I like how turkey-neck and stiff-fingers Greg Ginn tortures the audience with a mass amount of bad eccentric jamming till he finally gets to the song that everyone just wanted to hear in the first place - It's like a punk grateful dead concert (but without the acid) - everyone just has to last through the 25 minute bad jam session to finally cash in and sing along to the songs they know have to come at some point.... Ginn is totally punk cause he dont care. "I don't care...What you say anyway"
Ginn's playing can be so anarchic and brilliantly out of control, deliberately wrangling out atonal chaos that is meant to be unhinged and provocative. It is brave and totally original. But on a bad night it can just plain crap, like someone's drunk dad grabbed your guitar and the other two guys just make the best of it. You can decide for yourself which one this is. :)
I think it’s Badass that’s the point!! His playing is original he don’t need practice that’s his sound his whimzie anarchist to the way anything is supposed to sound love it
I'm so glad I got to see them in Dallas with Ron Reyes singing before Mike V took over. Apparently later on that tour they had problems with Reyes and Mike V's band was opening on that tour, so Mike V took over on vocals. I can't consider this Black Flag though. When you only have one original member and it's not even the singer, it's not really them.
Like DEAD KENNEDYS without Jello. I know, Jello would be a nobody without a great band behind him (in the punk world, they are virtuosos), but he was/is a hell of a frontman.
I saw BF in November. Drummer was grest Mike V. On vocals great and also as frontman. Extending "slip it in" and Can't decide" to 12 minute songs was a bit much. The show had some great songs and some not so great.
They sound great but are doing themselves a disservice calling it Black Flag. Why attempt that legacy? I can appreciate that its Ginn's choice to do what he wants with the name, but this isnt Black Flag in the same way Pantera is no longer Pantera. At the very least tho Phil acknowledges Dime and Vinnie profusely during the shows. Does Ginn acknowledge the mere existence of Chuck? Or Ron,Dez,Kira,Robbo,Bill, Henry,Chavo,Keith or anyone else? If he does thats a step at least. Even if they toured the east coast I couldn't bring myself to go. A bit blasphemous.
The problem with your analogy is that Pantera was a team of dudes, Black Flag has always been Greg Ginns band. Dude controlled everything from the start whether it be the music, the business, the booking. Henry Rollins often talks about how he was just a mouthpiece for Ginn when people try and complement him on the music. I agree it’s definitely better with all the other guys tho, Flag IIII sounds way better than this incarnation of black flag. But I saw this lineup a few months ago and it was still a fun concert, all the guys were super sweet and hung out with the fans afterward. I got to talk with Ginn for like 20 minutes about guitar nerd stuff and that made my night
bro is busting a nut while delivering these guitar rifts
always with the new bass players/drummers.... no matter how many churn through this band you can never top Duke
That’s a straight up fact. The Duke was hugely important to this bands legacy. This is a shell of what once was.
LSD
Duke is toppable.
that pause at 9:08 made the whole room go NUTS when i saw them in sacramento
That into was freaking awesome!
They sound amazing!!!!

Live is even more unreal it just builds so much

Greg didnt play his guitar .. he feel it. :-)
GREAT show! Saw them in Hobart Indiana and the sound quality doesn't translate on TH-cam. See them live!
Fake flag
I was at that show! Just seen 'em again at the Forge in Joliet
@titoramone4465 awesome! I was thinking about Joliet too but didn't go.
@@titoramone4465 last nite at Arcada was awesome, seen 5 times since Milwaukee 86 great every time!
Pretty good prison cover band
😆😅😄🤣
lol
It seems to be Mike Vallely on vocals.
It is. One BAD ASS MOTHERFker
You're right, it's Mike Vallely on vocals. I like him I think he's
great for the current Black Flag lineup. Good choice Greg.☺️🎸🎶
Jazz Flag

Greg, for the love of God, retire.
How to consciously destroy a band’s legacy and turn into a pale imitation of yourself and know it.

Tbh, Mike sounds a lot like Henry live. He doesn't try to on purpose, I just think he does a great job
Charlie is the only original UK Subs member left and he and band rocks out every show. I would consider his band every bit of thd Subs name!!
Mike V is black flags new vocalist ? Wtf
Is this a different line up from 2017?

Il n y a plus Rollins ???
Since 86 buddy 😂
They need practice.
No way! This is how punk rock is supposed to sound! LOL! But I guess though... To each their own.
Greg Ginn always played like that. Go listen to Justin The Beaver if you don't like it...
You need a proctologist
Practice practice what the hell are you talking about this sounds sick. You obviously have absolutely no idea what punk rock is all about.
It's fucking Punk rock.....
I've got tons of respect for Mike V. As a skater and musician, but not for this karaoke band.
💯💯
The drummer riscs some brazilian beats.

The way the bass player looks at Greg as if to say come on we got a show to do this seems a bit of compared to a normal black flag show 😞😞😞😞
Puppet show
And
Black Flag
IMO that overplaying was a little had to watch, feels like i waited all that for him to not even nail that OG FILL
Is that Greg? Doesn’t have the same strip club energy.

he is spitting all over the drum set lol wtf
Flag is better.
Sad.
black flag.......lol
This is just a sad parody of a real band that has long ago lost all substance.
just awful
Sounds like the entire Process of Weeding Out lp as the intro. Yawn.
It's a good band, but it's not BLACK FLAG. Hat down to Greg, but BF is more then his guitar
le mec n'a plus de voix... c'est horrible
Sounds, but it's NOT
Terrible, very weak.
Black Flag was finished by 1979
Vallely does Rollins well otherwise he sucks. Eff you Ginn!!
FALSE FLAG
