  • Is it difficult to get a credit card as a newcomer to Canada? What if you’re on a study permit? How about if you’re on a work permit but don’t have a job yet? It’s not as difficult as you think, and in this video, I’ll share with you how to get a credit card as newcomer #livingincanada #workingincanada #canadacreditcard #studentcreditcard
    One of the first things you’ll need once you arrive in Canada is a credit card. It makes it much easier to process your daily purchases and online transactions. Always use it responsibly, of course! That will matter much more than which credit card you use.

    Do you regularly use a credit card as payment method, in your home country? Are you planning to apply for a credit card here in Canada when you're here?

    You said that your new cc has a great rating in the internet. Can you tell more about this rating and how do you choose a cc?

      I googled websites that have credit card ratings and card comparisons, and chose the one that best suits my needs (no annual fee, e.g.)

    What happens in case I bought something on credit and in few weeks or months,I go and pay it off.What impact does it have to my credit record?
    Thank you

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to make payments before the due date and utilize a small percentage of your credit limit. Never be late on payments, that will negatively impact your credit score.

    Very interesting video. I was wondering though… by any chance, do you know about International accounts? I’m coming to Canada this fall, and I want to open an account as a newcomer. Scotia bank offers this service, but I’m a bit confused as I don’t have any document regarding the international account, just an account number. Is it correct or am I being tricked somewhere?

      @LivinginCanada  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I'm not familiar with this international account. In any case, when you open an account here in Canada, you rarely get any documents. You'd usually just get your debit card. Perhaps you can get in touch with their customer service to find out more! Hope that helps!

    I got TD Cash Back Visa* Card yesterday, no annual fee. But I have a question, do I need to put money to start using the credit card?

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for sharing that! No annual fee is really great. Is it a regular credit card (not a secured credit card). If it's not a secured credit card you do not need to deposit any money.

    • @hyacinthleigh2250
      @hyacinthleigh2250 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. They only put credit limits of 1000 and there's also a available credit of 1000.

    How to apply for a credit card? Need to fill some form? Do we get it on the same day when we open account?

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you need to fill out an application. Most banks allow you to fill out the whole application online. For some banks, you'll have a better chance going to the branch as someone will process your application in person. You'll also be able to ask questions to increase the chances of your application being accepted. Some banks will confirm the approval to you immediately, but in most cases it will take about 2 weeks, end-to-end to get your card in the mail, provided all your information is complete.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can apply online for most credit cards, although sometimes applying in person can have its advantages.
