I spoke with someone about social media managing and they were hyper focused on how many followers they could get me, but told me that they couldn’t help with sales. It’s good to know that there are social media managers who will align their focus with their client’s goals.

Can I just say THANK YOU for mentioning that this is not a A-B-C process. Nothing was more stressful than moving from university and learning the clean steps to be thrown in to a company and having to build out the strategy while working on the content.

If I may offer some advice, have been researching/learning all things online for almost 2 yrs. Been fortunate to, take my time sorta, but I would offer: If you do serious research, read, watch, and can verbally explain the fundamentals, you will be way ahead of many that are already working for clients. Learn and start on one platform, everyone usually has the main one they work off and then slowly, more importantly steadily build on others. Lastly, like @latashajames, be honest, don't claim to be proficient on a platform and not be able, rather explain your working on it, but I have set up ways to have it outsourced. Your honest and still able to do the job. That's huge in building rapport. Hope it was useful, let's all party on the mountaintops! 😊

This is great information, definitely helped confirm my approach for creating a SMM strategy for my first client (ever)! If you’re managing more than 1 channel, should you have a separate strategy for each one?
You may have similar strategies and things that work (kind of like an outline) but it is important to customize it to each client. Every client will have different goals/needs so they will need a different strategy. Good luck!
