Quite different rendering. BS is more soft, CS definitively more bite. Seems notes are more legato in the BS.

Thank you. With this video it is clarified that this app is not yet useful. The staccatos and pizz. are way too quiet, almost inaudible. It is the opposite way with the English Horn. I just bought an iPad Pro 2020 and StaffPad and waisted £1.700 on something that is by far not useable yet. The handwriting recognition isn’t great either, it is much faster to work in Sibelius, which sounds better with noteperformer. I used this a bit here to make an app review. But I think it needs to pointed out, as the TH-cam videos out here made me buy this and it turns out it is majorly flawed. Thank you for taking the effort and making this video!

Hi, thanks for posting. Unfortunately I don’t agree with any of your statements, but you know, everyone has the rights to have his own opinion. The purpose of this video was to show a comparison of two different libraries with a pure out-of-the-box renditions. The 2 points you noted (pizz and english horn) are easily addressable with minimum editing (which I didn’t performed because of the purpose stated before). Comparing Staffpad to Sibelius doesn’t make much sense to me; just as a starting point they run on 2 totally different platforms. Being a user of Sibelius and note performer (and a fan of Arne Wallander work since more than 10 years) I would say that Staffpad has by a far a more advanced rendition engine as you can verify simply listening to a lot of examples at FB Staffpad user group. I find Staffpad totally usable (and becoming better at any update) and feel really sorry if this video gave you the perception that it is not. Again the purpose of the video was not to show how “real” it sounds but to compare 2 librarie out-of-the-box.

Gianfranco Calvi I know that the purpose was the comparison. Please don’t take my statement as a criticism to your video, not meant at all. As you will have read by now, I like your videos a lot. I am rather frustrated with Staffpad at the moment, especially with the quiet staccatos... but you just write something very important: that there are regular updates and improvements - that gives me hope and I will get in touch with staffpad again. Apologies for sounding negative, I did not mean to be rude to you. Thank you

TobiasSebastien no worries. I’m also frustrated by the different levels of staccato and legato notes in different libraries....but I have similar situations in my Daw with logic and kontakt. Consistency is something that needs a bit of editing in almost every platform (I have to admit that note perfomer is one of the more consistent solutions from this point of view). Keep your faith in Staffpad; it is a very promising solution and having this level of quality in a really mobile hardware is a dream come true. I hope that in the long run you will find it satisfying as find it 👍

I love the workflow with StaffPad, despite the annoying fact, that I have to enter things man, many times. But I just spent 8 hours to make a version of what I wrote on StaffPad with the Spitfire BBC Orchestra library and tried to make two other with the Studio Library and VSL, but my a0 my computer can’t handle that anymore and b) it just took too long. This workflow is definitely a creativity killer and writing in StaffPad very pleasing experience. But I can’t get the staccato problem fixed with editing, I tried but, either the previous tenuto note will be brought up before its finished or the next staccato note will be cut off. How do you solve that?

TobiasSebastien Can you post an example of the problem you get with the tenuto note ? Which library are you using ? I remember a problem with the tenuto note in BS but it should have been fixed. Anyway if you post the example to staffpad help desk they will check the problem. As for staccato being too low in some library and too high in some other, I change the the dynamic mark or change the volume curve.
