I played E.D. incessantly from 2015 to 2018, when Frontier decided to kill the game. This could have been (and perhaps still can be) the best game of its kind on all platforms, but the incompetence and disrespect towards users was stronger.
@@oddball1975 i have heard some games can make the server non centralised run console via console and/or pc to pc rather than using main servers that can be used if the main server shuts down but i think theres pros and cons to the method
Man i'm just so sad that Elite is going the way it is. As an explorer who started on Xbox early access, Distant Worlds Expedition was the golden age of Elite and one of the best space game experiences i've ever had. I eventually got a PC and wanted Odyssey for extra planets to explore but I want to chat back with my mates on Xbox but since Fdev dropped us all after making us wait 9 months, people just upped and left from that mad disrespect. Elite could be one of the greatest space sims but its ultimately the pursuit over money above all which killed this and so many other game titles.
You make your own fun in this game. We don't need new content, we make our own way, we decide how we want to play. We have 1v1s, bounties, pirating, attack and extort other players bgs. I've been playing hard for 7 months and I still haven't scratched the surface. I've got 6 new guys I'm helping ATM. Ppl still play and there's nothing like it out there. I'll be here till they turn the lights off.
I played this game for 5 years straight and loved it! Got to the point i had every ship and duplicates all fully engineered for specific jobs. Finally put it down after that decision to update pc only. That really ticked me off. 😎

They close the servers down. They will go belly up. They killed a large number of players off because they canceled console support. If they shut down legacy. They will yet again slash down their player base. I don't see that happening
You bring up some great points. This was my first experience with Elite Dangerous. I didn't play or even see any before this one. I was really not happy with the game at first. What kind 8f space game sticks you in a cockpit with extremely limited views? Why does it take forever to get anywhere? My god! 13 minutes real time to fly to a station to complete a mission for 24k credits? I played it for a week or two and uninstalled it. I didn't think about it again for probably a year. Then I ran across a Obsidian Ant or maybe Yamik video. I was amazed. How could that be the same slow odd game I tried? I gave it another go. I checked out some lore. I started to understand what Elite is and how it's intended. It's a brilliant game that I hope doesn't continue to completely fall apart

I remember walking into my girlfriends house in the 80’s and her brother was playing this wireframe space simulator that didn't have three lives and didn't have a score. I watched for enough time for my girlfriend to lose her patience and we quickly departed for a night out. When we got back he was still on it and told me about elite. The following Saturday Ibought the Sinclair and the game and never looked back.
He's right about people not really knowing about it. I put thousands of hours in EVE just to get sick of paying monthly, seeing this game, saying "why not" then getting my first HOTAS and instantly regretting putting all that time and money into EVE when ED is just plain better (my opinion). I don't care if there is no new content coming, the same already has more than enough to play solo or multi-crew with my partner for years to come. I just hope they can keep the lights on, or sell it to a company that will.
if they merved the pc and xbox legacy servers/universes then it would draw more people as it would be more active again. If both have lost numbers then merge them. I know why they have them seperate but it means they can recuse server cost
One of the reasons they didn’t merge was because of Microsoft and Sony having to approve updates and the potential effect on PC. As there are no more updates I feel they should at lease merge Xbox & PS. Not sure how much work this would be for them however.

I played on xbox one ALOT with my friends and we were learning from some other Pilots who played longer. And we eventually all got anacondas. I have a few ships and I was mainly a trader and I did do exploration in the beginning and I did do some Combat missions mainly eliminate 20 enemies in a combat zone for like 600k credits. BUT I stopped playing because odyssey wasnt coming to console and when they said it wasnt I kinda slowed down playing then stopped. BUT I'm getting back into Elite Dangerous and I'm probably going to be doing trade missions maybe Outfit my anaconda to do Trade only, I did try mining and it was ok and fun but yeah I'm probably gonna hop back on.
8:24 The % on shields is my favourite thing, if they just added this to console the game would be complete. Also I haven’t really done anything “Odyssey” on PC. I really should look at the atmospheric planets and new SRV at some point 🤔. I walked around my Fleet Carrier and did a jump from the bridge once. That’s the thing about walking around, I did it once. I predicted, for me at least, it would be a one time event and then forgotten.
Starfield has its own strengths but def doesn't scratch the space travel itch. I needed space travel, not fast travel. For that reason I'm back on ED. Not exactly new to the game but still pretty newby. Been on open play lately but haven't seen any other players. Where are you all operating? I think I'm still within jump range of Sol system.
Been playing ED on My One X for about 2 years and im still on the Local Cluster, so much to do... I hppe they never shut the servers down. Also have ED on PC but dont know how to port my profile and stuff so i dont play it there.
@@angelocruz525 Fdev did a special thing to port over for a limited time now I think they will only port over cash balance not ranks modules and ships and progression and ranks.
I second your opinion of making it something like EvE, but keeping that ED immersive feeling. Especially in the sound department. I have never played another sim that made me feel my ship fighting against the forces of physics. It makes me feel the struggle my ship faces while I'm pushing her to her limits. I especially love the muscle car feel of the vipers. Soooo good! o7

