How to replace Clock Spring - Fix Air Bag light and horn on Nissan Titan

  • Learn how to turn off your airbag light by replacing your clock spring. This DIY is very simple and saved me a lot of money. Plus, it should only take about an hour to do. I will show you how to remove the steering wheel and airbag so you can replace the clockspring using basic tools that you probably already have laying around the house. I will also show you how to ensure the clock spring is centered.
The air bag light was flashing on my 2009 Nissan Titan LE. After doing some research I found out that about 80% of the time the problem is the clock spring. I found one here: www.quirkparts.com for my vehicle.

Appreciate the video, had to replace the audio steering wheel controls, the coating was completed gone and looked horrible. This was the only place I could find a break down. I have a 2005 that I bought new, best truck I have ever owned, current restoring it piece by piece, price of a new truck is insane!

Thank you for explaining the rotations part. I see plenty of videos that just install the clockspring and put it all together. For the longest time I was not sure if the new one is automatically centered or if they had missed a step and forgot to do the 2.6 rotations. You are the best!

Thank You Sir. Very Helpful and I especially appreciate You taking time to show "every" step unlike some other channels that skip the "small" steps just assuming we will know what to do. I'd rather someone like You showing me something I do know rather than not showing (but assuming I know) and I end up running into a problem like not knowing about a screw or clip, etc. Thank You Sir! I am going to "Subscribe" just as soon as I finish this message! I just bought a 2007 Nissan Titan and will need someone like You to show me how to do repairs. I typed into TH-cam that my horn won't shut off and it brought me to videos such as Yours about changing the clockspring so I guess thats the problem. Thanks.

My 2011 Corolla LE has cruise control. The clock spring I bought on Amazon worked fine but there was a module snapped onto the back of the old clockspring for the steering sensor. I was able to put that module onto the clockspring I bought and then everything matched up.
Depending on what comes with your new clockspring you may need to reuse that steering sensor on the new one.

To remove the steering wheel easily back the nut off a few turns but do not remove it. With your feet firmly planted on the floor grab the wheel and stand with all your weight pulling at the wheel. Gently rock it back and forth a bit and it should pop off with out hitting you in the face.

I absolutely can't get past this step. Your hand obscures the camera so I can't tell what you pushed to seat the harness into the clock spring assembly. I'm taking a break from the cursing so I don't damage something 🥴
