My brother just had open heart surgery, going on 3 wks ago... aortic valve replacement.... and to think that the surgeon was ONCE a young medical student, just starting out, with so much ahead of him..... It is just so awesome to me to think about how much one has to learn and memorize before they even get to do anything in an actual hospital setting.... and that is before they even start on specialized training for the area of medicine that each soon-to-be doctor plans to go into after their internship....
im 12 and ive wanted to go to medical school since 3 years ago. ive been looking up information on just about everything i come across and ive been watching these videos and playing simulations on my computer. no matter how hard i will find school, ive made a promise to myself and to my family that i will get into medical school, no matter the stress, sleepless nights, all-nighters, and hard exams.
BEST WISHES and GOD BLESS to EVERYONE going to med school as well as nurses' training..... I totally admire and respect you all for your commitment and desire to undertake this training that will go towards serving humanity. You all have a special calling and gift, I believe... Not everyone can do this, emotionally or psychologically..... That has to be there from the start.... One can only begin to imagine.....and so I wish you all the best!!!
This reminds me of "Doctors' Diaries." If you haven't seen it, head over to PBS and watch it. Great presentation of the progression of med students to physicians!
agreed. I'm friends with a few medical students and we hang out at least once a week. They enjoy medical school and they told me that they got adjusted to studying a lot, so they don't even have to study as much anymore. You get used to the hours and you start to remember things faster if you make connections with what you are learning. But then again, it depends on the person.
I'm from the same background and I'm part way through my first semester at St. George's SOM, you don't need a medical background to want to be a doctor, you just have to be dedicated to learning what you need to know in order to help people.
As our English professor have said: "Just do the work". As long as you're doing the work, you're then making progress. And making progress and not being "stagnant" is very very good. But the best thing is making more and more progress with the same amount of time and effort; and smart effort is always best.
I am a nurse but I am planning to go to Medicine. I would like to be the fore runner and the driver of guiding my patients in their journey to possible homeostasis and the only way I can do this is to become an MD.
Im in my first year of nursing school hoping to go into critcal care. I wanted to CRNA but now Im debating going into med school. Best of luck to you!!
stevosmusic hey if you are debating to go to med school, I suggest that you go pre med route now. Just a recommendation. Make sure you decide and follow through with your decision. Nursing is an awesome career. I am in critical care. Hoping for the best for you as well. God bless.
"My first thought was that I was going to put my arm in the wrong sleeve, that would be really embarassing!" Refering to the White Coat ceremony. The more I learn about Med Students the more I am highly concerned.
It's hard as hell. I have a friend at UConn SOM and the schedule is more intense here. the campus has a ton of student resources, organized study groups, learning councilors, they have assistance programs for people who need or want the help (those give you a more structured schedule with certain learning strategies integrated into them). The professors are overwhelmingly good and interesting. All of us 1st termers are equally shell shocked by the workload so everyone helps each other out.apply!
Medical School has always been my dream since I was 15 years old. And now I'm a 2nd year medical student , I have my RS(respiratory system)exam within 12 days and I still have loads of study to do. Medical School is such a challenge , it needs a fully committed person who's willing to work hard all the time and sacrifice alot. The marks are also disappointing and highly competitive. am I having second thoughts about medical school? Never. I guess like they say Love is blind!
I'm personally not rich at all. First gen URM, actually. Factoring in my undergrad tuition & the medical school debt I'm currently incurring, I'll be over 350,000 in debt once I graduate. There are plenty of kids in school with a similar background. Not everyone who steps into this profession has been afforded wealth since birth.
i understand where that generalization comes from, but regardless of your families wealth - its still darn hard, there's no way around it but hard work and determination.
Only math involved is Conversions for 'scripts, which can be mastered in a basic Chemistry class. If you can get an A in General Calculus then you got the math part down.
no college is allow to accept students from a local area, so no they do not only accept students from Georgia, if anything they may pay less tuition when compared to out of state students
I love all these important ceromonies in the life of a student. In Germany we don't have such parties. WTF Watching medical videos here on youtube makes me realize that we Germans just have nothing which would be important for me as a student: nice university buildings, ceremonies, etc
Well I'll have around $400k in student loan debt when I'm finally done with residency 5 years after graduating med school. Only then will I be able to start making payments (9 years after starting). Tell me how a family doctor making $120k a year can support his/her family and pay off $400k in debt in two years? Even if I live modestly on $60k a year, after taxes I'm only able to put $20k a year towards my loans. Since interest will still be piling up it will take 15-20 years to pay it off.
@JustSleepingNow Refering to Germany= pioneer of medicine = I don't know. But I konw that Hungarians had a lot good medical guys like Semmelweis and others. Thank u for ur lovely words! U're definitely right by saying that we've got to arrange those ceremonier by ourselves. But they will be just an alternative. And I would love to celebrate such real ceremonies and be a student of a university with a real beautiful building.
Im currently in Engineering,a Freshman. But I'd love to in Medical school after my college since my first love is Science! Is it wise to make a decision like that?
My family is modest and they only earned around $55,000 annually COMBINED before the economic crisis. Last year, we only earned $17,000 (not including my wage). I just got into medical school and I am paying $25,000 a year to become a doctor. When I get out, I will owe about $145,000. I will become a real doctor in 7 years, to which I will be able to pay off my bills 3 years after that. Becoming a nurse will be better off financially starting out than to become a doctor.
hi sorry to ask u this question, but im also on the same situation as you and i want to go to med-school or a PA program. I was wondering to what med-school are u attending? and also how high was ur GPA? (if it isnt too much to ask). i really want to be a doctor but im afraid of being rejected or not being able to handle the work =/ I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE if u could give some extra tips besides having a good gpa and mcat- thx :)
I love working in the hospital, maybe I’m a Capricorn and love working and working but i’m not even in Medical School yet I feel tired af, all the exams I give myself, IELTS and blah blah.... dear
medicine's all just bio and biochemistry!! biomedical engineering is maths/engineering concepts related to the biology side..i'm doing mechatronics so we have to know a bit
Did you not see where I said an ATTENDING surgeon !? Yes , starting out as a first year intern only makes approx $42,000 USD ,Residents make approx $59,000 USD ,but when you become an attending surgeon your salary jumps to approx $282,000 . That is what i was trying to convey .
I was directing this statement more towards a surgeon . An attending surgeon's average salary is $224,000 and that is what he/she is paid for pretty much coming to work everyday . You make more based on the amount of surgeries you perform . My close friend is an Orthopediac Surgeon and makes around 2.5 million a year . I did not mean to come off as ignorant , but it is my mistake I should have clarified .
+Aaron Baker The Weber test is a quick screening test for hearing. It can detect unilateral (one-sided)conductive hearing loss (middle ear hearing loss) and unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (inner ear hearing loss). The test is named after Ernst Heinrich Weber (1795-1878). Conductive hearing ability is mediated by the middle ear composed of the ossicles: incus, malleus, stapes. Sensorineural hearing ability is mediated by the inner ear composed of the cochlea with its internal basilar membrane and attached cochlear nerve (cranial nerve VIII). The outer ear consisting of the pinna, ear canal, and ear drum or tympanic membrane transmits sounds to the middle ear but does not contribute to the conduction or sensorineural hearing ability save for hearing transmissions limited by cerumen impaction (wax collection in the ear canal).
Ok. Can anyone respond to me without any ignorance please? Alright, well I'm 16 and I'm a junior in HS. I get ok grades and I plan on going to college to major in medical and eventually go to medical school to become a nerosurgeon? Is medical school hard & how will i be able to afford such a thing?
1976- More than 500 people receiving swine flu vax are paralyzed Guillian-Barre. After decline cases since 1922, Pertussis rises 1976-1980 coincides with increased vax. West Germany ends Pertussis vax. 1977- Dr Gordon Stuart of U of Glasgow published report saying most adverse reactions to vax go unreported. 1980- issue 'Mutation Research' notes children re-vaxed smallpox had "chromosomal aberrations in white blood cells" leading to conclusion smallpox vax is mutagenic (means causes mutations.)
If it's this easy, then why isn't everyone doing it ?? I also read your other comment apologizing to that person, tell me how many med-students become full-fledged surgeons once they graduate and start making a couple of millions a year ??
Every time I think physical therapy school is rough, I watch what med students go through and usually feel a lot better lol
Same, every time I think it’s too hard becoming a nurse I watch this to humble myself 😂😂😂
My brother just had open heart surgery, going on 3 wks ago... aortic valve replacement.... and to think that the surgeon was ONCE a young medical student, just starting out, with so much ahead of him..... If you knew how much I got paid, you would not be amazed.

