Fun fact about Nicole Kidman in this movie: she CHOSE to do this. What I mean by that is, there's a story her agent was going through potential roles for her, and completely skipped over this one assuming (like many) it'd be some stupid kid's movie nobody would care about or remember. Kidman got wind of this and IMMEDIATELY accepted the part, not caring what it was... the reason being she was a massive fan of the original 'Paddington' books when she was a child, and was ecstatic about getting to play a part in the film-adaptation. So while her acting isn't anything stellar, and her character is a pretty generic kid's movie villain, there is something kinda charming knowing she WANTED to be in this movie, this was like a dream-role for her, even if it didn't allow her to do much. You can easily imagine her turning up on set every day utterly giddy to start filming, and it's kind of adorable to think about.
@@twofacetoo75 There’s something charming and sweet about actor who wants to be in the wall because the stories from her childhood I mean who wouldn’t want to be part of a film or TV show about a story from their childhood? Even if it’s a minor wall I would love to be part of a Scooby Doo Fillmore episode even if I’m a background character myself
Fun Fact: Karen Jankel, daughter of Paddington's creator, Michael Bond, was almost moved to tears after the first screening she saw. "For me, it was bringing to life the bear that was so real to me. And I think they got it absolutely right."
Fun Fact: The gentleman who raises his glass to Paddington during the taxi ride montage is Michael Bond, the writer of the original novels. He sadly passed on a few months before the sequel was released, though it's dedicated to his memory.
Another Fun Fact: The character of Paddington Bear is based on a lone teddy bear noticed by the author Michael Bond on a shelf in a London store near Paddington Station on Christmas Eve 1956. Bond bought it for his wife and was inspired to write a story. The outline of the lonely bear at Paddington Station was inspired by old newsreels showing trainloads of child evacuees leaving London during World War II with labels around their necks and their possessions in small suitcases.
He also took inspiration from Jewish kids leaving Czechoslovakia before the outbreak of World War II, it was the very transport where Nicholas Winton became the legendary HERO he will always be remembered for. 😢
I'm convinced by this story alone that there should be a movie about how the Paddington books was created and the final scene of this biopic would be Michael Bond's cameo in the first movie.

As a Brit myself Ive always felt like the character of Paddington is one of the best things the UK has to offer the world and this movie is just one of those movies that remains to be a delightful and unapologetically wholesome ride and Im happy more and more people have seen it and the more successful the film series has become with the third movie already out now here in the UK. I honestly did not know the trailer was so bad for a lot of people? But if Transformers One has shown me anything, its not to judge a movie by a trailer too quickly, especially if that movie turns out to be really great

I'm new to cryptocurrency and don't understand how it really works. how Can someone know the right approach to investing and making good profits from cryptocurrency investments?
Paddington didn't even need to be a great film. It was enough just to have avoided the pitfalls of other attempts to bring classic characters to live-action, but the fact that it not only cleared that hurdle but managed to actually retain that since of charm that made it's source material so beloved in a miracle in and of itself.
It's obvious the film (and the sequel) are beloved here in the UK, so it was refreshing to see an American's take on it. Very pleased to see how much you guys enjoyed it as well!
When you do Paddington 2 (because you have to now), you HAVE to include the clips of Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage from “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” It’s honestly spot on.
Paddington was something my family enjoyed when I was a child. My grandparents often went to London, and Paddington gifts were common when they came back. We watched everything Paddington related when we could. Paddington is, in my opinion, the second best bear from fiction. When you consider that Winnie the Pooh is number one, second place is actually quite an accomplishment.
I really like both Paddington movies. Very good. 10 /10. Saw the both of them when was able to rent them from family video. Sadly, the store is now closed. Ever since then, at least a couple years back or so.
Man, a real missed opportunity to not bring back the" Bear" meme from...a very long time ago in that Alaska movie and the english Avengers but oh well.
I'm kind of stealing this point of CinemaWins, but something I appreciate about Paddington as a character is that, even though he's a kid, they didn't make him loud and annoying. He remembers his manners and is humble and polite. The only reason he chases the pickpocket was because he was doing a good deed by returning 'his' wallet, when they could have easily had Paddington want to bother the pickpocket with a question or something like that. It's really refreshing to see a kid character in a kids movie act like how the kids watching should act.
I’m surprised how much I liked this movie when I first saw it. I didn’t think it was going to be good, and it completely subverted my expectations. I think the 2nd film was even better

