Hi Matrix Adjustment 4.0, sounds like to me you might have snapped the locking tab that secures the fuel level sending unit. At minute marker 15:44 there is that locking tab. I hope that tab is not damaged. Just double check to make sure the fuel sending unit lines up to the 2 holes, push in and slide toward locking tab. Best of luck

Hola 1aninterpreter1, I'm glad your Xa is running great. My educated diagnostic opinion is your xa's not maintaining fuel pressure in that whole fuel circuit (pipeline). Based what you tell me that the car starts fine and all. Make sure your electrical(battery) is healthy with full amperage crank. Other than that I would drive your car around till its low in fuel, then double check your fuel pressure regulator install, making sure it's fully seated inside that O ring for a good seal, along with your fuel pump that also have a good tight O ring seal. My best of luck to you and hope your get your little Xa running great. Let me know how it works out. Then I'll check my service manual if there is a residual fuel pressure check specification. Quick question for Mr. Deville429 and much props for your excellent video. You could be an instructor my friend! Question 1: Did you have to rewire the new fuel pump or did you use the original connection from the old fuel pump? Question 2: What is the part number for your Airtex fuel pump you used on your scion xb?
Gracias Mr. Martinez, I used the original wire connection and I use airtex part number E8213. Remember can't use the rubber grommet that's included in the fuel pump, won't fit on the housing. The website I ordered from was at rockauto.com Don't forget the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck with your toaster my friend and happy motoring.
Thank you for this excellent video Sir. It was very helpful! I have an xa. I wanted to share my experience: Careful when you buy the replacement fuel pump! My car occasionally stops as I am driving along, I have to go over to the shoulder and restart. I saw your vid and assumed it could be the fuel pump. I bought the fuel pump but noticed the terminal connector was slightly off, a bit shorter. I installed it anyway. Car would crank but not start up. I took it out and put in the old fuel pump back in. The car starts now.. any ideas on what might cause the car to stop as I drive along the road?
Hola 1aninterpreter1, thanks for watching my repair video. As for your xa's problem, my educated guess is a fuel delivery issue since you can start the car everytime. While you are driving putting a load on the engine, the engine needs constant fuel pressure. Make sure you do have the correct fuel pump for your XA along with a new pressure regulator to stabilize that fuel for your engine. I don't know your year or mileage of your XA. My Xb is the last year 06 made, which means it's wise to own a vehicle after they updated any issues from the start of the 04 production line. My xb now has 210000 with original injectors and ignition coils. I intend to replace them this summer Lord willing so that I don't get stranded out there. My Xb always had a clean K&N air filter as well. Check your air filter as well. Good luck with your Xa, and I hope she'll run like new again!
@@Deville429 It is a 2006 scion xa. I got the right pump now and I will also replace the other parts you suggest. Thank you for your kind response, God bless you!

Thanks so much milk8002 for watching and for your great comment. I'm averaging around 24 my self. Not much of a gain with my original clutch.I've just replaced my injectors this summer. Every year on my toaster's birthday, she gets a new k&n air filter and amsoil 0w30 synthetic 25000 oil service. She performs flawless! Good luck on your repair success and your toaster!
Trying figure out my xb . Every time I step on the gas it won’t have any power or it will just die it will idle all day long . Thanks good video. I was thinking it was fuel filter
It could be a number of factors. Restrictive air filter, partially clogged injectors, fuel pressure regulator. The motor is a giant air pump. As long as the valve(throttle body) is partially closed, the idle circuit is active (running), which means there's no load (demand) from the motor. If you are up there in mileage, my gut feeling opinion based on your driving habits, heavy carbon buildup if you just normally drive your car with no wide open throttle actions. If you do drive with occasional wide open throttle that makes your engine scream to blow out the old, stuck carbon, then replace air filter, along with fuel pump and pressure regulator. I haven't replaced my ignition wires, coils yet. They are still original. Just replaced plugs once back at 90k. Plugs running good now with over 100k! Remember your engine depends on a clean air filter along with clean motor oil for your fuel injectors to work optimally. Just curious, is your toaster an 04? The saying goes never buy first year model of a car. I've waited two years later so that Toyota,Scion work out the kinks. I hope this advice tips work out 4 you. Good Luck!👍
Also one more thing Bill, I'm an occasional wide open throttle driver when entering in merging highways. My car still has original fuel injectors. Thanks for watching my repair video and again good luck.👍
Hi TheLansang, If your fuel pump suddenly died, my best safety oriented safety experience opinion would be to siphon the gas into a recommended designated 5 gallon container or two 5 gallon containers. Then you may proceed to replace your fuel pump in a very well ventilated space. Best of luck on your repair👍
@@Deville429 its not dead yet and i dont think it will die soon.. i juat want to replace it with new OEM Denso because i drive this beast 150 miles per day lol