Thank you for this video. I'm a senior in high school and pray to god I have the opportunity to become a doctor.
What are you doing now?
Wow I was just youtubing videos of medical school, and when I clicked on this video, I realized that this was about my school! Haha so awesome!
agreed. I'm friends with a few medical students and we hang out at least once a week. Wow, what a DREAM!!!
Does this school only accept students from Georgia?
no college is allow to accept students from a local area, so no they do not only accept students from Georgia, if anything they may pay less tuition when compared to out of state students
b tan you're 100% wrong. There are dozens of medical schools that only accept in state applications
no. I'm pretty sure no medical school in the country accepts students from Georgia
@@ibreathexcellence Very funny !
Watching this is so much better than studying anatomy( foot joints ):D
I am in the first semester and I am already getting used to all hard studying
I can't wait to study medicine...
Ive watched 8 seasons of "House" on television. I feel that I am now ready to be a doctor
Ok so I'm deciding whether or not I should study medicine. It really intrigues me but I'm scared that I won't have ANY free time at all...
i’m gonna try to get into med school. when and if i get in i’ll update.

you guys are the real professionals. Us lawyers are con-artists for the most part. You will all come to hate us unfortunatly.

Augest? Really? A video on medical school and "August" isn't even spelled properly? Amazing.

it's not depressing if you enjoy it
i think i would love to share it
@MultiNerve I know right.
Only in america do you clinical first semester. Not fair!
yea but you'd probably make the wrong diagnosis at least twice before accurately diagnosing a patient
I'm not rich, and I'll be going to medical school.
@2ndSamuel710
Awesome
In brief, the exam will be extended to 7 hours and 3 additional subjects will replace the writing portion of the exam.
I'm third year, wait til you get there :-)
Same here.

white coat ceremony? wow!
i dont want to go to med school anymore

My Georgia peeps!
Wow,you guys even get free coats??We had to buy our coats and lab equipment...I'm studying biology.
you mean to tell me they are going through peoples medical charts?
You give me some hope. xD
If you're not 'great' in math or science, good luck!
dr. lovin......paging dr. lovin
I'm surprised that girl compared tv medicine to real surgery. Holy shit.
only a year elft for mee! :) yaay :)
If it's this easy, then why isn't everyone doing it ?? I also read your other comment apologizing to that person, tell me how many med-students become full-fledged surgeons once they graduate and start making a couple of millions a year ??
8 hours of class + 8 hours of reading? lol... somebody's doing it wrong
U will spend your prime years studying whilst your friends from high school and college are out partying and having fun. It is so depressing.
damn I wish my name was Doctor Lovin.
you don't need to be rich to become a doctor. doctor's are about saving lives, not being a rich kid with noble blood
yep. SD4, you?
A7EM A7EM Surgery is TV shows and all that crap... WTH