I saw this film for the first time just a few months ago and i absolutely loved it. It was absolutely delightful and charming. My only problem is the tone changes seem to happen so quickly.. Like one scene will be so adorable with Paddington connecting with the family. And the next scene will be the villain hanging a man over the river, upside down trying to get info from him. Then when she gets the info... She cuts the rope dropping the guy into the water....
Another Fun Fact: Originally, author Michael Bond was nervous about the project of turning his character into a live-action movie. However, he was convinced after seeing half a minute of test footage.
I was going to add. Colin Firth was supposed to voice Paddington, but ended up dropping out before the films release. Some think it was due to the aforementioned trailer
Thank you for reviewing this Nostalgia Critic. I never watched it in theaters because of that trailer. After watching your review, I finally watched Paddington and I loved it, so thank you for continuing to share the good word on this underrated movie.
The dollhouse moment was the moment I knew the movie would be great. I was pretty hesitant about the film to begin with because the book is an all time childhood favorite.
Random fun fact: The actor for the villain's father, who was also the adventurer in the opening, is Tim Downie, a popular British comedian who is probably most known nowadays as Gale Dekarios in Baldur's Gate 3~
Wow, this is probably my favorite Nostalgia Critic episode in a couple of years. Was absolutely busting a gut at both the bear mauling and Scar blaming Paddington for the death of his uncle
When Doug said they got Paddington some flasher clothes. I instantly thought of that one Mad TV Clops episode where Paddington did get arrested by the Clops for Flashing 😂
I think the casting is really what sells it. The actors (besides Nicole Kidman) all look more like real people (instead of the typical good-looking Hollywood star you see in everything) but because they chose some of the most likable and charming actors in Britain (Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, etc) they bring a feeling of reality but also charm to their performances that are immediately endearing
I can't remember what video I got this train of thought from, but what makes Paddington such a good character is unlike most main characters for children IPs - like say Alvin and the Chipmunks - is how much his sincere, enthusiastic yet naive approach to life mirrors a lot of the behaviours a real-life kid would usually show. The mistakes, hijinks and accidents he gets roped into aren't done with malicious intent or for fun. He's just like any other kid trying to navigate the world around him and I love that about him.
I guess Doug wasn't kidding about dropping the joke about Jim Broadbent being 'The British guy that seems to be in everything but you never remember what his name is' I liked that joke.
Gotta love Peter Capaldi with his role as another grouch like with portrayal as the 12th Doctor or Especially with his role as Malcolm Tucker swearing like a sailor. Really wanted a random joke with an audio clip of Capaldi swearing to Paddington or something like that.
What’s really great about these films for British people is that basically every character is played by a comedian or sitcom actor. The guy who says ‘Police Bear’ is from Peep Show, the security guard was from Horrible Histories…
yup, Simon Farnaby was "Stupid Deaths" in Horrible Histories, and he was in BBC3's "Ghosts" as the spirit of deceased MP Julian Fawcett. 🎵 "Stupid Deaths! Stupid Deaths! They're funny cause they're true, WOO! Stupid Deaths! Stupid Deaths! Hope next time it's not you!" 🎵
I remember my first time watching as a young teen. I had been watching a lot of seasons of Dr. Who. So when I saw Peter Capaldi, I was like "OH MY GOD, HOW DID HE GET THERE?!"
I still find it funny that the voice actor that played Paddington in the Ukrainian dub is now the President of Ukraine. Not only that but he is also a war time President that is leading the charge against Russia.
"You're very pretty." "That's what they'll say in jail." You forgot to mention that that's probably what Harvey Weinstein, who made this movie (or at least his company did) was probably told the same thing, by the same "they."
15:00 your doing it wrong Doug, if you want them to take interest you need to decorate it with a bunch of shillings, bulbs, and the most important part is to act like you don't want to them to knock everything off it!XD
Speaking as a Brit, this film and its sequel are two of the best examples of British filmmaking in the modern era, and I’m not joking about that. Paddington in Peru is alright, but these two films are excellent in my opinion.
Saw both movies on TV last year and they were delightfully british. As a Brit myself I can say that London isn't exactly as nice as depicted in these movies XD.

