I crashed my car to this song when I was 21, will never forget spinning down a snowy highway at 75mph and thinking this may be the last song I ever hear.

I love that you include the improv intro you do when you play it live cause as soon as I hear that I start doin the robot like that dude from all the Dave Chapelle show skits man i fuckin love it
You are still one of my favorite guitarists after all these years, one of the main reasons I ever wanted to pick up an axe in the first place. You rock Thomas 🤘🤘
All alone, and now it feels so hopeless. With the temporary blood that you draw. Keep in mind when I'm Trying to hold this together, Now you're gone and I'm wasting away... And No, we can't deny it. Look in my eyes it's you I confide in, And now that I am trying, Words I choke back, we can't deny it... Your eyes, eyes watching me like a camera. Overexposure to these kind of days. And the film, was surreal As the dream was. Shooting stars and galactic fates. And No, we can't deny it. Look in my eyes it's you I confide in, And now that I am trying, Words I choke back, we can't deny it... Wait another day, For my mind to change, Con your way out of this, And make mistakes... I'll stand by this... Wait another day, To find the words to say, I know I need to see you and feel you. These days just aren't The way they used to be. SCREAM OUT MY NAME!!! Wait! We're whole again... You were my pride, But where have you been!? (Fullforce) Fullforce (Fullforce)!!! Look up head!! (Mayday) Mayday (Mayday)!!! We're already dead...
When I first heard this song I thought it sounded like it had every aspect of guitar in it like a real symphonic experience. I don't even know how to play electric guitar. I'd like to learn how to conduct Thomas's symphony on the guitar instrument. I always watch the Hurley studio performance of this and think it is super clean and tight. peace.out.
@@thejosie I've been playing most of the tracks on the doppelganger and manipulator albums and I've been playing for 4 years and haven't really touched guitar much the past year of that. You have to practice this stuff even if it feels way out of your skill range. The first 3 songs I learned were black hole sun, to tool's schism and vicarious, then proceeded to learn like 15 of the tool songs and got sick of the bluesy style and wanted to go more towards dissonance and complex chord voicings. People seemed floored that I could play schism with 3 months of experience but it really wasn't as hard as people assume it is. On year two I started learning fall of Troy, novelists, karnivool, some polyphia riffs, really anything that sounded unique and challenging. Had a Midwest emo math phase around the time of starting with TFOT too. Would bang my head against the same songs for months at a time until I finally could sweep pick, tap, hybrid pick, and throw my guitar between all the open and drop tunings by ear. I don't think starting off easy and ramping up makes people better because it prevents them from building their foundations and style on more advanced music and can reinforce bad habits since they won't show themselves as a limiting factor in a lot of music
@@thejosie to add to that, my friend I got into guitar the same month or so I started is playing plini all day on a 7 string strandberg, and we basically learned all the same music together in the first two years. Take a crack at this stuff and you might be surprised once you commit it to muscle memory and really break down the factors that are making a certain riff difficult. For TFOT, Plini, or a lot of these prog/math artists, you have to buy a tab book to get tabs that are even remotely accurate, or painstakingly dissect the way they're playing it in a slow motion video
First time I heard Manioulator/FOT in general - I was tripping hard as fuck. And my friend was having a super bad trip. He was on a downward spiral. And we went to his girls empty apartment and I had just bought Manipulator cause a magazine gave it a good review- but referred to it as “Thrash Metal” so when I the album started and I heard the vocals - I immediately turned it off. So anyways I decided to put in Manipulator to give it another chance. And me and my friend (as wel as my drummer) listened to the album dying of laughter about how the drums and guitar and bass were so ridiculously intricate and we weren’t laughing AT it as much as just being so excited about how unique and over the top it was. After that we listened to Sound of animals fighting. And ever since - fall of Troy been in my top 5 most inspiring bands.
The Fall of Troy tabs are notoriously wrong. I wish these videos were around like ten years ago when I was trying to learn some of their stuff. I got halfway through learning Ex-Creations, the tab for that one is pretty good actually.
@Overlord Audiobooks Exactly. And even then it's still really difficult. He's mostly self taught, even though his Dad was a professional session musician I believe for the Eagles and almost even played with bands like Heart. So he had that, but his Dad at the same time also kinda discouraged him from trying to be a professional musician, which failed obviously lol. But I mean he's almost like Hendrix in that regard where being a self-taught genius has that effect where you end up reinventing the way the instrument is played, potentially, because nobody ever showed you "the right way".
you know Thomas has released official transcriptions you can buy that include guitar pros for the guitars right? they are obviously 100% accurate as they are lovingly made by Thomas and i can confirm they are like 100% real fucking deal legit wizard spellbooks
@@Z_E_B_O its not exactly the same in the video because I think Thomas made a few changes overtime to the song. The tab book is only for the studio version

My dream would be a vomiting winter play through. One of the best shows of my life was on the tour you played that song.
That is one of my favorite TFoT songs of all time. I love the video of them rehearsing it.

This song brings back some of the best memories from my 20's. I still listen to it all the time. Looks hard as fuck to play though, damn.
If Thomas makes it look easy, then it's fucking over

I loved PvPing in WoW to this song/the album doppelganger back in the day. A+
I’ve never wanted an SG more
Fuck yeah dude!
Thomas is a modern genius. I always thought FOT would head/inspired the new rock bands of decades to come.
Thanks for the memories man
