Thanks for this review, Lao! The Lamy 2000 was not on my list of pens to get, but I was given the opportunity to try it, and I love it! I have the EF nib and it has a slight architect edge to it. It's so wet and smooth, and the feel of the pen body is great in my hands. I put off trying this for so long because it does look boring, it has no other colours, and it just looks so... robotic. But funny enough, it is for those reasons that I think this pen will stay in my collection indefinitely!
That’s true, because it’s the one robotic simple black pen you have, it’s unique and special in the collection! I’m glad you love your EF! This pen is indeed very comfortable in the hands, which is why I kept it and haven’t sold it off! And I don’t think I will because I’ve grown to like it’s unique look! This pen is definitely on my strong maybe list, though I'm not sure how I'd feel about the hooded nib. I'm also one of those people who almost always deliberately avoids things with massive amounts of hype since I usually have the exact opposite opinion from the crowd. If I do end up falling in love with something with a history of hype, it's only after the biggest wave of hype has died away and I can discover it on its own merits.
I love that! Yes it is such a hyped pen, but rightfully so in many aspects. That doesn't mean other pens you love don't also tick the same boxes ❤️ I like your perspective on enjoying a well loved pen in blissful peace after the rampaging storm of people going after it. XD I am glad i got it though. And always happier that I got it for at least half off the market price!

My Lamy 2000 (F) has just arrived 😁 I have to say the quality is exceptional, very nice and comfortable to hold with a very smooth nib..!! I also ordered some new inks so it has Diamine Red Dragon in....I also remembered to rinse the pen as it had blue ink in it from the factory. Like you say it is def an equivalent to a Safari Medium...maybe a hair width thinner but if I had gone for the Medium 2000 it would have definately been too thick for my taste....so the Fine is the sweet spot ❤ Thank you again for your help in my decision as this isn't a cheap purchase, but we got it right 😉 Here's to happy doodling/writing and I hope you have a fantastic 2024 👍👍😀

This remains my desert island pen, mostly because of the writing experience. I’m intrigued at your comments about lack of bounce, which hasn’t been my experience… though it is a muted bounce with the semi-hooded nib. So I guess it makes sense. But this was the first pen where i felt that bounce in a gold nib. It is a different writing experience, though. 🤔 The EF and F are indeed usually very close, and I had one EF ground to a needlepoint for that reason. That one used to sometimes feel a skosh broader than the F with some inks. I think it's very much a "your mileage may vary" situation. As always, thank you for your thoughtful review. You always make me want to talk right back to you! "Yes, I feel the same way except for X, that's not been my experience at all! And Y is an interesting observation…" 😂
YES! That's exactly what I wanted for my review videos - to engage and start conversations about folks differing experiences and similarities! It's a lot of fun and very interesting to hear others' experiences. I think generally it is supposed to be slightly bouncy, but in comparison to the rest of my bouncy hard gold nibs, it is on the stiffer side (like the finer sailors shouldn't be bouncy, but they were, and that surprised me. For Sailors to have that kind of bounce...they have become my standards for those hard gold nibs that might give some bounce). To me, Lamy's tiny hooded nib did not have as much of a bounce, but like you said, it may be due to it being a muted bounce from it being so tiny and hooded! I'll have to feel your Lamys out for sure!
I’m not so sure about voiding the warranty. This is the first time I’ve seen that suggested. But even if you don’t take the section completely apart, the grip section does unscrew very easily - just be careful not to lose that clutch ring! Then cleaning is super easy with a blunt syringe or bulb syringe.
Yeah, I didn't want to touch too much into disassembly or warranty as most warranties just want to make sure you use their inks and that the defects are not from your own mishandling. It was EXTREMELY easy, though, from just using the knob to clean the pen out! :) I love how easy it was. The piston is definitely smoother by a ton compared to twsbi and leonardos.