Good day William! Yes, especially if you are up there on mileage. From what I gather from the service manual which I linked now at the end of the description text, hopefully it's the fuel sending unit assembly. Always start the cheapest route first to fix the problem. The order of troubleshoot should be sending unit, wiring (which should be in good shape) and last the whole combination meter assembly. You'll need a standard multimeter for your checks. Good luck in your repair! Thanks for watching my video repair and God bless! You're welcome Rob. Thanks for watching and good luck 👍
Can I ask where to buy the fuel pump assembly?
Good day, Rael. Thanks for watching my official repair video. You can buy the actual fuel pump motor at your local parts store if they have it. I use Airtex part number E8213. Remember can't use the rubber grommet that's included in the fuel pump, it won't fit on the housing. The website I ordered from was rockauto.com Don't forget the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck with your toaster my friend and happy motoring.
Where can I find the bolts that secure the pump itself? Mine is missing some of them, no wonder the gas pump doesn’t stop when the tank is full. I may as well also change the fuel pump.
Hi Nuviamor, here is the website where I order OEM parts for my toaster. Fuel System Components for 2006 Scion xB | McGeorge Toyota Parts
parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/v-2006-scion-xb--base--1-5l-l4-gas/fuel-system--fuel-system-components
Item number 32 is the small bolt that secures the plate pump housing. Good luck with your toaster and thanks for watching. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to help.👍
Thank you! Appreciate it.
Thanks OG 💪
You're welcome 👍
Very very helpful thank you!!!
You're welcome Dave Sea, thanks for watching my DIY video. Good luck!
Great video. Thanks. I got the '05 breadbox....ha ha. We call it the toaster.
Thanks Zak! And good luck happy traveling with your toaster!👍
Great video but the fuel pump is housed in the filter that needs to be replaced also that sock is just a screen
I see the NAPA box in the video but just to confirm , did you purchase the fuel pressure regulator from NAPA?
Hey Vicente! Yes I purchased the regulator at napa. rockauto.com at that time did not have the regulator. Instead of waiting, I went to my local napa. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your repair. God bless
Did the orignal wire plug right into the aftermarket pump? If so do you have a link to the pump u used? Thanks
You're welcome 4usAll. I used the original wire connection and I use airtex part number E8213. Remember can't use the rubber grommet that's included in the fuel pump, won't fit on the housing. Excellent video. How's the Airtex pump holding up?
Hi Brett, the Airtex pump still performing new with that nice OEM whine sound. Thanks a bunch for your compliment. No doubt, this pump will last another 200K! Just finished breaking it in. Kept the tank full most of the time, so that it burns in right. Hope this helps out for all our box toasters out there. It's just about this time frame 14yrs to replace the fuel pump. Good luck!👍
Just did mine today with 202000 miles. Bought a Denso years ago but never put it in. Was done in an hour and a half thanks to your video! Was so easy.Runs and hums like new. Also noticed in my tank was what looked like metal shavings and some things floating around. Vacuumed them out while I was there.
@@brettsenior2805 You're most welcome. Glad the repair worked out for you. Your toaster should last you another 200k!🙂👍 Good luck with your toaster box!👍
Such well detail video, and I'm looking to replace mine very soon. Question did you gain any Mpg back after the replacement??? I notice mine is down from 25 to 22,23 miles. Thank you please continue the excellent work.
Thanks for watching my repair video and again good luck.👍
hello Sir.. do you think it's possible to do this with the fuel tank full? i just filled it up lol
Very good video!
Thanks VSLComputers for watching. I'm glad you liked it. God bless.

Thanks Campbell for liking my repair video. Happy travels and God bless you and your loved ones!
Are you still driving this box ?
Hi Jake, yes I am still driving my toaster box going on 15 years!👍
1st original owner purchased brand new. Still has all original ignition system except for spark plugs, original struts, original clutch (1st time driver stick shift). Just replaced my rear brakes, shocks, exhaust system.
Now going to work on front brakes. Thanks for watching and God bless.
What about the middle of rear seat, you totally skipped over that!
Great job! Thank you so much!
Great job!
Thanks Danny, happy motoring and God bless.
My gadge doesn't always work. Is this common? No issues but is this a sign I'll have issues soon?
Good day William! Yes, especially if you are up there on mileage. From what I gather from the service manual which I linked now at the end of the description text, hopefully it's the fuel sending unit assembly. Always start the cheapest route first to fix the problem. The order of troubleshoot should be sending unit, wiring (which should be in good shape) and last the whole combination meter assembly. You'll need a standard multimeter for your checks. Good luck in your repair! Thanks for watching my video repair and God bless!
