Find me a musician who can pull off the "Municipal Waste T-shirt, bottom half of Pikachu costume, knitted booties and hair full of feathers" outfit better than Stephen Bruner
I like how flylo says he won't do jazz but it's still in his roots. He collaborates with an unbelievable jazz bassist. Thundercat and his band are top notch. It's real modern jazz. So tight.
lol He's actually doing a collaborative Jazz album with Thundercat which is supposed to release later this year! there was even a vine with Herbie at Fylo's place working on stuff! I'm so stoked. Flylo "gets" jazz more than purists even do. he pushes it to levels that most traditionalists would be afraid to go! I admire is work so much!.
saw him at bestival a few days ago with the brainfeeder showcase, either this was a bad day or he's seriously improved in a short time. his voice was as untouchable as his bass.
Man... your right. Not only bass playing but the composition. Whenever I hear Jaco's name I almost want to cry after reading the novel about him. He should still be here.
***** Back in 1984 while living in NYC, I cut school with a few of my friends and went downtown to 48th st. where Manny's and Sam Ash were. I was playing around with the basses and there was this junkie looking cat doing unbelievable shit on the bass. BET used to show live jazz performances back in the day and, lo and behold, there's a old video of Jaco Pastorius. He was so into music that his life was a mess, not to mention heroine and that he was diagnosed as crazy. I was blown away by his playing. I had a first hand close up of his playing. By the way, they threw him out like a nobody! No respect for the genius. I picked up everything I could of this cat after that. True story
Terence Jones, Sr Wow man that is amazing and sad at the same time. But his drug of choice was cocaine and booze. But I believe you if he said he was doing smack to. And it is a shame how he died. The bouncer's name is Luke Havan. Or something like that. Have you read the novel about him? If you haven't order it on Amazon right now man. You will not regret it. It's an amazing book. I even cried a little at the end. It's that good.
+CheesecakeCaptain Man, y'all are riding Thundercat so hard, it's ridiculous. Have you never heard of cats (besides Jaco) who've been playing like this 10-20 years before the likes of the latest Berklee School of Music grads? Do yourself a favor... google "RICHARD BONA" -- he has more skills on bass & guitar PLUS his voice is 20K times better than Thundercat. Y'll need to take a break & either spit or swallow!!!
well that makes me very happy because about a year ago when he was promoting his new album he said he would like to improve on his voice! so if it has gotten better, hey I'm happy about that!
I listen to Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Nu Metal, Folk Metal,Dubstep, Techno, Electro and other things...but this melodies are magic... And a black guy who is an incredible bass player and has got a Municipal Waste t shirt, is pure epicness.
for some reason i have an urge to watch some old school cartoonnetwork. i was born in 96 and grew up with some of the old cartoon cartoons like dexter's lab, cow and chicken, looney tunes, powerpuff girls( yeah i said it. POWERPUFF GIRLS) all the way up to the mid 2000's, like 07 or 08. i miss those days and this song always reminds me of them. almost makes me want to cry...almost.
Jeffrey Wheaton it's great that you shared this cos I'm from 96, I watched all of those and Cartoon Network and their jazz based cartoons music in intros always sounded so reminiscing (specially ed ed n eddy)
sounds good, makes me think of Lonnie listen Smith, but they say Return to forever, a band I listened to quite frequently but not everything of theirs...but on that cooled out tip, there is Lenny white.
Ultimate album would have tracks by the following: Thundercat Flylo Hudson Mohawke Brooke D'Leau Dabrye Madlib J Dilla (duh) MF Doom, Vast Aire somewhere on it (super frienz pt. 2 feat. Raekwon and Edan)
exactly, I think he just has a hard time singing and playing together. because in his album his voice was great but he probably recorded the vocals and bass parts separately lol. once he gets his voice on point man then literally NOBODY will touch this cat "no pun" when it comes to this genre
These guys opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, when I saw them in Omaha last October. Their songs went on for like 10+ minutes each, I felt like I was at a Grateful Dead concert. lol
you can count 4/4 through the whole song and things will line up eventually, but it's grouped more like this: 4/4 plain to see for 3/4 you and me 5/4 love... it 4/4 cannot hide just 3/4 be who you 4/4 are... 5/4 4/4 4/4 it's