Also (it’s difficult for me to explain…) the lines are not like made with a „round tipping material“ but a „square“. And I see that in my writing and also in your video. Didn’t thought the Pilot M is so broad, that was interesting!
Hi MrsAlchemist! So happy to have you here :) Yeah, I think almost all Lamy 2000 Fines are grounded a bit stubbish, so thicker down and thinner cross strokes. Glad you were able to find similarities to assure you your pen is as it should be ^_^ As for the Pilot Custom Medium nib...I do get a lot of different opinions (on my Custom 823 video) and experiences of this nib. Some people say it's a Western Fine, but as you can see from my samples, it is nowhere near a western fine. So I can only think of the ink being the culprit here - a dry ink will make thinner M lines for people, wetter ink makes broader lines. As well as paper - more coated paper = thinner lines. Tomoe River paper is coated but appears to absorb inks pretty well to show a thicker line. Hope you find other videos helpful and enjoyable, too. ^_^ Thanks again for subbing!

This review helped me understand the lamy 2000 better since I will be purchasing one soon in fine. What it also helped me out with is my other dilemma! I can’t decide between pilot custom 823 fine or medium nibs. The gap between the 2 is just too much. Medium is too broad and fine needs to be a little thicker like the lamy 2000 nib. Your examples showed me better examples of how they write and I appreciate that, thank you.

@@07SAtown the custom 823 Fine is just as smooth as the medium in terms of it gliding smoothly through the page. The medium will inevitably feel smoother just because there is more tipping material on the nib, but the fine isn’t scratchy or toothy by any means. @@07SAtown Changing the nib will void your warranty and by changing the nib, you're releasing the tight vacuum that the pen was engineered well for. If you do not reassemble or ensure the pen is airtight, the vacuum mechanism may not work as well as before. There's an off chance you can crack parts as you're changing the nibs, too. I have not changed my nibs and am quite afraid to do so for lack of experience, but I'm sure it's not too terribly difficult. I would only change the nib after the warranty is over since anything done to the pen won't be covered anyways. As for the Soft Fine Medium nib 823, I had a friend who purchased it, I will ask him where he got it, but Pensachi.com had them in the past.

I can agree with that, it is very thin, so it can be very difficult to tell or know if there's ink left in there. For ink windows like this, I just turn the pen a few times and if I don't see any small movement inside the tiny window, then I know I'm out of ink haha! So it is stealthy, but also not so easy to read. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, too, Lorelei! ♥
ok after seeing this, I can tell that my Lamy 2000 did come wrong out of the box... it needs sooo much pressure to be able to write. It's insane, I might try tuning it myself
Oh yeah, if you’ve tried your pen with waterman Serenity blue (or any other well behaving ink) and it still has that issue then it’s the nib for sure. I thought it was just mediocre when I used a dry ink in it, but no, it was just the ink haha! Sorry to hear yours didn’t come perfect out of the box.
I actually think that the EF nib on my one Lamy 2000 writes finer than the F nib on my other… I just compared them again and it‘s a very slight difference, but noticable. I love them both. And my medium as well, just the broad is a bit too much for everyday use, so it mostly sits in the drawer. ;)

I'm sure there is a small slight difference, I should have indicated that might be the case in the video xD It's just that I remembered the grind was different so it might not be what people expect if they drop down from a Fine to an EF. It is true, the Lamy 2000 nibs appear to be more stub like and then the EF is grounded to be more of an architect grind (based on information from Brian at Goulet). So I am happy that I had gone with the Fine, since I don't quite care for architech nibs...but it wouldn't hurt to try! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the M and B nib as well - that's very helpful info!
Great review as always. Funny I just ordered an Estie Raven Piston (waiting on it to arrive), but wondering if I made a mistake and should have picked up this LAMY instead. Do you have any experience with the Raven? 🐦⬛ Curious how the two would compare.
Thank you!! ♥ I don't have any experience with the Raven, but I think it probably has a really unique and lovely matte texture to it that is very different from the makralon on this Lamy 2k. If you like black pens, I think the Lamy 2k is a staple pen to carry in your collection - a great EDC and a very fine writer - I thought makralon meant a heavier metal, but this pen is quite light but feels substantial at the same time. I think the lamy's writing experience is better than a jowo experience, at least. It's not a pen that will go out of production any time soon, so you can always opt for it later on :)

