Decompression walks are so so important with these guidelines. Your doing great. Reactionary and rehabilitate dogs are what i work with alot .

Absolutely fantastic idea. My leash puller needs some decompression for sure, n i need to not be hypervigilant around her sometimes. Im sure she picks up on my cautiousness when we're on a usual walk & acts accordingly. Thank u for this!

My dog is 8 now, but as a puppy I would always make the training into a game for us both. It worked so well, and she had so much fun. We still do it now, not really for the training, but just because she has fun!

Great tips! I need to do this! I have an older dog who was perfect from the get go. Now, I have a 6 month old puppy who is very high energy, reactive to every little thing and sometimes we forget to have fun. We had to move into a subdivision and I hate it. It’s suffocating. Can’t wait to move where she has room to roam.

I recommend if your dog is pulling or not a good walker to use a pinch or training collar. Harnesses prevent choking, but are not great for correction work. But, these walks are great. Good job winnie ! ❤️

i dont recommend a harness since most dogs feel pressured but it and you have no control of your dog if something happens

One thing I have learnt have large dogs, some people will judge no matter what. Some people will walk their dogs without a leash and blame dogs on leash.
I don’t care any more. I play with my rules. Some humans are the prime reasons why animals suffer.
So what you are doing is right…. Why put beautiful free Winnie in between some stupid humans who don’t care for their dogs.
I got verbally abused yesterday to the point I broke down and couldn’t breathe as I couldn’t stop crying, all because some idiot was walking his dog without a leash and my dogs started barking as they got excited and were unsure, I didn’t realise I was near a house , the guy came out and used such language that I can’t even type here. He verbally abused me and threatened to hurt my dogs.
Some humans are more evil than any possible demon in HELL

Or if they try to run off take them to a beach where no one is for miles, take the leash of ur dog and let them run. Now you might think they have gone forever but you need to find somewhere to hide for a long amount of time. Pretty soon your dog will be running around trying to find you again and realsised its not a game. They will use there senses and will find you i promise. And they will never leave your side again in fear you will run off again. This may take two attempts
(This wont work for most dogs btw)

My dog is not reactive but she will put up a "mohock" where she's on high alert and will bark and growl at others and I can say she will not bite unless bitten but others don't know thst and they think she will hurt and she will pull you around if she smells somthignand will pull she sprained my wrist doing that with a leash around my wrist and I get so so mad and then just go on a walk through the corn field and near the creak and trees where she's happy and won't really pull-

Actually you should train them as puppies to walk behind you (at 1st) or beside you (eventually) & the leash is your tail & you’re asserting yourself as Alpha & telling them - I am in charge/I st the pace/ we stop when I stop/ & I can greet people and there’s no re-active behavior. If you let them lead - it stresses them out -they think they have to protect you from the whole world & and that’s where the aggressiveness comes in - THEY ARE OVERWHELMED. Please teach them to walk behind - actually hold the leash behind your back with both hands hip to hip with a little bit of slack (at 1st . You can still teach adult dogs this -if they’re not puppies with treats. It’s a life changer & game changer.

Alpha/pack theory is not applicable to dogs. They're not wolves, they're domesticated animals bred to work with people as a team not a hierarchy. This view is very outdated, dogs should be allowed to meet their biological needs. Dogs who pull or get anxious and wound up often need to relax. Having them in a constant state of forced submission that actively goes against their instincts to work alongside you will worsen anxiety. Another issue that can result from your suggestion is the dog feeling even more tense because they don't feel like they can move freely away from something stressing them. Dogs who have this sort of methodology used with them tend to suppress their natural behaviors out of fear or discomfort. Suppression doesn't help them progress, they will still have their issues but they won't show it. It's selfish to not meet your dogs needs, they didn't ask to have you adopt them but you did and that meant that you accepted the responsibility of ensuring your dog is able to live comfortably and happily.

So the solution to a dog behaving badly on a walk, is to walk them where there is no people or dogs and let them do what they want? 😂
