He enters the room and the lady says "Is he the one who had the DRUG problem?", what a way to start a chat. Artie being so sensitive, covers it with "Had is the keyword". Artie also says "guy's an amazing talent robin, and all you remember is drugs?". Really appreciate Artie covering for Mitch here multiple times. It must have been so mentally traumatic and embarrassing for Mitch to face all those problems and here all these people talk about is his drug problem, 'his' being the keyword. They talk about the Lemo incident, and she out of the blue says, "Yeah Artie is right, I remember the stories about the things he would do to get Drugs.". Just wtf. Either something is wrong with her or she carries a grudge against him of some kind. She also asks "what's your stand up about?" like he is a nobody. Whole thing is pretty sad, not watching further.

They manage to come up with $100 a day collecting metal from construction sites and aluminum cans. The ones who I have known who panhandle make around 80-180 a day. I don't know many people who can scrounge up an extra $6k a month in addition to living costs. Plus heroin wasn't Mitch's only habit. I have no doubt it played a major factor in whatever money troubles he had. Making it seem like homeless addicts have it easy is a weird move.

It is hard enough just to make people laugh (personally I think it is the hardest reaction/emotion to evoke) but to then do it in a truly unique way is something that not many people can do. Mitch Hedberg was not only hilarious but he was about as original as you can get.

For some context - Mitch was not on the show to be interviewed, he was there to sit in on the news. It was most likely a last second thing to help Mitch sell tickets to a show that week and probaly was something Artie helped happen. It would happen often and what happened here is the usual - talk to the guest a bit, but then go on with the normal show (like taking phone calls about something that came up earlier) mixing the guest in a bit as it goes along. Robin probably had no idea Mitch was going to be on and the only thing she remembered about him (this is only 2nd time on) were drug stories him and Artie told the first time. Not defending her, but Mitch showing up probably threw her off a bit and she might have been mad that he was interrupting her news segment, not sure. Chances are, that day was booked solid, so letting Mitch come on and push his show like this meant that Howard had to like him at least a little, but I don’t think Mitch’s comedy (more joke telling) was a great fit for sitting in like this and while people keep saying Mitch was offended or uncomfortable, I think Mitch was really nervous - even more so than usual

Really? He seemed full of life???!?! At this point he was on That 70's Show and was making great money and he was High as a kite during taping and even in this interview and he only made it on here because his people kept him from doing more drugs leading up to this appearance. He's still CLEARLY high here and his jitteriness shows how much he was jonesing for a hit of whatever he could get his hands on.
He was so bad that his stand up "routine" was just a bunch of the few recycled jokes he could remember. His death was completely inevitable as getting and staying high held the highest priority and he continued to tour just to feed his habits.
Pathetic waste of sheer brilliance if you ask me.

Kind of harsh but he has been popping up in my feed and I had to come find an interview because I feel bad for the guy. Seems he doesn't even want to be on stage. Hides behind his glasses, eyes shut and has his hair covering for extra protection. And everyone keeps praising him for something that seems to be more of a crutch than an aid.
And his jokes were like oddly delivered one-liners dads would tell. Funny observations but so sad to watch a man deteriorate in front of everyone.
Your comment stood out from the people praising him and it might be a more reasonable observation than those mourning his departure.