can't do it. he's the only one
+blaisems And awesome and groovy basslines
Frank Ocean in normal clothes with Jordan’s on his feet and his signature Japanese headband & a Chinese straw hat
His voice is godly.
I like how flylo says he won't do jazz but it's still in his roots. He collaborates with an unbelievable jazz bassist. Thundercat and his band are top notch. It's real modern jazz. So tight.

I doubt he was being serious, You're Dead! has a couple bebop tracks on there.
Ton's of Jazz fusion as well. the first few tracks are fusion heavy.
He's clearly influenced by his great Aunt Alice so I don't know why he would say that
His singing has come a long way!!!
Thundercat loves his flatwounds/dead strings. Very refreshing to see a young player take old standards and reapply it to the new hotness...
+catboyzee i was wondering if that was what it was... that tone sounds so good to me
I hadn't noticed that before. I do think he experiments a lot with strings thoug
yeah, his archtop had flats on 1-5, but the bottom string was a roundwound. so those lower notes had more high/mids than the higher notes.
My first shroom experience consisted of Thundercat and Flylo playingin the background
+eagles562 tell me more about that
That sounds good. :) I had Jim Morrison.
You could not have made a better choice
@@LimewaterMusic Like what?
@@microsoftpain2734 literally nothing at all
This guy is very talented and inspiring ! He reminds me of George Duke when he sings.
True!
Return To Return To Forever!
His vocals have come a long way. What a damn boss
Wow, nice groove Thundercat. Serious musicianship here!
This shit is fucking gorgeous! The Internet mentioned him in am interview, I had no idea how beautiful his music is!
Thank you sirs. Talanted musicans of this calibre restore my faith in music.
His latest album is a treat to say the least.
don't worry he's gotten WAAAY better, believe me watch his "Live From the Basement" performance and his singing has improved by miiiiles
his speed is unmatchable.
This is incredible; thank you, God.. for Stephen Lee Bruner / The Amazing Thundercat.
saw him at bestival a few days ago with the brainfeeder showcase, either this was a bad day or he's seriously improved in a short time. his voice was as untouchable as his bass.
Thanks 2021 starting to look up I’m late but I’m here 👌🏿
ohhh the bass face!!!!
It is Ronald Bruner Jr. and Thundercat who play off and on with Suicidal Tendencies.
what better to accompany a great bass solo than a great pair of legs in the background!! great tune very talented musicians
I LOVE ME SOME THUNDERCAT!!!😍😍😍😍
Is Thundercat the new Jaco Pastorius? Amazing bass playing and overtones.
Man... your right. Not only bass playing but the composition. Whenever I hear Jaco's name I almost want to cry after reading the novel about him. He should still be here.

Dang, that drummer is tight!
what's your name
Not sure, but it could be his brother Ronald Bruner Jr. He and his brother Steven were in Suicidal Tendencies together.
It's his bro, Ron Bruner Jr.
Wunderbar!
Awesome. I am going to see him Tuesday. I hope it is flawless. So bad ass...
real music.., the voice and sounds of the future. PEACE!!
he played bass in suicidal tendencies for years - insanely diverse musician !
what a talented mo!
Thundercat is nasty on that guitar 😇👏😝😸👌
well that makes me very happy because about a year ago when he was promoting his new album he said he would like to improve on his voice! so if it has gotten better, hey I'm happy about that!

I have those boots in blue lol! Love him, and LOVE this tune. Thanks for posting. Bless.

