How to KEEP WARM In Freezing Conditions
Having a great winter sleep system that keeps you warm while out backpacking with a tent, is a must! In this video I share highlights of a wild winter trip in my Hillleberg Soulo, and the exact sleep system I used to keep me toasty warm throughout the very cold night. I also share many other helpful sleep system tips for whatever gear you decide to buy.

Nice video, with a lot of great tips. I did notice though, that it looked like the foot end of your sleeping bag was brushing up against the inner tent of your Soulo.
If you experience that the foot end of your sleeping bag gets wet as a result of that, you can pull your waterproof jacket over the bottom part of your sleeping bag, to make a waterproof barrier between the foot end of your sleeping bag and the tent 👍🏻👍🏻🇳🇴

Thank you! Yes, good tip for keeping the end of my sleeping bag dry. Glad you enjoyed my video. All the best. ⛺️😀

Amen on never being able to overinvest in a sleeping bag. When conditions are marginal, the more warmth the better!

So true! It’s funny as I’ve never been in really cold places overnight and thought to myself, “I wish I bought the cheaper sleeping bag!” 🤣

Hi Barry, great advice once again. I liked the curling up advice and have done this many times and I feel it definitely works. Very well done on the views that you have got on this. ATB Tom

Haha. I generally get too hot walking in long pants so shorts help me regulate my temperature more. :)

I wish winter gear meant camping in shorts. As someone who doesn't generate much body heat, I'll toss a couple disposable handwarmers into my sleeping bag. My camp outs are usually for a couple of nights so I'm not adding too much extra weight. I used to fill a Nalgene bottle with hot water and place it in my sleeping bag but it does take away camping time to boil the water. Another thing I would add is using the Helly Hansen 3-layer of dress: base layer, insulation layer, outer layer.

Great tips! Some people also put clothes in their sleeping bag to reduce the empty space and warm them up quicker. All the best. 👍🏼

@@wildmountainman1 I tried putting clothes at the end of my sleeping bag but since I don't generate enough body heat, the clothes don't get warm.

I think your idea of a hot water bottle or heat pads are probably the best option. In other words, add heat if you find it difficult to generate it. 😎

    Great tips again.
If I can add some more value.
Odd but true. I found using a 1 season bag inside of a 3 season is even warmer than my 4 seasons bag ywt, the two bags pack up more conveniently....I guess it's down to the layering effect.
Also, my self inflating mat is soooooo much warmer than my air mattress.
Hat, gloves, socks and wear as many of the clothes you are already dragging around the countryside😉😎

That sounds really interesting about layering your sleeping bags. I’ve thought about it before, but not actually done it. Glad it worked for you.
