Thank you so much for your video. Today I was able to get my address change in INM for my family of 4. I followed all the insrtuctions given by you and generate forms and letters within an hour. Then went to Mexico city polanco office for enquiring about how to take appointment for it. I was there around 1:30pm. I enetered from the main door and in front of it, they have window 61 for the information and enquiry. The INM person told me that you can take appointemnt for tomorrow at the small tent near to the first gate. I got the appointment for today at 9:30am. At 10:30 my work is done and they changed the address in the system. They dont charge anything for this. Also we saved money that we had to give to the lawyer. And it's all possible becasue it this video. Thank you.

I had no idea you could get this done with a lawyer for half the price!!! We don't know Spanish and given this is a government interaction we needed help. Hey Paul, Thanks for the video. I am in the middle of completing my change of address in Hermosillo (state of Sonora). I got the documents from INM as per your video. I also searched for a way to set an appt on-line with INM but found no way to do so, so I just followed your instruction of going to the local INM office. However, INM informed me that they don't provide the actual change service for foreigners and directed me to the SAT office which, fortunately, was only a block away. But SAT, of course, does take on-line appointments and wouldn't see me when I showed up. Anyway, long story short. I had to make an on-line appointment with SAT (which I learned in one of your other videos) to take the information I downloaded from INM with your help in this video to complete the process. Maybe it is different regions or states, but this is my experience here in Sonora.

Great video as always. Yucatán currently has people waiting in line for an address change. I did one a few months ago and was in line at 6am and there until 2pm.
I’ve just been through this with a change in marital status. The state of Colorado took months to issue a certificate so we ended up with an eye-watering multa from INM. Really though I was surprised by the mountain of required paperwork.
Paul, you left out the second step and an important detail - which cost me an 8000 MXN fee! I talked it down to 2200 MXN, which still hurt. The second step is the online petition for address change. The detail in this form is that for the Previous Address field, don't write in your previous physical address, but make sure it is the previous address that Immigration has on file. Still, thumbs up - good job overall!
@@tower506 I imagine that you could stop by the INM office and ask. Once you actually enter it into that field and submit, they won't allow you to change or edit a mistake. Please share how it goes. Good luck!
Thank you. This was a good video. We had to notify them several years back, but they didn’t have it all on the website so nicely. I have a question. If someone moves back to the US and no longer has a Mexican address, does he have to cancel his Permanent residency?
I am a Canadian Citizen and have the Mx Permanent Residency. As of yet, we have not purchased a Mexican property. When I am in Mexico, I rent a property and then travel back to Canada to spend time with Family. When I return to Canada, do I need to do a change of address? Or do I wait until I return to Mexico, and if I am renting a new property, do I then do a change of address.
Wonderful and informative video. Thanks for all of your help. Just wondering if the online form is only for providing a hard copy to be taken to an INM office? If I make a mistake on the form can I correct it and print again? Just thinking this form does not get registered with INM until hand delivered?
Excellent question. For my part I filled the form about 1 year ago for an address change without print nor going to INM. Now I don't know which previous address they have on file. Don't want to be fined going in the office...
Do i get some confirmation after ? And what if idid mistake in the format, i did it again correctly but what with the "wrong pieza" should i cancel it some how?

What if someone has a one year rental lease and once the one year lease is satisfied they decide to start traveling through Mexico? How does one go about an address change when the address will be changing every week or every month? Residents are not allowed to travel through Mexico without a permanent address?
This is a problem with this requirement. What most people do is keep the old address on file until they find something somewhat permanent (year lease or so).
Hola, thank you so much for the info! My question is if I am visiting another city like lets say San Miguel, can I do my change of address at the INM office in SMA even though I'm currently living in the Yucatan? What if I don't recall my previous address in Mexico?

