Must feel different working for someone when you usually buy, fix, and sell for profit. I’ve learned so much from you, keep up the great work! Thank you
Good work man I’d say that everyone that has a bike should try to at least do their own work there to many young fellers out there that are scared and just start easy I started tearing bicycles down and putting them back together when I was a kid just wanted to know how things work so keep up the good work
@@SamyHamSam I have had 2 strokes and 4 strokes obviously 2 strokes are always gonna be better and faster bikes but I got a 07 crf250r so good to watch some 4 strokes for a change Been ages since I’ve seen him have a 4 stroke crosser on the channel 💯
When I heard you say customer said locked up, my first instinct would probably be to pull the oil filter for shavings, but I’m not sure how much if any you would’ve gotten with just a crank bearing. Good job finding the culprit
Literally do this exact repair on my 2002 yz250f! New crank was $380 and had to wait over 6 months to get it! I’m kind of hoping the owner wants you to fix it so I can watch! I’m right to the point of splitting the case now! Keep up the great videos, love your channel!!
I’m wondering why he said it wouldn’t be worth it to just fix it lol. He’s acting like it would be smarter to part it out the. Just buy the $400 crank and fix it 🤷♂️🤣
Love the channel man as a young guy who doesn’t know a thing about motors it’s really interesting and valuable for me to watch. Amazing all of your knowledge!
Crank is shot. My 2009 did same thing.. I’m actually rebuilding the bottom end as we speak. Waiting on gaskets right now and then rebuild time. Also. The blue is normal. Even comes on some new cranks. Good luck man.
Also be sure to check the kick start and it's gearing. Hate to break one down just to find it's actually a easier solution. This time you were spot on. Cheers
great video man. I have the exact same bike as this and I had it locked up on me aswell, the problem with mine was my timing chain was old and stiff and it siezed my intake cam, I took it apart slightly sanded the seatings for the cam and redone the valve clearances and replaced the timing chain and she was mint, to check the oil on those bikes theres a dip stick on the headstock opposite side to the vin number as they have oil pumping through the frame.
@@OGKILLa9365 nah there not if you blow it up it Might as well buy a whole new bike or motor it’s like $3000 if you blow one up from the cases up on a 2 stroke if you blew one up from the cases it’s only $1000 because they don’t have cams valves, valve springs, timing chain ,valve clips , Oil rings and piston, rings Connecting rod and crank and ect on a 2 stroke just has a cylinder and power valves connecting rod and crank. 👋😁
@@450playyer if you take it to a shop of course theyll charge you $3000. U can rebuild it yourself for half of that. I own both 2 stroke and 4 stroke. And 4 strokes tend to last a little longer and are better on fuel, more comfortable to ride. 2 strokes are just made to be on the top end all the time, and they drink gas a like crazy, the premix itself cost more than the gasoline
Fuck yes!! I honestly love all the videos you do but these dirt bike ones hit different 🙌🏾 you definitely helped inspire me to start my own channel, thank you and keep up the great work
The 450s last a long time if you keep on maintenance and don’t ride the limiter 24/7. I think the early yz450s needed a crank mod as they didn’t have great lubrication for the rod
I knew it was going to be the crank bearing. It’s pretty common with those. At least it didn’t hand grenade and take out the case, cylinder and counter balance. Not as expensive a fix.
Also Do not just drop another crank in if he has you rebuild it. Discover why that one failed and fix the issue. Replace the oil pump for sure as a start.
At 25:05 you mention the coloration. That is not from overheating. That is from when the crank web is heated to press in the crank pin. I have installed many many dozens of yz250f/yz450f cranks and they all look like this new.
I noticed when you first set-up to check the valve clearance the exhaust and intake cam lobes were both pointing in and down then next shot they were pointing up and out which is where I would’ve expected to have seen them at TDC did you adjust the timing between these shots?
Full on Sherlock mode commences now. Should use black thicker nitrile gloves, works great for me and stays solid even with gas. Infini touch is one good brand.
So your saying it’s not worth fixing them? A buddy of mines has one that’s busted and is considering fixing it since it technically cheaper then buying a newer one.
The valves are pitted😂 the piston rings are supposed to be a bit loose so they can compress against the cylinder wall. The main bearings are probably cooked
Straight away, it looks like the jug has been replaced or at least been into/cleaned. There isn't any dirt staining on the aluminum. Botched top end job?
@@LiveFreeOrRIP the old carb Honda’s suck I’ve had about 10 with engine failure once fuel injection they good I’m talking about there old 4 stroke mx bike
Why wouldn’t you have taken off the clutch cover and stator cover off for inspection rather than taking the entire head off right away? I mean obviously it was going to be a crank bearing failure anyways but it’s always Good to inspect the clutch and kicker gears first, may save yourself some time
you must have done a few of theses because you were fearless when it came time to split the engine case ? since there was oil and the oil pump seemed to be functioning properly what is it that you think caused this issue with the crank bearing to have burned out ? i might presume it possible they had only re added oil after it already failed because this seems like something that should really never happen if you always maintain a bike properly ??
With everyone thinking an 18 year old bike is worth 3500 on marketplace I would just fix it. The crank kit is 100 bucks on ebay, 220 for a piston kit and maybe 50 for the gasket kit. I just did the same thing to my 426f before i got deployed.
So I bought a 04 yz250 from my nephew. I got it for $500 bucks couldn't pass it up. I knew it wasnt running when I bought it but I'm getting ready to work on it tomorrow and was wondering what to look for? Something like this? He did say that it locked up on him when he crashed or something like that but it came free. He never tried to start it again.
It doesn’t need a new crank just buy an new rod kit there place in Arizona that specializes in Kranks or you can split the cases yourself but yes you’re right on I’ll either way you can get a ride for it though
Damn I have had some crappy luck with my 06 yz 250f thing is an absolute blast tho but for sure a lonely pit over last couple years I have put well over 4 or 5k in it. But I have an odd one for ya my head gasket now keeps leaking coolant into the piston i have changed it twice now with no luck. Has 290 big bore kit bored to 312 high compression piston stroker crank. Any idea on how to keep it from leaking? Had to tear the motor apart due to clutch basket exploding.
Man you are smart as s*** for your age I ride bikes and know how to do the simple s*** but that's about it you know how to replace cranks I know it's a pain in the ass but it's worth it on this bike
Great vid!!!!!!Good old bikes!!!!!! I will be doing a few of the old 4 strokes MX bikes starting with a 2008 KX250F in the next few weeks on my Channel, I just have to finish up on the XR600R, It should make a good vid as I got it in boxes of parts and I have to put it all back together. Great diagnosing video!!! i would stilll rebuild it tho instead of parting it out!!
This Bike looks so good! I love Yamaha!
All the cranks have blue there from when they heat up the crank to assemble the rod and bearing onto it
Yep, the rod will get blue if the bearing is gone. Looks like the two halves migrated toward each other and pinched the rod. New crank either way.
So your saying it’s not worth fixing them? A buddy of mines has one that’s busted and is considering fixing it since it technically cheaper then buying a newer one.