Theres a option to allow a multiplayer game to keep running if the main servers shut down where its runned on pier to pier via each players pc/console instead of servers
Yeah for me I feel like there's enough for me to do with the game we have that I'm not too bothered by not getting any more updates, the issue I have is the nagging feeling that my time is limited, I don't have a decent PC or laptop nor the money for it, so I don't like this feeling of uncertainty in how long the servers will remain open. Hopefully by the time consol servers shut off I'll be able to switch to pc
I play elite dangerous on PS5 today september 2024 and went exploring to "musca dark region hm-v c2-9" I was attacked by thargoids and a huge mothership. Wow. Go get them.

I had 6k hours in elite on xbox. Its dead on console now. Our squadron had over 200 members. After they abandoned console most left. I still play on pc, but even there its just about in maintenance mode. The new updates are minimal effort at best.
@oddball1975 yup. There are a few stragglers. But 2 years ago or so, we were much busier. We routinely had 10 to 15 people in our xbox party every night . Our player activity was quite high. Nowadays we have a bit over 50 on pc, but most never play. We have a steady 6 or 7 I'd say.
The game has so much potential, but Frontier dropped the ball and will not put any more significant money into it... Hopefully Frontier sells it to a company that will... 💥
They're definitely not pushing this game advertising ( 8:24 and anyway on PlayStation. I look for a game to play on playstation because my daughter has my computer and I'm never getting it back 2 years of looking and I found elite I consider it a PlayStation replacement for Eve online which I have like eight or ten years playing about 12 years playing Eve online. But I love the cockpit view that's what and no I'm not big on landing on but I do love the raxxla. They want this game to go somewhere they should definitely glamorize the raxxla mystery story line even go as far as complaining that it's been in the game but the game so big nobody found it yet I would play that up. Honestly at this point they should only give us the option to get out of the ships and walk around planets. We dont really need anything else from them at this point. Just let us get out of the ships and walk around stations. 🙄
Where’s like a busy area to go to on console after the starter zone? I’ve been playing a little bit over the last week and just been doing courier/trading missions to get started
I backed ED and was playing from the original beta on PC all the way up to the release of Odyssey. I was a fan of the original Elite back in 1984, and I just wanted to play a good space flight trading/combat/exploration game. Personally, I think Odyssey killed the game and trying to put "space legs" into a space flight simulation was a mistake. Odyssey ran terribly on PC and basically killed console development, because it was so poorly optimised that FDev didn't have the resources to get it working properly on consoles, which caused the community to dwindle because people stopped playing. They should have concentrated on adding more ships, more alien races and more mission types. They didnt need to add walking to Elite. It's a space simulation, not a walking simulation. It didn't help that ED influencers like Obsidian Ant kept talking about space legs and when it might come as an add-on, which gave the idea a lot of traction, and I think FDev took this as meaning that everyone wanted it in the next add-on after Horizons. I decided to go back to the game recently, and bought the XBox version. I then decided to reinstall the PC version of Horizons, and what the heck have they done? It runs like a disaster, and the UI looks like it was designed by someone wearing a blindfold. I'm interested to see what Frontier Developments announce on Wednesday, but I'm not expecting it to be anything console related. And if it is, I hope they don't add that horrible new UI to the game.
Yeah the PC UI is nasty. I agree the getting out of the chair was the worst idea. They should have focused on VR and more ships at that is what most people wanted. Landing on othe planets would have been nice but no need to bolt on a 10 year old looking shooter that ruins the experience of ED.
Frontier really did us console peeps dirty by abandoning us like a sack of bricks. There are also trophy’s/achievements that will never get done because of it.
I’ve just cashed my PlayStation account cmdr in and FDev transferred that cash to an Xbox account so I can start again but with about 4bn BUT - more importantly - full 4k graphics on the Xbox sX instead of the crap 1080p my PS5 is running ED on. Plenty of things for me to do to chill out to, and the game looks soooo much better on my big screen LG CX in 4k HDR 👍👍 It’s like a new game!

