Shame it has changed out of all recognition now no humour so I dont watch now. The characters were great all those years ago and the humour was wonderful. Good you are able to enjoy the old episodes.
😂Len and Ena are all over the place with their words in their first scene - and Alan's so over the top with his sudden bouts of intensity - fantastic. I loved Stan 'saving' Ernie when he forgot the word 'bushel' - presumably he dried! Irma is wonderful - thanks again for another lovely episode. PS You notice I never even mentioned the appalling Kenneth this time...er...
@@grinsko6741 Hi, no, Len isn't in the first scene. My fault though, I should have written 'their' first scene (not 'the') - I've corrected it now!. Maybe this slight lack of 'form' was because this was the actor's return after two months' suspension because of his heavy drinking. (This is a great episode of course, but there are far more little verbal fluffs in it than usual. I wonder why they didn't do retakes?? They used to in those days!)
"Department S" was popular on TV around this time. While in 2024 it may be difficult to see Len Fairclough as a Jason King-style character, who knows what viewers thought in 1969.
David Barlow may well have been in Australia, but Alan Rothwell was just down the corridor at Granada Studios recording schools programme creep-fest "Picture Box". Presumably he was asked but didn't want to go back to Coronation Street. Ken changed his tune quickly about Val's job, but I guess the plot had to move on. Several months of hair salon stories to be done from now on. Bernard Butler nowhere near as good with the ladies as Rene Artois was...
@@stevecharlemagne4496 Yeah. As a kid who watched Picture Box in school in the early 80s, I was grateful to see the reassuring face of Alan Rothwell after THAT music and THAT rotating box.
I left for Australia two weeks before this was on air , and I’m watching it in Australia 55 years later ,❤

What a great episode. Showing Annie's nasty side and Hilda as a proud mum. Thanks again for these.
This episode is SOO key to the plotlines. It's been so missed! Thank you so much for posting.
Hell hath no fury like a Walker on the war path! Really love these episodes! Thankyou ❤
When corry WAS PROPER corry !
The old cornation street is the best love this.

Made me think - Stan knowing such a word when Ernie didn't... surely that can't be right! 🤣
@@ianandorkeith 😂Exactly what I thought!
I think it’s Len and Hilda.

Anne Reid AND Sandra Gough
Was 9 months old when this aired
23:02 Ray foreshadows his real life future.
The guy (Bernard) that comes to the Ogdens at 16:09 is Gordon Kaye...aka Rene Artois from Allo Allo! I recognised his voice before even his face 😊
The fact my mum and dad weren’t even born when this episode aired..
Return of Peter Adamson who had been suspended for 2 months due to alcohol problems.
I think the moustache suited Len.

Nearly Christmas and decorations , must be a parralel universe or all Mormons 😂😂

The Picture Box theme is eeringly haunting.