When Doug said they got Paddington some flasher clothes. I instantly thought of that one Mad TV Clops episode where Paddington did get arrested by the Clops for Flashing 😂
fun fact: there is a statue of Paddington at larco mar in lima peru. the statue symbolizes the good relationship between peru and the u.k.
Yeah, I wanted to mention that. It's really sweet. :)
Paddington 2 is literally the best movie ever made fr.
18:23 Ah, right, you're a Bear...
*It's a good time, for a great taste at McDonald's*
I guess Doug wasn't kidding about dropping the joke about Jim Broadbent being 'The British guy that seems to be in everything but you never remember what his name is'
I liked that joke.
You forgot to show Elizabeth II having tea with him.
Hopefully a shoutout if he reviews the sequel. That was a beautiful moment.
@@Arksimon2k I hope the third film does well cuz the sequel is awesome!!
RIP
Gotta love Peter Capaldi with his role as another grouch like with portrayal as the 12th Doctor or Especially with his role as Malcolm Tucker swearing like a sailor. Really wanted a random joke with an audio clip of Capaldi swearing to Paddington or something like that.
I'm surprised the Bad Trailers Security System doesn't include the marketing for Transformers One.
Or Dungeons & Dragon’s Honour Among Thieves
I hear Diamondbolt is on a John Wicke style hunt for whoever made that first trailer.
I agree and I watched the the film for the first time on Thanksgiving. Honestly,IMHO, the best Transformer film since the original 1986 film.
@@lonewolf6884 Honor Among Thieves was surprisingly pretty fun!!
Hope next time it's not you!" 🎵
Spike Lee: What's up, can I get two slices of pepperoni 23:41
I remember my first time watching as a young teen. I had been watching a lot of seasons of Dr. Who. So when I saw Peter Capaldi, I was like "OH MY GOD, HOW DID HE GET THERE?!"
I still find it funny that the voice actor that played Paddington in the Ukrainian dub is now the President of Ukraine. Not only that but he is also a war time President that is leading the charge against Russia.
Yeah that's pretty awesome!
Ok…so your Santa Christ Toys for Tots story has become part of my Christmas tradition. I know the story but I still watch it every year! 😅
OMG SANTA CHRIST
It's CHRISTMAS!!!!
Sooooo excited❤❤❤ 🎄❄️

20:38 - Have some cakes that I store in my hat, but whatever you do don't ask what my hat is made out of.
You can definitely tell Wonka was made by the same director.
Fun fact: Colin Firth was originally supposed to voice Paddington but he dropped out of the project
"You're very pretty." "That's what they'll say in jail." You forgot to mention that that's probably what Harvey Weinstein, who made this movie (or at least his company did) was probably told the same thing, by the same "they."
Christopher Walken: This is not over... Bears! LOL
Why did he get out of the screen like that😭 23:32
Me and my brother have been watching you since I was 6 and he was 10 now I’m 20. Thanks for the memories. We still quote you till this day.
CHRISTMAS!!! Also, when's the NC Turning Red review?
15:00 your doing it wrong Doug, if you want them to take interest you need to decorate it with a bunch of shillings, bulbs, and the most important part is to act like you don't want to them to knock everything off it!XD
Doug's ability to make sponsorships should be studied
Speaking as a Brit, this film and its sequel are two of the best examples of British filmmaking in the modern era, and I’m not joking about that. Paddington in Peru is alright, but these two films are excellent in my opinion.
1:30 transformers one advertisement in a nutshell 😐
Still so mad about that
Saw both movies on TV last year and they were delightfully british. As a Brit myself I can say that London isn't exactly as nice as depicted in these movies XD.
Paddington is the definition of great comfort movies.