Are you on about Inara the 3rd party tool? It is true they moved over to the live mode only. However that is a 3rd party tool that only works from data provided and shared by PC players. They did not want to have to do twice the work to run legacy and live so they went with the live version as more PC players play that.
My first day on this game for those that get vertigo and dizzy flying upside down right side up whatever. I tricked my brain by thinking of this face on flying in as water and that there is no upside down or right-side up what in an hour or so I really never experienced it anymore. In this game to fly and land at those floating space stations the smaller outposts😅 to manually land and find your designated spot which is easiest done upside down so to speak so the land in this game for me is upside down I'll bring my cockpit pretty close to Landon and then I left my ship right side up I stopped using the auto landing it can be funnier and faster to just do it yourself. Definitely mentally the strangest flying ever done except it's not flying butts floating kind of like a hot air balloon with boosters when you're landing at a station you're coming in upside down with your cockpit reading the number Bay if I ever start feeling like I'm upside down I just plant the idea in my head that the ground is under me and it goes away you can definitely get vertigo
@@oddball1975 yeah I noticed with fa off it's almost like when you try to stop from being interdicted is almost like the controls are preparing you for FFA off I find that a little hard to fly I think I better off would be easy to fly if I could feel the movement of the ship but I can't feel like I left float right float while I'm going forward

I still don’t understand why FD can’t make odyssey for new generation like series X and ps5 They can get it to work on mediocre pc toasters that the new generation could knock right out of the park. Oh well.
They can do it on the new consoles not the old. Sadly at the time Odyssey releases most people were still on the old consoles, due to the chip shortage. Maybe one day they will look again.
I think it has to do with the playstation and xbox store wanting too much of the sales in the Elite Dangerous game, the same reason why Epic and Fortnite canceled the agreement with apple and andriod.

How can people have a problem with being able to get out of your ship. Odyssey is what made me want to play the game. If Odyssey was on Xbox when starfield came out, Ed would have blew ALL THE WAY UP. Nobody wants to play AS A spaceship anymore!!! People want to play as a pilot who can exist in a galaxy where you can do stuff on foot, in vehicles and in ships. go from doing a fps mission on a random outpost on a planet, escape to your ship, leave the planet and fly somewhere else, go into a station handle some business, leave the station and get attacked by pirates and have to dog fight... The level of complexity and immersion that gets added simply by letting the player play outside of the ship. The type of mentality of a person who would rather stay stuck playing AS a ship would probably like GTA 6 better if it was a racing game where you never get out of the car. The players who rejected being able to get out of your ship are why the game failed. Flat out. Y'all are clueless for that.
Sorry but the FPS added looks 10 years old, the loss of canyon racing the rubbish planetary tech tbh Odessey offered little I personally wanted. It for me and the VR guys the point of the game. Does VR work on foot? Odd calling the people who got ditched by Fdev "clueless" and the reason the game failed. That is a odd point of view for sure. What did we do?

I'm at work rn watching 2024 Odyssey gameplay videos back to back to back and the fps elements look fine for a game that's nearly 10 years old. And the fact that Odyssey should be able to run on my laptop while star citizen (the game I actually want) can't, I'm probably going to get Odyssey when I get off work to scratch my SC itch. It seems like Odyssey is still very much alive on PC these days. The steam page has very positive recent reviews...

at some point they will turn the xbox side off though so nobody will be able to log in internet or not so it's not worth the hassle. I bought this on the promise of offline play but that's definitely not on the cards. People need to wake up to these types of games that are tied to always being online. A shame too as David Braben said it would be offline playable of course meaning this would have future proofed being always able to play the game
Yeah no offline means one day the server will turn off. Give the cost of running a server these days I doubt that will happen before the release a new Elite game in the far future.
When it come's to the use of a console to play ED. The answer to the titles question as to "WHAT NOW". Can be answered in one word. Planned OBSALESSENCE!!! Ok that's two word's and one is spelled incorrectly, but then I telling someone who is using a console to play ED. And regardless of your possible religious belief's. Trying to get back into this currently unplayable CONSTANTLY disconnected when I fsd in or out on xbox... 1200mbps internet hard wired never have I ever been disconnected playing this game until the past week or two its CONSTANT
Might as well be dead.. I play it on ps5 with a HOTAS setup.. I trade in open play with my homebase being Jameson Memorial.. I NEVER SEE ANYONE!!!! i just want to match make a wing but you can't...multicrew is still bugged.. all my friends stopped playing.. every fleet carrier never has anything for sale all decommissioned garages for players that never log in anymore.. just derelict ships.. The updates keep dividing the players.. I can't use space legs VR with my HOTAS on console anyway.. but come on... the fps was terrible.. I just want to buy a python mk2 but that is never gonna happen. Boring shit.. I'm sick of it taking an hour just to go out and kill a few pirates in a corvette just for the balance fuck ups to show up every 2 minutes during the fun part

Yeah the miss steps they took where shocking. Still the best space simm on Xbox but is game of look what you could have been.
Spent a small fortune on ship kits, decals and what not, and this is how Frontier treats me.
A lot of people feel that way but game still runs and I got some ungodly play time on it.

