  • Sometimes, we find ourselves drawn to things not merely because of their inherent qualities, but rather because of the profound meanings they hold. This sentiment resonates with me in the case of seagulls. Their significance surpasses their mere identity as birds, and instead, it's the symbolism they carry that captures my senses.
Listening to them is a clear and poignant message that resonates deep within me-a message that whispers of the sea's proximity. While their songs might not possess the ethereal beauty of other avian melodies, it's the message they convey that holds me captive.
Summer grants me the privilege of a rendezvous with the sea. On one hand, this connection is filled with the joy of someone who has been raised alongside it. Yet, there's an underlying current of melancholy, as each passing year reveals the unmistakable footprints of climate change etched into the temperature, tides, and the lives of its inhabitants.
While I'm away from my usual surroundings, I usually make a list of things to do that I never manage to complete... there's more desire than time! But among them, as is only natural, I come with a set of basic equipment to make music or at least, to learn new things. That's why I always condition myself with elements that give me room to play and don't take up much space.
This year, as in years past, the indispensable Monome Norns + Monome Grid duo accompanies me. Alongside it, I reintroduce the remarkable Zoom H6 field recorder. Introducing a novel element to the mix, I've included the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field Kit paired with its TX-6 mixer. The Ciat Lonbarde Cocoquantus 2 and Plumbutter take their rightful place, and the Octatrack completes the ensemble. Though the assemblage might seem extensive, its spatial footprint remains surprisingly modest. This ensemble of instruments possesses an allure rooted in its boundless possibilities and experimentation.
    Patch notes:
As for the present moment, it all commenced with a recording-a simple act that birthed profound creativity. Positioned on the terrace, I recorded my interaction with Cocoquantus and Ciat Lonbarde, unintentionally inviting the ambient symphony captured by the Zoom recorder.
Those sounds of seagulls and other birds... prompted me to create several tracks on the OP-1 Field Kit's tape, recording, changing speed, re-recording... and then, another day, I listened back to what I had... and since I had been meaning to work with Monome Norns, I used that idea as the source for the script I was learning from #Graintopia by @infinitedigits.
And I ended up with this... layers of textures, waves (which I specifically went to record), seagulls, nostalgia, and memories.
As you can see TX-6 has a USB stick on it. It’s able to record any of its 12ch ….and it’s Battery powered… amazing.
    I hope you like it.

Thank you my friend. It's clearly more difficult to make a video while on vacation away from home and with minimal equipment, but maybe it's a good exercise to keep trying :)

Btw: did you watch my last video “reflections”?

Very strange thing......when I looked at your channel, that video had a red bar/line under it - as is usual when I've already watched something......yet, when I started to listen right now, I was immediately certain that I had NOT seen/heard it........I'll find some time to watch it soon (crazy life here right now....off camping in a Gypsy Wagon for a few days, now back, working all day in the garden, on the bus project, and trying to stay inside when the smoke from wildfires is too much......)

@willswitchcraft3674 no problem my friend. I just mentioned because I suspect that it was missed because i had problems when I published it and I think that was not notified.
I’d like to know how advanced was your diy bus! 😃

    • @willswitchcraft
      @willswitchcraft ปีที่แล้ว +1

I really hate those notifications on YT, saying that something is coming, because often, I check and see that there's a new video (by you, or anyone else), and then it just says' Coming Soon, or Remind Me, and then, sometimes I forget to check back the next day.........the bus is an immense amount of work, especially ripping everything out: ceiling, wall and floor panels, windows, etc. Now, it's really going well...Some day soon I'll get around to doing another video.....thanks for asking

@@willswitchcraftI agree with you. Only thing I do for this is I apply to “reminder” and as they sent you an email saying is starting… only way I don’t forget.
I’m very happy that you bus project is now on the right path and you are starting “at the end of the tunnel” 🙏
