He was honestly the sweetest human being. He helped my mom lose 150lbs and he actually called her to encourage her. He was as real as it gets especially when there were no cameras around.
I met him at a hotel where I worked in college. The minute he hit the door, he was a ball of energy. I was on the phone and he came by screaming in his way "Helllllo! Hello hotel person!!!" The person I was talking to asked me as a joke if Richard Simmons was with me. Ha! He was fantastic!
I so wanted Richard to come back to the show - heartbroken it won't happen now. He was one of a kind and his Stern show moments are just the best. RIP ❤
They broke the mould when Richard when was born. A beautiful human & larger than life. You couldn’t help but love him. He’ll be missed 😢 But what a life ❤
Richard went to school at FSU and I have seen him very low key on campus several times. Richard had class, warmth and a genuine presence. Always a Seminole and we are so proud he was part of our Unconquered Seminole Nation. RIP and thank you for being such a good person.
Thanks for this tribute! 💐 I couples of months before he passed, I felt the urge to send him a message of gratitude; I did so, through his website. He responded warmly. I'll treasure that tiny interaction on top of so much joy and inspiration he emanated.
I’ve been a Stern fan since the 80s. Some of Richard’s visits were some of the best media I ever heard period whether tv, radio, film, or print. Seriously. I’m ashamed to admit some of the best visits were when Howard poked fun at Richard, even driving him to tears, but I’m proud to also say it was heartwarming for him to come back to the show and having Howard and Richard find a middle ground where they could be their better selves. Thanks so much to Richard for being such a great guest, friend to the show, and such a great help to so many people.
Thanks for this. My ❤ is still broken that he's gone. I was blessed to meet him 3x and he sent me an email 3 weeks before he passed that I'll treasure forever!!
The best and most wonderful thing about him, was just him being himself, which isn't so easy, if you're unique but that's also what made him so lovable.
IMO the best guest ever. Still held on to the cassette tapes of his visits. The ONLY TIME I heard my momma laugh when the show was playing in our home was when Richard was on - and when Howard did Ted and Joan Kennedy. Miss you Momma. Thank you Richard. Thank you Stern show.😘😘😘💚💙
I remember one gloomy Friday playing hooky from school and listening to Stern on 92.3 KRock….Richard Simmons was the guest and Alice Cooper was the mystery guest. Great show.
Of all the celebrities I've seen over my 60+ years, there are three whose passing hit me a little harder than the rest: John Ritter, Robin Williams, and Richard Simmons. RIP to all of them.
Richard was a great guest, and his appearance on Whose line is it, was one of the best moments!! I just wonder if Richard liked Howard or Dave Letterman better..
Richard Simmons was the kindest and most genuine person ever. You can tell what a loss it was for everyone in their voices.
Fred's Richard Simmons' "GARY?!" drops always cracked me up. 😂

The world is lesser without him. An incredible loss.

About time, Richard was such a big part of the show. I was worried Howie wasn’t going to give him a tribute after all the drama.