Yeah for me I feel like there's enough for me to do with the game we have that I'm not too bothered by not getting any more updates, the issue I have is the nagging feeling that my time is limited, I don't have a decent PC or laptop nor the money for it, so I don't like this feeling of uncertainty in how long the servers will remain open.
Hopefully by the time consol servers shut off I'll be able to switch to pc
More communication from fdev would help. I know exactly what you mean.
Biggest advantage of PC was switching to a hosas. Just feels so much better than the controller.
A lot of people use the one for Xbox but it breaks a lot.

I play elite dangerous on PS5 today september 2024 and went exploring to "musca dark region hm-v c2-9" I was attacked by thargoids and a huge mothership. Wow. Go get them.

I had 6k hours in elite on xbox. Its dead on console now. Our squadron had over 200 members. After they abandoned console most left.
I still play on pc, but even there its just about in maintenance mode. The new updates are minimal effort at best.
Which Xbox Squadron? Many people did leave but there are people playing.

@oddball1975 yup. There are a few stragglers. But 2 years ago or so, we were much busier. We routinely had 10 to 15 people in our xbox party every night . Our player activity was quite high. Nowadays we have a bit over 50 on pc, but most never play. We have a steady 6 or 7 I'd say.

@@ShaighJosephson they are putting a lot in Oddessey but nothing into the Legacy mode which all console players are on.
They're definitely not pushing this game advertising ( 8:24 and anyway on PlayStation. I look for a game to play on playstation because my daughter has my computer and I'm never getting it back 2 years of looking and I found elite I consider it a PlayStation replacement for Eve online which I have like eight or ten years playing about 12 years playing Eve online. But I love the cockpit view that's what and no I'm not big on landing on but I do love the raxxla. They want this game to go somewhere they should definitely glamorize the raxxla mystery story line even go as far as complaining that it's been in the game but the game so big nobody found it yet I would play that up. The cockpit view sold me what I meant to write
I think they should turn the game over to the players more. TBH the Raxxla mystery was wasted I know people that went deep down that rabbit hole.
Honestly at this point they should only give us the option to get out of the ships and walk around planets. We dont really need anything else from them at this point. Just let us get out of the ships and walk around stations. 🙄

Join a group AUX1 for example have 40+ active players. If you find a group that is active then you will see people.
I backed ED and was playing from the original beta on PC all the way up to the release of Odyssey. I was a fan of the original Elite back in 1984, and I just wanted to play a good space flight trading/combat/exploration game. Personally, I think Odyssey killed the game and trying to put "space legs" into a space flight simulation was a mistake. Odyssey ran terribly on PC and basically killed console development, because it was so poorly optimised that FDev didn't have the resources to get it working properly on consoles, which caused the community to dwindle because people stopped playing. They should have concentrated on adding more ships, more alien races and more mission types. They didnt need to add walking to Elite. It's a space simulation, not a walking simulation. It didn't help that ED influencers like Obsidian Ant kept talking about space legs and when it might come as an add-on, which gave the idea a lot of traction, and I think FDev took this as meaning that everyone wanted it in the next add-on after Horizons.
I decided to go back to the game recently, and bought the XBox version. I then decided to reinstall the PC version of Horizons, and what the heck have they done? It runs like a disaster, and the UI looks like it was designed by someone wearing a blindfold.
I'm interested to see what Frontier Developments announce on Wednesday, but I'm not expecting it to be anything console related. And if it is, I hope they don't add that horrible new UI to the game.
Yeah the PC UI is nasty. I agree the getting out of the chair was the worst idea. They should have focused on VR and more ships at that is what most people wanted. Landing on othe planets would have been nice but no need to bolt on a 10 year old looking shooter that ruins the experience of ED.
Frontier really did us console peeps dirty by abandoning us like a sack of bricks. There are also trophy’s/achievements that will never get done because of it.
It was shabby, as far as I know they did switch on a low low effort CG for people to be able to get the achievements I think they were forced to.
Pc players just got a new ship recently too

I’ve just cashed my PlayStation account cmdr in and FDev transferred that cash to an Xbox account so I can start again but with about 4bn BUT - more importantly - full 4k graphics on the Xbox sX instead of the crap 1080p my PS5 is running ED on. Plenty of things for me to do to chill out to, and the game looks soooo much better on my big screen LG CX in 4k HDR 👍👍 It’s like a new game!

