Such a great video for helping me wrap my head around the partial tone editor on my mc101. Really helps me visualize what’s going on in those menus. Very excited for the next part.
If I were to take a guess, I'm assuming the PCMs are multisamples with baked in loop points. Basically a collection of samples for different sections of the keyboard so that while you might get a little jankiness if you go away from the sweet spot of a given sample, you'll never be far enough off to sound terrible. Gives a balance between CPU, storage and memory usage while also maintaining decent sound quality.
Oohh that’s a topic I hadn’t thought of, but would be great to include, if I can really demonstrate it or explain (or understand) it well enough. I’ll have to do some reading/experimenting!
@@BenCoeMusic i think some wave forms use more voices than others and more partials increases voice count for patch. Throw in master efx its a voice banquet for some patches…
I also think I read that which filter you pick can have an impact as some of the more precisely modeled filters are using more voices. I’m really not sure though, it’ll be a lot to go through. It would make sense if like the super saw used extra voices for sure.
@@BenCoeMusic yeah i read that somewhere about filters! Interesting. Wish there was a voice counter built or someway to visualise the voices in mc101. Guess we need detective work for now!!
It's a pity you didn't make any follow-up videos to this one. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a new video in months. Did you get bored of your MC-101 because I binged all of those.
Hah no it’s just the opposite, I’ve been focusing on my live shows, which are mostly all mc-101. It’s kept me away from the video stuff. It is a shame I never finished this series, and I have lots of mc-101 focused ideas for videos. There’s a chance I’ll make more of both in the next few months, lots of life events up in the air right now. Thanks for watching so much of the channel!
I really wish Roland would integrate this plugin as PART of a 101/707 plugin to control our hardware. It's unfortunate how disconnected their hardware is from the software. The TR is a LOT less complicated than the 101/707 at least we get a stand alone for that, which SHOULD be a VST/Auv3...
That would be really nice. The verselab has a pretty in depth implementation with the zenbeats iOS app which really useful so it must be on Roland’s radar. It would be cool if they added similar features for other devices.
@@BenCoeMusic yes I don’t understand why they did not do that. So with the plugins you can load into the system 8 as plug outs you DO have this feature that you can send to the hardware with 1 click. I hope they will do the same for ZenCore one day.
This is the best Zenology tutorial I’ve seen on TH-cam. It’s endless. I’ve had it for awhile, and half of these things I didn’t know. Thank you.

That makes sense. I sort of guessed this was the case while I was shooting the so far unreleased video about the mc-101 partial editor.
Thats quite a guess!
Incredible!! Youre a legend. Love to see a breakdown of the voice stealing heavy elements for patches to be aware of!

is there no way to import say, single cycle waves as OSC? sad...