Jeffrey Wheaton
Me too haha😢
I'm from 98
Jeffrey Wheaton thought you were going to say The Moxy Show or Space Ghost Coast to Coast.... I was born in 83 you make me feel super ancient
hes got picachu pants on. DOPE.
His facial expression at the very end just makes this video
idk about these vocals but the instrumentals are brilliant.
Beautitul madness!
YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!!!!
Love it!!!
i logged in just to give that idea a thumbs up!.. love the mohawk input!
I love how he's wearing a Municipal Waste shirt. Did not expect that at all
he's hotttt!!!!!
Thundercat is such a weirdo and i love it!
sounds good, makes me think of Lonnie listen Smith, but they say Return to forever, a band I listened to quite frequently but not everything of theirs...but on that cooled out tip, there is Lenny white.
The best BEST part is proof that a bad assed drummer can play on a GROOVE PERCUSSION kit and do the damned thing.
Hope he plays this in daygo that would be tight.
only thundercat can hold it down wearing half a Tigger costume and knit boots
his style of music reminds me of pinback but with a soul feel to it!
Ronald Bruner Jr. on drums?
I think it's trippy that this was for BBC
The globalization of cultures. Glad I found out about Thundercat. Thx Brainfeeder.
Just as good as the one with FlyLo
PLEASE play a show with my band Isaac Bear (from Sacramento) haha---you guys are great!
dat bass O.o
Yo where is more of this
Municipal Waster t-shirt, hes awesome!
is the bassist wearing a municipal waste t-shirt??? wow!! would never ever have expected that!!
Charles Earland vinyl on shelf in the background...
@EkimWahs
i could be wrong but it looks like dyed feathers, mukluks, a black t-shirt and possibly a pikachu costume.
I've told the greatest joke of all time at some point from others and the tamatos they throw at me.
Long time no comment
best part 0:00 - 5:44 hands down, thumbs up
that's thundercat on the bass
Got to have some Gold Panda/Nujabes as well...good shout
Groove percussion tho
not only is ronald bruner playing drums but its a groove percussion. probably playing a vater ride too ha ha ha ha.
Jammin tune. Really likin it. But, does the drummers shirt say, "What Rece$$ion?", wtf? Lol.
municipal waste shirt. SWAG!
nice j dilla poster, great track
Ahahaha with the municipal waste shirt
the dude's chops and tone are Stanley's!
dude thundercat and Juan alderete... make it happen!
I never knew that those kind of sounds can even come out from a bass guitar. Lol c:
glasses without glass!
He puts me in the mind of The Dream on bass meets the late great George Duke's would be son. ;D
we all have influences, sir. Therefore unless he stole Clarke's limbs, that is not possible.
Great stuff...pity about the distracting constant switching of cameras...
thundercat rocking that municipal waste shirt
Don't know why people are hating, this is beautiful and his falsetto is way better then Tom Watts or Bon Iver
Ultimate album would have tracks by the following:
Thundercat
Flylo
Hudson Mohawke
Brooke D'Leau
Dabrye
Madlib
J Dilla (duh)
MF Doom, Vast Aire somewhere on it (super frienz pt. 2 feat. Raekwon and Edan)
exactly, I think he just has a hard time singing and playing together. because in his album his voice was great but he probably recorded the vocals and bass parts separately lol. once he gets his voice on point man then literally NOBODY will touch this cat "no pun" when it comes to this genre
PREACH...lol
j dilla !

time signature?
you can count 4/4 through the whole song and things will line up eventually, but it's grouped more like this:
4/4 plain to see for
3/4 you and me
5/4 love... it
4/4 cannot hide just
3/4 be who you
4/4 are...
5/4
4/4
4/4 it's
municipal waste t-shirts?
Was it Thundercat or Robert Trujillo that was in suicidal tendencies. I thought it was Rob but everyone says Steven, including himself. Was it both of them?
They were both in Suicidal Tendencies, they seem to have a got sense for Bassists ;)