Quick question Paul. Twice in the video you mention Temporary Resident, does that mean the requirement or procedure is different for us Residente Permanentes?
No, it's the same but this tends to be a problem more for temporary residents because INM catches the address change at renewal time. That's when thry ask, "When did this happen and why didm't you tell us?' Nothing like adding a fine to those renewal costs.
Yep, doing our 3-year temporary residency renewal in March and our lawyer will not proceed until we do our change of address first. Love your Channel Paul thanks for all the help you provide!👍
They will only accept Mexican addresses. If you don't have one, what most people do is just keep the old address on file until they either buy or rent a new place.
Do I bring these documents to the INM-office of the current city/new address I am living in or to the INM office of the city of my previous/old address? And do you know what to fill in if you don’t have a “numero exterior” nor a “numero interior”? Because as I see the “numero exterior” is required, I’ve asked my landlord but they say we don’t have a number.
Hi Paul, My TR renewal is due in February but i am 57 yrs. old and retired now. Do you know if it is possible to obtain and pay for PR when i go to renew, seeing as i am retired now, rather than the 3 yr TR renewal first ? Thank You
No, we haven't seen that happening. The problem comes in when you have to go back to INM for some reason and then they discover the address discrepency (e.g. renewals, lost card).
I know why you're asking this. There are so-called "helpful helpers, for a fee" who continually post falsehoods on their Facebook civil lists and blogs about INM showing up to inspect your living property on file to be certain you really live there. Then they'll add, "call us right away to avoid huge fines, jail time or possibly expulsion from the country." The fines aren't that huge. It's like a slap on the wrist for forgetting, and there is no jail time. And they're not going to take your residency card and kick you out of the country. Mexico wants your money. The only thing you might possibly serve some jail time for is expired temporary or tourist visa (for a week or a month), then you "might" be banned for a year from the country. If you are, just wait a year, then return. It will be like "business as usual." Not discounting the importance of accuracy on your INM file, you better stay up on it. Because if you get hit more than once with this, (address change or civil status) they will start looking how to get you out of the country.
I'm planning on moving on January 20 and renewing my Temporary Residency card in March. Since the move will occur less than 90 days, can I skip the address change and simply update my address when I renew my card?
Knowing how particular they can be, I would file the change prior to the renewal to avoid having to go through the explanation of "when" this move occurred etc. A different address on renewals is one of their red flags.
@@qroo it's a ten dollar crack-of-dawn trip from Guanajuato Capital to León to do it, but I agree, better safe than sorry. Thanks for the quick response.
Same question that wasn't answer below. Does anyone know what qualifies as "proof of address"? If the utility is in the family name, is that okay? For example, I'm living with husband and family. So the property deed and utilities are not in my name. Is that okay?
We all have to get new placas this year in QR. How about a video on that? Is it exact same process for getting a new circulation card, or more complicated? You have to surrender the existing plates, etc.?
Paul, what if i sold my home in mexico and didnt purchase another property? Do i still need to complete the form. If so, would i just leave the new address part out? Please lmk.
Wonderful, step by step procedure to follow. Wondering if I can modify or re-enter my information on this form without a problem with INM? Does the online form actually get entered into their system or is it only when I bring the completed form to the INM office? Would like to complete form in US and bring down in a few weeks but not completely sure of Colonia to use, etc. Thanks so much for your help.
What is meant by a change of address? I assume that means you are moving from you primary registered residency address (one you at the majority of the year), correct, and not if you are just going to Houston for 3 months?
my passport has been damaged and I will be getting a new one. Since I hold a temporary residency in Mexico, should I inform the Mexican immigration office about this change? if yes what is the process?
I made the mistake of filling the form about 1 year ago without following with the INM visit. Now I can't find which address they have on my file. Not sure what to do.
"In theory there is no difference between Theory and Practice. In Practice there is!" - Yogi Berra, Manager, New York Yankees. You forgot to multiply the fine that would apply in theory, by the relevant reductive factors: a) The % probability that you will ever be checked... b) The % probability that they have any method or motivation for contesting the recorded address. Balance that Expected Value versus the 100% certainty that you will piss away another irreplaceable day of your life for the sake of bureaucratic compliance....
Good point Jim. From our experience, this becomes a problem for people when they have some reason to return to INM (e.g. residency renewal or lost card). That's when the new proof of address doesn't match what is on file and questions come up when that change of residency occurred.
I have permanent residence, but I am not yet living in mexico. They don't require me to live there, but they seem to require an address in mexico, which I don''t have. The 'fixer'I had assist with getting the residence (the visit to inm in mexico) "rented" me a temporary address. So now I have to pay them to keep this address. Is there another solution to this? Now I have a second issue. I bought a house in a new development and it is still on developers utilities. There is no meter at my address, so no utility bill. I can't seem to do anything here without a utility bill even if it is not in my name. So while I actually own an address, it looks like I have to keep paying someone in order to use their address, because the development utility bill is registered in tulum instead of at the development. But if I am not required to be in mexico at all times, why can't I register an international address?

My TR renewal is due in February but i am 57 yrs. old and retired now. Do you know if it is possible to obtain and pay for PR when i go to renew, seeing as i am retired now, rather than the 3 yr TR renewal first ?
Thank You
Any report on INM agents show up at your house to check on you?
No, we haven't seen that happening. The problem comes in when you have to go back to INM for some reason and then they discover the address discrepency (e.g. renewals, lost card).
I know why you're asking this. There are so-called "helpful helpers, for a fee" who continually post falsehoods on their Facebook civil lists and blogs about INM showing up to inspect your living property on file to be certain you really live there. Then they'll add, "call us right away to avoid huge fines, jail time or possibly expulsion from the country."
The fines aren't that huge.
It will be like "business as usual."
Not discounting the importance of accuracy on your INM file, you better stay up on it. Because if you get hit more than once with this, (address change or civil status) they will start looking how to get you out of the country.
I've heard of two people that I do not know personally in Yucatán claiming they got a visit, but it's hard to know if it's really true or not.
@@DenLD Probably not true. If you hear it directly from an individual and they show you oictures of the visit and the paperwork, then believe it.

Paul, I also wanted to ask: Would it not be wiser form a monetary standpoint to pay for 4 year the first time, and save almost 10,000 pesos?
Thanks Paul
Same question that wasn't answer below. Does anyone know what qualifies as "proof of address"? If the utility is in the family name, is that okay? For example, I'm living with husband and family. So the property deed and utilities are not in my name. Is that okay?
We all have to get new placas this year in QR. How about a video on that? Is it exact same process for getting a new circulation card, or more complicated? You have to surrender the existing plates, etc.?
Paul, what if i sold my home in mexico and didnt purchase another property? Do i still need to complete the form. If so, would i just leave the new address part out? Please lmk.
They don't have an option for "at large". What most people do is just leave the old address on file until they buy or rent somewhere else in Mexico.
@qroo thanks paul! Your content is the best on TH-cam!
It refers to changing your primary address in Mexico.
I had problems in Cabo.
My CFE postal code was wrong so they sent me away to come back
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
my passport has been damaged and I will be getting a new one. Since I hold a temporary residency in Mexico, should I inform the Mexican immigration office about this change? if yes what is the process?
can i ask a question. what is an expat?
Won't the office let you do the online change on the spot if they catch you with a new address?
They will, but they may hit yout with a fine as well. Our neighbors had a problem with that during a renewal.
The captcha is idiotic. I KNOW I've typed 10 in a row accurately, and it hasn't accepted one of them.