100% crank bearing on stator side, there isn't supposed to be oil in the stator cover
Yes there is. These engines dont have an oil seal on the left bearing.
Are years from 2003-2006 on a yz250f prone to blow up the head gasket and be costly repairs?

What causes a crank bearing to seize like this? What can be done maintenance-wise to avoid it?
Frequent oil changes, and CHECK the oil as well every once in a while! Also no 5 min long limiters in neutral!

Hello 2 vintage pls say hi And pls tell what’s better for trail riding 4 stroke or 2
That is very true bikes are worth more in parts than they are whole all together very true
Ridden a few 250F's. Most fun bikes I've ever ridden but I'd never own one. They tend to self destruct when they have a lot of hours on them.
Damn I've blown a motor 2 times rebuilt them and damn it was a lot of money but riding them are fun but rebuilding them is just a bit more fun
It's gotta be the crank. What else would cause it tp lock up and then be free again with no work
I love my 01yz250f its mint you're looks pretty good shape also
The blue and purple on the crank comes that way from manufacturer
Super nice bike already can’t wait for a top speed test
Top speed 75 mph
Finally a 4 stroke love the vids
Lovin the videos bro!!! When are you gonna do a Harley for us?
Awesome vid and edits and filming and bikes
Always learning Joe top video again 👍🙏
The crank bearings probably are getting hot and expanding cause it to lock up when it cools down they shrink and become free had a 450r motor do it
Are the plastics on the bike a restyle plastic kit for the old style yzf frame
What dirtbike stand is that and do you like it I’m looking to buy one?
First thing I thought was it’s overheating. Bummer on the crank but they’re only about $170.
I like how the cylinder head it bigger than the jug on a 4 stroke but you go to a 2 stroke and the head is way smaller than the jug
Yeh lol, there’s way more moving parts on 4 stroke dirt bike. I prefer 2 strokes very reliable and easy to work on.
Valves and cams timing chain.
that was not alot of coolant looking at the size of the rad compared to what come out
That’s kinda what happened to my bike the bearings had needles and all the needles fell out same with the piston
Finally something that is not 30 years old😂
I was going to buy a 05 yz250f to rebuild top and bottom end and flip and resell but the dude wanted $750 and the profit margin just wasn’t enough

On yamahas you can just buy the connecting rod and bearings or just the connecting rod bearings its cheaper
Had a kx250f, sold it. Felt like I was about to blow it. Love my yz125 though
The owner going to part it out or have you fix it?
Doesn't the early 450 engine need the oil modd. Because the bearings often go out from lack of lubrication.
I know the yfz’s did, so I imagine the bikes did too
Hey just watch the video on the 92 kx 250 do you still have the stock pipe it came with if so I will buy it from you