I play on Xbox the servers are on and you can play the legacy version which is the same game as say 2 years ago.

The servers are still working. Check you drives and power make sure you thrusters are working.

Are you on about Inara the 3rd party tool? It is true they moved over to the live mode only. However that is a 3rd party tool that only works from data provided and shared by PC players. They did not want to have to do twice the work to run legacy and live so they went with the live version as more PC players play that.

My first day on this game for those that get vertigo and dizzy flying upside down right side up whatever. I tricked my brain by thinking of this face on flying in as water and that there is no upside down or right-side up what in an hour or so I really never experienced it anymore. In this game to fly and land at those floating space stations the smaller outposts😅 to manually land and find your designated spot which is easiest done upside down so to speak so the land in this game for me is upside down I'll bring my cockpit pretty close to Landon and then I left my ship right side up I stopped using the auto landing it can be funnier and faster to just do it yourself. Definitely mentally the strangest flying ever done except it's not flying butts floating kind of like a hot air balloon with boosters when you're landing at a station you're coming in upside down with your cockpit reading the number Bay if I ever start feeling like I'm upside down I just plant the idea in my head that the ground is under me and it goes away you can definitely get vertigo
Once you realise it is a flight sim where you can stop dead and reverse it is easy the you FA off and it becomes tougher.
@@oddball1975 yeah I noticed with fa off it's almost like when you try to stop from being interdicted is almost like the controls are preparing you for FFA off I find that a little hard to fly I think I better off would be easy to fly if I could feel the movement of the ship but I can't feel like I left float right float while I'm going forward

They can do it on the new consoles not the old. Sadly at the time Odyssey releases most people were still on the old consoles, due to the chip shortage. Maybe one day they will look again.

I think it has to do with the playstation and xbox store wanting too much of the sales in the Elite Dangerous game, the same reason why Epic and Fortnite canceled the agreement with apple and andriod.

How can people have a problem with being able to get out of your ship. Odyssey is what made me want to play the game. If Odyssey was on Xbox when starfield came out, Ed would have blew ALL THE WAY UP.

People want to play as a pilot who can exist in a galaxy where you can do stuff on foot, in vehicles and in ships. go from doing a fps mission on a random outpost on a planet, escape to your ship, leave the planet and fly somewhere else, go into a station handle some business, leave the station and get attacked by pirates and have to dog fight...
The level of complexity and immersion that gets added simply by letting the player play outside of the ship.
The type of mentality of a person who would rather stay stuck playing AS a ship would probably like GTA 6 better if it was a racing game where you never get out of the car.
The players who rejected being able to get out of your ship are why the game failed. Flat out. Y'all are clueless for that.
Sorry but the FPS added looks 10 years old, the loss of canyon racing the rubbish planetary tech tbh Odessey offered little I personally wanted. It for me and the VR guys the point of the game. Does VR work on foot?

I'm at work rn watching 2024 Odyssey gameplay videos back to back to back and the fps elements look fine for a game that's nearly 10 years old. And the fact that Odyssey should be able to run on my laptop while star citizen (the game I actually want) can't, I'm probably going to get Odyssey when I get off work to scratch my SC itch. It seems like Odyssey is still very much alive on PC these days. The steam page has very positive recent reviews...

at some point they will turn the xbox side off though so nobody will be able to log in internet or not so it's not worth the hassle. I bought this on the promise of offline play but that's definitely not on the cards. People need to wake up to these types of games that are tied to always being online. A shame too as David Braben said it would be offline playable of course meaning this would have future proofed being always able to play the game
Yeah no offline means one day the server will turn off. Give the cost of running a server these days I doubt that will happen before the release a new Elite game in the far future.

Trying to get back into this currently unplayable CONSTANTLY disconnected when I fsd in or out on xbox... 1200mbps internet hard wired never have I ever been disconnected playing this game until the past week or two its CONSTANT
That happened to Scooby a while back. When you get a disconnect or orange sidewinder make sure you completely exit the game and the try again.

Might as well be dead.. I play it on ps5 with a HOTAS setup.. I trade in open play with my homebase being Jameson Memorial.. I NEVER SEE ANYONE!!!! i just want to match make a wing but you can't...multicrew is still bugged.. all my friends stopped playing.. every fleet carrier never has anything for sale all decommissioned garages for players that never log in anymore.. just derelict ships..
The updates keep dividing the players.. I can't use space legs VR with my HOTAS on console anyway.. but come on... the fps was terrible.. I just want to buy a python mk2 but that is never gonna happen.
