love the scenery and water country usa but I think this ride could of been better and the fire inside was not a good ideal to me very dangerous but the opening of the doors was interesting and the drop tickled our stomach !! overall nice place

I went on that ride and a statue almost fell on all of us.The drop almost threw us all out
AHHHH I knew something had changed...the doors were always closed giving that great red mist effect to an open white light effect...NOW the doors are open all the time...not as cool, not as cool.

last time i went on it we got stuck going up the ramp in the beginning we were literally sitting there for almost 20 minutes before we were able to move again...

Let's get it right here, not gasoline, propane. All of the pyrotechnics on this ride is made by using propane. I just came back from Busch Gardens, I did like the ride.

I was going to say "too soon", opening the ride about such a tragic event. But then I realized the irony of the fact that a ride based on a village of people being buried by hot molten lava was made into a FLUME, and realized someone has a very strange sense of humor.

The ride is good, and the special effects and theme is good, but too short. They could have done so much more with it. Splash Mountain in Disney in Orlando is probably one of the best log flume rides in terms of overall experience. It's a good length and has a lot of great scenery and music. Very extensive. Still, one can't expect Busch Gardens to match something as big as Disney.
Except that music gets anoying after 30secs

And maybe it's just me, or does it seem a bit insensitive to have a ride based off an event where many people perished?
If you ride this multiple times, you'll notice the fire is the same each time you enter the ruins, and the falling items will rise back to their position if you turn your head to look backwards. Oh and, a tip to get soaked a lot is to stand on a built-in platform outside.

I was riding Apollo and Alpengeist 24/7 when I was 8... but this ride always made me cry. I do NOT do well in tight spaces and fire DX

I remember the Pompeii. I rode this when I was ONLY 6! I was scared shitless. Literally. My face was stuck as heck when I saw that fire.
That big-ass statue looking like it's gonna fall on you in the tunnel is what scared the shit out of me when we rode it.
Favorite ride of all time. This is my childhood!! I recognize the song at the played. It's really eerie but awesome sounding. Wish I knew what it was called!

Went to Busch Gardens when I was younger. We went on this ride so many times.
Going this july ( 2015) can't wait to check out the new rollercoaster and go on this for the first time.
Busch Gardens then Dorney Park. You can just skip Valleyfair altogether.
The scary part is, apparently Mount Vesuvius is still active, so it could erupt again!
This ride is awesome. I went there with two best friends a few weeks ago and there were no lines for it that day. We rode it again and again in the front row, and the staff let us stay in because nobody was riding it anyways. We got soaked, but that just makes it even better, and we didn't take long to dry up once we finally took a break from it

That looks very dangerous. Earthquakes and a sharp drop off! It looked like fun but also it was a little bit short. I think a few more curves and a little drop would be nice.

This make my national list for rides the need some love and updating. The Pov is minimal and seems basic and lazy, it is in need of a refresh. Plus BG has this Honorable nag for skipping and turning of Pov and effects on there rides when busy killing the ride quality and experience.
I just rode this yesterday it was so much fun rode it 3 times the only part I don't like is when you first drop your stomach drops but other than that it's fun. and also people can pay 1 dollar to spray you with water FUN :) :)
Worked this ride when it first opened back in the day when I lived in Williamsburg. That damn tune when you first enter the building I can still find myself humming. Does anyone have any idea what the name of the tune is?

I was just at Busch Gardens a few days ago, and this was the first ride we went on. Not bad, except that it's way too short. It seems like we were just on and off...
I went on this ride when I was like 3 and I was scared of the fire... I tried to climb out! I'm still scared to go on it.

When you're on the front row, the fire burns the shit out of you for about. 3 seconds. And your shoes get soaked. Back row is definitely the best.
It is not as bad as it looks. I have been on it and trust me its not too bad except one time I was on it I lost hold of the lap bar with my hands and my hands weren't on it and I was terrified! Jeez its still perfectly in my mind. Waaa!
I love Busch garden because they I want on a ride and it was caught escape from pen pal and my cousin went with me and my mom and Boogaloo was with me and my cousin name is sanaya and magic

Warning to those of you who want to ride this now that you've seen the video. The fire makes it VERY hot inside of the ride. There are four people in each row, so if you're on the edges, be aware that is pretty hot in there. It's not as bad if you're in the middle, but it's still hot. Just a reminder if you're not a fan of heat . . . 😀

So many innocent people, men, women & children have died in Pompeii, and they make an amusement park ride out of the most terrible volcanic disaster in history, I find this sickening, what's next making park rides on the sinking of the Titanic or the World Trade Center collapsing, show more class than this.

I want the US Government have this Pompeii ride taken down and the designers & builders of the ride be thrown in jail, and have them taken to the Pompeii sight and have them look at the ash covered bodies laying where the people have died!

When Mount Vesuvius erupted killing everybody in Pompeii it was 9/11 in Ancient Rome, everybody in Rome pulled together to morn the people, the Emperor dedicates Coliseum events to honor the people of Pompeii.
I went on thus ride once and I'll never got on it again. I was on this ride and the entries time there was screaming children.
The settlement that was destroyed was situated on a slope on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The only possible "Escape from Pompei" would have been by boat from that coastline ( if they had a boat & a lucky wind ). If they were in a boat, they may have seen crumbling statues and fires, just like in the ride. However, if they were that close at that point, they would not have likely survived. A very conceivable "light" concept for a fun ride. I just wish it was longer. ==:D
You all need to calm down it is just a ride and personally i love this ride and it actually teaches people about Pompeii it is a history lesson made into a fun ride so all of you who are putting negative comments on here saying oh it was so sad Busch Gardens is stupid, you all need to stop. Last time I went here was over Christmas vacation. To bad I didn't get to go on any of the roller coasters like the Griffon or Apollo's Chariot. I thought that this ride looked kinda cool, when it was 9 pm, and it was covered in snow.
I've been going to Busch Gardens Wiliamsburg, VA since I was 3 and I just went back 2 weeks ago with my friend. I have been going once or twice every year and I've noticed that fire isn't on the ceiling anymore. Does anyone know why?