Great review.....I'm inbetween a F or M nib. Would the 2000 Fine be similar to a Safari Medium..? Everybody seems to agree the 2000 is wet and writes wider 🤔
Hi moonlight! Thanks for watching and your question. I have 3 lamy al star mediums and all three are slightly different in terms of thickness and wetness. I just dip tested all 3 lamy al star mediums and they are slightly less thick than my lamy 2k Fine. With that, I would say lamy 2k Fine is definitely about an Al-Star medium! My all star nibs are all scratchy in comparison to the 2k lolol!! Such a difference! :)
I don’t have the Lamy 2000…. but talking about boring black pens, I really love my black matte Lamy Safari… black body, black clip and black nib… I find it very stylish, and is livened up right now with Diamine Werewolf’s Blood ink….. a limited edition they did with a store in Oxford.
OMG jean, that name is so cool!! So I suppose werewolf blood must be black XD such a cool ink I’d love to see a writing sample with it if you can sends me one :) and yeah it’s a simple basic black pen that packs a huge punch of good writing! XD I am happy I have one!
LOL!! Yeah, Affordable? We don't know them. It's only affordable in the grey market, actually, I did not specify that in the video. Endlesspens gets Lamys somehow, but they do not come with manufacture warranty. Outside of that, the pen is relatively high, if you can get it for 200 or so, that's a good sale price from authorized retailers.
@@KenchanKrafts I got a Lamy 2000 for 150€ from Amazon. Clearly gray market. It was full of dry ink and it was not writing (there’s a short on my channel that proves that, if you want). I sent it back. Never from the gray market anymore

It looks like the Lamy 2000 F has a very slightly wider down stroke than a cross stroke. This seems true (from my own pens) of the Lamy 2000 M and B.

Great review as always. Funny I just ordered an Estie Raven Piston (waiting on it to arrive), but wondering if I made a mistake and should have picked up this LAMY instead. Do you have any experience with the Raven? 🐦⬛ Curious how the two would compare.
Thank you!! ♥ I don't have any experience with the Raven, but I think it probably has a really unique and lovely matte texture to it that is very different from the makralon on this Lamy 2k. If you like black pens, I think the Lamy 2k is a staple pen to carry in your collection - a great EDC and a very fine writer - I thought makralon meant a heavier metal, but this pen is quite light but feels substantial at the same time. I think the lamy's writing experience is better than a jowo experience, at least. It's not a pen that will go out of production any time soon, so you can always opt for it later on :)

Great review.....I'm inbetween a F or M nib. Would the 2000 Fine be similar to a Safari Medium..? Everybody seems to agree the 2000 is wet and writes wider 🤔
Hi moonlight! Thanks for watching and your question. I have 3 lamy al star mediums and all three are slightly different in terms of thickness and wetness. I just dip tested all 3 lamy al star mediums and they are slightly less thick than my lamy 2k Fine. With that, I would say lamy 2k Fine is definitely about an Al-Star medium! My all star nibs are all scratchy in comparison to the 2k lolol!! Such a difference! :)

I don’t have the Lamy 2000…. but talking about boring black pens, I really love my black matte Lamy Safari… black body, black clip and black nib… I find it very stylish, and is livened up right now with Diamine Werewolf’s Blood ink….. a limited edition they did with a store in Oxford.
OMG jean, that name is so cool!! So I suppose werewolf blood must be black XD such a cool ink I’d love to see a writing sample with it if you can sends me one :) and yeah it’s a simple basic black pen that packs a huge punch of good writing! XD I am happy I have one!

LOL!! Yeah, Affordable? We don't know them. It's only affordable in the grey market, actually, I did not specify that in the video. Endlesspens gets Lamys somehow, but they do not come with manufacture warranty. Outside of that, the pen is relatively high, if you can get it for 200 or so, that's a good sale price from authorized retailers.
@@KenchanKrafts I got a Lamy 2000 for 150€ from Amazon. Clearly gray market.
It was full of dry ink and it was not writing (there’s a short on my channel that proves that, if you want).
I sent it back.

@@reveme I don’t trust Amazon sellers for grey market unless it’s Amazon Japan. But yes, exercise caution when shopping in grey market.

Hey there! The notebook in this video is the Hobonichi A5 Techo from 2023 with original Tomoe River paper! My other reviews I’ve used the hobonichi notebook, which is also TR paper.
