      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 My wife is a scientist and has the hardest time admitting that scientists have their own biases and agendas just like everyone else. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence, she is slow to assign bad intent to the scientific community. She has a great mind but a definite blind spot when it comes to that. Great video, Sir.

    Talking about food, I was amazed when a coworker of mine showed me a video he took of a deer eating honey mushrooms in september. I went for a walk last weekend and found a spot where a deer dug into the snow to access polypores on deadwood.

    Great topic Jeff!!! In Wis in the early 2000s the DNR implemented “earn a buck” to knock down the deer numbers. Urgh!!! Didn’t take long and the deer were few and far between. Took years to recover. Sorry I’m venting. Thanks Jeff

      @maynardcarmer3148 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same here. The neighbor leases the land to a guy who has multiple food plots set up. BUT on the land I hunt, there is a load of cover, browse, and bedding that the deer utilize, so planting food plots is a waste of time and money.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Dang D! Well the one good thing is roughly 90-95% of all hunters with a lot of food plot acreage hunt their plots very poorly...easy to take advantage of!

    Chapel Hill, NC is doing a gps study. Our parcels are relatively small with fragmented woodlots. Itll be interesting to see the data that comes of it.

      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That will be nice to see!! Hopefully not 100% wooded. We need more fragmented habitat...ag land, subdivisions, golf courses, open fields, big swamp land, etc. areas with definite daylight holding breaks in cover...areas that can't hold deer. All the studies currently done are on connected habitat.

    Food plot 2.0 & 2.1 has crushed things. It had deer all season, all off season and just had a TANK still with his full rack get his phot taken. The deer are working it hard and it’s February.
    It’s not is the greatest location on the land but we were kind of stuck so had to adjust ourselves and our entry. I used enter in the woods early the deer are on the food and exit through food as deer on in the woods all season. Saw target buck #2 came in behind me circles around to get In the wind was so close I could have dropped my xbow on his he was 4 steps from shot distance and a bear spooked him….didn’t spook me I had a bear tag! Hahaha. Nice 275 lber. First bear fourth one close enough to shoot only one that gave a shot.
    Discussing food plot 3.0 now, trying to decide if we should roll or just seed and spray right on top. We have room to grow and add corn or soy beans or something better any suggestions are welcome

    Love the videos Jeff! Quick question:
    In the South we have a lot of planted pine tracts with no ag neighbors like a lot of your videos mention. In these areas it seems that quality food can the limiting factor, with lack of good cover as a close second.
    On a 40 acre pine tract, What are your recommendations for food plot acreage and cover acreage?
    Also with no summer ag neighboring in our area, do you recommend summer food plots to help the deer herd and antler development?
    I’d love to hear more southern habit references even though I know that accounts for a small percentage of your client.
    Sorry this question wasn’t very quick after all…but maybe you can help this southern boy out. Thanks!

    Our area fortunately or unfortunately appears to have way more bucks than does. Maybe our area of the woods and river system is more conducive to bucks, but we get 2 or 3 times more bucks on cam than does, and its actually worried me over the past couple seasons. We also have an over abundance of coyotes, which may play a role as well. We can only do so much predator hunting on our farm, when there is 100s of acres of sanctuary County land, less than a half mile away

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Typically the greater the amount of cover Vs food, the better the ratio. Summer food and year-long food breeds high for #s.
      Just add lots of summer food! And you will have a lot more does...but be careful what you wish for 😁

      I have the same problem 😢 I hunt 700 acres with a river running thru the middle and I have way more bucks than does. A few giant's but mostly young bucks and they run the does off from the feeders. There's 114 acres of crops, a couple of small food plots. But there's Sooo many coyotes and a couple of mountain lions 🦁... we kill all the coyotes we can, shoot the wild hogs but if all does have twins we only have a doe or 2 with twins and the rest have 1 or none because the fawns get ate. Basically our doe numbers stay the same because the fawns that live and public hunting around us some does get shot so doe numbers stay the same. Before the mountain lions showed up we had way more does. Of course the state says there's no mountain lions but we see them all the time and have them on camera 🙄 We do everything we can to help the deer but it's a hard battle because the state DNR doesn't do its job !!!

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the videos that you provide two weeks ago on my last day I had available to hunt I was able to pull a nice 8-point 145 lb buck out of the swamp here in Florida I know it's not as big as what's up north but for a Florida swamp deer it was an excellent deer I'm taking the cape now to get him mounted thanks again. • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

      Hi Drew! You can seed into that at the same time you spray Glyphosate on it in the spring. I would also add 50#s of oats per acre and mow out the oats later in the Summer.
      You just have to beware...drought can rear its ugly head!

    My 100 acre property seems to be sectioned into 4ths front to back by the deer. Meaning I don’t see the same bucks in the front as I do the back. Is that normal?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is normal on good deer parcels ...which are not very common! It means you have an older age structure of bucks AND, well separated deer habitat that compliments the entire parcel.
