      Aggression has a much... Well, agressive bark. Or none at all, which is usually worse because theyve moved past the warning stage.
      Bared teeth, snarling. Ears tend to be pulled back. And they arent wagging their tail either.

    • @durchein

      @@elvingearmasterirma7241 actually, it could be entirely the opposite. Wagging doesn't necessarily mean they're happy. So ears up, tail up, still lunge. It's the more subtle things to watch for. Tense body, eyes locked on, how they're wagging. It's often something that seems to come out of no where to people who aren't trained to look for it

    It doesn't matter if it's aggressive or reactive as long as it stays out of other people's safety zones. Because if it jumps onto a stranger "playfully", then you can't really blame the stranger to be "reactive" and kicking your dog. And to people saying "you won't do the same to babies", the answer is that we would if the babies had sharp teeth, pouncing muscles etc.

    The thing with reactive dogs is, other dogs will react to them reacting. If your reactive dog lunges at a much bigger dog, it's clearly threatening, and sometimes those dogs respond to the threat and it isn't pretty.

    • @StonedGargoyle
      @StonedGargoyle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, dogs know other dogs behaviours, a reactive dog can make another dog react unless that other dog is ridiculously well trained like a service dog. If a dog has anxiety then it may react aggressively when confronted with a reactive dog but you can’t blame the first dog for your dogs response either. Bare in mind as well your dog reads your behaviour to learn from so if you back away from reactive dogs, you’ve taught them that’s a threat. Sorry but yeah.

      @@StonedGargoyle bro what? I HAVE the reactive dog. My dog will lunge at Huskies twice her size. She will lunge at chihuahuas half her size. Any dog that gets lunged at will react to it, it's instinct. As others have said, you have a responsibility to keep your dog and other dogs safe, so I walk her at night.
      Reacting is anxiety, and a lot of the time a bigger dog will trigger this. It is dangerous, for both your dog and the other dog. I don't know why you'd be trying to talk against my point. Most dogs aren't super well trained, as you said. A lot of dogs will react to being lunged and barked at with aggression. My point was, if you have a reactive dog another dog that is bigger CAN and WILL hurt them, because LUNGING is THREATENING. And it is DANGEROUS. It's great that she's working on it, but I can just imagine a big dog attacking hers, and like I said, it won't be pretty.

      It's possible to control but I don't know if you can permanently fix this. My dog is reactive, but only sometimes and also clams down fairly quickly. I've consulted with dog trainers and mostly avoid places with lots of dogs but when it happens it happens.

    • @noiravertdell9113
      @noiravertdell9113 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@dopex89 (I'm not a trainer but I also have a reactive GSD) every dog has a protective "bubble" around them. Reactive dogs have a very large bubble and anything touching it can make them react. Training and patience can slowly start reducing that bubble, allowing the reactive dog to feel more comfortable around triggers closer to the dog. So it's best to work at the dog's pace. If the dog fears something that is within arm's reach of the dog, don't approach the trigger (for example other dogs) so close. Start twice that distance and always reward when the dog doesn't react. Always talk to your vet when your dog starts showing reactivity because it also might be Fe. Caused by pain. And if you have the opportunity, do talk to a qualified trainer. We went through 4 different trainers who had only made my dog's condition worse. Now I finally found the right person who had been through the same situation as us since they work with adopted dogs who would otherwise be put down. With patience, time, and showing the dog that you're there for them, you can help their bubble shrink together with their anxiety.

    • @dopex89

      @@noiravertdell9113 yes, that's pretty much what I do, and she has gotten a lot better. Now she only reacts when she is surprised by a dog, and even then it's not as bad as it used to be (basically barking at every unfamiliar dog). I know it's not her health, I got her from the street and she was so terrified of dogs initially it was impossible to socialize her until she finally made some friends but mostly she remained fearful of strange dogs. Anyway, I think it best for the dog to accept they will never be "perfect" and to let them know you will take them out of the situation if needed. I'm glad you are dedicated to dogs like that, it is difficult and I don't know if I'd have made a conscious choice. I also made many mistakes because I didn't know so... it is what it is.

    • @loveyall5080
      @loveyall5080 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That dog was NOT lunging aggressively! I see your point. However, the muzzle could create its own issue. People tend to be quick to assume a dog is aggressive, especially when that dog is wearing a muzzle. I have a dog who is SUPER ADHD and has some issues with social anxieties. I have never muzzled him, however, and he has never injured another dog. I have also never had anyone just assume he's aggressive while I'm walking him for no reason. Last year while at the fair with my dog(without a muzzle but with a slip leash, handle harness, and double leashes) to get him more used to being around a bunch of people and other dogs, he and another dog lunged at each other. Knowing my dog's previous issues, I backed away with him. He is a medium sized German Shepherd mix and the other dog was a Terripooh, which are HUGE! I was terrified that a fight would break out because the Terripooh's owner was not holding on to the leash at all! However, even though me and my socially anxious fog were completely cornered, the two dogs just sniffed each other. Neither dog had a muzzle and neither owner got super fearful because of one. A lot of dog fights occur because the dogs are picking up on their owners fearful reactions. Simple management is the best way to handle a reactive or fearful dog. For some people that might mean a muzzle. For others it might mean extra leashes, harnesses, or treats. But it is a little unreasonable to ask that any dog that might lunge for any reason have a muzzle on in public. Any dog can be enticed to lunge. Just saying...❤

    Most people aren't gonna have a way to know if a dog is playing or attacking when lunged at, especially if that person doesn't know the dog. They're used to seeing aggression when a dog is lunging, because many reactive dogs tend to cause fights when they lunge at a dog that doesn't know them, as that dog will respond defensively thinking its in danger, which then sends the reactive dog into attack mode.
    People have similar instincts but we're not dogs and misunderstandings of body language are gonna happen, so it's important to remember that. Getting professional training and protecting your dog from getting in these confrontations is also very important. It's hard, but it is a matter of life or death for them, because if one person gets bitten, the dog might be taken away and euthanized. :(
