- Directed/written by Terrence Malick and based on real events, "A Hidden Life" is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl) who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife, Franziska (Valerie Pachner), and children that keeps his spirit alive.
August Dieh a guy who scares you with his Nazi performances turns to be really a humble and chill guy, man I swear he is a underrated actor
omg so true. whenever i watch his interviews I'm like... this guy played major hellstrom? lol
Inglorious actor
August Diehl is
a philosophical and great actor.
At first sight, his fans have noticed it.
He is a cousin, a great actor too
I don’t think he’s underrated at all. He’s very highly regarded.
I am russian and recently we released the film "The Master and Margarita" based on Bulgakov's novel, where August Diehl perfectly played the role of Woland. everyone in Russia is delighted with how Diehl played Satan, he is so strong, courageous, handsome, charismatic... I sincerely admire his talent, he played a Nazi, the Devil and a Saint and every time it was brilliant. August said that he feels a special connection between Germany and Russia and I completely agree with him. in our Orthodoxy there is a Holy German of Russian origin - Alexander Shmorel, who fought Hitler, among Catholics such a Saint was Franz Jaegerstetter, played by August. I can't find the words to describe all the love for the movie "The Secret Life", it's the best movie I've ever watched. I don't think I can find anything better than this movie. I literally cried throughout the film... I'm surprised that not many people know about this film, although such deep pictures cannot perceive absolutely everything.

It's nice to know I'm not alone following August Diehl into this Terrence Malick movie after his role as Woland. Be strong, fellow Russian.
Woland 🔥🔥🔥 (The Master and Margarita 2024). Thank you, August.
Only August Diehl can play a saint and then the Devil himself, and do both to perfection.
Movies like this gets lost among MCU and Fast furious blockbusters. What a shame most people won't be able to see this, and what an honor for the ones who saw it. That goes for you too, you reader. I know you watching this cause you saw it.❤️
Channel surfing last night, stumbled across this on HBO. It was like a meditation. Moving, contemplative. Watched it again today. Grateful I found it.
Mmm true. And I will watch it again this week. There is one scene in the Berlin prison where Frank is praying to God who is all light while you look at the light at the far end of a corridor, a prison corridor suffused with a pale radiance and then cuts to majestic mountains. How small we are, how vast the light which Frank can sense ... It left me stunned.
I have seen another film, 'of gods and men' which shares the same depth.
This is a beautiful movie. August Diel and Valerie Pachner gave so much justice to the movie. Thank you very much Terrence Malick for this wonderful movie.
This was the movie I had to see and by far the best I've seen in at last the last ten years.
Some of the most poignant moments are portrayed by looks and not words. Simply magnificent.
He is really adorable. Russia was impressed!
I love this movie. This is very very beautiful with its timeless theme of simply saying no when the entire world is for the yes. The actors are so brilliant, the austrian landscape is very very scenic, and the verisimilitude is very very organic.
Normally I would google verisimilitude, but I suspect your definition would be better ? And I agree(?) I just watched it with the sound off, just for the visuals
I like how he said he missed the mountains when he was in prison. I would of liked to have seen some of his best memories with her as we seen her best memories with him. The film broke my heart by the way, because she was so supportive of whatever decision he would of made at the end.
Very intelligent questions and enlightening answers from both Valerie and August that shed much light on the unique acting/directing process behind this beautiful but heartbreaking movie by Terrence Malick.
August in Voland super ! ❤
This is FILM! The fils has to give you something! After i watched this, till that day i didnt forget ir, i still feel the pain and i didnt roll over it! It was a masterpiece! The act of the actress and actor just unbelievebal! This is what film meaning! One if the best what i ever seen!
This is an amazing movie! I was especially struck to the heart by the dialogue between Augustus and the artist in the temple. And all further events
I love this movie so much. Its so beautiful and terrible all at once and made me cry a few times. I think its Mr Malick's best film. Valerie Pachner has beautiful eyes. Her and August Diehl are so real in it.
August is a force of nature in terms of talent
I wept buckets at this movie. Beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted and a great story.
Are you a man?
@@huskyfaninmass1042 I am.
One of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen. The acting was amazing and that, along with the beauty of Austria, was a cinematic experience beyond words. 🙏❤️ My heart was deeply moved. I just can’t say enough about it. Excellent!!!
Love from Russia ❤he is awesome
Great interview 👏
I loved this movie. So well acted, so beautiful. Going into it, I was expecting something different. at first it seemed slow to me. But I was so intrigued and allowed the story to come to me - wash over me. I found myself thinking what would I have done (and sadly I fear I know my answer). I realized WWII was just the backdrop- it could fit with what’s going on today. When do you just say NO. This movie moves your heart, your mind. Thank you!!!!
Amazing movie amazing performances
Beautiful movie! I loved the scenery in Robert Redford’s “A River Runs Through It” filmed in Montana, but this movie was at least as beautiful.
The interviewer should really do his homework better. Michael Nyqvist, another talented European actor, who played the bishop and passed away in 2017, and the interviewer didn't pick up on that?!
The movie itself offered me probably beyond all cinematic experience I've had on many levels. Bravo, Terrence Malick.
Off all the Build Series interviews, he's the worse.
Even Russell Crowe were furiously walked away from him when he promoted 'Loudest Voice"
Fantástico este ator
I have a feeling that August Diehl looks almost similar to the late German actor Klaus Kinski
Good point. Yes, he does.
Off topic, but I luv the interviewer's place & set-up!
Valerie got no Instagram. It kills me
I am head over heels for her too
Major. Esslltrom gênio 😂😂
😍🙈 August Diehl 🤗
Beautiful Film.
Might I Enquire?
Why was this cut short?! Mid speech!
Valerie is such a cute, funny, and beautiful girl.
Excellent cinematography, main drawback is lack of editing. This 3 hour movie could easily be 2 hours with no loss
I read your comment before watching the movie, and I just watched it today for the first time and I totally disagree. I did not look at the time once. I think every scene had its purpose. It was very well done
@@victorious1503 you have more patience than I do
@@victorious1503 i agree, for me the time was perfect.
I must get you to edit TM’s next film.
Very stylish intro
the host sucks. he makes it seem like he doesnt care about the actors/actresses.
The ecstasy of genius.
