That sounds like your disc faults a severe scratch in it. It also depends on the quality of your drive; I also suggest that X4 is pretty standard for burning because you have to take into account the CD drive speed.

No this won't ruin the original disc and yes the PS2 will be able to still read it afterwards.
can you use wincdemu or poweriso to achieve the same result?
Poweriso yes but I'm not sure about wincdemu since I've never used that program.
